The Past Few Hours

After putting up a fight the silver haired woman’s form rested in the seat of the chopper as it landed. There was little time to do what needed to be done. To ensure that the future belonged to them and that none would ever know or remember Sycom and his ragtag team of misfits. They had to be eliminated so the government would be seen as the saviors of this world. As ordered the woman was moved into the specially prepared building.

“Chain her up over there,” Remy told the men carrying the woman. He then began to bark his orders to those that were chosen for this project. All was prepared and it was time to begin.

The drug that had been injected into her earlier had done its job well. Vex found herself trapped within her own mind. She could hear the sounds around her, but no matter how hard she tried she was unable to force her eyes to open. Many things ran through her mind. The main thing besides anger was fear.

Was it really going to end like this? Was she really destined to become the government’s puppet? To do their dirty work so they wouldn’t have to soil their hands? This had to all be a bad joke right?

She had failed the person she promised to stand by their side until the very end. She hadn’t been able to say goodbye. Hell, she hadn’t even been able to tell Sycom the many things she wanted to say.

Vex was jolted from her thoughts as pain radiated through her body. The scream that came from her was deafening. Her eyes now wide open, starring at the unfamiliar man before her. No, he wasn’t totally unfamiliar. His face, something about it she knew. At first the woman couldn’t recall why she knew it. A memory from long ago came flooding back as the male landed a punch square to her stomach knocking the air from her lungs. “You,” Vex croaked, gasping for air.

A sly grin crossed the man’s features. It seemed that this criminal did remember. How much more fun that was going to make this. “How nice, you remember me. Yes, I am that man. The one who captured you, interrogated and tortured you when you first were taken to the SFA. It seems that I get to have that fun all over again. I hope it’s more enjoyable this time.” His words dripped with sarcasm. Hushed chuckles came from the darkness that surrounded them.

Regaining her wind Vex glared at him. Those awful memories returning. She told them only what she had wanted them to hear. Not that they would have believed the truth even if she told them. Knowing what lay ahead the silver haired woman desperately pulled on the chains that bound her hands above her head. It was no use.

A woman came into view, she was wearing a lab coat and holding something. “Make sure this bitch stays still. It’s time for her medication.” The look the woman wore was emotionless. As she came further into the light Vex could make out the object in her hand. It was a case of syringes.

Fear spiking again Vex kicked at the man, attempting to knock him into the woman. Of course her attempts were to no avail. An unknown person grabbed her from behind, immobilizing her. A string of curses came from the woman’s lips. She didn’t want this, none of it. If only she hadn’t fought back then she wouldn’t be here now.

Another scream escape that pair of pale lips as more unknown liquids were plunged into her veins. The cries of pain died after a few moments passed. Arms released the woman’s form as her body started to go limp.

“There, there dear,” a voice cooed. “The sooner you give in the less pain there will be. After all you know why you’re here. It’s all that man’s fault.” Remy was the one speaking, making his presence known once again.

Sycom, he is the one who caused all of this. It’s because of him that you became a criminal, because of him that you were captured by the SFA and because of him that you are here now.” The grin the boy had frightened her. His words didn’t make sense at first. How was any of this Sycom’s fault? Her actions were hers and hers alone.

The more the boy continued to talk the more her memories and thoughts got jumbled. “That’s right. I know what happened to Vexy when she was young. There was one person behind the whole plan to kidnap you, torment you and force you to become a criminal. That person was Sycom. He needed someone he could use as a pawn to experiment on. Someone he could manipulate and do the things he couldn’t.”

Vex shook her head, her eyes wide disbelief. There was no way that her love could have done that was there? She wasn’t so sure anymore. “No, no he couldn’t have done that. He’s not like that.”

“Do you really know that man and what he’s capable of? It was his idea to have those four boys kidnap you. He told them to do whatever they wanted to break you down. That’s why they violated you, lucky for you that found the strength to retaliate and they made their own mistakes in assuming you wouldn’t fight back. If that weren’t the case then you would have been deflowered by those four. Everything was according to his plan.”

“Dear he seen that you liked him and took it as a chance to deceive and betray you. Poor Vexy always the one to be hurt. To be used as others see fit. You really have no one else to blame than Sycom. He is the reason you lost everything. Why you are here now. You were his pawn and didn’t even know it.”

“Stop!” Her body trembled, her vision blurred. Scenes of the past played before her lavender eyes. Remy’s whispered lies didn’t stop. They continued to fill Vex’s ears and mind. As they did a new pain flowed through her, but not from being beaten. Her heart cried out. How could she have been such a fool?

