Pammy liked the mornings at school. No one had the energy to do anything that they normally did about third period, which usually involved picking on her and the others like her. She wouldn't call the others her friends, that'd be a lie. She didn't have any friends. Sure, she had friends growing up, but by the time one gets to their senior year in high school, they've found out who their friends are.

It was clear those other girls weren't her friends. I mean, yeah, she talks to them every now and then -- she's friendly to them, but never would she eat lunch with them or even think to spend time with them out side of the school's concrete walls.

She was the first to her first class, as always. She had murmured a good morning to her English teacher before slipping into her seat by the window over looking the football field. She plopped her brand new messenger bag down on her desk and unbuckled it, pulling out her latest book she had been reading as she adjusted her black framed round glasses. She tucked her hair behind her ears and continued on where she left off.

As the first bell rang, and then the warning bell, students slowly began piling in quietly, tired and hungry from a night of little sleep and a morning without the stomach for food. A few sniggered at her, even had the audacity to purposely bump into her desk and cause her book to fall from her hands and down to the floor while the one who bumped her desk stopped and watched her friend step harshly onto the book, flattening it to the dirty floor before Pammy could save it.

She sighed. Just another day in paradise.

Jay spends his morning in the hall way looking at the other kids. Jay wasn’t the nicest guy but he didn’t like how people treat others. Jay didn’t have friends he never talk to anyone but some girls had a crush on him and some girls hated him. Some guys and girls picked on him but of course it never walked Jay would always looked at them and walked away and they would get mad at him and try to find ways to get him but it didn’t work.

Jay would always eat alone yet again he didn’t eat at all he would just read or draw he was a good artist. Jay would see people talk to each other or make fun others, Jay knew this was high school it would past when they get out and on with their lives. Jay would be the first one to leave the lunch room he never ate.

Jay was always the last person in the classroom he always said one word and that was hi to the teacher and took a seat back of the class he just watched the kids come in the class if they were late they would be in trouble and some should just stay home or run away. Jay saw girls pick on a girl but he would do nothing until end of class he would not act out in class he wasn’t like that.

Jay always closed his eyes and just thought this “this is the worst day.”

Pammy could feel her eyes watering. She sat there, frozen, staring down at her ruined book she had just saved up for and bought only yesterday. She waited for the girls to sit down and talk about their weekend before she reached down and gingerly pick up the book. She sat it down on top of her bag and stared down at it with pity. Her bottom lip trembled, but she willed no tears to form. No, she wouldn't cry in front of them. She had to be a big girl. Just until she was alone.

She'd cry in the girl's bathroom after class.

"Alright students," called Mr. Shimmers as the morning announcements droned on from out-of-date speakers hanging above the white board. They were so out-of-date that the announcements were pointless to listen to, so Mr. S talked above them. "Today we'll be starting Gatsby."

Pammy watched Mr. S pull a box out from under his desk and plop it down on an empty desk up front, opening it up. She could see the head of the books inside -- the Great Gatsby books. The sight of the new books did nothing to stop her bottom lip from quivering a bit more.

Thirty minutes later, "Read chapters 1-5 and answer questions 1a through 1c" was written across the white board while brand new Great Gatsby books sat on every desk along with a paper filled with essay questions for the first ten chapters. Mr. S liked to allow people to get ahead, if they wished.

Pammy opened up her Gatsby book and as she tried to read the first page of chapter one, all she could think about was whether or not she should just throw her ruined book away.

Soon enough, the bell rang, and she was torn from her thoughts as the idea of crying in a bathroom stall filled her mind. She closed her book, put her stuff away, and got up. Her ankle boots padded against the floor as she straightened her black leggings and looked down at herself to check and make sure her loose red dress was still sitting straight on her. She plopped her bag onto her shoulder and looked towards the door where students were trying to squeeze through all at once.

Jay saw what the girls did to that girl’s book and saw they just didn’t care who they hurt. Jay also saw she loved that book he wonders why. Jay sigh and knew those girls were cruel and mean they were bullies.

Jay heard something on the speakers but he didn’t listen to it but yet again he didn’t care much. Jay saw the books inside a box and wonder why and then remember about something was today.

