~Rules~

1) This is a semi-literate to literate roleplay. I don't expect a certain number of lines or paragraphs, but please make sure to give something others can work off of.
2) Both Crew members and Voyagers are allowed to be something other than human, but no other Vampires are allowed, this includes half-vampires.
3) No over-the-top powers or races. Also, no God-Modding.
4)I have the right to reject any players or characters, but I never will without reason.
5) I also have the right to change/add rules at any time.
6) This is a LIGHT roleplay and I wish to keep it that way, please keep your character's as well as your own drama out of my threads. Along with this, Romance is allowed, but nothing too heavy.
7) I don't have another rule but I like the number seven....yes, it's a good number, don't you think?

What's better than being a Pirate? Being paid to be a Pirate and here on the Red Tempest, we've figured out how. Unfortunately, it isn't the life for everyone, You'll have to go through what the Captain calls a "screening". Just fill out this, if you can write, that is.

Username:

Name:
Rank: (Double check with me before filling this in)
Age:
Gender:
Race:
Physical description: (pictures also work)
A bit about you: (Basic background, personality and the like, fill in as much or little as you like, but give us a little to go off of please.)
Why do you want to sail on the Red Tempest?

What's that you say? Oh, you want don't want to be part of the crew? Then you must be a Voyager. You'll want to see the first mate over there and tell them your story.

(Keep in mind that Voyagers are usually from the high end of society, mainly because only they can afford it.)

Username: KageShio
Name: Hei-iro Ti'da Kiyomizuchi, better known as Heiro or just Captain.
Rank: Captain
Age: Hard to say, He looks to be in his mid- to late-twenties though he's really somewhere around 1,800
Gender: Male
Race: Vampire, Elder
Physical description: With features that are a blend of slavic and asian qualities that give him an almost feminine appearance, he tends to stand out in a crowd. He is tall and lithe with well-toned muscles and deathly pale skin, clear-cut facial features and almond-shaped eyes the color of the deep sea. His hair is raven-black, sleek and falls to his mid-back, generally held back with a strip of cloth. His most peculiar physical features are his scars. He bares quite a few, but the notable ones viewable by the public are a line from his left brow to his right cheek-across the bridge of his nose- and a circular mass of scars on the back and palm of each hand.

His clothing is also quite the sight, or so he is told. He wears a combination of Asian and European articles in a graceful way, rich silks, velvet and linen for dress, rough silk and cotton for most other things. He always wears a blood-red silk sash about his waist, and never caries a gun.

A bit about you: Heiro is a well-traveled man with a long past full of all the things that make both a great romance and a horror movie, but he rarely speaks of it, letting only his eyes tell his true age and jaded mind. He chooses to live in the moment as best he can instead, leading the crew of the Tempest to riches, adventure and a heck of a new job. Playing off the intrigues and fears of mortals, he hopes to bring in a huge profit for himself and his crew and perhaps open the door to a new kind of social entertainment without giving up their vagabond lifestyle.