This continued along with the physical torture they inflicted until she was totally under their control. A new found hate for the man she had loved. For the man she had trusted most in the world filled her heart and mind. If Sycom wasn’t already dead. He was going to die at her hands. Nothing was going to stop her. The deal had been made. Once Sycom and the others were disposed of she wouldn’t be killed like the other criminals. Instead she would be part of the government’s army.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Present
Once again they were in the chopper and flying. This time the silver haired woman was going along of her own free will. “10 minutes to target,” the pilot spoke to them. A smirk formed on her lips as she picked up the over –sized missile launcher and took her place, hanging from the chopper.
“Why don’t you show them a warm welcome Vex dear?” Remy spoke getting ready as well. The plan to finish off these rebels was in motion.
Taking careful aim the woman locked onto her target, Sycom. “Time to say goodbye.” Firing the missiles course was set straight for the man she now held a deep hatred for.
To her disappointment the mantis seemed to have protected her intended target. Remy was by her side as they swooped down from the chopper. “It is a wonder they have lasted this long. Too bad they won’t live much longer. Though it would have been nice if more of them had died.”
Now on the ground standing by the boy she awaited her orders. The words she had been waiting for soon came. “With pleasure.” There was a murderous gleam in the woman’s lavender eyes as she stared at her target. He like the others seemed to be in worse shape than she was despite the torture that she had been through during the brainwashing.
Vex was free to fight however she saw fit. Throwing knives drawn she rushed forward throwing a couple at Sycom. They weren’t aimed to kill, just to slice his arms and leg. She wanted him to suffer before she killed him. The woman would take her time.
No sooner had the blades left her hand then she was picking up speed, closing in on the male. There would be little time for the man to react before she reached him. Stopping before him she took hold of the blade that lodge in his left arm. Giving it a small twist she grinned. “Don’t worry lover boy. I’ll make sure you die slowly so you can watch the others perish. Knowing that you weren’t able to save them. To manipulate them like you did me.”
Lavender eyes filled with hatred, pain and sadness as she stared into the taller man’s eyes. Her hand pulled the blade from his arm. “Shall we dance?” A grin slipped onto her lips as she gave the speechless Sycom a bitter kiss before kneeing him in the gut. Her assault didn’t stop there. Free hand balled into a fist Vex punched his jaw.
“How could you have done that to me! I loved you! I can’t believe I ever trusted you!” Not giving him a chance to answer the woman stabbed at Sycom with the bloody knife in her hand. Like usual her actions were rash, with little thought and planning before them. It was clear what was driving her at this point.
Would there be anything that could break through the illusions that had been placed within Vex’s mind before it was too late?
Vlad had Artemis in his arms. He'd pulled her to him, and was shoving energy into her body. Discord was right - there was no way a human form could handle such brutal treatment. Vlad could alter the flow of blood, but he wasn't delicate enough to mend her. Her wounds had begun to seal, but Artemis would have burned before her wounds healed in Vlad's care.
As soon as Kanra's hand grasped the front of his shirt, Vlad's glowing eyes lifted. The moment he realized it was Discord, the criminal's outpouring of energy halted. Already cold was creeping of Discord's arm as he began to pull the energy in. Artemis was slowly lowered to the ground, and Vlad hissed as he was shoved backwards. It took everything in him not to strike back. Vlad trembled with the desire to tear into the boy ... but he did't.
They held gazes, Vlad's own expression cold and promising pain. "I'm listening." He hissed between clenched teeth as he attempted to focus on what Discord was saying. Anger clouded everything he was hearing. Flashes of memory still threatened the corners of his vision, and Vlad reached up to grasp Discord's wrist with a painful grip.
There was a moment in which it seemed Vlad would fight the boy. He slowly released Discord, his expression hardening as the youth knelt beside Artemis. Vlad could sense Kanra's ebbing power, realizing that it wasn't as potent as usual. That was when it clicked. In another brief moment of sanity, Vlad gripped Discord's shoulder roughly.
Power poured from Vlad like an open source. It was palpable - and visible - all around them. Teal wisps of energy flickered about Vlad's hand and arm as he transferred much of what he'd consumed. It was far too much for his Purium crystal to contain. And, as the energy level lowered, Vlad felt the red fog fading from his vision. His anger and rage remained, but ... somehow, he was more in control.
By the time Artemis opened her eyes, Vlad no longer felt the ache in his chest. Hannah's ghost no longer taunted him, and he could only hear one thing: reality. The tall male pulled back his armored hand, dimly glowing eyes locked on the agent as she scrambled back and away from them. Strangely, Vlad felt fine with standing this close to Discord. Usually, he hated the boy enough to back away.
As Artemis thanked them, Vlad merely raised an eyebrow and flexed his bloody gauntlet. He said nothing in return. There was nothing he needed to say.
The Scorpiocat's death cry drew Vlad's attention. Cold pulsed from him in anticipation. That was when he saw the others fall. Shadow was trying to wake Volkov. Ashes ... he was in horrible shape.
His gaze flickered to Mozilla, who was standing a few feet away. The youth's accusing glare was piercing, but Vlad met it in silence. His fierce expression darkened when he moved toward the boy. He held the youth's eyes until the sound of a chopper's blade caught their attention. Vlad's gaze slowly moved upward. And that was when the light struck.
Pain radiated out from the blade Mozilla had thrown - it struck him straight in the chest. Vlad grasped the wire, his growl feral ... until he realized what was happening. Mozilla was saving them. That final shock that the boy sent them was enough to keep them going. The light faded, and the ash was suffocating ... but they were alive. He jerked the blade free and kept it from bleeding.
Vlad reached out to the nearest person - Discord - and pulled the male's shoulder until they were closer together. Comfort? Perhaps, but it was unlikely. Perhaps it was the only amount of thanks that Kanra would receive. The tall criminal reached out to Artemis, offering his hand palm up. They were only a few feet from one another. "Come." They needed to get to the others. Especially ... with Vex's return.
Vlad's gaze was locked on the woman as she went full out on Sycom. She intended to kill him, didn't she?
((Note: Love how Vlad is just sorta ... watching that. Great observation, genius.))
-
Sai felt a rush of energy just as he realized what the sound was. The final surge of adrenaline allowed him to reach the Scorpiocat's scaled claws, though hardly in time. He felt his skin burn, and tried not to think about it. The heat took his breath away, and the shelter he'd found wasn't enough to save him completely. Sai cried out, but a strange lavender glow surrounded him like a comforting embrace. Clasping his seared arm, the male grit his teeth through the sudden pain. The glow ... Siri, he supposed, the woman who'd loved him ... she'd protected him from death. He should be dead.
Sai caught sight of Vex's twisted aura as she descended. She was fire and death, darkness and pain. The agent's heart hurt just seeing her from afar. He reached up to brush his blindfold, though suddenly recalled it was no longer in place. His pale eyes moved like one who could see - he certainly could. Scars surrounded his eyes and marred his features - it made him uncomfortable under normal circumstances, but here ... it didn't matter. Was this the end? To be brought down by their own? First Vlad, now Vex?
Sai reached for his Purium blaster, wondering if that was even an option now that Vex was so ... twisted. She had her Purium still, didn't she? The silver-haired male cringed at the thought, but drew the weapon and sighted Vex as she began to beat Sycom. He couldn't let her do this.
In silence, he felt the gun shaking in his hand. It was a calm purple aura that steadied his aim. Sai let his breath settle, then he pulled the trigger. He'd missed Vlad. Perhaps this time he'd hit his mark.
((Note: Do with this scene what you please, but I figured little baby Sai had to step up and actually do SOMETHING FOR ONCE.))
Volkov heard a scream in the distance, it made her confused as she floated in the cold waters that were surely leading her to death. Russian bitch? Obviously she had pissed off more people then she thought. But the voice drew her to find feeling in her legs. Standing in the water as it flowed around her body, she waded towards shore. Every step, her chest throbbed with pain, and her body ached. yet something inside her heart told her to fight to reach shore. Pulling herself out of the icy current, she gasped and her eyes fluttered open. She saw Ashes as he pushed the beast off of them, and turning her head slowly she saw Shadow. The criminal had done it, she had killed the monster. "Russian bitch eh?" she choked and coughed, turning her head away and spat out blood. Licking her lips her eyes turned up to Ashes. Reaching out weakly, she clutched his ripped shirt tightly, a relief in her eyes. Scar had healed him enough that he was ok. Well at least a bit better off then she was.
Just as Scar came to join them, a bright light crashed through the area. More pain, burning, and disburse came at them. Groaning as the high pitched sound rang in her ears from the impact, she looked to Cias. He had saved them, transferring his energy to them. A tear slipped from her eyes as she rolled onto her stomach. Looking to Shadow's leg, her knee was dislocated, but other then that she was good. Just tired and beat up like the rest of them. Groaning as her blood flowed from the cut on her cheek, the woman took hold of Shadow's leg. Without a word she snapped it back in place and watched as the woman gave a shout. It was never fun relocating anything. "Payback for the bitch comment." she said with dry humor, a smirk playing on her lips. Grabbing vials from Scar, she handed them to Ashes and Shadow. "Adrenaline. Its all I have left." she explained, knowing they would drink it when they were ready.