Jay saw the books and everyone went to take one it was their next work and Jay just sigh and he got up and took one and went back to his seat.

Jay listens to the teacher and he took notes what they will be learning this time. Jay always did his homework even though he was a rude quiet guy he cared about school work.

Jay went to read the first chapter but he kept looking at that girl who those mean girls picked on.

Jay heard the bell go off and he lost his thought and he closed the book. Jay put his note books and the book in his bag and put the bag strap over his shoulder and put his hands in his coat pocket and saw the kids trying to get through the door and sigh and he was behind the girl and whisper “don’t let them get to you.” Jay said to her softly and he walked past her the kids were gone and he head off to his locker to get his other stuff.

For a moment, Pammy had frozen, stiffened up as someone whispered near her. Were they talking to her? The line was slowly making its way through the doorway as she slowly turned her head to the side and her eyes landed on a boy. Jay, she thought. She knew everyone's names -- that was part of the package deal that came with being a wallflower. Her lips formed a thin line for a moment as she adjusted her bag's strap on her shoulder.

"Wait...are you talking to me?" she asked him, her eyebrows going up slightly in a bit of shock. She looked around to see if anyone else had said it, but she had recognized Jay's voice, no matter how quiet she knew he was.

Her eyes landed on him again and she looked up at him with confusion. She was finally out the door now. She wasn't watching where she was going, which caused her to bump into someone before her. A girl with straight blonde hair that reached her chin turned around and scrunched her face up.

"Watch where you're going," she hissed at Pammy, proceeding to pass by the shocked ginger as she bumped into her shoulder harshly.

Pammy had been pushed into so hard her bag got upset, her ruined book falling out. When she had straightened herself up and had caught her footing, she looked down at the book and sighed, picking it up and staring at it with a sad face before she reached over and tossed it into the nearby trash bin.

Jay had to get something from his locker it was his music. Jay locked his locker and walked down the hall and then saw the same girl from before and saw she throw something and wonders why.

Jay heard laughing from one of the girls and saying "that girl is so weird it is great to make fun of her, we ruined that stupid book."Jay heard that from that girl.

Jay sigh and walked behind the girl and glared and looked at her and they saw him and tried to make fun of him but they couldn't. Just then some guys were friends with the girls tried to punch him. Jay moved out of the way and twisted on of the guys arms and he was in pain.

Jay sigh and looked at him then the girls and said "you girls are not funny you hurt a girl I say your worthless and she is more popular then you." Jay knew he would get into trouble but he didn't care he didn't like these people hurting that girl.

Jay then let go of the boys arm and said "if you hurt that girl again something bad will happen." Jay said and walked pasted them and head to his next class.

The day, just like any other day, was long for Pammy. Trying to keep out of the cruel eyes of the popular crowd, she kept to the corners, rushed through the crowded hallways from class to class, and prayed to any god out there that they wouldn't notice her and decide to pick on her for fun, or however they looked at it.

But lunch came and like any other day, came the struggle of finding a place to eat her lunch quietly. Thankfully, it wasn't too cool outside and the sun was shining by 11am. She bought her tray of lunch and hurried through the doors and out to the quiet lawn surrounded by the school, save for the opposite wall where pillars and slender roof covered a walkway that branched out into dirt paths leading towards the road of houses most of the school population lived in.

Early to lunch, she got first dibs, finding a spot by a tree. She checked to make sure the ground wasn't too wet before she sat down and leaned her back up against the rough bark. She sat her tray down on the ground beside her as she pulled out her Gatsby book and began reading more from where she had left on. By now, she was already ten chapters in, hooked on the writing style, plot, and characters.

It wasn't long before halfway through lunch, a group of girls from her English class came over to her, blocking the sunlight with angry eyes and their hands filled with water bottles and black plastic containers of the school's ale carte salads.

"You're in our spot, freak."

Any years before now, they'd have avoided her, claiming something along the lines of, "We don't want to catch freak."