He treats his crew with benevolence and a sort of kinship, but his temper is one to be feared and respected. If any shipmate breaks the code they will find themselves at the mercy of an unusually creative and not-so merciful man. As a pirate, he is less superstitious than most, welcoming women and a mystic aboard his ship. Also, though practically unknown to the western world, he was a feared and celebrated pirate in the east, known as Hei Bao Feng, the dark Tempest.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Name: Silas Zabatos
Rank: Cabin Boy
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Race: Half breed- Human and Siren
Physical description: Slight of frame and short of stature, he isn't much of a seaman yet. His skin is a light olive and seems stretched over his bony shoulders and long limbs. His hair is dark brown, thick and curly, falling to his shoulders and tied back sloppily. His eyes are wide, round and a light, almost grey, sea-foam green color. He dresses plainly in brown slacks, a cotton shirt and a dirty, blue-green sash that serves as a belt.
He has another form that he must take at least once a day, that of a Siren. His skin turns from a warm olive to a cool blue-green with a golden sheen. His legs form into a graceful fish-like tail, the fins sporting black, white and golden-yellow markings. His eyes become silver and he "loses" his human pupils, the siren ones are a barely detectable grey. He must soak in seawater to replenish his energy and to prevent himself from drying out.
A bit about you: He never knew his amphibious father, and he's not too happy with the fact, but he lived a happy and relatively normal life with his mother. Well, as normal as it can be with him turning into a fish once a day. He always dreamed of being a craftsman of jewels and fine metals, but with his mixed lineage and the mixed feelings the populace had on "unnatural" creatures, he knew it couldn't happen. That's why he took the job as Cabin Boy on the Tempest two months ago.
On board, Sil is hardly much use hauling ropes and moving barrels, but he is clever and light on his feet, able to slip through crowds and tight quarters with ease. He can get into the bowels of the hold and back without breaking anything. He's a quiet and somewhat meek boy, seeming quite out of place on a pirate ship, but the Captain has his eye on him, making sure the rest of the crew doesn't toy with him too much.
Why do you want to sail on the Red Tempest? His mother had told him the sea would call, and call it did, but he was terrified to go out into the ocean alone. Being on a ship with other "unnatural" people like himself seemed like a mighty fine idea, he might even get to see some genuine rare gemstones.
Physical description: Orangeish red hair, with hints of brown and blond. She's tall, buxom and very curvy. Karlin wears a black corset, tight brown leather pants. Around her waist is a blue sash, and a gun belt with one double-barreled pistol.
A bit about you: Fun loving with a thirst for adventure, what Karlin really wants is to become the most famous pirate in the known world. Failing that, she just wants to get as much treasure as she can.
Why do you want to sail on the Red Tempest?
Having been left behind by her last ship, Karlin has signed on to the Tempest for a change of pace and out of curiosity.
Username: Staria
Name: Leah Janan
Rank: Gunner
Age: Appears in her early 20’s but is far older.
Gender: Female
Race: Were-Cheetah(cursed, not infected)
Physical description: She is a tall, beautiful, curvy woman…well beautiful if you aren’t bothered by the three jagged claw marks that took her right eye. She isn’t bothered by them at all and seems rather proud of them in fact. She tends to dress in blue and neutrals colors, mainly black. She has white hair and pale blue eyes… well pale blue when she’s in control anyway. When the beast is in control her eyes are a vivid, predatory, cat-like gold.
She always has various weapons hidden on her person including her rune covered silver staff with its gems and charms hanging from it that all have a purpose and a reason for being there. She often wears different eye patches, enjoying playing around with different decorations and styles.
A bit about you: She is confident, independent, and highly intelligent. She is skilled in both the use of weapons and magic, often combining the two. As these skills suggest she is a bit of fighter in both ability and nature as her survival of her curse suggests. In fact one of the reasons she focuses on weaponry and magic that keeps people at a distance is to keep control of her beast.
She actually rarely uses her beast abilities, keeping it tightly bound through a combination of willpower and magic. She is always afraid of losing control and keeps people at a distance by her brash attitude. Of course, there are many who are attracted to the hands off, almost dominatrix type personality so she serves to attract customers in her own way… which is likely why Heiro gets along with her.
Why do you want to sail on the Red Tempest? The same reason she does anything… to learn more, explore more… That and she likes the eye candy on the Tempest as she allows herself no intimate relationships so that's the closest she comes.
Name: Tal Serason
Rank: Boatswain
Age: early thirties, though he looks almost a decade younger
Gender: male
Race: three-quarters human, he doesn't know what the rest is (it's some species of dragon)
Physical description: Platinum blond hair that hangs to his shoulder blades frames a tanned face with vivid blue eyes. He stands a little under six foot, and usually wears loose trousers held up with a thick leather belt and rough vests.
A bit about you: He grew up with his mother in a little mountain village in sight of the sea, doing odd jobs for the money to keep them fed. When she fell ill and died, he was already an adult, he packed up and left, following some inner need to see the ocean, and something else. He first signed up on a pirate ship by accident, leaving it after just a couple ports. He's signed onto the Tempest after that, and it's been a few years.
Soft-spoken and sensible, he doesn't have the temperament usually expected from a pirate. If he was in a different occupation, he might be called a loveable bear, but when the situation calls for it, he can be a fierce fighter or stern disciplinarian. He loves the look and feel of precious metals, something he thinks he got from his father's side.
Why do you want to sail on the Red Tempest? He'd liked the idea proposed by the captain, and signed on. He's since worked his way up in rank to Boatswain.
Username: Arc Angel
Name: Sylvia Keating Hale
Rank: Quartermaster
Age: appears to be in her early 20's
Gender: Female
Race: Water Nymph
Physical description: A lean woman of a somewhat short height, she stands at 5'2" and weighs in at around 100lbs. Her skin is somewhat light with a healthy peach tint to it. Hair is kept short, never spent much time on, but always silky and seemingly in place. It curls in places, but is otherwise rather tamed, its color holding a warm brown, with hints of likewise coloring. Her eyes match splendidly, just a tad lighter in coloring, with a brightness that accompanies her excitement. Her skin, in its warm tone, is seamlessly left without markings, with the only exception of a long, crescent scar drawn across the side of her neck.
A bit about you:
She had always had a place living along the Carribbean isles, watching the local fisherman and pirates come to and fro to dock whether it be for supplies, shelter, or pleasure alike. Over the years her fascination grew, she took up a permanent human form, and began to beg the crews to let her aboard-- if only for a temporary amount of time. She was rejected by many, none such seeing a place for a small woman such as herself on their crews even with her vast knowledge of the area. Growing frustrated, she began to teach herself a bit of swordsmanry, and after becoming rather skilled at it eventually found her way into a pirate crew.
After years of traveling from ship to ship, she gained a reputation for searching a sense of adventure, a way to suit her fancy for pretty material objects. She grew a habit of theivery. From this a nickname caught on to her, 'Slit-throat Sylvia', one which earned her a nasty scar along her neck from a close encounter with the authorities. She then settled her ways after this encounter, and found her loyalty to individual crews growing strong.
Why do you want to sail on the Red Tempest?
She has a natural knack for finding adventure, and working on the Red Tempest would guarantee her such. Her knowledge of the surrounding area she can now put to use aboard with navigation.
Name: Jasper Eveque
Rank: Surgeon
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Physical description: He is a man of average height, with sun-kissed golden skin and typically-ruffled light blonde hair that hangs just to his shoulders, though it is usually well kept in a small ponytail. His eyes are of a slate grey coloring with golden flecks upon closer inspection, and he bears six small golden earrings through his left earlobe-- two on his right.
