I just want to know what people prefer, Manly men? Or the pretty ones?
I wonder if it has something to do with age? Older animes seem to have 'buffer' guys in them...but not so much the new ones.

Depends.
Some times I get and anime like fruit baskets and they all seem to be pretty which is nice *fan girl squeals*
But personally I don't think looks matter. I try to focus on the character. Yes I do admit they usually are tough but have soft features which could go under the category of 'Pretty.'
But um the door can swing both ways. Sometimes there will be a quite 'pretty' guy who is more 'manly' once you get to know them. lol sorry rambling.

no! I see what your saying. When I first read a manga (or start watching an anime) I always see what they look like first (natural attraction?) before I see their personalities, just because how often do you see a character's personality in the first chapter/episode?
This kind of brings on another question, how many of you favorite characters (male or female) have died somewhere near the end? (Or maybe in the beginning (HAKU!*sob*))

this isn't hard for me to answer mainly b/c i am shojo-addicted which of course means everyone is pretty lol
but yeah i agree with you guys about the personality thing coming into play-- it could change my opinion fast= just cause they are pretty doesn't mean they win my fan girl heart <3 for the whole series.
for the few shows i watch that aren't shojo- then i'm afriad i have to add in a third category: sexy lol XD (and fanart will totally affect me on that front too lol) personality may even take second place to that category lol

I love the pretty guys in manga. <3 If they are good looking enough, I would read through it even if the plot is crappy.

LOL I think my favorite pretty boy is........Well, right now its Kurama (whoa! way to be different right!?) but my first favorite was Ken Ichijoji from Digimon02.
Buff guys? Yusuke? Or maybe France? Or Kurogane? (he is buff!)

I definitely like the pretty boys a lot more when I am reading the anime/manga. It's they're looks that catch me, then the personallity will either make me stay or make me leave.

It really depends. They can have pretty features but act tough. I'm not sure... ^^" I'm in a mix for both. Pretty boys are usually the sweeter kind that are sometimes more comical. whereas the manly men are the ones that go all out for the girl and make you swoon *sighs* I had crushes on both kinds because the characters are just too well designed XD

I love the pretty boys of manga. They're usually who I go for first, but sometimes I will like a more manly character, but he has to be attractive at the same time.
Ken Ichijoji?? He was the reason I started watching Digimon in the first place. XD

xDD I begin to suspect that most people, upon viewing Digimon Adventure 02, developed a crush on Ken.

I like characters that are in the middle. You know, the ones that aren't insanely muscular, with crazy, bulging pecs, but that don't look like women or flamingly gay, either.

Ken.
The first episode I ever saw of Digimon was when Ken came back after being the Digimon Emperor. Needless to say I had no idea what was going on, but I just fell in love with the kid.

I need to watch it again. I remember catching it a while back on TV, but they were the earlier episodes where Ken was the Digimon Emperor still and I just didn't find it interesting enough.
You know what else I loved about season 2? Blackwargraymon.

:) I was looking at 02 on E bay. But it still cost like 30 some dollars for one half of the season. I suppose I might get it cheaper if I bought the VHS, but who really wants those anymore.

Pretty man/boys in anime are as much fanservice as are pretty girls/women in anime.
So yeah, who needs the overly muscled, scary old men, when you can have young pretty looking dudes. RAWR! The magic of animation!
