While she didn't say anything in response, her actions said much to Kiernan as he watched her intently. He found relief in these small actions, which he had desperately searched for after he made the move to rest his hand on her shoulder. It hadn't been a bold move for him, but it had been enough to make him very conscious of her reaction. How else was he to know if it were truly alright to do? Fingers gently curling against the soft skin of her shoulder, he let himself relax a little as he saw the smile remain on her face. Thankful that she didn't seem to mind it, he returned the smile with one of his own and let out a small breath he hadn't known he'd been holding. The warmth of her skin and the smile on her face both worked to make his heart flutter, prompting his gaze to remain on locked her form for the time being.

As the feel of warmth brushed over his fingers, he looked down in surprise to see her hand moved to rest over his. It had been a while since he'd last sat so close to someone, exchanged any sort of physical affection whatsoever, and it showed. A light blush colored his cheeks as he looked over their hands for a few quiet moments, smile gone for the moment as he became thoughtful. There was so much and so little to say. Dare he even say anything? He opened his mouth to do so when she suddenly turned her head to yawn, leading him to simply close his mouth and grin at her warmly in response. She was tired, he was tired; it was clearly time for some sleep. What else surprised him was the soft yellow glow the markings of her skin then gave off, as if in reaction to the yawn. Eyebrows gathering in confusion, he looked up at her to see that she was unphased before dismissing them. They were incredibly strange markings to him-- very pretty, but still unreal to his grasp on the world.

As she moved to look over at the bed, then eventually got up, he didn't need the spare seconds to make the decision to do the same. As she crawled into her bed, he stood and stretched himself out, bending his back and pulling up his arms briefly before letting himself back into a normal standing position and sending his gaze her way. Seeing her turning to face him as she lay down, he smiled her way and paused only long enough to see her eyes close as he dimmed the lighting in their room. His 'goodnight' to her was unspoken, but it meant just as much to him as if he had summoned the words to say it before she drifted off. Instead, lying in his own bed and staring up at the ceiling thoughtfully, only then did it come to him.

Goodnight, Numira. Tomorrow new dangers awaited them, and he had someone to face them for.

It had been a while since Numira felt she could sleep comfortably, so for once it was a restful night. She didn't dream, there were no thoughts in her mind that could fight their way to the surface. Sometimes she shifted in her sleep, but only to curl up a little further. Once morning broke, however, she sat up in place, bleary-eyed for a moment, the markings on her shoulders and the sides of her neck had shifted in color, from yellow to green as she stretched in place.

However she then shifted in place, crossing her legs and placing her palms together at first before she then turned her hands down, closing the fingers of her hands and pressing them together whilst also doing the same with her thumbs. As she did so the various augments began to change again. Like before when Kiernan had touched her shoulder, they cycled through a silent melody of color for a few minutes, and for those few minutes she seemed oblivious to the world as she checked the augments in her own mind, it was interfaced with her nervous system so she could see and feel the affects of them in her mind. They were charged and ready.

After a while she reopened her eyes, the dulled red was bright again and a smile was on her face as she stretched her legs out off the side of the bed. Though as she reached behind her head to scoop up her hair and put the metal clasp around it once more, she turned her head towards Kiernan's bed to check on him, even if he wasn't there she would have looked around the room, even the entire inn for him if it came down to that.

Kiernan had woken up rather early, when the first cracks of sunlight shone in brightly from the small window. Opening his eyes to immediately see Numira still asleep, he allowed himself a smile. Then slowly standing up, he quietly reclasped his leather armor and made his way downstairs to start to do some planning-- but only after turning to close the door and ensure it was locked as he left. In a rather good mood, he made his way downstairs to find a little breakfast, warm biscuits and jam, and his map of the region to begin trying to navigate a path for then.

He was one of the first people stirring at the time, other patrons quiet and some seemingly still asleep as they the few staying there all eventually trickled down for breakfast. Sitting at the bar top by himself, back to the rest of them, Kiernan lay the map before him and began to think. Before anything, we bed to get out of the wooded regions. They're more dangerous than open ground, by far... His fingers traced a path, then stopped as he shook his head and narrowed his eyes. That wouldn't do. He repeated this until he found a path that wound right around where he'd like to go, though he knew it would be some trip. That, and he wasn't sure of the area, as he tended to stay in more isolated areas. Sighing and scratching his head, he eventually turned his back on his work to face the rest of the room, elbows resting casually upon the bar top.

This was when he saw Numira, seeming to have just left their room. He quickly stood up and spoke to ensure she saw him, "Breakfast, Numira?" He had only just began to work on the fresh biscuits he held a plate of, again courtesy of the barmaid. If she would look his way, he'd smile and pat the stool beside his in a gesture for her to sit.

Numira first noticed that Kiernan wasn't around and so her first conclusion was that he would be nearby, she wasn't willing to believe he would simply vanish for good. She got up off the bed, grabbing her cloak and pulling it up around her shoulders and neck, though she left her head and hair exposed, perhaps only an oversight on her part as she went tot he door. This was her first obstacle. The handle didn't turn the same as yesterday, in fact it felt stuck. She paused briefly and stared at it. Was it locked? Old things like this were rarely ever used anymore, but still she knew they existed. She examined it a moment before she noticed the small turning button on it.

With a soft twist then a press she heard a click and th e door opened. Had she been locked in tight, she probably could have destroyed the door entirely but she doubted the owners of the building would have been too happy with her. Her steps down the stairs were light, she gently bounced on the balls of her feet, unaware of the smile on her face. This entire place had such a strange feel to it that she enjoyed.
Her smile broadened when Kiernan called her, she remained almost completely unaware of the other early rising patrons, all of whom stared at the verdant green hair among her other strange physical features. Even the barmaid stopped in place, almost spilling everywhere the drink that she was pouring.

