Belle followed Vadim, walking along beside him quietly. He seemed a little bit off, a little more agitated than the man she'd met before. She frowned slightly, glancing up st him, watching his face for any sign that he'd rather be elsewhere. "Is everything alright, Vadim?" She asked as they stepped out onto the path. "You seem a little... Tense..."

The garden's outside were full of shadows with the sun dipping lower in the sky. It left the leaves washed in fiery orange and deep blacks. The bright flower colors only looked more sharp like this. Vadim drew in a deep breath, letting the calm of the garden wash over him for a second. "Nothing is wrong," he bit out. Glancing at Belle, he sighed before softening his voice. "I'm just not used to this. Night, is not a good time for me and it should not be for you either. Come one, we shouldn't spend too much time outside." With that, he set off down one of the overrun paths that weaved through the garden, the stones uneven but still steady beneath their feet.

Belle quickened her pace slightly, trying to keep up with Vadim, while looking around. She reached for him, taking his hand tentatively, glancing up slightly shy. "...It is beautiful out here." She said softly, more to herself than to the lord next to her.

The feeling of another hand touching him sent a shock through Vadim. He recoiled, but when his hand almost slipped away from hers, he reconsidered. Hesitating, he relaxed his hand in her grip and continued walking. "Yes...it is," Vadim answered after many seconds of silence. Two different images of 'beautiful' warred in his mind--the idea of his mother's garden and the roses and the fact that his mother's touch made them beautiful, and then the beautiful image of this girl standing beside him. Vadim turned his gaze away. "On another day, I cans how you more and maybe...tell you about the garden, but I think this is enough for now." He turned down the path toward home, more than ready to get back before midnight fell. Still, he savored the feeling of Belle's hand in his. As much as he felt hatred toward the human race now, he reveled in this touch, knowing it would be an entire month before he felt it again. Reaching the manor's door once again, he thought that just maybe, this small moment with Belle would get him through it.

Belle smiled softly when Vadim kept hold of her hand. It slipped from her face when Vadim decided it was time to go back inside, though she nodded, following along the path back towards her new home. "Another day? Why not tomorrow?" She asked, glancing up, curious.

Vadim sucked in a breath, almost wincing, though he tried to hide in behind his princely smile that was already faltering. How many hours did he have left before midnight? The sun already dipped far low in the sky. After sunset, a few more hours. That was all he had. Swallowing hard, he let Belle's hand slip out of his. The door to the manor stood in front of him and after a second of staring at it, he pushed it open, almost dashing inside and slamming it shut. Instead, he held it open for Belle to enter first. "I..I can't say for sure tomorrow, or the day after. Whenever we might go to the garden again...together. Just another day," he reiterated. No, he should be honest or this young girl he'd stolen away would be distressed. "You may go into the garden and whenever in the house you wish, but until the next month, I will not go with you!" With that, he spun away, striding toward the beautiful carpeted stair that led to the upper floors of the manor.

Belle was confused, most definitely, and also slightly hurt. Why wouldn't Vadim go with her? Had she done something wrong?

She shook the thought from her head. Of course not. He is a prince, after all. He probably just had very important work to do. She strengthened herself with that idea, and headed up to her room, in the opposite direction of Vadim. In her room, she changed out of her dress, into sleepclothes, and crawled into her bed after picking a book off the shelf. With the sun getting steadily lower in the sky, she figured she ought to get a bit of reading in while she had the light to do so.

Vadim didn't have time to worry over his harsh words to Belle. They were for her own good because if she saw what he would become, then she would get hurt, at least somewhere in her still innocent heart. Locking the door, he threw down heavy bolts meant to keep curious eyes away when he underwent the change. He stared into the mirror one last time, before throwing his shirt and shoes to a corner where he would have no need of them. All signs of humanity he tossed aside while he paced in an ever waiting dance for the clock to chime. He felt more anxious than usual with Belle in his home. Normally, he didn't even bother with the locks anymore and often wandered his grounds in the dead of the night. He wondered if he could do that now though.

Finally, the first strike of midnight rung throughout the entire manor, the echoes bouncing off the walls in almost metallic sounding clangs. He felt his paws shift first. With each chime, he shifted farther. Fur sprouted as he grew taller, his wolf-like feet lifting him off of the floors by only his strong, clawed toes. The last strike turned into nothing more than an echo and his cloak settled into place around his shoulders. The change was complete and would stay for the whole month. Vadim threw back his head and let out a single, short howl before whirling away from the window to wallow in his darkness.

Having fallen asleep reading, Belle jolted awake at the howl. She had no idea what made the noise- it sounded almost wolf-like, though there was something off about it. It echoed through the halls, which worried her. Why did it sound like it was coming from inside? She sat up, pushing the blankets aside, and got up, shivering in the chill night air. Pulling the blanket from her bed, she wrapped it about her shoulders, deciding she should investigate... though when she entered the hallway, she realized she had no idea how hich direction it had come from, and that scared her almost more.

After a few minutes standing there, not hearing anything she wouldn't expect from an old home in the night-time, she began wondering if perhaps she'd dreamt the noise. Her mother had always accused her of having a vivid imagination, and letting it run wild... the idea of having dreamed it calmed her slightly. So, lamp in hand, she decided instead to wander the halls to calm her thoughts so she could perhaps sleep some more.

Of course, mind otherwise occupied, Belle didn't notice where she was going.

The large almost fox or hare like ears on top of Vadim's head sensed movement in the manor long before the footsteps reached the west wing. Was she coming? Did Belle disobey and wander this direction with purpose? Pacing, he made a thumping, scraping rhythm within his room, not caring if the sound carried. Belle couldn't be coming here. She wouldn't here him. It was night! Just sleep! He resisted the urge to bellow that down the hall, but just carried on with his pacing. He wondered if they might truly survive a month without her figuring out his secret. Would she not once get worried and knock on the door or find a key to this door lost somewhere among the relics of this rundown home. He couldn't really say, but he did hope. He hoped that Belle would never have to see him like this. Because then, how could she ever feel happy again. He was the beast and nothing more than that.