She stared down at her book, refusing to look up at them as her eyebrows furrowed and she bit the corner of her lip, deciding what she should do. Move away and find another lunch spot silently? Call them out on their bitchy attitudes? Or try and ignore them to see if they go away...

Jay kept walking after dealing with those girls and twisted the guy arm. Jay looks at the clock and saw it was lunch time and he sigh he didn't like lunch time. Jay walked down the hall to get to the Cafeteria.

Jay walked into the Cafeteria and saw many people and he just got a water bottle and some chips and that was his lunch for the day. Jay saw the sun came out and thought it was be a nice day to draw something.

Jay walked out and went to find a place to sit down and he was drinking his water until he heard a girl said freak. Jay looked up and saw that girl again and knew he couldn't get involve again but they did make him mad he was drawing stuff and trying to have a nice lunch.

Jay then walked over and at this point he was mad as hell and was behind the girls and said “is your name on that spot stupid girl’s if it is not then shut up and sit down.” Jay pointed the worst spot in the whole school. “You girl’s can sit over there.” Jay also glared at them he was mad still and he didn't want to make a scene either.

At the sight of Jay coming to the rescue, Pammy had lifted her chin to look up at him, her brown eyes wide with shock and surprise. No one never really ever stood up for her. No one. And the fact that Jay, of all people, was doing it made her feel as if she was supposed to pinch herself, as if it'd wake her up from this crazy dream.

She opened her mouth, about to say how it was fine, that they could have their spot, but she knew it'd be pointless. But not just pointless, maybe even stupid. After all, she did have a right to sit here, since she was here first. It was the fair thing. She closed her mouth after deciding to hold her tongue and forget about her words as she closed her book and put her hands into the grass, unsure of what she should say or do.

When she watched the girls crinkle up their faces and say, "Can't believe you're lowering yourself down to its level," and then proceed to walk away, Pammy tilted her head down, her ginger hair falling to curtain around her face as she looked down at her closed Gatsby book.

"Thank you," she murmured softly to Jay. "You didn't have to do that, y'know," she pointed out as she tucked her hair behind her ears and looked up to him.

Jay watched those girls leave and Jay sighed but happily and then he looked down at her and he kneed down to her and said “don’t thank me alright I don’t like bullies, I don’t like people getting hurt by them.” Jay looked in her brown eyes and smiled softly but then it went away. “I should be going please be careful and see you around.” Jay got up and went back to his seat so he can finish drawing.

It was almost 12:00 he had work on a drawing it was a Mansion in the forest but very dark. Jay heard the bell and he put his notebook away and head for the door to get to his next class which was his favorite besides study Hall it was art class he loved to draw it kept him busy from thinking about his problems at home.

Jay got to the art class and sat down and he was the first person he knew some people didn’t like art Class but he loved it and there was no bullies in sight so far.

Art class had to be Pammy's favorite class, which came second to English. It was quiet, everyone minded their own business (save for the times she heard the other girls whispering about her), and she felt relaxed there. All she had to do was put in her earbuds and listen to her music as she did her in-class assignments until she noticed everyone get up for the bell in the corners of her eyes.

She paused at the door to see that her usual table had been taken up. Huffing a sigh in disappointment, she moved from the doorway to let other students pass through as her eyes scanned the room for a new place to sit.

Her eyes stopped on Jay.

It wouldn't hurt to try, she thought as she walked over and took the chair across the way from him. She didn't look at him, only paid attention to pulling her sketch journal and pencil out. She looked to the white board near them that showed the week's assignment and immediately got to working as the bell rang and the art teacher began taking attendance. She pulled her phone and earbuds out, but would wait to put them in in case she wouldn't hear whispers about her today.

Jay was finishing his drawing and then he looked up and saw her again and saw she sat down next to him. Jay looked around and saw none of the girl’s or guys that pick on her before. Jay whisper to her and said “you are safe here alright.”

Jay said to her but then went to work on a new drawing and saw the teacher and she put on the broad they can draw anything they want today. Jay smiled about that and kept drawing and it was a house in the forest. Drew something from the fairy tale and Jay was quiet mostly the time but kept on looking at her and then back at his drawing he had idea for the art fair in a month.