Then Vex approached. She attacked Sycom, and it was something Volkov found she didn't know how to act. This man had nearly killed Ashes and herself. And then nearly killed them again by making them fight scorpiocat. Now they were going to die by the government hell bent on destroying him and his team. The odds were really stacked up against him. But she knew that she had to act. Vex wasn't herself, even if she didn't completely mind that she was beating the complete shit out of Sycom. Karmas a bitch. Then her eyes caught Remy.
"That little fuck." Volkov cursed, and drew her guns out of Scar. Sai shot at Vex, but the Russian knew who the true target was. She knew the look of a commander when she saw one. Had she ever mentioned she was one of the greatest shots in special forces? Well kids here was the example.
Bang. Bang.
Her shot rang out, one nailing Remy in the knee, so he wasn't going anywhere, and to be a pain, she nailed him in the opposite shoulder. Her eyes hard as she held her guns out in front of her. With Remy down, she turned her gaze to Vex.
Bang!
Sai's shot rang out, it had missed. But it got their attention on him long enough for her to act.
Bang! Bang!
Her shots rang out. One shot the knife out of Vex's hand, the other grazed her cheek. A warning shot. Next time it would be between the eyes. Stepping forward, the hybrid woman's eyes were hard. "Vex, step back. I don't want to kill you." she called, her voice firm. Looking to Sycom and back to the woman, she noticed Remy trying to move.
BANG!
Another shot in his other leg. "Don't you dare move." she sneered, knowing she was going to get jumped at any second. But she was buying time for her team to react. At this point her legs felt shaky, but she wouldn't let herself falter. Not again. She wouldn't fail. Turning her eyes back to Vex she smirked. "I'm not much of a fan of this ass hole either, I honestly don't mind if you beat the shit out of Sycom." she said with a smirk. "But I can't let you kill him." she said and held her guns firm and at the ready. "He's stupid. Emotional. Rash. And yes, he used people. All of us on this team. We are pawns. But we knew that. We all knew that. We still fight, though. Its our actions ultimately in the end." she said and met those eyes with her own hard blue silver eyes. "In the end he will pay for his sins, as will we all. But its how you react. Killing him isn't the answer. It makes you no better then him, no better then Remy who did this to you, gave you this unrational anger. So make your choice. If you make the wrong one, my next shot wont be so kind." Volkov warned. Her energy was draining fast, and she didn't know how much longer she was going to be able to stand. But she had to play her bluff, so the others could get their asses in gear. And hopefully fast! Dying a second time didn't seem like a fun time.
He felt sick. Stumbling, he found his hand resting on that of the mantis. Why was it still with him. Why was it still--
His questioning was put on hold when I found himself taking knives to the arms and legs. Each rip of the knife cut into him in more ways that one. It was like a taunting memory, something he had since tried to forget. But it was back now, and back with vengeance.
"Ack," he grit his teeth as a blade was forced into his arm. As he spasmed, the mantis found its eyes moving on its new target -- Vex.
"No," he spat, realizing full-well that the mantis was looking to the man with the redhead. He had no idea why, but for some odd reason, the mantis wanted to help. Had it realized that fighting humanity was futile? Or was there something more at stake here? Was there something deeper?
Speaking of deeper, the pain that jerked through his body was really starting to toy with his conscience. He was already fatigued from a heavy day's work and to have the air thick with the scent of death? Why, it was unbearable. How was he to survive when so much wanted him dead.
What have I done to receive such ill-fated karma? Was I wrong to save people? Was I wrong to give criminals another chance? Was I wrong to attack the monster that sought to bring us down? Was I wrong to question those in charge and forge a new path to a new era of life?
The blade in his arm twisted, causing his body to grow nauseous. If he could have thrown up, he would have but Vex's tight grip on him ceased any such actions. The world was spinning, he was spinning, and before he knew it, he received a bittersweet kiss. It was so melodramatic it should have been funny, but it wasn't. No, this was the kiss of a woman who truly thought she was wronged? Had he really wronged her? Had he ever hurt her?
Yes, yes he had. But not in the ways she believed. He was too much a coward to save her back then, but he wanted to. Why, he even pleaded with Daliah to help but the woman wouldn't listen. Everything Vex was fed was a lie, twisted and turned to make the redhead look like the villain. If he were the villain, she would have already died.
Again, the blade went back into his already pain-stricken arm. This was beginning to be too much. How could his body keep enduring this? Her acts might have cut him, but her words were the real venom. It was with those pretty, perfect lips that she would pry Sycom of his life and cast him into Hell. If only she knew that no matter what pain she inflicted upon him, his love for her would remain forever unwavering.
It was then when gunshots rang across the air. They started to pelt the woman before him and Sycom's gaze fell from one of sorrow and sadness to one of pure rage. He knew not where he found the strength, but he broke free of Vex's iron grip and actually punted one of the bullets off its course. No one, and he meant no one was going to get free passes to shoot at his wife!
Eyes glowing and his fury building, he began to lose himself. And with each seething step, the mantis followed. As his left foot moved, its left foot moved. As he curled his lips, it barred its fangs.
"You," his hand reached out but his action was cutoff by the waving of a large, bladed object -- the mantis' "hand." The blade came close, cutting the frayed end of Volkov's hair. Eyes wild, he snapped. "This is my fight not yours! Lay down your weapon or I shall take the life you don't deserve to have!"
Towering behind him stood the mantis. Every wrinkle on Sycom's wrathful face was matched by that of the mantis. Every gesture, spasm, and shift of the eye was also mimicked.
And then it clicked. It finally clicked. His eyes. The mantis' eyes. They were the same. Exactly the same. Sycom was... controlling the beast.
Turning his gaze from Sai and Volkov, he redirected his attention on the woman who fought him. "You want to fight me, Nikita Davis, then go right ahead. Kill me, do whatever you must to feel better. Honestly don't care what you think of me because of that's how you feel then we never should have wed. Since the day I first saw you, I have always loved you. I always will."
The mantis dropped its blades before Sycom, acting like a shield to keep her knifes at bay. Only, Sycom wouldn't have it. Pulling the blades away, he let his body become fully visible to her. "Go ahead, fight me, but I will never raise a hand to you nor will I hurt you." Releasing the weapon he used earlier, Sycom raised his hands above his head. The mantis, still under his control, mimicked his actions, which probably looked rather silly despite the gravity of the situation.
TL;DR
Sycom's getting his ass kicked. He's pissed that people are shooting at his wife so he literally swats away a bullet. In his rage, he threatens Volkov's life. Then he turns back to Vex and tells her she can kill him but he won't hurt her. OH and he is now controlling the mantis. Who knew he had Purium?
---------- Post added 10-03-2014 at 01:42 PM ----------
Someone needed to put a beeper on that woman. Before Ashes could even tell Volkov to keep from another couple's fight, the Russian was firing away her guns. Sure, Ashes wanted to help but he knew all too well what a lover's quarrel looked like. If anyone could take on Vex, it would be Sycom. And, if he failed, at least he could die knowing he tried.
Despite it all, Ashes actually felt sorry for the guy. He had tried so hard. He wanted to make a change. He wanted to save lives. And for what? To have it all come back to bite him in the ass?
Sure enough, Ashes' gut was on-cue and Sycom lashed out at Volkov. Knowing full well how women tend to behave, he lurked forward and yanked the woman back. "This is their fight, not yours. Save your strength for the real enemy."
Looking past the mantis, Sycom, and Vex, stood Remy and what appeared to be an army of elite soldiers. "They're the ones that have tainted your eyes and are calling the shots. They're the enemy. And," he grit his teeth, "I'm ashamed to say I worked for them."
Clapping, one of the men with metals all over his coat stepped forward. "Why Skywalker, you've changed. I see you've lost sight of what matters most. Patriotism."
"LIES!" Hissing, the cat-man inched forward. Man did he want to give this asshole a new asshole! As much as he wanted to engage the guy, he knew better. The team, well what was left of the team, didn't know who they were up against. He needed to brief them and quickly before they did any real damage.
"You are not to kill any of these criminals," he barked out. "Do you understand. We're to render them useless, not dead. If we kill ANY of these men, we'll become full-fledged terrorists and will not only have the army looking for us but the CIA, FBI, SS, and whoever else."
Gleaming over the faces, he saw the Secretary of Defense, Secretary of War, his Commanding Officer, the Vice President, and about four other high ranking government officials, including one Mr. Parker, the father to Olivia Estelle Rue Parker. Or as the SFA knows her, Hime. Alongside these important people, were about five elite soldiers, each trained in the art of kicking serious ass.
And, of course, there was Remy to deal with. Despite taking a ton of bullets, he was doing just fine. Laughing and moving. Where his bones noodles? And skin? Was it putty? Could it really heal like that?
His attention shifted to the one that knew the most about the boy -- Discord. What was Discord's angle in all of this. Was he with Remy? Or did he finally cut dies with the kid that betrayed them all?
