"Yeah, we are," Dean said after a moment. That guy looked like exactly the type of person that could help with their hunt. "We're looking into the place, for an article."

Kyra settled in and started listening as well, pausing when she overheard Dean talking to the older man. She tilted her head a bit to signal to Runa.

"An article, eh?" the old man asked. "Well, certainly most people in town know at least a little about the place. Used to be a residential place, before it was converted into a restaurant."

Runa caught the signal and listened in, although she was careful not to look over and risk catching anyone's attention.

"Really? That seems kind of... unusual," Dean said, looking back at the guy. "Most people don't want to know about this kind of stuff in their own town."

The old man shrugged a bit.

"It's a tourist thing," he said. "We all pretty much figure that the place has something in it, at least. Most people who live in town long enough eat there at least once, and personal experiences are pretty common. Cold spots, doors opening and closing, things like that. Brings in the occasional tourist. Town doesn't have much else in it."

Runa unconsciously nodded. She knew about the harmless things in Pasco's.

"You won't be able to go now, I'm afraid," the old man continued. "They're renovating the place, so it's closed."

"But no one's ever been hurt?" Dean pressed. Because yes harmless ghosts did happen, but they'd gotten wind of a rowdy ghost, not some little death echoes.

"Not to my knowledge..." the old man trailed off thoughtfully. "No, I'm sorry, wait a moment. Yesterday, I heard something about construction being stopped for some reason. Accident or whatnot." The man shrugged. "That sort of thing happens when there's machinery around, though, nothing to do with Pasco's."

"False," Runa murmured to Kyra. "That's exactly the sort of thing that would happen, renovating a haunted building."

Sam looked at his brother. He knew as well as Dean did that stirred-up spirits could be unexpectedly violent.

"Thanks for the information," he said to the man. The old man nodded and turned back to his breakfast.

Dean leaned closer to Sam, lowering his voice. "That's exactly the kind of thing that would happen," he said quietly. "Renovating a haunted house? I'm surprised they haven't stirred up an angry spirit before now."

Kyra nodded her agreement. "We'll just have to go find out who it is," she murmured.

"Seriously," Sam agreed. "I'll do some more digging, see if I can't narrow down the list a bit."

Runa nodded.

"I'll see if there's a way in tonight," she said. "I'll make one if I have to." She hazarded a glance at the 'journalists' and did a rather violent double-take, almost choking on her coffee. She stumbled over a few heated expletives under her breath. "Kay, we should finish up and get out of here."

Dean nodded. "You do that." Because he knew better than to try and get between Sammy and his research. It was like porn to the kid.

"What? Why?" Kyra frowned a bit.

"The guys asking about Pasco's," Runa murmured quietly. "Christ, Kyra, it's them."

Kyra froze for a minute. The Winchesters?! In their town?!

"We're done," she muttered, drinking the last of her coffee in one go and putting down a bill for their food and a tip.

"Good," Runa muttered back, chugging her coffee and grabbing her bag. Suddenly, she wanted this hunt over so she could hide at home for a bit. She didn't want anything to do with the Winchesters, not as hunters.

Kyra hurried out of the diner with Runa, heading back home so she could get some research done. Because really, she didn't want to be entangled with the Winchesters. They had a bad habit of bringing trouble with them.

Later on, well after dark, Runa loaded up their hunting kit with salt, lighter fluid, and salt-shooting shotguns. Time to get the hunt out of the way. Hopefully, once the hunt was gone, the Winchesters would go with it.

Sam was already in the Impala with Dean, parked in front of the closed restaurant.

"Well, this is the place," he said, double-checking the address.

Dean nodded, parking the car around back so it wouldn't be visible from the street before he got out.

"Well, let's go see who the son of a bitch is so we can crisp 'em."

Kyra settled into the car, glancing over at Runa. "You sure you know which person it is?" she asked. Because there had been a few options.

Sam nodded and got out of the car, going around back to grab his shotgun and some salt cartridges.

"Pretty sure," Runa replied, nodding. "Elijah Pasco. Oldest of the eleven kids, real protective over all of them, before he died. He died young, too. All this construction would have him all up in arms, I bet, so my money would be on him."

Dean made sure he had his own weapon before he headed for the back door, jimmying it open. Really, locks were no match for him.

"We know where he's buried?" Kyra asked as Runa drove. Because if they could get this all done and over with tonight, that would be great.

"Yeah, the cemetery down the street," Runa replied. "They moved the whole family over there when they paved for the plaza." She was quiet for a moment. "I want to check the building first, though. Just to make sure Elijah is the only one upset. I don't want to smoke him only to find out there are ten or twelve more getting ready to explode."

Kyra nodded. "Alright," she agreed. "Sounds like a good plan." And she made sure she had her shotgun with rock salt rounds.

Sam followed Dean inside, glancing around warily. There were far too many places for an ambush for his comfort.

Runa made sure she had her rock salt rounds as well. She didn't bother with a lockpick, though; being an antichrist had its perks.

Dean kept his flashlight on, shining it around and waiting for a ghost to show up. After a few minutes of nothing, he glanced at Sam.

"Think I should try aggravating it?"

Kyra blinked when she noticed an Impala around back. "Um, Runa?" Her eyes were wide as she looked at the car. The Impala. Of course.

Runa turned and blinked, then swore colorfully enough to offend a sailor.

"Come on," she said, going inside, "let's take care of this before things get worse."

"Worth a shot," Sam said, shining his own flashlight around. He kept seeing something out of the corner of his eye, but it was gone every time he looked straight at it. He jumped when he heard some giggling, but nothing came out at them.

Kyra groaned a bit but followed her inside, glancing around as her vision adjusted. Nothing became immediately apparent, so she thumped a wall a few times.

Dean glanced over at Sam at the giggling. Well that sounded more like a little girl.

And then he got batted into a wall.

"Dean!" Sam was immediately on alert, looking around for whatever got his brother. A little girl appeared in the doorway behind him.

"Will you play with me?" she asked innocently, smiling.

Runa's attention snapped over when she heard the noise. She gestured for Kyra to follow.

"Down!" Dean raised his gun, waiting for Sam to get out of the way to shoot the little girl. It would give them those necessary few seconds to regroup.

Kyra moved over towards the sound of the shot, though she stayed out of sight of the Winchesters for the moment. She didn't really want to be noticed by them, after all.