Numira noticed the gesture Kiernan had made and made her way over to him, climbing onto the stool and staring briefly at the biscuits, the smell of the confections was strangely sweet for the odd brown they had, she relented quickly and took one, biting into it then smiling widely at the flavor a moment later, her other hand rested on her cheek again, it was a sure sign that she was enjoying it. Though her attention then turned to the map Kiernan was looking at.
Neural augments to her sensory perception was allowing her mind to make sense of it as she leaned closer to see some of the names and places,
"Draskone..? Austaros..? What are these?" She rang her finger gently along the border between them, but then glanced at Kiernan for the answers she sought.

As he took a moment to look over her form, Kiernan froze up a little as he noted that she'd neglected to hide her features this morning. Firstly, it seemed like a risky move to make when she was so exotic in appearance. Secondly, seeing her smiling again perhaps wound his thoughts up too tight for a few seconds. Opening his mouth, then closing it, he tore his gaze from her as a light blush rose to his face. He had to snap out of this. What drew him back to reality was his gaze catching the looks she was receiving from the others in the room, even the barmaid that stood off the to the side of the counter they say at. Had she meant to do that? He struggled with his words for a few moments as he mindlessly scratched the back of his neck, unsure of what her to say anything about it to her. Maybe she'd just forgotten and would like the reminder, but maybe it was a purposeful move and mentioning it would be silly. Sighing softly to himself and shaking his head, he decided to avoid the subject for now.

Instead, his mind cleared and a smile found its way onto his face as he saw her trying one of the biscuits. He loved fresh bread of any kind, himself, so he understood the pleased expression passing over her. "Fresh biscuits are one of few things that typically lure me into town," he admitted with a chuckle before noticing that the map had peaked her interest. He turned to face the counter once more to follow her gaze, elbows lifting from their resting place on the counter as he casually spun to see where her fingers were poised over it. "They're kingdoms." He began plainly, unsure of whether she'd understand the term, "We're in the borderlands between the two right now, on the side of Austaros. I believe it's best that we head more towards the kingdom's center if we are to avoid finding any more trouble." Today Kiernan was in a good mood, but as he eyed the border on the map, he became more serious, teeth tendering his bottom lip in thought. "Draskone was once my home, but it is now best that we steer clear of those lands. Dark things have been going on... I suspect that the rise in bandit numbers are just a small part of it."

He stopped himself from saying more, instead sitting in quiet surprise that he'd already said what he had. He wasn't typically the first to speak on the subject, nor so openly. Turning his head to glance again at the eyes that now focused on her, his eyes narrowed in on a few of their onlookers, as if to warn them off. A few did turn away, but many eyes still bore in her direction. Hesitantly, he turned to look at her again, a little worry tracing his voice. "Numira, it may be best to remain hooded for now..." He suggested warily, unsure of whether that may insult her or do anything to help the attention she was receiving.

"In Kiranes these are scona, so similar," Numira replied as she bit into the biscuit again, she wasn't going to argue with how strange it seemed that the dietary needs of this race reflected her own, the parallel of there being food similar to her own world was also interesting, though last nights meal didn't look quite the same, she certainly felt like some of the flavors were recognizable. Numira kept an eye on him as he explained about Austaros and Draskone, though she took on a slightly sympathetic look as he mentioned that he was from there. Were the dark things that were happening the reason why he left? At least he had a good reason to leave home..

She was curious when he looked towards the other people in the room and, for a moment, looked back towards them too, but then towards him as he incited her chosen name. For a brief second there was confusion on her face, but then she reached up to grab her hood, only to realize it wasn't there. She patted at her head, her face getting red with embarrassment before she put what remained of the biscuit back on the plate to quickly wrap her hair around her shoulders and pull her hood up again, clinging to the edges of it tightly for a moment. Her lips were down-turned and her face still rather red but eventually she reached for her biscuit again,
"Not used to hiding appearance.. I forgot.."

She bit into her biscuit again, looking at the map. It was strange but she got an eerie feeling staring at it, as if there were more to this place. Sure she expected there would be wars like in the history of her own people, but something about a world full of magic, the possibilities that presented. What could a truly clever man do with this kind of power? And what if they were more a monster than man? It sent a slight shiver up her spine,
"What more is there to the kingdom Austaros?"

His eyes locked onto her for the moment, Kiernan quirked one of his eyebrows at her as confusion came to her features. So she hadn't actually been aware that she'd left herself uncloaked this morning. As she patted her head, a small grin lead its way up along his lips. It looked silly in a way, but he didn't wish to embarrass her, so he didn't allow himself to say anything else on the subject. Instead, drawing his gaze back to his map thoughtfully, he instead tried to cover his smile. A part of him wished that she didn't need the cover of the hood, but she surely stood out like a sore thumb otherwise, and in these parts that meant people of all sorts could mean her harm. Kiernan felt his fist curl itself onto the table, uncomfortable at the thought of any of the onlookers meaning her any harm. How dare they...

After a moment of his fist clenching, he noticed it, eyes flickering down to his hand before he quickly allowed it to go limp and slid it under the table as if ashamed. He had no reason to act that childishly, there was a reason he was to accompany her-- and that was all he was to do. Scratching the back of his neck with his other hand, he cleared his throat a little after she asked her question. "Austaros? Well, I'm no native, but I have been in and out of towns quite a few times before. I suppose I do know a few things of the kingdom." He spoke thoughtfully, thinking of what may be important of the place. "It's relatively small, compared to others in the region. It is small and humble, with a sort of central layout."

Pointing to the center of the kingdom on the map, where a large dot lay, he explained, "This is the kingdom's center, the largest town, Erengard. All royalty dwell within it or somewhere nearby, and there is the largest number of people living there. There are markets, magic schools, training for soldiers, goods from other kingdoms... The rest of the kingdom spreads and thins out from that central point. We are out here..." He added the last bit as he shifted his finger near the border line again, tapping it there before removing his hand and gaze from the map. "The people collectively are all relatively content, and kept safe by the kingdom's soldiers. The king, from what I understand, is a noble man, loyal to the people of Austaros, but it appears that outside powers are making politics here rather tense, and the outlying districts have been facing some hardships. Draskone bandits have high activity out in these regions now, and there are rumors that it will begin to grow worse as the Draskone begin to have a stronger presence here." He spoke seriously, gaze distant as he stared down at his hands, fiddling with themselves mindlessly on the counter before him.