The snake fell with a thud, smoke running from the eyes. For a moment Okami stood there, before reaching a hand up to brush a few strands of black hair that had come loose out of his eyes. He adjusted his glasses, before his eyes were drawn to the sky, where a copter was coming in. Two forms came out, his mind running through the information he had been given. The one, the small boy. He recognized him from files he had been looking into back when he was...elsewhere. The other was the woman who seemed to have caught Sycom's fancy. He raised an eyebrow. What was going to happen now? He watched, as the scene began to unfold. The firing of weapons, the female going after the man he was to protect.
In an instant, Oblivion was out, the barrels pointed at the female over the director. The shot trained directly at her head. Dispite being under orders to never make a kill shot, there were instances that threatened to push that order, this was one of them. With such events taking place, his first measures were to ensure the safety of the other man. However, when said man when on a bit of a loose cannon rampage himself about not desiring her to be killed, Okami sighed. He lowered his weapon without firing a single shot. Affairs of the heart...liabilities. He scanned the others for a moment, before his eyes lifted to the mantis. It was dangerously close to a series of buildings that already looked like they were going to crumble.
Getting a good look at the scene now, it all looked like it had been through hell. The situation was not one any of them should be taking lightly. He sighed, what the hell was taking so long?
Kanra clenched his jaw slightly when the flow of energy began to move through his body. It only at first served to remind him how much pain he was in, and how damaged his physical form already was. He pushed the pain out of his mind however, focusing on the task at hand. His mind was set on taking in that power being forced through his body. He absorbed it, allowing it to begin slowly coursing through his body. Part of it went to healing Artamis, but there was still excess. That in turn, allowed him to also focus on healing himself as well. Replenishing his own energy and form. It slowly began to ebb the pain away, and he was able to relax a bit. The work paid off it seemed, as soon enough, Artamis was awake and looking at them. He allowed his hand to slip away from her heart, watching her movements and as she looked at them. Her words of thanks were nice, but unneeded.
He had not done it to be thanked, or to be some hero. It was the best option for all of them, plain and simple. She was alive, Vlad was calm, and he was better off now than he had been a bit before. He stood himself, taking a bit of a breath to allow his own nerves and heart to calm. The action going on around him had faded to the background for a bit now. He felt a hand on his shoulder, and what almost felt like a hug from Vlad, which confused him momentarily, the action not expected. He looked at the other, catching his eye. He did not say a word, understanding in his own way, this was sort of a thank you. He let the two of them go, taking another calming breath. However, it was interrupted by what happened next. His eyes turned to the copter, and narrowed darkly.
The form there, he glared at it, knowing it well now. The image had been burned into his mind, both sides of it. He felt something dark stir within him, something that did in fact feel like Berserker. The other had taken notice as well, as the two stepped out of the copter. He watched the male, ignoring the female for now. She had immediately gone for Sycom, attacking him. His hands clenched, as he watched that smug little faced bastard. He was here...he actually had the god damned nerve to show his face. He did not realize he had been clenching his jaw, until he tasted blood inside of his mouth, he had bitten the inside of his cheek. He watched him, for a moment, before seeming to sense him the bastard looked in his direction. His smile grew, one that made the dark thing inside of Kanra twist.
Kill him... Berserker's voice rose up inside of his mind. Kill.... A pain running through his head, he placed a hand upon it. He flinched, a sharp ringing had taken up inside of his head. What the hell was going on?! He forced his eyes back onto Remy, who seemed to be laughing. He looked like he was speaking, but Kanra could not hear the words. He was sure they were merely taunts, words picking at the wound he had instilled. Playing with his mind, plaing with his emotions. His eyes lightened a bit, focusing on the other. Kill. He glared. Kill. The thoughts inside of him where Berserker was concerned were on nothing more within the fight other than the one across the field. He could feel his heart racing a bit, his nails lightly digging into his head as the ringing escaladed.
For some reason, as all of this felt so unfamiliar, it also felt oddly familiar as well. He did not know the full reasoning behind it, but the facts still remained. His eyes went to the russian woman, as she fired at him. It was now that he finally registered more of what was going on with the rest of them. Things were a mess, the girl was fighting Sycom, others were trying to kill her, then Sycom wen crazy for a moment. He watched him, the look in his eyes, the way he spoke. He listened, something familiar within that to. He was willing to let her kill him...to let her destroy him, as he was willing at the same time to destroy anyone who tried to harm her. An image flashed in his mind, of a smiling woman, and a colder man. He fliched. His parents....those feelings...love...hate...confusion...anger...pain. He clenched his jaw tightly.
He was torn, half of him wanted nothing more than to slit that bastard Remy's throat...but half of him wanted to stay, to help... It confused him, and annoyed him. Why the hell should he give a damn about any of them? Why the hell should he care if they lived or died? Any of them? Why should he give a single screwed up damn about one once of their pitiful lives.... He shook his head, because.....they wernt pitiful... His eyes moved to each of them, they were the same as him. As much as he had tried to fight it from day one, they were like him in a way....yet all were different as well. None of them had ever made much effort with him..most of them thought he was a freak...crazy... He could not blame them, perhaps he was indeed only that.
They were people similar to him, they all had their own lives and situations. Even though they all had started out hating each other's guts, and possibly part of them still did, they were in many ways....a family. A family....he looked to them for a moment again, then to Remy once more. He seemed unphased by the attacks, laughing. That laugh, his jaw clenched. He was a big reason for all of this...a reason for everyone to be hurting and angry. Kill. He glared at him once more, but the sound of cracking to his side made his eyes shift yet again. Nearby buildings, ones near where Sycom and that woman were, were in bad shape. They were cracking, the support holding it up was giving out. The mantis beast protecting them from the attacks of the others, it did not seem that any of them noticed the building.
He glanced back at Remy, before at the building again. His mind and heart still torn...He had a chance....a chance to stop that bastard, a chance to end his god damned life... A louder crack issued, and a portion of the building began to shift. He looked, as large bolder like chunks began to tumble through the air towards the two unaware on the ground and himself. Two members of this serverely jacked up little family of theirs...who had been hurt and manipulated as well by that man... He glared, his body moving before his mind. Screw it...screw it all....He did not care at the moment if the other was there..if he was watching. His life..his existance...it meant nothing to Kanra, the ones who did matter...he needed to protect. He moved over to the two, grabbing ahold of Vex's arm.
He ignored whatever remarks might come from Sycom at this, looking at him for a moment. He shoved the girl into his arms, forcing him to take ahold of her. There was no time to argue, no time to waste. None of the others close enough to act for the moment. He sighed, giving a smile, before he placed his hand with his own purium on to the two of their shoulders. He pushed out, not only with his strength, but with his energy as well. The two knocked back like an invisible force had hit them, sending them out under where the mantis stood and shielded them from the danger. That done, the shadows from above darkened. His eyes on all of them for a moment....before the crash.
Seeing someone coming over to them Shadow’s head shot up. “Ashes..” she breathed out. He looked absolutely horrible but hopefully he could do something. To her utter shock he pulled the gigantic beast off of them and Scar pulled them out. Her head turned when she heard Volkov speak. A laugh escaped her and she laughed again at Ashes comment.
Then a bright light came causing her to grit her teeth. Her eyes somehow made their way to Cias right as he sent the three of them the last of his strenght. A scream escaped her lips, she was screaming his name. She fell silent and wouldn’t look away from the man that saved them, until Volkov grabbed her knee and snapped it back into place. A shout escaped her and she glared at the medic. At her comment she couldn’t help but grin at her. “I’ll take it.” She croaked out, than grabbed the vial and thanked her.
She was just placing the vial in the small pouch on her swords sheath when she spotted a familiar form. “Vex?” Shadow quickly shot to her feet, grimacing slightly at the pain in her knee. She stood still and silent, she really couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Vex was attacking Sycom?
“Volkov stop!” She yelled out as she shot at her best friend. Shadow was watching everything and everyone trying to figure out the best course of action. Should she try to talk to her friend? But then there was Remy, all she wanted to do was run her sword through his gut.
Her course of action was answered for her though as the building next to Vex and Sycom started to collapse. She darted forward, calling out to them. Shadow knew she was never going to make it in time.
Then Discord stepped forward.
He sent the two of them flying out of the way with a small smile and looked out at all of them. “No! No! No! No! No!” She screamed over and over again. She could have made it, could have made it if she hadn’t have injured her knee. But she was too slow. The building came crashing down. “Discord!” She skid to a stop looking around frantically. “Discord?!”