Clothing-wise he usually prefers loose, light colored blouses to be paired with simple black pants and boots. He nearly always keeps a small saddle bag strewn across his shoulders where quite a number of medical supplies are kept. He does carry a gun at the back of his waist, but doesn't facy using it.
A bit about you: Jasper is a fun-loving, carefree man with an intolerable thirst for adventure. Whatever excitement he lacked in his childhood years, living in a small village with his parents, he has been working to regain since he left home. He has a small sort of reputation, but nothing to be feared for-- while he leans towards finding trouble, he isn't much of a fighter, and far prefers avoiding conflict.
However rambunctious he had been in his life, he has a kind streak and has never been fond of seeing others hurt. This trait he picked up from his mother, who had worked as a doctor of sorts while he was growing up. He learned much of what he knows from her, and earned a living by tending towards pirates in need of surgical care before joining the crew of the Red Tempest.
Why do you want to sail on the Red Tempest?
After drifting from place to place, Jasper sought a more steady place to inhabit though never one where he would get entirely bored. As it turns out, a pirate's life rather suited him, and he enjoys helping out the crew with not only the search for adventure but also working as their surgeon.
A bit about you: Her father dragged her on board, despite the fact that she gets quite seasick. Of noble birth, her mother has never really been a part of her life. Mostly because Priscilla has been told she died giving birth to her.
What sort of experience are you seeking aboard the Red Tempest?
All she wants from this voyage is to get back to land as soon as possible.
Name: Pre'acha'n MacTire
Age: 23
Gender: male
Race: human
Physical Description: Slim and short, with pale skin speckled liberally with freckles and bright green eyes. Unruly dark brown hair falls in his eyes, escaping the ribbon he ties it back with. He dresses modestly for his rank, wearing good quality fabric in simpler cuts, mostly in greens and browns.
A bit about you: The middle son of a very wealthy merchant, he tends to be a bit wayward. The oldest son has been apprenticed into the family business, and the youngest is doted on by their mother, leaving Pre'acha'n to his own devices.
He tends to be a bit skittish, jumping at the slightest provocation, and will back down from a fight far more often than not.
What sort of experience are you seeking aboard the Red Tempest? Something exciting, but not so much that he'll never want to go on a ship again.
Username: Staria
Name: Shay Roshan
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Race: Pyschai (doesn't know, only knows she is not human)
Physical Description: Picture! She inherited divine beauty from her true mother Psyche like all her sisters, though her wings tend to hide as tattoos upon her back so her inheritance appears to be incomplete. Due to this most of the time she appears merely a gorgeous human, her high-necked and old fashioned clothing hiding the mark. She tends to use a short cape or shawl as well, partially to hide the slits her wings can form through her blouse and partially to hide her…well-endowed curves. She may have the body of a love goddess but is as shy as a mouse so always hides her figure as best she can while still dressing according to her mother’s fashion whims. She even always wears part of her hair down to this end.
Her hair is dark red, almost the dark as it can be and still be distinctly red, and extends to her knees in soft waves. She often decorates it with butterfly pins and bows, her hair being one of her few physical parts she treats with obvious pride and joy. She also has large, innocent blue eyes with just the softest hint of green so they are almost the color of the sea. She has pale smooth skin and delicate features, most adult men able to wrap their hands around both her wrists with little effort. She is also not very tall or very short, being merely average at 5’6”
A bit about you: Her parents held a love that was so strong even cupid himself found it unfathomable but still their fondest wish was not granted by the mother’s body. They both desired a child and prayed for it separately, not wanting to burden the other. When they saw this the divines took pity on them. Cupid and Psyche placed one of their own children in the woman’s womb, and nine months later a clueless Shay was born to the equally unknowing human woman.
Shay is now a woman herself, though as naïve enough some would call her more of a girl. She is innocent, gentle, and loving. She is entirely what most would call a ‘pure soul’, sheltered by her human parents and favored by divine luck she knows little of torment or pain. She cries easily but rebounds just as quickly and never stays sad for long. She is also a bit of a day dreamer.
So, like most dreamers she desired something… more than her sheltered existence. She began to seek out adventure and her desperate parents were racked with worry. Finally they discovered the Tempest and figured it was a place where she could get her adventure but they would still have SOME peace of mind. So her father sent her, escorted by an old friend of his…
What sort of experience are you seeking aboard the Red Tempest?
Romance! Adventure! Freedom! Everything she has yet to experience due to her sheltered upbringing. Her parents figure that given this is her desire Red Tempest would be a place she would get in the least trouble out of what she would agree too.
~Setting~
Time: Early evening, 22nd of June
Place: Harbor of Port Royal
Weather: Calm, partly-cloudy and hot
~The ship~
The Red Tempest is an elegant and exotic ship from the east known as a Junk. She differs slightly from a normal Junk, the key notes being a slimmer hull, higher deck and a custom-shaped dagger-board for higher maneuverability. She's three-masted and around 100 feet in length.
Her hull is almost solid Teak with bamboo supports and interior minors, most of which is painted a deep red and detailed with a rich gold. She's been outfitted for luxury recently, the silks and velvet that once only adorned the Captain's cabin now decorate four small cabins clustered into the stern. Other touches of grace, such as clean, whole sails and shined brass give the entire ship a "civilized" look.
~The Crew~
The Tempest is an efficient ship, calling for no more than twenty crew members including the Captain and his officers. The men and women working the ship are as such:
Note: these are mostly just suggestions, not every role has to be filled and if you think of something not on the list that you would like to portray, let me know.
Captain: (This is the man that has say in nearly every on-going in his ship as well as trips to shore. Unless he is out-voted, that is.) Played by KageShio
Quartermaster: ( First mate, oversees many of the day-to-day tasks as well as distribution of food and loot.) Played by Arc Angel
Boatswain: (Second mate, oversees new crew members and teaches them the rules of the ship.) Played by Drakina
Gunner: (pretty self-descriptive, this crew mate oversees the setting, loading, aiming and firing of the cannons and guns.) Played by Staria
Artisans: (Carpenters, surgeons, cooks, barrel- and rope-makers as well as musicians all have places on a respectable ship.) Cook played by PapillonCameo, Surgeon played by Arc Angel
Cabin boy: (an errand-runner for the Captain, Quartermaster and sometimes the Boatswain.This is the lowest position on-board.) Played by KageShio
Deck-hands: (The rest of the crew. These men and women work the rigging, clean, and tend to the ship's more menial tasks.)
The evening brought little relief to the humid and windless day in Port Royal, but the docks were busy as ever. The jumbled sounds of people talking, men shouting, gulls crying and cargo being tended to filled the air as the sun slowly sunk towards the west, and showed no signs of stopping.
Towards the merchant's end of the port, a peculiar ship bobbed gently with slow waves, her white sails half unfurled to show their high-quality canvas, unique scalloped edges and golden-brown bamboo battens. She was obviously a fine ship, her hull was lacquered a deep red color, brass shone in the dimming light and her name was painted in gold in both English and Chinese. She seemed like a the ship of a rich merchant from the east and in some respect (and on her papers) she was.
What was more peculiar than her looks was her lack of visible crew, there seemed to be barely a body on board. A wide gangplank lay in place but no cargo was being moved to or from the ship, only a small woman and what looked like a deckhand stood at it's base. Most would call it daft to leave the ship unattended, but then again, most would assume it was...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The ship's silence was welcoming, but the hum of noise from the docks were nearly unbearable to Heiro's sensitive ears and certainly not something he wanted to wake up to. It reminded him of how much he hated going to port cities, but he knew it was crucial for their new plan. On the upside they gave him more choices for breakfast.

