Everyone who was alive and kickin in the 1980s loved it, whether they admit it or not.
People who were just born in the 80s hold it dear to their hearts, and now, people who weren't even around at all in the 80s (like most of you, I'm sure) are discovering it anyway, cos it was just that awesome of a decade.
So whether it be New Wave, Goth (real goth, thank you very much:P), alternative, Pop, hair metal or you name it, if it came out in the 80s you can discuss it here!

80s Artist Spotlight
PETER GODWIN

Bio:
Quote:
Biography by Michael Sutton
"Peter Godwin (vocals) seemingly appeared out of nowhere when he released the single "Images of Heaven" in 1982. However, by that time he had already been recording music for more than half a decade. Unknown to many outside of Godwin's native Germany, he was a member of a group called Metro. Metro recorded its self-titled debut in 1976; originally only available in Germany, it was distributed in the U.S. by Sire Records in 1977. Metro briefly changed their name to Public Zone and released a single with the Police's Stewart Copeland on drums. Copeland was asked to become a permanent member of the band, but he decided to remain with the Police. After Metro recorded New Love in 1979 and Future Imperfect a year later, they broke up. Godwin went solo, releasing the LP Images of Heaven in 1982. The synth pop title track became a cult favorite on new wave radio stations, and a provocative version of its video received controversy because it presented naked women in crucifix poses. David Bowie covered Metro's "Criminal World" on his Let's Dance album in 1983, renewing interest in Godwin's old group. But 1983's Correspondence would be the last time fans would hear from Godwin until 1998's Images of Heaven: The Best of Peter Godwin, a retrospective of his career that featured three new songs. During his absence Godwin wrote for other musicians and even acted in films. "

Oh man, so much goodness on your list. :insane:

There's more than a few that I like, but some that stand out for me...

The B-52's ~ Technically they're from the late 70's, but that's splitting hairs. :B But I love the B-52's. I listen to them all the time. My favorite song theirs is Private Idaho.

The Cure ~ How could you not like the Cure. One of my favorite all time bands. I even went to see them in concert this past May. My fav. song = Why Can't I Be You?.

Depeche Mode ~ Super sweet. Dave Gahan may be a mixed up guy, but he can sure sing. My fav. song = Probably Never Let Me Down Again

Madness ~ You don't know how many times I have House of Fun stuck in my head.

Oingo Boingo ~ Another of my all time favorite bands. There was no one like Oingo Boingo. One of a kind. My fav. song = No One Lives Forever.

The Smiths ~ Morrissey's voice is so unusual and his lyrics are so unusual... but they work so well together.

*laughs* I don't think I have a favorite song theirs. The one that sticks out in my mind right now is Rubber Ring.

Ah yay someone posted!

Well thats a list of bands around in the 80s, not necessarily just ones that started in the 80s.
ZOMG Theres A moon In The Sky Called The Moon, i totally forgot that song.
yeah sorry
Private Idaho is good!! I really like that one, too.

The Cure have been one of my long time favourites.
I like to just sorta flop around the room whenever Why Can't I Be You comes on, its so fun!
I don't think i could ever pick my fave Cure song of all.
Maybe fave song per album...

DM- mmmmm i think i like Personal Jesus best, but Leave In Silence is really good too.

AS for House of fun, i got a little sick of it awhile ago cos VH1 Classic would play it everyday, but now i kinda like it again especially with seeing them perform it on The Young Ones X3

=0
Another Boingo fan???
I love Boingoloids. We're like the funnest people ever X3
Long live the Elfman!
My fave song of theirs hmmm
oooooh Skin!

I love Moz, his voice is beautiful.
I think i know his solo stuff a bit better actually.
i've never heard Rubber Ring.
I like Never Had No One Ever

My fave band of all time though is Tears For Fears.
they planted the seeds for my love of the 80s!!!!!!!

So much to discuss. Let's start with the B-52s.

I've enjoyed them since I was kid. That's because my mom would listen to them, still does. She had the LPs for the self-titled album and Wild Planet. And tapes for the albums that came after. Like said, my favorite song of theirs is 'Private Idaho', but they have so many good ones.

I remeber my favorite video of theirs was 'Song for a Future Generation'.