"As of now, that's Austaros. Small, but quaint, and magic-reliant." He summarized with a small grin, lightening the tone of his voice as he wondered if he'd actually properly explained what she wished to hear.

It was actually rather interesting to hear about this Austaros, there was an odd symmetry about it. Kiranes had started as the smaller of a number of collectives in space, however they had strong influence and technological breakthroughs that made them quite dangerous for a younger race. Through trade and political movement they soon managed to climb their way to the top, what was a small alliance turned into an Empire with the leaders, or rather Royals of Kiranes leading at the very top.

However it seemed that Austaros wasn't faring similarly. Was it the dark things Kiernan had mentioned? She hoped it wouldn't be so bad and that Austaros could find a way to be on top. the sound of magic schools interested her almost immediately, perhaps if she visited one of these she could learn something.. If the people were so inclined towards the use of magic,
"It must be a joy to visit." She replied with a soft smile to Kiernan. It would also be nice to have Kiernan there. She almost said it, but caught herself and quietly blushed a moment before grabbing another biscuit and biting into it quite happily, taking several chunks out of it before swallowing a lump,
"Kiranes is a little similar to Austaros, I am liking that there is something the same here to see." She added, trying to make sure her slight pause wasn't noticed, though she doubted he wasn't perceptive enough to catch it.

What had started as a terrible visit to this planet was becoming far more enjoyable now, she couldn't wait to jump out of her seat and go, but she had to be patient. Kiernan was her guide and protector, so she had to follow him and trust him. The latter of which she naively did, a naivete she had no fear of not paying off in this case. She finished the second biscuit and brushed off her fingers softly before resting her hands upon her knees and staring up at Kiernan again,
"So.. Um.. When do we travel..?"

As she replied favorably to the idea of seeing Erenguard, a smile reformed on Kiernan's lips, but only to nearly dissipate once more as he saw her awkward pause. Looking at her curiously, he wondered if she might say more, but as she took a bite he shook his head and allowed himself to grin. Maybe he had been imagining things, or she had changed her mind-- in either case, he was still leaning towards smiling as she had seemed to express interest in seeing the kingdom's center. Maybe... I do take her inward, then. Into Erenguard. He hadn't been there for quite some time, himself. It was true what he said earlier, about only going into town when necessary, for he was still an outsider in these lands even if he spoke the language and knew the woods better than most. Kiernan was a Draskone, and unfortunately there was no changing that.

Scratching his head thoughtfully, he nearly missed her comment that Austaros was similar to her home, but luckily he caught enough of it to let his eyes widen. She hadn't said much about her home before now, so he was tempted to hear more if she would explain, but he didn't want to pry. Instead, he made a decision of sorts. "Perhaps that can be our destination then, Erenguard?" He suggested, rather liking the idea of showing her around there. There was much to see, between the taller sets of buildings and within the safer streets of the capital city. Life was a bit more fast-paced there, and there were certainly more people, but the resources availiable there were unmatched.

Then chuckling as he heard her next question, he shrugged a bit before carefully folding his map back up and tucking it away. "We can leave now, if you'd like. I just wanted to get a sense of which direction to head in, especially since we're on foot for now." He explained, sliding easily off of his stool to stand and look at her, raising an eyebrow in her direction. "Are you ready to leave, then? You seem a bit anxious to get going this morning," he commented casually, wondering what was going through her mind.

"Erenguard.." Numira repeated it to herself with a soft smile on her lips, shaded red eyes still alight with life as she thought about it, it would be wonderful to be surrounded by magic, no matter how ignorant she was of it before, to know it existed and was central to the way of life to an entire kingdom, easily as large as any single community on Kiranes, she couldn't help but be fascinated by it as an idea. It was strange in some ways to have what would have once been a childish fantasy to be something much more realistic.

She took the few last bites of her second biscuit as he suggested they could leave right away before nodding, though she didn't say anything, her mouth was full, it would have been a little rude otherwise. The young woman nodded in response at first, but then he asked her again to confirm if they should leave then commented about her seeming anxious, she smiled and raised her hands to her hood, pulling it around her face a little tighter,
"If we are further into Austaros, I can keep my hood off, right?"

Would a place where magic ran rampant find some-one with her features strange? or would they be just as accepting, it was a curious question in her mind. Still the promise of adventure, magic and being with Kiernan was all far too much temptation to not want to go right away,
"I saw a large collective further in from the border on your map. Is that also a place?" She added, she was talking about a village, the name she'd read was Shilf, it was roughly half a days walk away, if they were only walking of course. Numira had no intention of doing something so dull as plainly walking though, if she could coax Kiernan into it at least.

Her nod was enough confirmation for him that Erenguard could indeed be their destination, so he carefully etched the path to the central city that he'd just trailed on his map into his mind. Kiernan had a rather good sense of directions, so the map wouldn't be necessary while walking, if he could just remember which path they wished to take. He spent the vast majority of his time traveling nowadays, in any case, so this method was well-used by him. It kept his hands free to avoid trouble or catch food, when needed. As she finished eating and asked her question, he took a few moments to think it over. She didn't appear to be a native, yet the only people he knew of that hunted exotic beauties were bandits in the borderlands. That besides, Erenguard had people of all walks of life and many different nationalities, so he presumed it would be alright at least by that point.

"Right. That should be just fine once we're out of the borderlands, or at least out of more congested areas." He spoke in agreement, now wondering if she was anxious to do so. Kiernan hadn't thought of her wearing the hood as an obstacle, but he could see how it may be a bit annoying to at least remember. "So, soon it'll be alright." He added, one of his hands thoughtlessly reaching out to gently brush her shoulder before he turned and went to speak to the barmaid for a few moments, handing her their room key. He returned to her swiftly, however, and was greeted by her question. Thinking over it briefly for a moment, Kiernan nodded knowingly. "Shilf, yes, a smaller village." He spoke thoughtfully, then sent her a small smile. "It's not much, but I thought we may stop there at least briefly along the way. I... have a small home, there." He added almost sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head. What is there to be shy about? Get it together!