After tossing and turning for a while and putting a pillow on his head, he gave up on going back to sleep, it was close enough to twilight anyway. Muttering to himself in his native tongue, he sat up, stretched and stared longingly at his pillow. After a few more minutes he got up and dressed, clothing himself in loose black cotton pants, a white silk uwagi one of his few fine silks, a light-weight robe of varying blues and golds that he draped over his shoulders. After pulling on his shined black boots, he picked up a teardrop-shaped sapphire pendant and put it on, tucking it under his shirt.

He then went to one of the windows and carefully drew back a corner of the thick drapes, allowing a bit of light to spill into the room. After his eyes adjusted he slipped his hand into the light to make sure the enchanted necklace was doing it's job properly. Feeling not even a tingle, he opened the drapes completely and looked out onto the docks, scanning the crowds for a few moments. Once he had found what he thought would be a good target, he made his way to the door and went out onto the deck, dark eyes squinting a bit in the orange light of the setting sun.

((This took me much longer than intended so I shall stop there. Feel free to post! ))

Tal shifted his weight as he stood, starting to wish he had something like a box to sit on. Or that somebody might come up wanting to take the offer the captain had put out. He really wasn't particular on which, but seeing as there was no box or barrel...

"Silvia, do ye think anyone'll want to sail with us?" he asked the quartermaster, brushing hair out of his eyes. The humidity seemed to make it unmanageable some days, and he had the stray thought of tying it back. "Seems like an odd thing to do."

He caught the sound of a door on the ship, and looked over his shoulder to see the captain standing on deck, shrugging as he turned his attention back to the crowded docks.

---

Pre'acha'n stood on the other side of the crowd from the Tempest, nervousness magnified by the looks of some of the people in said crowd. But he had the money for that ride on the Red Tempest, and was determined to make it to the ship. He could see it, the red hull did stand out, but he couldn't see anyone on board through the crowd in front of them. "Ah, perhaps they are standing in front of it?" he asked himself, trying to see through the mass of bodies, to no avail. "Have to go through..." With thoughts of seeing life on the ocean held firmly in his mind, he dove into the crowd, aiming for the unusual sails and red hull of the ship.

Sylvia stood quietly, her eyes resting closed in a peaceful manner as her arms stretched out before her, hands resting gently upon the cool wood of the ship's railing. She couldn't help but feel a bit of sweat gathering at the center of each of her palms, the stiffness in the air uncomfortable as she began to shift in a restless manner. The hum of the crowd before the ship was irritating in a manner, but it signaled interest, and this is what the crew was hoping for.

She opened her eyes slowly as Tal spoke, looking out over the docks with a distant gaze before a small smile rose to light up hr face a bit. Her hands left the railing, her body moving to stand upright as she clapped the man standing beside her gently on the back. "'Course they will, just look at 'em." she spoke confidently, the silky quality of her voice giving it a low enough texture that she knew those on the docks wouldn't be hearing her. "There'll be plenty of interest in her," she then added, referring to the ship as she shifted her feet up its decks.

His comment about it being odd caused one of her thin eyebrows to raise in a curious manner as she turned to glance in his direction, but she didn't ask. She supposed it could seem like traveling with a pirate crew may be odd, but there was something about the way he said it that made her wonder if he was still talking about the crowd below. Shrugging lightly, she let the thought roll off of her as she heard the steady footsteps of a pair of boots behind the two. She hardly had to look over her shoulder to know that it was their captain, but she did anyways, glancing in his direction before turning to look back out over the crowd. If the two happened to catch thE raven-haired man's gaze, she would nod in his direction but say nothing as of yet.

••••••••

Jasper let out a soft groan from his cot under the deck, rolling from his back onto his side in a restless manner. How many were in the bustling crowd outside, he was unsure, but they were sure growing kinda loud. Sighing to himself, he sat up stiffly, stretching a bit before rubbing his face. Part of him was excited to see if any decided to join the crew, even temporarily, but not enough so that he felt obligated to go up to the decks to watch. Even so, he wasn't sure it was his place to greet them. So smiling, her ran a hand through his unruly hair and then went about tying the mess of blond hair up.

Priscilla Ann Endredi swept forward trough the crowd behind her father with her head held high. Though she wanted nothing to do with this trip aboard a boat which would only make her sick, her father insisted that they go. It was all for the sake of prestige, and seeming to be something far more then they were. And so, that was how the brunette found herself following her father and his guards who helped them reached the rather intriguing floating structure. With it's withe sails and strange architecture, Priscilla had no trust in the thing at all. That wasn't such a difficult feeling to evoke in the young golden eyed woman. She simply wasn't the kind of person who allowed herself to trust in things that were unfamiliar and strange, or were perhaps and most likely below her station.

Karlin moved trough the kitchen while humming happily to herself. They were going to bring in quite the riches from this trip, hopefully. Worst came to worst she would lighten their passenger's pockets a little, or she would have if she'd not known the captain would have thrown her off for such behavior. It didn't matter all that much to her. The orange haired woman was only aboard out of curiosity more then anything else.

Starting to cut and peel things expertly, she threw the cut up ingredients into boiling water. Adding spices here and there, she moved with a sway of her hips to a stove top burner which let her create quite delicious little things. In fact, there was meat cooking there at the moment, seeping in it's own juices and that of onions. It smelled delicious and had Karlin congratulating herself for a job well done. This fare might not have been what the rich guests were used to, but this was what was available today.