Keeping Sycom close to her with a vice like grip she started to lay into him again a voice echoed in the back of her mind. It was Remy, the words he kept repeating to her from before about how it was Sycom that caused her to lose everything. A scream of rage came from her as she raised the knife to stab him again. To her displeasure the others weren’t going to be good mutts and just sit back quietly.
A shot from a Purium blaster landed near her feet, the weapon belonged to Sai. More gunshots rang out this time from Volkov, one knocking the bloody blade from her hand and another grazing her cheek. Despite this it didn’t seem to faze her. The woman barely heard the words spoken by the Russian. “Kill Me? Do you think that is even a possibility?”
The other woman’s words made sense, but then again they were different. They hadn’t been played by this man from the very beginning. “You have no clue...” Lies and more lies. She was sick of it all.
Vex blinked at the shift in Sycom’s expression and actions. It wasn’t until the man whom she held ripped from her grasp that she was aware that he had any strength to actually fight back. The words exchanged between her and the Russian seemed to go unnoticed by him.
It seemed that the others not sitting by like good boys and girls irritated the man. It was rare to see him react in such a way. To see him knock away a bullet caused her to take a few steps back. Eyes on him she watched as he stalked away, yelling at the others. A small smirk played on her lips. He was lecturing them on not harming her how cute. Vex couldn’t understand why he was being so protective, the fog in her mind making it hard to process much other than the feelings of rage and pure hatred.
Briefly her gaze moved from Sycom, Volkov and the others to the mantis. It was mimicking the male’s movements. How odd. Her attention was once more brought back to her husband as he called her by her true name. She seemed to hesitate when she drew out more blades. He was going to willing let her take his life? Now he was proclaiming his love to her? No, no, it’s a lie. Just like everything else.
Another voice rang in her mind. Her conscious telling her that he was sincere. That he meant what he was telling her. It was annoying and did prevent the hateful words that she spit out next. “You’re a fool. You rather die than to truly face what you did to me.” Her hand raised ready to throw the blade she held tightly to. “Isn’t it too late to not hurt me or even worry about hurting me?”
The woman’s head was starting to ache as the memory of the conversation she had with Flynn and Quincy wormed their way into the back of her mind. “Shut up,” she screamed, blade falling from her hand. Her hands moved to hold her head. “He was the one behind the plot to have those four boys kidnap me, to make me snap and become a criminal.”
At this point she was arguing with herself. “Isn’t that right? After all Remy knew about what really happened back then. He told me about everything.” Lavender eyes landed on Sycom, the anger and rage she felt still there, but now mixed with confusion.
While all of this was going on the nearby building cracked and groaned. Something it seemed that both of them had failed to notice before now. Before she even had time to react to the debris that began to rain down on them someone grabbed her arm. It was Discord. When had he gotten so close? “Let go,” she hissed as he shoved her into Sycom’s arms until the male had no choice, but to hold her.
At first she fought to get free, but the boy made it impossible by knocking them out of the way of the collapsing building using his strength and energy to do so. There was an audible crack as she landed hard on her side while still in Sycom’s arms, one which sent pain radiating through her side and chest, followed by an almost deafening scream. It seemed that the ribs in which hadn’t been completely healed from her fight with Vlad not even 24 hours before all of this had broken.
Taking a sharp breath she stared at Discord. Why? Why had he saved them? Didn’t he realize she was to kill them all once she was done with Sycom? And if she didn’t the elite forces would? Lavender eyes watched as the building seemed to crash down on top of the boy in slow motion. Ignoring the pain within her chest she reached out her hand. At the moment she couldn’t fathom why she made such a gesture or why a single tear seemed to run down her cheek. His demise would only mean there was one less person that the elite forces and she would have to worry about taking out.
Her breathes were short and sharp as Vex forced herself to pull away from the man holding her. She needed to move, regain her composure and complete her mission. At the very least ease the stabbing pain and burning in her side.
It was hard to ignore the pain for long. God did it bring back memories, ones that had been distorted from the truth. Along with the voice of Flynn and Quincy telling her how Sycom kept the government from killing her. She shook her head in an attempt to get them to go away.
He’s my enemy. Wait…something, something isn’t right. How did Remy know what really happened when I never told anyone? None knew except for me and the four that I killed.
At this moment she probably looked pathetic, being tormented by both the lies and the truth, by her love and hatred for Sycom. It was hard to tell what was real and what wasn’t any more. Everything seemed to blur together. Maybe if she just let it all come to an end they could be at peace? If she killed him then herself there would be no more confusion? After all she would be disposed of once she was no longer useful to the government no matter what they had promised right?
So many things were going through the woman’s head that it felt like it was spinning. A small cry came from her before she coughed up blood. In a poor attempt to recompose herself she glanced at the redhead beside her. Pained lavender eyes searched his in hopes of finding some kind of truth. The woman had no clue what was real and what was a lie anymore. Everything Vex thought she knew and what she felt were threatening to rip her apart. “Why,” was all she whispered, leaving him to figure out what she meant.
She really was going to kill him, wasn't she? He found it ironic that he could have been the one to take her life but instead he gave her life. He turned her into a tool of the SFA rather than corpse in the earth. Was it wrong of him to selfishly want her to live? To be by his side? Even as a criminal, he didn't care.
Sycom reached his hands up, wanting to comfort her but those blades came out again. She was spewing nonsense, which made Sycom's head hurt. Speaking of hurting, why was it hurting? It was ungodly painful. Everything was so loud. He could hear the wind, the shouting voice of Ashes, and even the snarling laugh of Remy. Why, he could even hear breathing. Why could he hear off this? Was it the mantis? Could he hear what the mantis heard?
Before he could question anything else, a familiar face shoved Vex into his arms. Perplexed, confused, and actually pleased, Sycom smiled at the boy. Was he trying to reunite a torn family? Was this Discord's naive nature playing director? It was too cute. It was so selfless. He reached his hand out to touch the boy but he couldn't for he was flying backwards.
When it finally sunk in, Sycom's mind broke. The pain that once plagued him vanished. Everything was gone. His mind was numb. His body was numb. Everything. Everything was numb.
"He..." his eyes were wide like two open doors. Face flushed of all color, his hand reached out toward the debris of the fragmented building. The collapse. Why hadn't he seen it. Why didn't he sense it. Why didn't he know Discord's true reasoning. Was he so plagued by love that he thought Kanra would save his marriage? He had always looked to Discord like he was a son, just like he saw Hime as a sister. Was it wrong to love criminals and agents to that degree?
"KANRA!" his voice pierced the air and it was amplified by the retching scream of the mantis who too felt his pain and misery. Large tears rolled down his face. Even though he was broken, beaten, and unable to feel anything, he would force himself forward. He would tug at the grass if he needed to. He needed to get to Discord. He had to try. He had to save the boy who he so desperately wanted to pull from the SFA and call his own. He needed to rescue him. He needed to find him. He needed him.
He, Sycom, needed him, Kanra. Kanra was the light in the darkness. Kanra was the hope that inspired strength and love. Kanra was the voice of innocence and purity. He was the reason that Sycom fought to free the criminals. He was the reason Sycom wanted to make the criminals have a better life. Sure, Vex was up there, but she was a grown woman. Kanra. Kanra was just a boy. An innocent boy whose life was ruined by poor parenting and malice monsters.
"Reino," his words were slurred together due to the excessive water that ran from his face. "Where are you." Although Reino and Kanra were relatively new friends, Sycom feared what would become of Reino if he knew what happened to Kanra. The last time someone that important to Reino died Reino....
A blade shifted between his shoulders. Gasping for air, his teal eyes twirled up to meet the psychotic face of Remy. "Ello, mate. You looking to join your beloved pawn in hell?"
TL;DR: Sycom's a derp and thought that Discord was being cute when he shoved he and Vex together. He had no idea the kid was sacrificing himself to save them. Now he's numb on the ground screaming out for the boy.
Oh, and Remy is stabbing a blade in his back. Sycom isn't have a good day. He probably should have just stayed in bed....
Her search for truth within the redhead’s teal eyes was met with pain and sadness. Not because of her own actions, but because of Discord and his selflessness. She couldn’t understand why the boy had saved her instead of just Sycom. Vex closed her eyes, trying to block out the pain momentarily and the tears. The tears that came not because of the stabbing pain in her side, but for Discord, who may now be gone.
The male who laid only a couple feet away from her cried out to Discord. It seemed that the fog within her mind was starting to clear a bit. She found herself questioning everything that just happened. Was she right or was she wrong? Something didn’t feel right about it all. “That’s right,” a voice echoed within the depths of her mind, “don’t let them trick or use you anymore.”
