Hmm.... Well, that's a pain in the butt.... I hadn't really noticed the decline int he interest for anime, but that's probably because I hang out with a bunch of crazy anime lovers. I never have cable, so I didn't rely on AdultSwim or Toonami or anything.

If I ever get financially stable enough I will start donating again, but right now...that ten bucks has to go to cat food unless I want some skeleton kitties. >.>;

I know what you mean about people not liking change *is one of them* but I will keep an open mind and try to look forward to seeing what direction we wind up going in. ^^

My heart seriously just sank while reading this and I am now fearing for Menewsha's future. I truly don't want this site to die - I love this place and it's people far too much. From reading this, I can't help but get the vibe that Mene may be closing down very soon.

I am a fairly consistent donator - I try to donate 5$ every month at least. However, For the next 3 months I am unable to due to having college expenses. However, once October comes around, I hope to increase my donations to what they originally were - $10-15 a month.

Now I'm not saying this is going to help anything, but I can't help but hope that if Mene can keep afloat - others who are in the same boat as I am, may be able to start donating more once the summer season is over just as I will be able to. Mene has truly been like a second home to me, and I'm sure to many others as well. We all love this site dearly - it's apparent in how active and giving this community is.

I truly hope you can find some way to keep Menewsha alive. A big part of my online-time/online-life (whatever you wish to call it) is spent on Menewsha. I honestly can't see what I'm going to do to fill that hole :(

-

In regards to the donating for gold discussion - I think if you limit the donations of $1 to $5 a month and only pay 100g per $1 donated, things would be alright because it wouldn't overly affect the gold status of the economy and it wouldn't overly effect the donations for CIs/CI prices. But it would be a small incentive to get people to donate at least a dollar. Because hey - that's 100g less you have to earn yourself ;)

No good for the $1 idea. You're forgetting that the credit card companies swipe a fee. It will be no where near a dollar by the time mene gets what is left over. At that point you may as well buy a CI.

Thank you, this was really interesting new information. I hope Mene can figure a way to make it all work, maybe funding from some other sites or sponsors?

Is it just me, but doesn't it feel great when you read about failing Gaia? It just seems they are spending money everywhere and they want show off everywhere and take all money from the users..and then they are failing. Ha. (That site used to be my home)

Hmm, you have a point. Maybe if it were a random thing per month? Like..when special CI gifts are available if we bought $10 worth of CIs.

Edit: I just read what snowflower said and she's right. I completely forgot about that.

@Pulla: A failing gaia isn't actually the best news in the world. Because as you said they spend a lot of money and they show off with all their fancy features and all that. Well since they have such a large userbase and features if Gaia fails it really doesn't bode well for the rest of the avatar sites on the internet which are much smaller.

I personally really dislike Gaia though, my account sits there alone and unloved.

Maybe people will realise how much the site needs to do ads.

It's not just mene though, it is all the avatar sites out there. Though news like this seriously sucks, it is sort of like hearing your home is being repossessed.

Its heartbreaking, but everyone who mentioned the inflation is right.
That was actually the reason I left. Also the insane number of hackers, spammers and overall a-holes was way too much.
It seemed that on every thread I went on, I was beaten down horribly for my opinions, then called a n00b by 50 people because I had been repeatedly hacked on that site.
And I don't really like this $10 donation = CI idea. It's almost the same as what Gaia does.
How about for every $10 donated, but only once per 4 weeks, you are allowed one random, but rare item?
edit
That last part wasn't right. "You are given one random, but expensive, item." Like, in January you get a Tulip Faerie dress, next month, you get the Deep Freeze dress. Like that.

This isn't too bad of an idea.
Maybe $1 = 100~300g (for example)

If the revenue is that bad, here, then Inso is gonna have to come up with something to get some cashflow in here. Menewsha has come this far...I have faith the Inso and the AAs will come up with a means for cashflow without turning this place into anothe gaia.
That takes us straight down gaia-lane though. donate 10-20 bucks a month and youre filthy rich... kiss the economy goodbye and watch all the users run. It sounds good in theory though. Possibly to sustain that, limit the amount one can donate? Though, with such a small donation, the transaction/service fees on that might make it unprofitable maybe? Im not too aware of how the transactions work out like that really.

I do have one interesting thought though Inso. Art on the website is a large thing, both in members creating it, and the artists creating it in items for the members and in the site layout. The costs seem quite high for these things.

Would it not be possible to maybe have 'applications' each month for artists within the site to make the items or graphics we see? You specify what youre after, the artists provide portfolios of previous works etc. You take your pick of applicants, they are then contracted to make an item or a graphic by XYZ date/time etc, for an in-site reward maybe? Either a specialised 'elite' item of some descript for services rendered to the site, or maybe a gold payment?

Wow, now I feel sad...unfortunately, I have no means of donating; I'm a student, so all of the little money I have has to go towards my degree. Should I make arrangements to roleplay with people off-site, just in case this place goes under? I hope it doesn't, but still...

Aw, this made me sad. D: I wish I could help, but due to many reasons, I simply don't have the chance or the fundings to do so. Maybe IF SMS donating supported my country (I do have some unspent bonus earned money there to spare), I could, but otherwise I simply cannot. D:

Wow. I hadn't realized the situation here was this dire. Thanks for the heads up. It really puts a lot of the new innovations, particularly Facebook, into perspective. I do spend a lot of time here, and have been donating. It's a great community, and well worth the time. Including the hour or so every month of my actual working life that ends up here. And I would really miss it and the people if it disappeared.

Ads do sound like an easy solution, and I wouldn't be against them, but since you said that wasn't a viable solution... Aside from getting the name out there, I'm not sure what to say. If anime is on the decline -- and I'm not an anime fan, so I wouldn't know -- what's on the upswing? Could that be latched on to without drastically changing the flavor of the community and alienating current members?

@ kandii - ads yes... would greatly help... as long as they don't make sponsor items like movies and other things...

This all explains why you've been going on overdrive though inso... because before bringing it up, you were struggling to save the site on your own...

@ Mar - I think the best help would be to brainstorm ideas with us to save it =)

Vexatious~Venom: That's true too, but Gaia falling down COULD also lead to that that people from Gaia could go somewhere else, like here.

We just have to hope and help our Mene to get throught the difficulties <3

The only thing I can think of doing personally are online surveys. I did a couple for fun and received amazon credit. But there is an option for paypal. Probably won't be much, but it's something each month. I had no idea the site was doing this bad. I thought mene was just barely breaking even. >.<