Leah always felt more alive the closer it drew to moon rise, whether because of what she was or because it was her nature she could no longer remember. It made the loud noise of the crowd not so irritating for her, but not so for the vampire she thought absently as that ice blue eye of hers swept over him. His movements seemed still weighted slightly with sleep and it seemed to her he'd much rather disappear back into his cabin. The gunner let herself smirk ever so slightly, a bit of catlike mischief in it but little other emotion.

"Good Evening Captain, perhaps you would like to borrow an eye patch against the sun?" She greeted as she leaned forward against her staff a moment. She always greeted him that way, Captain, never his name or any other touch of familiarity. It would be easy to blame the fact she was one of the newer members of the crew but most would just say she was plain cold and maybe they were right about that.

No humor entered her voice but her smirk suggested it as she spoke. She stood, her arms half intertwined with her staff in such a way it would seem she would fall over. Like any cat, however, her balance was perfectly assured but it made her look a little shorter and a little more harmless.... something she seemed to prefer most of the time unless she was angry.

***

Shay's sea colored eyes glittered with excitement as she made her way to the boat. Despite her expensive clothing with all it's beads, butterflies, bows, and lace she did not care much for her 'station' or appearing reserved. She was like a little girl going on a trip for the first time to some sort of Wonderland. Nothing held her back as she made her way through the crowd and pulled a pale haired man behind her.

She ignored his annoyance and amusement in equal parts, her frail hands staying clamped around his wrists as she pulled him along. She had already warmed up to him so was competently opposite the shy, quiet girl he'd first met. Instead she was chattering on about how exciting it all was and how the ship seemed so different then her merchant of a father's ships. She asked questions too, such as if he thought it would be faster or slower then her father's ships but never really gave him time to answer. Her face was already flushed but she didn't care and just kept running and talking.

It was quite a contradiction to watch her when she outwardly appeared so elegant. Her dark red hair was pulled up in a partially up do with the top half twirled into an elaborate bun, decorated with glittering trinkets that were often shaped like butterflies. Her short cape was pulled to the side, an expensive pin with a bow attached holding it pinned to the side with a few delicate chains hanging from it. Her dress was well made and appeared to be of high quality white silk with blue accents and dark blue lace. The dress was so well made and finely tailored along with her long gloves that it looked as if it belonged to royalty if one ignored the fact it was sleeveless and was so high necked you could see it above the cape...being much of the royalty was inclined to a fashion of showing much of their bosom at the time.

Blinking as if to rid his eyes of the light, Heiro regarded Leah with a nod. "The only patch I'd like is piece of sky to put over the infernal thing." He responded to the gunner, his deep accented voice sounding a bit more bitter than intended. He let out a sigh and ran a hand through his hair, pulling loose strands out of his face. "With any luck our first customers will be here tonight. I want the cannons stowed completely with the knots visible so none of them are alarmed." He said before making his way down to the gangway, footsteps already lighter and smoother as he shook the remainders of sleep from his mind and body.

As he walked down the gangplank he returned the slight nod Sylvia gave, then returned his gaze to the crowd beyond her and Tal. "I assume by my undisturbed sleep that we have had no inquiries yet?" He said, more than asked as came to stand behind them.

In the ship's hold, one of the bamboo compartments that made up the floor sat open. It was filled with fresh sea water and and a surprising "cargo": Silas. He was taking his daily "bath" but wasn't happy about it. The water felt good, and he appreciated that the Captain put it aside for him, but he still wished he could go out into the harbor for a while. The Captain had said it was too risky, and he understood why, but it was just so tempting!

He sighed and flipped over, his tail making water splash up and over onto the tops of the surrounding compartments- just more that he'd have to clean up later. Sighing heavily again, he rested his head on his arms and stared at the hold for what felt like the hundredth time in the past two months he had been aboard the Tempest. Maybe once they got out into the water and far enough away from the city he would be allowed to actually swim, staying in the compartment made his tail cramp.

Flipping again and dipping his head under the water, he closed his eyes and tried to relax, letting his mind wander until twilight, when the Captain should be up.

Nereus let himself be dragged along with amused annoyance. There was really nothing he could do save this, since otherwise he might lose shay in the crowd. There were so many people, and so many potential threats! Such an innocent soul as Shay, she didn't think of those things. It was one of the very good reasons her father had convinced the young man to take charge of her protection.

Despite the boiling weather, he wore his armor with ease. Though a few beads of sweat ran down his back, Nereus paid no heed. The metal was like a second skin to him. He'd certainly feel naked without it after wearing it for so many years without fail. It made it just a little easier to reach the boat, how intimidating the white haired man appeared to be.

"Already done." Leah responded, a color of emotion briefly touching her voice. As always it was barely discernible but it appeared to be annoyance. She was not finicky about most things but when it came to weapons everything had to be perfect even when it WASN'T her job. She would not have HER cannons unsecured or any such thing whatever her orders. Weapons were to be treated properly and with respect, or she would use the one who disobeyed this rule as a demonstration of how the weapons could be used. She always figured that would ensure the proper respect if mere teachings did not.

Of course, she had not been on the ship more then a week so he had no way of knowing her perfectionist streak when it came to this. If anything she generally looked like she was lazing about and more concerned with her books then the ship or the sea. She had, however, not only secured the cannons but enchanted the ropes and cannon wheels. They would respond to her staff, with the proper mental commands anyway and her hand. She did not like being surprised in battle so she did her best to ensure she wasn't.

Without another word she swept nearer to the gangplank, peering at someone who had caught her eye. She stirred her beast, the way all magical beings did. Her beast always felt it would be a glorious challenge, as it held the most competitive part of her. She did not see any challenge though, all she saw was a young girl. She looked in her late teens in body but moved like an excited child. Her face was passive as she reminded her beast this, whispered to it that the girl's motions showed she would be no challenge so it would sleep once more.

"A...costumer it seems..." She said quietly to no one in particular. She leaned on one hand, resting it on the side of the ship. There was something in how she held her shoulders and her head that combined with the motion to make it look like a predatory cat. It was more like a panther than a cheetah oddly enough. She didn't look at anyone but the four that seemed close to boarding. Two rich people and the magic girl with her... knight? At least he seemed to think of himself as some sort of knight if the armor and vigilant stance was any sign.