A gasp for air and a cheeky familiar voice caused Vex to look over at Sycom again. Remy he was there, stabbing the older man in the back. Something inside of her broke at the sight before her. The world around them seemed to blur as the scene changed.
“You can’t do this. Please save her,” an all too familiar voice cried out. More words were exchanged, but she was too weak to catch what all was being said. Everything was dark, so dark and her body was heavy most of it numb other than the stabbing pain she felt every time she took a breath. It was hard to tell how much time passed by while she was in that darkness. Nearby another voice spoke it was also familiar, but came from a person she hated. “He’s such a fool wanting to save that girl. Really she’s more of a danger than an asset. Having a criminal who can manipulate time and space and they can’t be controlled easily is just insane. If I didn’t think he’d go through with it I’d just dispose of the bitch right now.” They were talking about her. Was this from six years ago when she almost died? She never recalled any of this before so why now?
The scene shifted to one that was more recent to the time she spent caring for Sycom in his room because the medical staff seemed like they couldn’t be bothered to do it. She had been so worried and then later when he proposed. His eyes, those beautiful teal eyes of his, they said it all when he looked into her pale lavender ones. That’s right she knew he meant what he said. Others were behind the things that happened. That was the truth right? She was still unsure, but she was going to have to play as though nothing has changed in her thinking, not until she knew.
She growled, glaring at the boy. How dare he interfere. How dare he harm Sycom. Finding the strength she needed she rose to her knees. The silver haired woman willed her body to move though it wanted to refuse.
Without any thought she lunged forward taking hold of the knife, pulling it from her husband’s back before basically tackling Remy. Sycom’s mine. No one else is allowed to touch him,” her tone was deadly as she glared down at the boy beneath her holding the knife to his throat. “You should go play with the others while I finish here.”
Remy was foolish for getting so close to her. All she needed was to get her pocket watch back then she could change everything. She would find out the truth. While holding him down even if it was only momentarily the woman searched for her precious watch. Her movements were as though she retrieving more blades from her person as felt near his pockets and other places the watch could be. This had to be done quickly before he caught on to her.
Taking a moment she glanced over to see how her beloved was fairing. There was sadness within those pale lavender orbs that watched him.‘I’m sorry,’ she mouthed before returning her attention to Remy. Vex wouldn’t expect him to believe her words as she couldn’t even trust herself right now.
The commotion caused him to pause, the scene unfolding before them. The building let way, just as he had expected. Unfortunately, the two under it were still there as it did. He took a step forward, but knew from a quick estimate that he and most of the others were to far away to do much good at the moment at all . Because of this, the falling bits of the building in question were going to crush them. He clenched his jaw a bit, internally darkening for a moment, when movement came again. One of the others, the youngest within the criminals was moving. Okami watched him, guessing the plan before the others might have.
He frowned, reckless, but it was indeed the only shot it seemed. Sycom and the woman were pushed out of the way, moments before the building came crashing down. He should have felt something, sadness, pain…something. But he felt nothing. It was not because he was heartless, no, Okami was trained for situations just such as this. He was trained to flip off his emotions, to not feel anything for the soul purpose of being able to continue on and fight through those emotions. He frowned once more, turning instead to move towards the higher up. He caught Remy moving, glaring slightly as he did. He could not risk firing at the moment as the other attacked, it was risky with that idiot in the way. However, moments later, the female was pushing the male away and attacking him.
He ignored them. If she wished to make a move on him, let her. He cared little. His mission still stood, protect the head. Moving to his side, he kneeled. His eyes moved to the blade, already running through its location and potential of hitting anything vital. He needed to remain still, he needed medical attention like all of them. He had heard his words, the mention of the man he knew well caused him to frown. Had something happened? He shook his head, pulling out a small needle from one of the few pouches with him. It would ease the pain, and make things a bit easier. Okami had a vast knowledge, including medical. Unfortunately, getting the other to cooperate would be a pain in the ass.
Sai's pale eyes widened as the mantis mimicked Sycom's movements. The agent lowered his gun slowly, not quite sure what to think anymore. What ... the hell was going on? A confused expression found its place on his features, and Sai merely stood in silence. His head ached again. While adrenaline had chased off the influence of alcohol, it certainly hadn't rid his system of the substance itself.
The silver-haired agent stared in silence, trying to process the battle and the shifting of tides and alliances. Was there even any sense to all this?
It was strange to hear Ashes' true name - Skywalker. Sai's attention snapped to where Ashes stood with Volkov, and he slowly felt the lavender aura about him warm. There were so many elites. The people surrounding Remy were important - very important. Sai's pale gaze flickered over each of them, taking in their auras and noting that they were about to fight a very serious, very important battle. This was no longer a game of "kill the monster and save the world." This was another game. This one was riddled with subterfuge and deception. They were already losing.
-
As Sai stood thinking, Vlad turned his attention fully to Artemis. Discord moved away, though Vlad said nothing to him.
"Come,"
he repeated the word firmly when Artemis didn't move quickly enough. He grasped the woman's wrist, pulling her with him. Vlad's teal eyes were locked on Remy and the others. There were plenty of men to kill.
There was a flux in power, however, that drew Vlad's gaze. Discord. Something was ... wrong? The youth was focused on Remy. Vlad frowned, but just as his attention moved back to Artemis he heard the sound of crumbling stone. Vlad looked back just in time to witness Discord's sacrifice. Artemis was the only figure to notice a sudden drop in temperature. It was more like the immediate surroundings were frosted, and Vlad himself fell still.
Staring at the fallen building, the criminal wasn't ... sure what to feel. The boy meant nothing to Vlad, didn't he? Yet, as teal eyes continued to survey the unmoving rubble, Vlad began to question the importance of the one criminal who'd always been the one to counter him. Discord wasn't a friend, but ... he wasn't an enemy. What was he? Did that even matter now?
Vlad's cold expression didn't shift from its usual emotionless mask, and he watched Shadow look around for Discord. His rage returned with a burning edge - he was restless, ready for another battle. He'd just witnessed the loss of ... well, a team member. Multiple team members. Others had been lost with the bomb. Then ... this. His grip on Artemis' wrist tightened painfully, but he pulled her behind him as they neared the others. Strangely, he kept himself between the elites and his ally.
-
Sai heard the building tumble, and he swiftly shifted his gaze in that direction. He couldn't see through the rubble, which meant he couldn't read Discord's aura. Was the boy alive? Not likely. The frantic changes in emotion were altering everyone's auras, filling them with flashes of light and spark. It was so chaotic.
The agent cringed at the sounds of Vex and Sycom's pain. Without a second though, he lifted a thin blade and fingered it lightly. Sai moved closer to his allies - Ashes and Volkov - looking partially lost. He'd fight when needed.
((Note: Sai's having a partial numb breakdown moment. Poor guy just isn't built for the field.))
As chaos ensued, the darkness thickened. No matter what the team tried, they seemed to get pushed back. There was no hope. The light was gone. This was their final battle. Their last mark as man before joining the heavens above. It was almost too surreal to fathom. Each so young. Each without heirs. It almost didn't seem fair. Why did the good always die young?
With bodies breaking, minds caving in, and defeat on the horizon, Sycom sounded the alarm. It was time to retreat and save those he could. Few would make it. Hell, he would be lucky is one or two could escape alive. Any who couldn't flee in time would surely be captured, tortured, and destroyed. And like any captain, Sycom would go down with his ship.
Ashes, probably the first to hear the call to retreat, stood his ground. He was a soldier. He couldn't abandon his friends. Although he didn't know any of them that long, he felt closer to them than he did to most people. These people were his life now. They were family.
"Volkov, Shadow, Artemis, Vex, pull out. Once they're in the clear, Sai and Vlad, you follow." His face turned, almost poster-perfect, toward Sycom. Reaching out a hand, he pulled the redhead from the mud. His face, marred with the ferocity of this battle, gazed hard into the horror before him. "Let's make these bastards pay and buy our friends time."
Sycom, with a firm nod, accepted the hand and shifted up. He knew Vex would resist leaving, but he put a stop to that. "Vex, you need to take them to your friends. You know the ones I speak of. Help the others get there. I can't lead them. You can." A heavy hand fell on her shoulders. Eyes teary and a grimace on his face, he pulled his lovely wife in for a quick embrace. "Live to fight another day," he whispered before kissing her while bullets sprayed from the enemies' guns. Much to his luck, the mantis was still alive, and kicking, and easily shielded the kissing couple from hell's rain.
"Go," he whispered before pushing her hair behind her ears. "Help them. Please," he pleaded before picking up his electric baton. "We'll join you as soon as we stop these guys and get Kanra."