Clearing his throat, he shook his head briefly before turning to look at the door. "If you are comfortable with the idea, we may be able to procure some horses... Walking all the way to the interior would probably not be the most pleasant journey." He suggested, eyes wandering briefly around the tavern in curiosity. Someone may just be willing to sell one or two...

Numira's curiosity was raised when he mentioned he had a home in this Shilf place, that actually sounded interesting. Plus it meant they had a place to stop between the tavern and Erenguard, but it also seemed like a fun idea to see more of what Austaros would be like if she could visit one of the villages first. The idea brought a smile to her face again, though he spoke again and once more she paid attention, but speaking of procuring horses bade her recoil slightly,
"We must..?" She asked, she really didn't want the horses to be a necessity if she could help it. She had stated the previous night that she wouldn't want to ride such a creature, although not in those words.

She hopped off her bar stool and smiled again, turning soon to a slightly mischievous grin,
"I wanted to see if you could run," She stated, resting her hands on her hips, "I like to run. Most people of Kiranes are too slow or too lazy, or too busy, they are no fun." She lifted her hands and folded her arms in front of herself instead, leaning forward closer to Kiernan so that he could more clearly see her red eyes again and she smiled, that mischievous look still quite blatant,
"Or can you not keep at pace with me?"

With that she practically bounded for the tavern door with a quick look back to Kiernan, flashing him another grin as she slipped out of the doorway quickly, if it meant keeping away from the horse-things for a little while longer; she would have to try and force the issue a little. Naturally she wouldn't give him too much of another chance like stopping at the doorway as she sprinted in the direction she'd seen on the map, she got a good enough idea of where to go, so now it was just a case of getting there. She dashed a fair distance from the tavern at a rather quick pace, however only once more stopped with a turn to look back at the Tavern to see if she'd been successful in leading Kiernan after her, she was prepared to turn and run again if he had taken the bait.

Seeing the smile light her face coaxed out one of his own, glad to think she seemed to like the idea of stopping there. Though, as he noticed her recoil, he let out a small laugh. Of course, he couldn't make her accept the idea of riding a horse. It would just be a long journey without some. Rubbing the back of his head, he left his idea of procuring some in the dust. "They're not necessary, just a suggestion." He replied casually, a hint of amusement in his tone. While he felt a bit bad for the way she had reacted, he couldn't help but find it amusing that someone had such a distaste for horses. Here, they were considered a necessary tool for life, not unlike magic. Still, he didn't doubt that the two could manage traveling the path on foot.

The though of running and the appearance of her mischievous grin took him back. Eyes widening a little, he considered the idea for a moment before a sly grin passed over his face. "Oh, I'm more than sure I could keep pace." He replied smoothly, a chuckle parting his lips as he looked down at her curiously. Was she serious? Without a second's notice, she took off, leaving him in her figurative dust for a moment. "Hey!" He called out after her, not taking but a few moments to take the bait and trail after her on swift feet. "That's cheating!" He cried again once they were out of the tavern, though his pace did not falter. Instead, he let himself speed up once out of the building, hoping to catch her quickly before she outran him for certain.

Years of living on his own and hunting in these woods made him accustomed to the need to leap over pieces of bramble and shrubbery, something he hoped may give him an upper hand as he darted quickly towards her. Though, a part of him hoped that he wouldn't quite catch up. Something about this is... refreshing... Slowly, a smile broke out onto his face, beginning to enjoy the idea of chasing after her in this playful manner. She seemed to know which direction to lead in, so he thought of catching up to her as a game. Winning meant bragging rights. They were childish thoughts, but part of Kiernan was still just a boy at heart.

The morning light filtered in gentle patches through the trees that they passed in blurs, the air still crisp and some amount of dew was resting on the grass they trampled through. Taking in a breath of fresh air, Kiernan dared to close his eyes for a moment, loving the sights and sounds of the forest in the morning.

Numira hopped excitedly between her two feet as she saw Kiernan appear at the door and was already chasing after her, a grin spread across her face as before, but now she could feel the rush and adrenaline of a childish excitement, the kind she used to get when she was young and raced her brothers. Though she didn't think about them so much, not anymore. She turned on her heel before Kiernan got too close and pushed off her toes, breaking into a dash, like a sprint. The gravity of this planet was a little lighter, just enough, enough that she felt lighter every time she ran here, it was only a tenth less than what she was used to but that made enough of a difference, for it allowed her to be quicker and more agile than anywhere that could have been considered her norm.

She kept up a strong pace, moving and weaving carefully between the trees. It wasn't flat out sprinting but more like catlike leaps forward that allowed her to gracefully maneuver the landscape in spite not being familiar with it, she could figure her paths out rather quickly so long as she kept her eyes open and stayed on the move, adrenaline and quick thinking did the rest as she found narrow rocks to run across and fallen trees in the forest to slide down on their moss-strewn trunks.

As the apparent race between the two continued, Numira noticed a long patch of grass, not a well trodden path but it was just enough that as she leaped into it she turned around, placing her arms behind her back and started hopping backwards at a similar pace to before, she was still smiling, her cheeks redder and warmer fromt he exercise as her eyes peered back at Kiernan, it was almost a mocking gesture, toying with him as she continued to run, or rather jump backwards quickly, a light giggle escaping her,
"You are not tired, Kiernan?" She called back to him with a smile, her pace seemed to slow only slightly as she took gently, swaying movements and turned on her heel again. Her hood fell away as she brought her arms forward again, long green hair trailing behind her on the air, even though it remained clasped, the long ponytail still swayed gently behind her. She would have wondered how close they were, if she wasn't having fun. She wasn't even concerned about the possibility of bandit attacks, not with Kiernan here. Now she had some-one she could rely on and she could fight beside without fear.

