Okay I've never really hosted an art contest before so I want to go ahead and give this a try. So here is how I am going to set it up.

* The Rules *

- The entry fee is 200g
- I prefer colored pencil or pencil art.
- The art must be of my avatar in the style of Shojo.
- There will be 10 spots.
- The winner will receive 1,000 gold.
- 2nd place will get 500 gold.
- 3rd place will get 400 gold.
- I choose who the winners are.
- you may only enter once.
- Once you win you cannot enter again.
- Your picture can not look nothing like the other pictures. Do not steal work that does not belong to you. Poses are allowed but do not add anything to the avatar that is not there.

All proceedings is going towards helping me get a nice outfit. If you are interested in joining the contest, then please send a trade to me of the entry fee for 200 gold.

Question where are you goin gto get the money from if say only one or two people enter, and the top prize is 1000?

Another question: The contest is to draw your avi in shoujo style. Are we to draw the required subject in the undergarments (like how it is currently), or just make use of the hair style and colour and go free on the clothings?

ah see... this i have a bit of an issue with.

most of the time art contests are for recieving pictures of a char or avatar that is special to you and you want to have something to remember or show your love for it. art contests are NOT to help you earn money to outfit yourself. that just doesnt make any sense at all. essentially you are not only asking us to put in time, effort, (and since you prefer traditional media) supplies that ARE going to be wasted and at some point be rebought (so this essentially costs us REAL money), you are requesting that we PAY YOU to accept our hard work.

All proceeds are towards getting you a nice outfit... doesnt that kinda contradict the WHOLE REASON for hosting a contest. are you wanting a free 200 gold from naive people.. or are you wanting nice art?

i guess it's an okay contest theme, but the 200 gold is going you your outfit? and you get some art as well? umm thanks but no thanks. its pretty much like going to someone and asking for gold and free art.

I don't think you'll be getting any artwork, because you're basically getting all the benefits;
- Profit (if there was a lot of participants)
- Free art

Isn't art enough? I mean, it takes time to make gold here, and takes time to draw, too.

Either way you're profiting if you get people to enter. Is this even a real contest?
You could easily "disappear" after you get people to participate and not give them their prizes.
I don't see how you'd give them their prizes anyway if the gold you get goes towards your outfit on the site.

This is your first time running one, so I suppose you don't really know how they work, but usually in an art contest you don't charge an entry fee. It's not like an avatar contest or anything. Because even if you don't give a person a prize, you still get to keep their art. You see? It's a trade even if they don't give you any gold.

If you just take away the entry fee, I think you'll have a lot more success with this.

Also, if you ask for a particular style, it's always good to provide some examples in case some people don't know of it. -People like CHi >.>-

Agreed. I love the Shojo style, and I'd love to work in it. But yeah, the theory behind making teh money is flawed, because if only a few people join (this is disregarding having to pay AND draw), there won't be enough gold to cover costs, let alone buy an outfit.