***

Shay's stopped only when they reached a few feet from the gangplank, looking at the two crewman there and then up at the strange white haired woman perched at its end. She didn't look very friendly... and for a moment Shay was struck with her shyness and stepped closer to Nereus. She could feel a bit of sweat on his wrist and she glanced up at him apologetically.

"S..sorry. I forgot about your armor. Do you think...we just walk on board?" She asked him quietly as her slender hands fell to wrap around his hand. Of course she was mere feet from the crew members and could just ask them but she'd rather ask the person she knew. She wasn't sure how exactly it was done... this was her first journey. When her father had insisted on Nereus she had balked, saying she was a big girl and could do it herself. Now she was very glad he was here.....

Tal nodded in response to Sylvia's answer, continuing to watch the crowd. When two people separated, standing before the ship, he smiled. "Customers?" he asked, one hand waving towards the Tempest. The girl looked very high class, something Tal hadn't quite expected as a customer. The other... a fighter. "If so, I'd wager a talk with the Captain would be in order." His eye caught movement just behind the couple as another man extracted himself from the main crowd.

---

Pre'acha'n stood behind two well dressed people, and scooted to the side to see why they stopped. "Um, are you two going to be... um..." He shifted in place, still nervous, and seeing more clearly the armor the man wore. Cursing his inability to talk properly, he tried starting over. "Good day, er, evening, um, were you going to be boarding this ship? Because if you were, we'll be sailing together..." He trailed off, not knowing what else to say. He'd avoided being around for most of his father's business meetings, and managed to not interact with too many people on his own.

Squeezing her hand lightly, Nereus smiled down at Shay reassuringly. "I'll take care of it." Softened expression fading, he turned to the crew members quite seriously. He moved slightly to stand protectively in front of shay as he spoke. The armor didn't bother him ... Not at all, though he supposed it was normal for Shay to think it would. Turning his thoughts back to the task at hand, the young man nodded slightly in the pirates direction.

"Excuse me, but may we come aboard now? Milady is quite eager to see this ship of yours." Polite, but quite to the point. It had taken a while for Nereus to get back into the habit after the war across the seas. He supposed he could change to lighter armor after a while, simply to ease Shay's mind. Though all he had right now was this heavier stuff, created for protection rather then comfort in this kind of heat.

Moving towards the little group that had gathered around the ship, Priscilla eyed them all a little disdainfully. Really, one had a blatant show of her riches, the other couldn't even speak properly! And the white haired man, he was obviously some kind of bodyguard. Priscilla had the feeling this voyage was going to be a very long one. Her father was content to stand away from his daughter behind the others, quite pleased with this little forthcoming adventure of his.

Sylvia would look over the crowd carefully as she both heard the footsteps of the captain near and then saw a bit of his shadow cast over those of Tal and herself. From those observations it would be easy to trace his movement to stand behind them just a ways, her posture kept just as casual as it had been earlier. The mugginess made her uneasy, hands fidgeting at her sides and along the railing, rocking onto her heels once then backing a show of restlessness. She wasn't one of the crew who enjoyed their stopping to port, far preferring being at sea or at least further out into the bay so as to enjoy the water and quite frankly, the periods of silent rest.

With a crowd this size before them, such was not possible. "Yes 'ir, no inquiries before you woke. They've just gathered to a mass," she spoke simply, not in any sense of negativity as it might be assumed, but merely by observation from the tone of her voice. "Though we'd sure be expecting a few," she added thoughtfully a moment later, regarding the crowd carefully before the white-haired man stepped up to speak clearly above the hushed hum of the others. "There we are." she spoke quietly to herself afterwards, then turning curiously towards Captain Heiro and Tal, one of her eyebrows raised in their direction. It wasn't of her duties to greet the voyagers, though she oversaw so out of simple leisure.

It seemed the moment the words left his mouth, Heiro found himself and his mates surrounded by a growing group of observers. He gave a nod as Sylvia responded, a small smirk on his lips as the irony of this sudden gathering was not lost on him. Listening to the young woman in blue speaking in a hushed tone, then the strange white-haired man in armor, he couldn't help but raise a brow at their seeming disregard of him. Perhaps they did not realize he was the Captain? He knew he should have gotten one of those hats.

Shrugging it aside, he put on a warm, charming smile and stepped off the gangplank to address them. "Good evening, Gentlemen and Ladies. I am Heiro Kiyomizuchi, Captain of the Red Tempest." He said, giving a bow as he fought not to frown. He doubted he would ever get used to saying his name backwards. "You may just call me Heiro, as I am sure it will be easier on your tongues." he joked lightly as he looked to each of them again, studying them with his unsettling dark gaze. "May I as your names before we begin the tour?"

As he waited for their responses, he silently cursed their timing. Breakfast would just have to wait, now wouldn't it?

Moving forward, she titled her head up to look at the blue eyed captain. Elegant, yes he was definitely that. Though he did seem to act with decorum and politeness from what Priscilla could see, and that made her regard him with more clemency then she would in all probability have for the others of the crew. This was someone she could respect, and whom her father would try to win over to his cause.

"My name is Priscilla Ann Endredi." A voice filled with culture and strength rang out to be heard above the crowd. Haughtiness mingled in with everything else as she spoke those few simple words, and moved just a little closer to the boarding plank.

Nereus watched as the noblewoman talked. She didn't seem to notice how the man she'd accompanied , probably a relative, inched away after slipping something into the luggage men were bringing aboard. It appeared that something was afoot. Once she was done, he spoke up for himself as well as Shay. He knew how shy she could be in front of strangers. "And I am Nereus, Lady Shay Roshan's guard." As the white haired male spoke, he motioned slightly to his charge to show who he meant.

