Many frogs are also brown or gray. If it is rather large and bumpy, then it's probably a toad. You can't tell just from color, though. Some frogs, like bull frogs, get very large. I've come to notice that toads have a bit wider and flatter heads.

It is not large though, the ones that I saw... around the palm size, not including the fingers.

That's pretty large. I would show some pictures to help clarify, but I haven't got much time.
But if you saw a pic of the two by each other, you'd see they have many differences that help differentiate them. On average, toads are larger. And palm sized certainly is large. Many frogs are quite small. But it really depends on the species.