GM Note: For those of you who would like to kill off your characters and swap them out for another, now is your chance to do so. Everyone else should retreat. Or attempt to. Definitely attempt. You won't make it far because Remy will stop you. But, you know, it's the thought that counts?
AFTER these next posts, we'll actually have our escape. Kiyo, feel free to do your thing. Allison, if you wanted to use Tehra instead of Artemis, you can kill off Artemis during this scene. Tehra can be picked up at the next location. Er, I think that covers everyone.
Remy laughed at Vex as she threatened him. This enraged her further. Her mind was still spinning with everything, but the one thing she had determined to be the truth was that Remy was the one behind things. He was her true enemy. Before she knew it the two of them were in a power struggle. The boy was in far better shape than she, but still the woman willed her battered and broken body to move and fight back. As the two fought the woman blocked out what was going on around them.
It was a miracle that the criminal was able to defend herself and keep on the offense against the boy. While their battled intensified somehow Vex was able to get the upper hand. She slashed at him with the bloody knife in her hand, slicing Remy across the chest. The boy hissed out in pain before punching her broken ribs. This caused her to wince, gasping for air. Damn did it hurt, the pain radiating through her midsection.
Remy managed to put a little distance between them as she recovered. It wouldn’t be enough though. Once she had caught her breath the woman threw a couple of knives at him, slowing him further. Charging forward Vex rammed the boy, both of them went tumbling and rolling through the mud. Skidding to a stop the woman moved quickly for the shape she was in. Again she had their enemy were she wanted him. Pinning him to the ground with one hand on his throat the criminal plunged the knife in her other hand into his midsection, giving it a twist. A deafening cry came from Remy before he fell silent. It was finally over. Breathing raggedly she let go of the knife and the boy’s throat before falling over onto her side. That was when the alarm sounded, bringing her back to what was going on around her. Everyone was fighting for their lives.
Soon Ashes was shouting orders for them to pull out. Grudgingly the silver haired woman forced herself back to her feet. Making her way over to Ashes and Sycom she stumbled a bit. “I’m not….” Her words were quickly cut off by the red head. Her gaze lowered as he spoke. How could he trust her, how could they trust her? When she felt his hands on her shoulders she looked at him with saddened lavender eyes. “I can’t lead them. Why would they follow me after this?” As he pulled her to him it was clear Sycom wasn’t going to listen to her protests. The tears she had been fighting streamed down her cheeks when her husband whispered to her before kissing her. Her arms tightened around him, wishing she didn’t have to let go.
After a moment Vex pulled back a bit to look at him. With a grim smile she gave him a nod. Her loving husband urged her to do what he wanted, what was right. She bit her lower lip before taking a step back. “Don’t worry I’ll make sure they get there safely.” Vex gave her husband one quick last kiss while pressing one of her last knives into his empty hand. “If you die without me I will never forgive you. So return to my side quickly,” she whispered before pulling away from him.
Turning from Sycom a few more tears slide down her cheeks. She hadn’t told him that her pocket watch was in the enemy’s hands. If she had it then they would all have a good chance at escaping, but as it stood they didn’t. Plus it was possible that the silver haired woman wouldn’t even make it long enough to get the others to her friends. If whoever held her watch broke it then that was it for her. She gave a quick glance to Ashes. “Please take care of my husband since he won’t allow me to stay by his side,” the words were whispered as she passed by the male.
Taking a breath Vex moved to where most of the others were. “Alright everyone we have our orders we are to pull out. Watch each other’s backs. I’ll be leading you whether you like it or not. We’re going to a safe house were we can get treatment and regroup. I know the way. So let’s get moving.” It was clear that she was taking the task given to her seriously. Still she had her doubts that this would work, but the woman would do her best for her husband’s sake. As she moved in the direction of their destination she glanced at the others. It was up to them if they chose to follow her or not.
For once, Vlad was obedient. As he neared the others his teal-glowing eyes locked on Ashes as the male spoke. Instead of fighting the orders he was given, he merely nodded. He detested authority figures and the agency ... but he was a creature of survival. Their chances were very limited. Any chance at survival was worth taking.
He'd hold the back line until the others were in the clear. He flashed his fangs briefly before turning his attention to doing what his original purpose had been when he was accepted into the team: to take all incoming blows as the others retreated.
As mentioned in his profile, Vlad could take blows that would kill others. His Purium pulsed threateningly, and the Breaker let his aggressive nature turn to something ... more defensive. He snarled and kept the nearest team members from harm as everyone began to pull back. Perhaps they would survive. Perhaps.
He pulled Artemis with him, keeping her in front of him as he shielded her from any stray bullets or strikes. As they retreated, his glowing eyes flickered to the collapsed building where Berserker had fallen. A strange flicker of regret moved through him as they left the battlefield without the other criminal. It would have been comforting to at least have proof of his death - some token of the boy's last fight.
Vlad snagged someone's arm and pulled them to their feet. With a snort of disdain, he pushed his team members toward their destination. "Move or die," he hissed to Sai in passing. The agent was already moving, somehow navigating the field flawlessly. He remained with Vlad, covering their companions as they retreated. This was ... chaotic, to say the least.
"Do we have everyone?"
Sai's voice flickered through their communicators, and the silver-haired youth "scanned" the battlefield with his covered gaze. From what he could tell, all colored auras were safely on their way to their destination.
"Kanra" a woman's voice called to him, "you're going to be late." He was standing in a room, one he had not seen for so long. It was simple, a bed, dresser, desk and other typical things well kept and taken care of. It was from that home, that place he had vowed never to go back to. The door opened, a beautiful woman stepped in. Hair similar to Kanra's, so pale it nearly looked white. Her soft eyes held kindness, but also tried to hide something darker within. Those eyes, he knew them all to well. Pain and sadness were hidden within them, Kanra knew it himself. She wiped her hands on a cloth, moving over to him.
"Are you alright?" she gently brushed a bit of hair from his face. He stood there, not moving for a moment. A man appeared within the door, his eyes colder and darker, his hair black like the night. He regarded Kanra with a frown, "get going...now." His voice demanding, cold in nature. It sent a slight chill through his body, that voice, he had not heard it in so long. The woman flinched lightly, but hid it with a smile to Kanra, "I'll see you out honey." She placed a hand on his shoulder, leading him out of the room. This place, these people....his parents. Led out of the home, he walked with her out to the front of the house. She paused near him, glancing back at the home, before looking at him.
This, he remembered, this was the morning....the morning of that day, the day when everything had turned for the worse. Her eyes on him, he could have told the words that were coming before they did. Those words inside of his mind, he had often replayed over and over within his mind. She was hugging him, shaking a bit, trying to keep the tears away. This day, was the day Kanra's life ended, and that hell began. Her features began to melt away, as did the world around him. Replaced by darkness, replaced by air so cold, Kanra could see his breath. An enclosed space he knew to well, his fingertips hitting the hard surface that made his panic rise. No, not here, not again. This place, the place that had been responsible for all of it, this place...because of him.
The lid was thrown open, the man from before standing there, with a bottle in his hand. Voices were heard from somewhere other than where they were. The dark old cellar where it had all happened. He was yelling, words that were also etched within his mind. He wanted to know where she was, where she had gone to. Reliving this, reliving key portions of what had happened that day, brought back all to familiar thoughts and feelings. His mother, his father, blood....a lot of blood. Looking into a mirror, the face that looked back at him was his own. Those eyes, cold and hardened then in the darkness, as the deed was carried out. He had felt nothing, nothing but anger and hatred in that moment.
In that moment, for that night, the full fledged Berserker had been born. Looking down at his feet, the face that looked back at him, damaged barley to recognition, would never hurt him again. Lights, many of them, a cold slab of a table under him. Men over him in white suits, those faces he knew as the doctors who had helped to evolve things within him. The ones who sought to use his pain, his suffering and the darkness within himself for their own gain. They had used him, trained him and forced him for their own gain, seeing it fit because of what he had done. They had only succeeded in helping to deepen the darkness within him. The feelings that continued to swirl around him and surface within him because of these flashes of memories gathered together.
The next scene was once more in darkness. Cold around him once more, his body pressed into a small place due to hard surfaces. His heart immediately skipped, panic rose inside of him. His body moved, and his muscles cried out in pain. Pain that was to real to be a dream. His mind raced, trying to gather its surroundings, where he was. The enclosed space, the memories and more were not helping him at all. Pain forming within his body, as his senses came back to him. The adrenaline beginning to circulate through him pushing him more. Kanra a voice within his head erupted, making him freeze. it was Berserker... now he remembered. They had been in the middle of a fight, the others in danger and pain, exhausted as they tried to follow the orders given to them.