Taking in one more deep breath, still entrusting his steady feet that had learned the forest well, Kiernan opened his eyes once more to find a mossy tree trunk approaching quicker than he knew could be avoided. A sly grin curling his upper lip, he took a few more bounds towards it instead of attempting to avoid the impact. On his last step, he leapt upwards to throw himself at the side of the tree, one of his boot-clad feet firmly planting itself there and using it as a spring board to thrust his body off of. All this without a second wasted to slow down, it only served to speed him up. A small laugh escaped him as he accomplished this, feeling like a child again as his eyes focused in on the woman running in front of him.

She kept up an impressive pace, there was no doubt, but his admiration was caught instead by her easy agility. He had spent years roaming the forest to work on his, yet here it seemed only natural to her. Unless she was used to doing such back home. Either way, it was a happy surprise to see her keeping a position ahead of him as they threaded between the thick trees and over rambling roots. When they neared the grassy patch, an idea brushed past his thoughts, and his boyish nature took full control as a mischievous smile lit his face. He'd be catching up to her soon. At about the same time, he watched her leap forwards to it and turn to face him with a playful glimmer in her eyes. Her hood falling to show her features, Kiernan's facial expression warmed at the sight of her. Yet, her mocking tone was not lost on him, nor was her current position.

"Tired? Nah, I'm just getting warmed up." He replied in similarly teasing voice, lined with boyish confidence. Admittedly, some adolescent urge in him wanted to impress her by continuing strongly. His muscles were sufficiently warmed, his breathing just a touch over even, his face showing a slight flush-- he could go longer, that was for sure, but he wanted more so to win this little game of theirs. Kiernan was chasing her, and now she had to be caught. That was how the game had always worked in childhood.

Mindful that the grass now beneath them was indeed as soft as he expected, Kiernan's gaze focused in on her intensely for a moment in preparation. Then, taking a few quicker strides to close more distance, he then leapt in a low dive forwards. Arms enclosing her legs, he meant to lock one elbow around her knees to gently take her down with him. He did so with the thought that her fall would be soft on the grass, though one of his arms still looped upwards underneath her waist to ensure it. Had his plan succeeded, the two both fallen on the grass, he a playful smile and warm laugh would escape him mindlessly. Kiernan hadn't had such fun in quite a while, though he hadn't paid mind to the fact that this was indeed a young woman and perhaps he hadn't taken socially acceptable action.

When his whole-hearted laugh faded, he opened his eyes to find his face pressed rather closely to her hip as the two lay there. A light tint lit his cheeks as he noted how his arms were looped about her form, how close he lay beside her. Clearing his voice a little, he sat up slowly to look over her, his arms moving out from underneath her, though remaining gently touching her side. "Sorry... Perhaps I got a little carried away." He grinned apologetically, though his playful tone remained as his focus remained entirely on her.

Numira was perhaps too confident in her speed as she soon found her legs locked and herself hitting the ground with a squeal. Perhaps she hadn't expected him to get her at that moment, but then playing around too much had been her own mistake. The young woman half turned in place as looked down to Kiernan clinging to her legs. She leaned on her hand momentarily while string at him accusingly though she was still smiling. The moment he let go of her legs and apologized, she grinned again.

With her legs free she moved swiftly as if she was leaping on him, however she squatted next to him and leaned in quickly, planting her lips on his cheek before speaking into his ear,
"You have not won yet..!" She replied and planted her hand on his head, vaulting over him and setting off once again with a giggle. She had planned on the kiss stunning him, with any luck, so she could once again get a lead. She only briefly looked back a moment to make sure she'd gotten Kiernan back into running again before she sprinted forward at speed again. The earlier display of grace and agility was certainly no fluke as she kept on the move, however after a few moments she heard a yell from above as something flew overhead and landed on the path between her and Kiernan.

A young man stood up, holding his hand out in order to halt Kiernan,
"Stop right there, bandit!" He called confidently, "How dare you chase a young woman in this fine country's lands! Have you no shame?!" He bellowed, thumping his chest once before getting into a ready fighting stance, "I'll teach you a lesson you shall not soon forget," There was a spark of energy around his fists, he had magic of his own, but the moment he was prepared to run forward and attack Kiernan he froze in place, keeled over and hit the forest floor.
Numira was stood behind the white-haired individual, her hand outstretched in what looked like it had been a single strike to the base of his skull, a swift attack. That had been an interesting test, she wasn't sure if she could combat people on this world entirely the same, but she had to admit she had the drop on him.
She stared down at him thoughtfully, rubbing her chin with a curious look on her face before grinning at Kiernan,
"What a strange person..!" She announced, kneeling by the unconscious fellow and examining his clothes, until she saw a faint glint from a pouch at his waist. She lifted it up and opened it, pouring out some triangular shaped metal pieces with small holes at their center. The tips of the triangles were rounded off, if she had to guess.. She held up one of the metal pieces to Kiernan,
"Is this money..?"

Finding the grin on her face, the doubt Kiernan had held over his move to bring her down was resolved. She hadn't seemed to have minded his playful gesture in the least. This wave of relief relaxed him as he sat there, only to find himself tensing up as she suddenly moved in as if to lean over him. Eyes widening as the distance between them closed and he felt her soft lips bush his cheek, his adolescent impulses went into overdrive. Unable to say anything for the moment, he instead savored the gesture as she leaned in to whisper to him. Wait! She did this to slow me... Eyes widening as she took off, a blush drew over his cheeks in realization that he'd fallen for a trick. Kiernan took a few moments longer to scramble back up and onto his feet before starting after her again.

