" sorry for your loss," she said.

"It wasn't your fault. Did your father ever find out a way to stop the cure?"

" no he said I would find out one day. But i don't know I have tried everything," she said.

Duke could hear noise outside. "Looks like they're awake"

"Yup guess so. I spend most of my time down here that i never pay much attention to them, though i do kill some or capture some to test cures on but none of them have worked," she said.

Duke readied his crossbow. "Need a new test subject?"

"Yeah i supose i do," she said.

"Well then, let the hunt begin" Duke headed upstairs.

Cassie worked on some more mixtures and hoped it would work this time.

Duke waited by the door. He could hear the infected just on the other side.

Cassie came up. "Ok i will open the door and you can kill all but one of them got it," she said then opened the door.

Duke primed a UV flash gernade. when the door opened, he threw it out, killing the group of infected that was standing in the way. One infected lunged at Duke, but he fired his crossbow, nailing it right between the eyes.

"Ok help me get it down to the lab," she said.

Duke kicked and knocked out an infected and dragged it inside. He locked the door as others began clawing at it.

Cassie helped him get it down tot he lab and strapped it to the table with chains she then injected a chemical to relax him. "I don't know what else to test. everything has failed," she said with a sigh.

"You can't give up. Something has to work"

"I honestly don't know what to do," she said then accidently poked herself with a needle. "Damn," she said. A drop of her blood spilled onto the vampire and was absorbed into it's skin. "What in the world," she said.

"What just happend?" Duke said with a confused look.

"I don't know," she said. She then looked at the monitor. "His vital signs are.... normal," she said. She looked at the vampire as it began to change back into a human. It got color back in it's skin and it's fangs vanished.

"Your blood, it cured him!"

" how is that possible," she said. She then thought back to what her father said about her being the one who would save everyone. " thats why my father did this to me," she said to herself.

"Your father experimented on you?"

She sighed. "My mother and i were the first ones he tested this on. He thought things went well so told the others to start injecting people. then my mom changed and killed my dad. i killed her. i wasn't changed but i'm not exactly normal anymore," she said.

Duke was silent for a moment. "Part of me hates your father, but the other part is glad that the cure lies in you"