I like their introductions in Song for a Future Generation. That's always amused me.

Hey I'm Fred, the Cancerian from New Jersey. I like collecting records and exploring the cave of the unknown.
Funplex? I haven't bought it yet. At some point, i'm sure I will. But i've heard a few songs off of it and it's not bad.

Do you have the Party Mix CD? It kicks ass. It's great to put on and just let it go. And plus it comes with Mesopatamia too. Can't go wrong.

I hear most of my music from the local library's collection cos i'm poor ^^;
my bro checked out Funplex, but i never tried it.

The introduction is great but i've never understood Fred's line, isn't he from Georgia?
Aren't they all?
I'm from Jersey. XP

I thought so too. But checking around the internet it seems Fred Schneider was born in Newark, New Jersey. I couldn't really find out a lot about him, but it's apparent that he moved down to Athens at some point.

Who should we discuss next? ;D

I was born in Newark!!! =0

Lets discuss Boingo X3
I forgot to mention how much i love Who Do You Want To Be Today?, cos i haven't heard it in ages.
I wish it had a video, that could have been really funny.... or scary... The Elfman in drag o___0
XD
It doesn't have a video does it?
Come to think of it i've never looked it up specifically on Youtube....
Its a shame how only Weird Science, Dead Man's Party and occasionally Little Girls are the only videos that get played on TV.

I love me some Oingo Boingo. My cousin got me hooked back when I was in junior high. I even went to see them twice before they broke up. Actually, maybe three time. My memory sucks.

Who Do You Want to be Today kicks ass. It's got a lot of energy, especially the second version done for the Boingo Alive CDs. Goodbye Goodbye is killer and has lots o' energy too. :B

I can't remeber what their other video were. I think Gratitude, Insanity and um... I can't think what else. ;P

Gratitude is a good video.
Stay has a video, and Out Of Control does too i think.
Youre right the live version of Who Do You Want To Be Today is great.
I can never keep up with the last lyrics of Goodbye Goodbye, theyre too fast X3
I love love love Whole Day Off.
Maybe its just my ears but most of it makes absolutely no sense XD

No no, not the live version. The re-recorded version. It's also on the Best o' Boingo CD. I think. Hmmm... I'm pretty sure. :P

I like how fast Goodbye Goodbye is. I like how the rest of the band just gives up and Danny keeps goin'. It... amuses me.

And nope it isn't just your ears.

Whitesnake
Gun's n Roses
Tyffany

I have to admit I have never heard any music from the people you listed. I was born in the 80s, but I didn't really get "into" music until the late 90s. Even my "classics" that I like are usually before the 80s, not during. =0

Ah well thats ok, the 90s had some good music too^^
I like your sig.
BTW, Danny Elfman, who of course is the singing voice of Jack Skellington, was the lead singer of Oingo Boingo, the band we were discussing^^
If you like the TNBC soundtrack you should give Boingo a listen.

Xanny- Ahhhh you like the hair metal 80s X3
I'm not much for them, but go you! ^_^

Howdy- ummmm i dunno!
I could go on forever about Boingo.
Reptiles and Samurai is such a weird song 0_o
Oh oh i know wot i wanted to say about them.
I don't know if youre a Devo fan (no offense if you are X3 ) but i'm not and i never understood why Boingo were compared to them then i heard their early stuff on the Only A Lad album and and they were rather Devoish at times.
Kinda annoying

Ok um, Depeche!
They kinda got really boring in the 90s right?
But we're not here to talk 90s X3
Oh Strange Love is a great song!
I prefer the white themed video to the Anton Corbajajabajbajbabn one X3
His videos can get a tad boring

I like Devo. Not as much as I like Boingo, but I still get a kick outta them. I always thought they both had their own sound, but they both fall under the umbrella of geek rock. ... Oh, y'know what Boingo song I love? Nasty Habits.

Quote:
Do you peek at magazines,

 That's killer.

... I'm kinda late to the party with Depeche Mode. Growing up, my cousin was totally into them but I never got the hook until I was older. I don't know if I would say boring, but I agree that after Violator there is a bit of a change. I don't think i've actually seen a lot of DM videos. Like said, I was late to the show. I should look 'em up. The only video I can think of right now is Precious. :P