Letting the fire burn itself into embers, Karlin nodded with satisfaction as she tasted the delicious stew. Untying her long orange hair from the bandanna she wore, and using it to hold back her bangs, the young woman then moved away from the kitchen. Leaping out of the kitchen with a grin, she scrambled onto the deck. The scent of the sea had her running to the side of the ship in order to take in a deep breath.

Then Karlin was running off again to join Tal, Sylvia and the captain on the port side of the ship to look excitedly at the crowd. "Guess we have our pick of guests. Or maybe we've just grabbed everyone's attention with the Tempest, beautiful ship that she is." Karlin had to admit, she adored the thing wiht it's unique sails and expert craftsmanship.

Leah nodded at Tal but said nothing. She was not particularly interested in this side of the business. This was simply the only legal option for her she found palatable to explore the seas. The alternatives were being a rich man’s toy or in the army or a king’s toy, none of which appealed to the independent soul. She’d always been more a pirate at heart perhaps, so for the last few decades had been one on various ships in a just about every role but Captain.

She did, however, observe the guests. The shy woman seemed quite a contradiction, she dressed as one who was use to commanding respect but hid behind her guard like a fearful bird. The other rich girl dressed more subtly but held a haughtiness that better matched the other’s dress, she had a feeling she might not like her. The guard seemed a … typical guard, protecting his charge while differing to her. None of them particularly intrigued her at the moment.

***

Shay's hesitated as Heiro spoke, uncertain. She knew she should answer him but she felt intimidated by him somehow in a way she could not name. Then again… perhaps it was just the natural ruggedness required to survive the sea? She wasn’t sure… She just knew she felt even shyer around him and could not quite meet his gaze.

As pris spoke she looked up at her, reminded of many of the daughters of her parent’s friends. They often looked down on her… finding her too shy and awkward and sometimes disliking her mother’s passion for fashion that made her dress Shay like a little porcelain doll. To be fair she too loved the boys, lace, and other décor but she didn’t like the attention it drew much. Pris even sounded like many of those girls… so very unlike her own shy and timid voice.

Still, Nereus saved her from having to speak too much as he spoke and motioned to her. She really was starting to like him, even if she felt awkward being called what she was… A lady. It always felt to grand a term for her. She bit her lip but forced herself to look up at the captain and give him a small, shy smile. She nodded and forced herself to speak, her voice as gentle as a soft wind but somehow able to be heard above the sounds of the crowd. A unique talent of the shy, perhaps.

”Yeah…I..I’m Shay. I was hoping to board?”

Sylvia would smile warmly upon seeing the captain smirk at the coincidence, then turning herself back around to face those gathered before the ship. Social classes were easy to visibly pick out of the crowd, particularly in those whom had already spoken up to introduce themselves. It was quite the array, she mused, setting out with even a few of the crowd aboard as voyagers might be quite interesting.

Only when Karlin spoke up in praise of the ship would Sylvia would speak again too, done surveying the crowd as she instead turned to back to them, her waist propping itself to rest against the ship's railing as she looked up at the ship with a visible gleam of admiration in her eyes. "Maybe a bit 'o both?" she added thoughtfully, quietly so as not to interrupt the introductions, then sighing in content as she heard another set of footsteps making their way to the deck. The footsteps followed by an audible thunk, a short murmur of a curse.

••••••••

Jasper had taken his time in joining the crew on deck, taking a few minutes to straighten out his instruments first, lest they be cluttered when the guests were allowed on board. Then making his way the stair a bit too quickly, he served himself a healthy blow to the head by not watching his step. "Gah," he murmured, amongst a few other things, rubbing the back of his head gently before clambering the rest of his way on deck. He was quick to join the others along the port side, standing just next to Tal as he looked over at the crowd gathered on the deck. It seemed introduction were already underway, so he minded to note the names given as for now, deciding he would catch up on the rest later if need be.

Looking at the others with a haughty sniff of disdain, Priscilla picked up her skirts and moved forward to board the ship. She stumbled a bit and a surprised look crossed her face as the swaying movement made her realize just how different this voyage was going to be. Priscilla had never left land before, and here she was embarking on this journey. She could already feel her stomach beginning to twist and turn in protest to this new movement. Moving past the captain with a small nod, she went to stand on the opposite side of the ship, away from the port.

It was hard to look like she was simply peering out at sea with interest, when all she wanted to do was let her expensive meal out of her stomach. The fare had been too rich! Or perhaps it had been the fault of those sloppy cooks... Either way, they would be given a stern talking to once she returned, if she survived this horrible ordeal.

Karlin grinned happily at her crewmate. "Yeah, I suppose 'tis what it is. Hopefully I'm not the only one looking forward to this venture!" Speaking loudly she ignored the way that snob walked onto the ship like she owned it. Instead, Karlin backed away from the rail and began to dance a little, swaying her hips and moving her arms gracefully. It was the joy of being able to set off to sea once more where she would be free! Free to do as she wished, mostly, and away from those judgmental landborn pests for the most part.

Watching the exchanges between everyone carefully, Nereus nodded to himself. The crew seemed alright, and the captain just as much so. Despite their appearances though he refused to trust these people just yet. Nereus moved to guide Shay closer to the ship and away from the crowd, suddenly afraid that some filthy person would try something. There were so many people out there that a brave soul might think he could snatch the lady away. Glancing up at the ship again, Nereus sighed. At least on there he could keep a better eye on her. There was so much less room to run around in.

"I hope your quarters have locks." His armor creaked a little as he moved to stand beside the plank. Stamping his leather clad feet, Nereus let out a small sigh. Then again, this place was going to pose a whole other barrel of problems. He'd need to talk to the captain about what he planned to do during storms, and in the event the ship sank. A larger chance then that though, was that another pirate vessel tried to loot this one. All the problems crowded into the man's mind making him wince in anticipated troubles and headaches.

Tal watched the little social jostling with some amusement, didn't any of them know that their ranks only mattered to them? The shy one seemed like she would be no problem to deal with, looking like she would more likely ask for something than demand it. Her guard might demand it for her, though. The haughty one would be a bother, he thought, noting the slight cast of green she acquired while stepping onto the ship. Then there was what looked like her relative, who hadn't spoken yet, and the nervous-looking young man. He probably didn't belong anywhere near a pirate ship, and put the image of a flighty bird to mind.