This was when a mysterious happening occurred. A figure he assumed to be a bandit flew down from overhead, cutting him off as Kiernan took a quick stop. Drawing a curved blade from his side, Kiernan gritted his teeth, ready to attack when-- So he thinks I'm a bandit? Eyebrows pinching together a bit in confusion, he opened his mouth to speak when the man looked about to approach. So, taking a stance, Kiernan waited... for nothing, apparently. The man met a rather anticlimactic end as he keeled over on the forest floor to reveal Numira standing behind him. Blinking in surprise, Kiernan hesitated before sheathing his blade again. "Ya know, I wasn't quite expecting that..." He admitted, a grin playing along his lips in a bit of admiration. What could he say? He didn't see a woman pull off a stunt like that every day.

He approached the two slowly, still a tad wary of the man until he was sure he had indeed been knocked out. Looking over him seriously, he nodded in agreement. "Strange fella, indeed. How reckless." He commented, a bit amused that he had been identified as a bandit. He had been chasing her, sure, but did he look all that menacing? Kiernan didn't think so. Besides, the situation was quite the opposite. As she searched his person, he quirked an eyebrow at her, confused until she withdrew some currency. I see where she's going with this now. Smart. Chuckling, he nodded, finding the situation funny. "Yep! Those are silver catenas. Looks like our friend had a decent amount of them on him." He noted, crouching down to search for weapons briefly. If he was going to be a pest, and he may very well prove annoying at some later point, Kiernan figured he may as well do away with what he had on him. That could slow him down.

Then, thoughtfully, a bit of playfulness returned to his tone. "You know, that was a pretty low trick you played back there." He mentioned curiously, of her gesture to kiss his cheek. Sure, it had stunned him, but only because... Well, it was something he hadn't anticipated. Or known he'd wanted.

Numira stared hard at the currency a moment before she divided it in her palm carefully, placing a third of it in the coin-purse while keeping the larger portion in her hand a moment. She reached under her cloak to the back of her dress where she had a pouch of her own hidden next to the knife Kiernan had given her, pouring the coins in, but then she unhooked the cloak itself, pulling it off entirely, no more hood, no more cloak. just the white dress Kiernan had complimented. She laid the cloak on the unconscious man and pressed her hands together in front of her,
"Sorry, it is a good cause," She apologized, of course he couldn't hear her, though she looked up at Kiernan and grinned a little when he mentioned the trick she pulled, "Did not say I did not like it." Numira stuck her tongue out at him softly before standing up and looking down at the fallen figure momentarily before she turned on her heel.

She was convinced partly that at this point she could do without her hood, even if the dress allowed more than her features to be seen, particularly the strange shapes on her neck and shoulders. Numi glanced over her shoulder at Kiernan with a wide grin again, though she didn't quite have the mischievous look this time, instead she walked at a normal pace,
"He will wake, but with a sore neck, probably be mad that I took that money, maybe we should go?" She questioned. The young man didn't actually have any weapons on him, he had been determined to use his physical prowess and magic, slightly uncommon given that people could use magic from range, but not unheard of either.

Numira stopped at a small cliff-face not far from where she'd knocked out and robbed that white-haired fellow, raising a hand over her brow and leaning forward. She steadied herself by leaning on one of her knees with her other hand as she glanced just over the treeline. Some ways in the distance, she could see smoke rising from several locations, they were already closer to the village of Shilf. Though something made Numira stand upright and glance around curiously for a moment. Her wetware had picked up something, only briefly, but she couldn't tell what it was, maybe it had been nothing, another anomaly like the magic Kiernan had explained to her. That alone was too strange a phenomena that she couldn't imagine anything more surprising.

Kiernan stood slowly as he found no trace of weapons, finding this man strange indeed. Who traveled without a even backup weapon? Scratching the back of his head as she laid the cloak atop him, his thoughts and attention abandoned him to trail over to Numira just in time to see her taking a share of his currency. A sly grin appeared on his face at this, though he said nothing of it. She was learning how to survive here rather quickly-- they would need to depend on the coin of those that got in their way. Some necessities they could figure out for themselves, but others, like weapons and shelter, were a bit trickier to procure alone. Her next set of words drew his eyes to widen a little, finding them bold. Is she suggesting...? His face heated a tad, but he smiled and chuckled in playful reply. "I'll keep that in mind."

While he had been rather drawn in by her words on their own, while she shed her cloak, he couldn't help but take in the form of her dress again. It was a style he hadn't seen before, and it's form fit hers rather well, if he may say so himself. As she glanced over her shoulder to look at him, he cleared his throat a little and averted her gaze. "Yes, we really should. I'd rather not have to handle a skilled magic-user." He spoke with a soft sigh, not liking the thought. He was confident he could've taken him on, but it would have been a nuisance, in the least.

As she stopped at the cliff-face, he approached it to stand beside her, looking around the area carefully. "Shilf isn't far now." He noted, assuming she'd already saw the smoke from the town's chimneys rising above the trees. However, as he looked at her to find a reaction, he instead saw her appearing to become alert of something. Eyebrows drawing together slightly, one of his hands gentled her shoulder. "Is something wrong?" He asked calmly, though his voice was tinted with worry. His eyes scanned back out over the trees, not seeing anything of major importance as of yet, but wandering what she had noticed.

Numira glanced aside to Kiernan with a smile, an attempt to reassure him, she barely even noticed that he was touching her, or rather, she did, but she didn't care, it was an oddly freeing realization, especially since she trusted him. She shook her head calmly,
"Nothing, I think I was.. What is the word.. Um.." She paused briefly, trying to think of what it was before the translators finally came up with the correct solution, "Imagining something..?" She questioned Kiernan, mostly so she knew she was phrasing it properly. She shifted a little, reaching up, almost unconsciously to his arm so that she could rest her hand in the crux of his elbow.

The motion seemed natural enough, at least to her, it allowed her to use him for balance, not that she needed it entirely, it was habitual but felt more pleasant than it normally did. She grasped the side of her dress gently with her other hand, taking gentler steps along the forest as her red eyes continued to gaze forward. Sometimes her eyes fell to the forest floor, as if unsure of her footing, which in itself might have been strange considering how well she had been maneuvering at full pelt.

Eventually she would smile up at Kiernan again, though then her face became slightly neutral,
"Wanted to ask you.. If you had family.. But then remembered mine.. Unpleasant subject." She concluded, staring forward again, her lips shifting slightly as she tried to come up with a new conversational topic, they had to pass the time still, otherwise they would just be walking in silence. And in a forest like this, that seemed a little too dull, "It is nice to have fun again.. To talk to some-one.." She added softly, pulling herself closer to his arm and glancing up at him again with a more simple smile, "I am glad it was you, also. It is as you said. Refreshing."

Kiernan awaited an answer patiently, curious to see what seemed to have caught her interest, eyes calmly set upon her. When met with the question of proper phrasing, a small smile washed across his features. He nodded, approving the word choice, "That's alright." The feel of her hand rising to rest at his elbow was gentle, a simple gesture that lead him to relax a little under the touch. "Might have been trouble, whatever it was. Let's be careful." He added after a moment, unsure of what she'd imagined, but aware that such incidents were common in these parts.

His confusion smoothed, Kiernan carefully used the hand he had placed on her shoulder to guide her gently as needed. As they did begin to walk, he ended up using his gentle grasp there to try supporting her when she seemed unsure of her footing, albeit that seemed rather odd to him taking into consideration her earlier ease in navigation. Maybe she's used to more momentum? Brushing the though off, he instead focused on their steps and keeping her balanced as needed. He didn't want to over-assist and offend her, but he would hate for her to fall, as well. He met her gaze with a small smile of his own as she looked up to him, but found himself wondering what was going on in her head once more as her smile seemed to dim.

"Ahh... I'm sorry." He began, free hand rubbing his cheek thoughtfully before allowing his smile back to his face. He wouldn't ask her of her family, given her apparent distaste of the subject, but he didn't mind speaking briefly of his if she wished it. What little he had for family now, that is. "I do have a younger sister, Cara. She's an apprentice for a wizard in the capitol." He explained briefly, not wishing to dwell on the subject if she didn't appear comfortable with it. His eyes grazed her form as she spoke up again, an easy grin returning the sentiment. His time with Numira had been anything but boring, to say the least, and he was looking forward to this trip with her. He'd come to think of it as an adventure of sorts. As he felt her near him, arm pressing closer to her as some of the space between them closed, he gently adjusted his arm to be better wrapped around the back of her form.

"It is nice, good company can be hard to come by." He agreed, smiling once more at the notion that she'd been enjoying her time with him, too. Good, then it wasn't just him. Her next words, however, touched a spot of warmth in his chest. Kiernan hadn't been used to much human contact, and when he was around others, he often came off as a bit distant, cold. His ability to be this at ease beside someone was a miracle to him, and he definitely took notice of how he was acting around her. She was something of a blessing to him. "Can't say we met in the best circumstances," he began with a slight chuckle, then allowing his voice to trail before becoming more genuine, remembering this 'heart name' she'd mentioned earlier, "Though, I am glad I met you, too. You're a rather intriguing woman, Numi. Definitely a break from my usual crowd..." Again, he chuckled here, meaning the bandits he ran into quite often in the woods. Not many others traversed out here, and he lived among the trees quite often to hunt, so he was bound to run into quite a few of them. Not that they ever proved to be a hell of a lot of trouble for him.

Numira reached up to her face a moment as they walked, rubbing her cheeks and the sides of her face with her hand softly, massaging the area with slightly frustrated look on her face, though she glanced up at Kiernan while he spoke again, replying to what she'd said to him, having used his own words in kind,
"Smile so much. More than I do at home. My face hurts." She interjected softly between one of his pauses, dropping her hand again and looking ahead of them once more, though she wondered a little. He had a sister? And she was a wizard? Or rather an apprentice to one? If her translator was working correctly, that meant she was studying magic.

She looked back over her shoulder momentarily. The strange young man from the forest was no longer in sight, she had seem some strange light around his arms, but it was brief and quick, she simply reacted, feeling a slight threat towards Kiernan at the time. Her immediate thought had been to eliminate him, but she remembered one of the rules of interplanetary travel, if she could help it, it was best not to kill the populace, only if her life was in danger. Interfering was technically against Intergalactic Law. So by rights, she'd broken the law, several times in fact. But she kept a smile on her face, these were worries that would have to catch up later as she grinned at Kiernan,
"I am so far from the usual crowd that I am on a different world." She stated sincerely, it wasn't an admission to the absolute truth, but it was still the truth, "And we may not have met, if the circumstances were different. If I knew that I might meet you, and did not, I think..-" She stopped dead still and stared at him, her face turning bright red before she closed her mouth.

Her hand however gripped the inside of his arm more tightly, almost as if afraid to let go, like a child that wanted to never leave its parents side, or something more. She stepped in a little closer, pressing her shoulder up against the back of his with a smile on her face, it remained a little red as she blushed, but she kept quiet, she was happy like this, no point spoiling it now with theories of less happy possibilities,
"You are a good man, Kiernan." She reaffirmed what she had said the night previous, staring forward at the road, she wondered how long it would take, but perhaps it didn't matter how long, for now she was happy to just walk along with him, though she froze briefly in her tracks as she heard a yell from back in the forest,
"DAMN!!"
Numira glanced at Kiernan again and grinned sheepishly,
"I think running again would be good..!" She whispered up to him, prepared to run if he was.

As he caught a glimpse of her rubbing her cheeks, Kiernan's curiosity peaked as he looked her over. Was she itching? As her reasoning for doing so was explained, he smiled and let out a small laugh. "Well, I do have to say I'm glad you've been smiling. It's a shame you haven't done it more so at home." He spoke warmly, though he wasn't sure what to say of her home. It didn't seem that she had a good opinion of it, based on her earlier complaints and the fact that she hadn't wanted to bring it up earlier. He almost waned to ask, but refrained from doing so. Kiernan was conscious that he wanted to see her continue to smile, and if that place didn't accomplish that, then he wouldn't bring it up. It wasn't worth questioning, at that risk.