---

Having introduced himself with the rest of the group, though he wondered if his voice had been lost amidst them, he stepped closer with the rest. He still didn't know if he was allowed on yet, and was willing to wait with Lady Shay and her guard.

(( Just to make things a bit easier, I'm going to say Pre'acha'n introduced himself when the others did. Drakina said she will be editing her post. ))

Heiro kept the welcoming smile on his face and nodded to each of the potential voyagers as they introduced themselves. He also kept an ear on his crew as they quietly talked among themselves, just to keep track of their impressions of the rich "landfolk". When Shay stepped forward his smile grew some and he looked her up and down, noting the fine details on on clothing as well as the uncertainty she had in her voice.

"Yes, Lady Shay, I will--" He stopped mid-sentence as Priscilla pushed past him and walked onto his ship without any invitation. His hale-fellow smile dropped and his eyes narrowed as he turned to watch her sway. He smirked slightly as she moved with a bit less dignity to the other side of the deck and Karlin danced, seemingly mocking the ill socialite. He then turned back to the rest of the guests, his warm smile switched back on. He looked to Nereus as he spoke then, and nodded "Of course. They are of one of the newest designs, sure to hold even in the humidity here." he said with confidence.

"Now, as I was saying a moment ago, I shall be giving you a personal tour of my ship and answering any questions and concerns you may have. If you would all please step aboard, we should get started while we still have daylight." He said, accented voice soft, but business-like. He stepped to the side and swept his arm out in a gesture for them to move ahead. Once they were all on the deck, he allowed them a few moments to look around and get used to the slight bobbing motion of the anchored ship.

Leah suppressed a sigh at ‘personal tour’. It was time for him to lay it on the guests and she suspected he would. She had not ever experienced his… charm for herself, though she had to admit he was rather good looking, but had a feeling they were just about to experience it in buckets. Oh well, if he was bothering with them she wouldn’t have to so that suited her just fine. As if to emphasis this fact she stepped back into a slightly more shadowy space and crossed her arms slightly. Her stance seemed to say ‘approach me if you dare…’

***

Shay might have said something in response to the captain but Nereus was already leading her onto the boat. So instead she gave him a small smile before hiding under her dark red hair and letting herself be pushed. She walked with careful, dainty steps as if her body was even lighter then it looked. It came from one of her… hidden talents that she had no intention of showing unless necessary. She was afraid how it would reflect back on her both very human parents… there’d likely be lies spread about her mother sleeping with some ‘creature’ to produce such a child. She knew it wasn’t true… though she still didn’t know what she was or how.

She was thinking of none of this as she boarded the ship, however, instead thinking more nervously of the other girl. Would she get equally sick as the other woman was? She stepped aboard and waited, feeling as comfortable as she did on land or air. She let a few more minutes pass to be sure before letting loose a sigh of relief and smiling softly to herself. She looked at Nerues then, thinking about his question while she did so. Would he let her go on the tour or did he want to lock her in her room while he inspected it first? She frowned at this thought

A warm smile easily slid onto Sylvia's face, a short, soft laugh even parting her lips to let out a musical sound as she caught sight of Karlin dancing. Her facial expression was content and she watched her in an understanding manner for a moment before again turning her steady gaze to those that would be traveling on board. She wasn't as forward with her excitement, but a curious gleam lit her eye as she observed both the rest of the crew's expressions as well as the passengers boarding. Her smile kept a warm tone, but was playful, even sly as she noted the wide range of attitudes their guests seemed to have.

As their captain prepared to give his rendition of a tour, Sylvia would sigh softly to herself and slip once to and fro from the balls of her feet to her toes. She was restless already, not feeling quite right spending time near the docks as usual, though she knew it was necessary. Most of her life had not been spent on land, so she supposed she had to understand that for many it was the other way around-- yet her body was telling her it wanted to go home. She wanted to go out to sea again.

So as the captain dealt with the guests, she found herself slipping up along the stairway to make her way to the ship's stern. Leaning casually upon the railing once more, she let her eyes closed in a peaceful manner, her breath even and slow as she let herself slip into a sort of lull from the welcoming sound of the gentle waves. The sea seemed at peace and so was the small brunette.

••••••••

Jasper rubbed the back of his head, rustling his small, once-neat ponytail a bit in the process. This would no doubt be exciting, but would it be troublesome? More people to look after, more pressure on him. He almost acted his age for once, his thoughts circling about calculatingly, though in a rambunctious manner. They danced around the fact that he may have more resonsibility for a bit before eventually skipping a beat as he looked over the passengers with interest. His carefree demeanor once again took shape as a broad smile lit the man's face. It would be an adventure regardless of the temporary additions to their crew.

His head turned as his gaze followed their captain with their passengers, then trailing over Leah. The slightest of pouts drowned his happiness in the worst manner. "'Ey, what's the fuss?" he asked casually, looking over at her in a curious manner now, his eyes wide and naive as a child's could be in this situation.

Leah felt a gaze on her but thought nothing of it until Jasper spoke. Her cold, icy blue eyes slid to his own gray ones and she looked him up and down in thought. Many would have found it intimidating and maybe she meant it to be so... more then likely, however, she just didn't care if it was or not. She felt a slight irritation at his child like eyes and loud question, one she didn't much feel like answering in front of guests... Still, they would not likely pay attention to it considering the captain's presence and invitation...

"Fuss? There is none. Greeting is simply not my place so I see no reason to interfere." She said in a tone that would make boiling water freeze. 'or any reason for them to interfere with me' the tone added. She was a gunner, her job was to be tough, look tough, and guard the passengers... not to befriend them. Judging by her tone she felt the same way about the crew... she would protect them with her life but friendship was not in her interest unless they fought hard for it as she would not likely be easily willing.