Kiernan listened to her intently, nodding slightly as she spoke, trying to conjure up this 'other world' of hers. Just how far she could have possibly traveled alluded him, but the question was also how she got here, especially with her apparent dislike of horses. Puzzled, he tried sorting it all through in his mind. However, as she stopped, as did he. Blinking in surprise as her voice trailed off, he turned on his heel to face her instantly. "You... think?" He prompted, unsure of what to make of it. He didn't wish to make assumptions, but by the way her arm tightened on his shoulder, he could only do so. A slow smile spread over his face, a heartstring of his plucked into an anxious sort of rhythm at her words. He could only wonder how to react to this, what was proper in their situation. These thoughts on propriety and what he should do ceased at the sight of her reddened features.

With a tender gaze, his eyes quietly studied her face for several moments before he spoke up. "That means a lot from you, Numira, I..." Kiernan had a bit of trouble wording what he wished to say right, his free hand gently moving to trail along the side of her face in a simple caress. It stopped at her chin, thumb just below it when... Damn! A slight frown overtook his lips at this interruption, leading him to sight softly. "I guess it can't be helped." He spoke almost apologetically to her before a grin slid along his lips. "Come on, we'd best hurry!" Without much thought, one of his hands firmly scooped up one of hers, threading his fingers through hers as he would attempt coaxing her into a run beside him this time.

Numira barely moved before the shout came, alerted almost immediately to his hand getting closer. She knew partially where this was going, etiquette demanded she refused him, common sense was ignored for it tried to argue that she'd known him for less than a day, but the rest of her was stronger, her naivete and belief in Kiernan allowed the touch, the caress to her cheek, so much so that she leaned softly into his hand, smiling at him as he did so. Her eyes glimmered in that instance, the red shifting, swirling softly, though the moment the shout came, the irises became static and focused as she glanced past him.

His insistence on interlinking his fingers with her own was met with her squeezing his hand tightly and smiling at him as they ran together. She wanted to believe that there was the possibility that it could forever be like this, if it wasn't she wanted the moment to stay as it was forever, but she knew in her head that there was the chance that neither could be the case at all. Still, it was a moment she would cherish as she kept at pace with him, giggling a little as she ran, like a naughty child that had pranked a teacher, after all that man was probably a little furious, she hoped at least leaving the token of her cloak to keep him warm meant something.

The more the two ran, the closer she could see the village getting, not to mention she could smell things cooking int he distance as they neared it at just past mid-day. It was a cozy looking place with various kinds of houses and outlying farms visible in grand fields past the forestry they had been running through. In the distance she could see the sun gleaming off a running river whose surface reflected the blue atmosphere perfectly, it was almost like being home. except there was so much more actual nature, not just artificially-controlled ecosystems.
Numira stared out at the view with awe upon her face, hand still gripped tight to Kiernan as she looked out at the people milling about, the smell of cooking high in the air, children playing in the distance, farmers were working their fields, she could hear warm voices yelling to one another, calling their greetings, chatter and laughter. She stood in place still smiling broadly,
"It sounds.. So nice from here.." She struggled to say, not out of breath, but her eyes had watered up slightly, but she quickly wiped at her eyes and grinned at Kiernan, "I want to see!"

As she matched his pace, Kiernan's gaze drifted to Numira as she ran, the image of her just moments before lingering pleasantly in his mind. He still felt the warmth of her cheek in his palm, still witnessed how she leaned into it. How her eyes had glistened in that moment, her lips just a step away, he felt he would never forget. The memory of the fleeting moment was sweet, but frustrating nonetheless. Kiernan was grateful she had seemed so serene in response to his gestures, but the notion that their moment was interrupted by this crazed guy dampened his mood a tad. A tad was an understatement. Still, hearing the childish giggle rise from his companion was more than enough to lift his spirits fully once more.

A devious sort of smile played across his face as he thought of the man, waking to find he'd been had and his possessions taken. Kiernan only wished he could have seen the look on his face when he came to the realization. Before long, his thoughts melted to give way to the sights of the village as they slowed near its entrance. The beginning line of buildings was within the line of trees yet, but down along the main stone path they would travel the trees would begin to thin out and eventually there would be none left as the bustling village center took their place, and the farms of its inhabitants beyond that. A grin took him over as he almost hesitantly cast a glance in her direction, surprised to see her wiping her eyes. He could've sworn he'd seen a tear there on her face before, drawing a little worry from him, though he didn't ask of it as she seemed excited to enter it. "Welcome to Shilf." He spoke calmly, eyes grazing over the landscape as he lead her at a more casual walk through the main path of town.

It was not a large village, but it did have a decent number of people milling about. Children ran down the streets, chasing each other, as their parents worked various jobs about the town. There were blacksmiths hammering hot iron, bakers pushing along carts of fresh goods, tailors taking measurements in their lit windows, farmers selling their goods in the street-- they were simple people, most seemingly content as they went about daily life. Some of which used magic in small tasks, like drawing out the tailor's tape measure, or lifting a molten sword from its furnace. Kiernan regarded this all rather calmly, walking down along the small throngs of people with a serene smile rising to his lips. It would be noticeable now the slight differences in his nationality, his skin and angular features contrasting to the lights skin and softer features than most citizens present.

This didn't stop them from accepting him with a warm reception, however. Several smiled and waved at him, offering him 'it's been a while's and 'welcome back's. He would smile and nod at them, offering them casual responses while mindful of his hand in Numiras. He kept his fingers laced between hers, the gesture almost feeling normal now. She did receive a few strange looks here, but no hostility. Instead, many seemed to instead mutter about how it was different to see him actually alongside a woman. Small villages came with the burden of gossip, after all. As they passed the buildings, Kiernan casually explained several of the businesses. "This is Gruskey's, a deli. He sells some of the best fresh meats... and here, Tabitha runs a flower shop. They're picked fresh daily." He continued calmly, pleasant in expression.