He had shown up...that bastard, he had shown up to harm them all. Kanra had placed himself in danger, to protect and save Sycom. Why the hell did you do that? Berserker said. Kanra closed his eyes, I was not going to let someone die, I had to... Berserker did not seem happy at all, they were buried, buried alive. The others, Kanra did not know if they were alive or dead. If they were out there, with him, trapped and in danger. His hands moved, pressing against the solid rock keeping him within this hold. The air was thin, it would not be long till it ran out. It would not be long till he really was dead. His mother, his father, the others. He could not protect or save anyone. He clenched his hands against the surface, a slight sting coming to the side of his face.
He had been scratched, the wound coming into contact with...tears? Kanra realized he was crying. His heart racing, he could all but hear the sound within his ears. No, he couldn't give up, he couldn't stay here. He was not going to let it end this way. Like hell it will Berserker said within his head, we have not fought through hell to be taken out by a couple of rocks. Kanra pushed against the one above him, it wouldn't budge. He wasn't strong enough, not then, not now. His jaw clenched, so hard that he could taste blood within his mouth. His head pounding, his thoughts on one thing, the others. He was not strong enough, but someone else was. Someone had always been stronger than he, able to do what he could not. He closed his eyes tightly, please....help them.
Berserker fell silent a bit, but Kanra knew he could hear him all to well. He was pushed far to close to his limit, Berserker aware that pushing more could cause trouble. I don't care! Kanra's hands moved to his head, clenching within his hair. He would not let this happen, he would not let them end up like her. The stone on his ring began to glow, a familiar blood red color pooling out from the center, signalling the shift. I don't care....do whatever it takes....destroy it all if you have to! Protect them! The intensity of the red color brightened, until a large crack sounded. Kanra's eyes snapped open, glowing a pale yellow almost white in the darkness. The air around him began to heat up, energy building within his body.
His hands pressed against the rocks above him, "get the hell off of me!" a red flash of light formed from his hand, the energy errupting from him, travelling through the rocks above him. On the outside, the ground would have began shaking a bit. The pile of rubble would begin shifting, before cracking. Slight rays of the red energy would escape through cracks, before overcomming the rocks. A pilar of it shooting off into the sky above. From the shadow of the hole, as the red light began to fade, a shadow rose. Familiar icy pale yellow eyes falling upon the disasterous seen outside. The air around him seeming to warp a bit from the energy coming off from him. He neither moved nor spoke, eyes moving over to where Remy's body laid for the moment, then to the others, before falling upon Sycom.
The look within them of pure darkness, coldness that would send a chill through anyone. The look of a pure, untamed, and ruthless killer. For a moment, it looked as if he would tear something, or someone apart, but the energy quickly wore out. However strong, his body was running on fumes, pushing limits. Any more would destroy his physical being. His eyes fluttered, before closing. His body giving out, fell forward from the rocks. Okami who had been nearby, watching to make sure the others were able to get out without trouble, moved forward upon instinct. A fall like that would have damaged the boy more, and from the looks of it, Sycom had a soft spot for the boy.
He made it to the boy, catching him in time, dropping to a knee to absorb the impact of the weight due to the fall. The boy was still, his body limp. Using a hand, it was clear the boy was barley breathing, his heart beat low. He needed medical attention now, or he might not last much longer. That scene, the boy able to overcome that... Okami glanced up at the rocks for a moment, the other must have had one hell of a will and fight to survive within him.
Volkov felt arms wrap around her frame, and allowed those strong arms to envelope her. Leaning against Ashes's body, the Russian scientist took into account all of the things that were happening. This was all too much. Scar moved to her side, as she had been ignoring her condition. Blood was oozing from every possible spot in her armor, and it was not pleasant. Being who she was, she was loosing all strength, mostly because she hadn't recovered from her surgery, and then had been both attacked by Sycom and then by the monsters. And now this. Shit just never stopped. Everything was becoming fuzzy in her vision around the edges, and she swore this was like history repeating itself again.
She was younger then, brash, and more stubborn, if that was possible. The young woman had moved up in ranks swiftly, and been made a weapons specialist... Little did she know that she would stumble upon the other's in her core, selling weapons under the table to enemies. It caused her to try and stop them, but it got her nearly killed. The seven other men had abducted her in the middle of the night, when they were supposed to take watch. Gagged and beaten she had been dragged out into the desert. There she had been beaten senseless. They left her for dead, but when she awoke, it was like the angel of vengeance. With all the burning hatred of a hundred men she burned down the entire base, and shot all those men who hurt her. With papers and a thumb drive proving they were dealing in the black market, she was made a general.
Blinking away the memories, the woman watched as Ashes got defensive. Reaching out to stop his lunge at the male who spoke to them, she frowned. She knew these men. She had met all of them once. They had been the ones to fund her weapons developments and cancer cure. It had saved the Vice Presidents life, who had gotten lung cancer from smoking for years. Now here he was, going to kill everyone she held dear.
Then things crumbled, Kanra gave his life for Sycom, who then got stabbed in the back by Remy. Remy had healed, and now Vex was to lead them away. Hearing the orders, she shook her head and met eyes with Ashes. "I wont leave you." she said stubbornly, but even as she said it, her knees gave a bit, making her body fall lightly against his. "I can stay and fight." she breathed, looking up into his stubborn eye. Seeing those around her moving to go, she shook her head. "No... You've given enough for everyone... For once do this for yourself." she pleaded softly, knowing how selfless he was. How giving he truly was. He had given everyone anything they wanted... Over his own needs.
But Vlad's hand reached out and grabbed her, pulling her from Ashes's arms. She let out a soft gasp but her feet moved willingly. Everything you ever loved... Will always be taken from you... Those words from the criminal who killed her family rang in her ears. Blinking away tears, she grabbed onto Scar and threw her leg over his back. Clutching close to the only true friend she had left, she gave a breathy order to move out. The tiger took off, keeping close behind Vex.
But she hadn't left Ashes' empty handed. In his breast pocket she left him two things. A god pill, new and improved, and a healing pill for Sycom. The god pill was white, the healing pill was green. He would know which was which. She wouldn't leave him without giving him the best odds she could offer. It was all she could do, but she prayed it would help him. Looking ahead, she knew that they may not get far, not with Remy. He was a demon in human flesh, and she could tell they wouldn't just be allowed to get away.
A small sense of relief came over the woman when she seen that the others seemed to be following her. It was a surprise truthfully she had expected them to be more stubborn or refuse to follow. For all they knew she would lead them to their deaths, after all only a short while earlier she had went almost all out on her own husband intending to kill him. Her mind was still a jumbled mess, but the one thing Vex was certain of was they had to get away now.
She was pulled from her thoughts as she neared Shadow. The woman was been digging at the rubble in an attempt to find Discord. Lightly she placed her hand on her friend's shoulder. Just as she was about to speak there was a loud rumble from the ruins of the collapsed building. Soon it was followed by the flying debris as Discord emerged from the rubble. The boy had survived and looked as though he was ready to kill whoever got in his way. Soon he Discord was collapsing and Okami being the one to catch him.
Vex sled her arm around Shadow’s and pulled her to her feet. “See, he’s ok. They’ll take care of him, but we need to go now. If we don’t then everything that we’ve done, everything that Discord did will have been for nothing.” Her words were soft, yet stern the look within her eyes dark and threatening. She gave her friend no room to protest as she pulled her along.
Looking back she gave the Russian woman a nod. Her eyes moved back to Ashes and Sycom before they landed on where Remy laid. In the back of her mind she wondered if she had truly killed that demon. He had caused all this and deserved far worse than what she had given him. Soon her gaze moved forward there was a lot of ground to cover before they would reach the secret tunnel that would lead them to safety. “We need to pick up the pace if we can,” Vex called over her shoulder. Hopefully help would be waiting on them inside of the tunnel.
----------------------
All was ready. Darius gave his final orders to those who were part of the extraction mission before turning to Helena and Leon. The pair stood side by side smiling at him. This was the first step to changing this country for the better. The man smiled back at them. Leon you are to lead a team of three to meet with our guests after they enter the Boston tunnel. Be careful. Helena I forbid you from going. You are to stay here where it’s safe. You are dismissed.”
Leon gave a bow before exiting the room, leaving the siblings alone. He knew well that his fiancé would not stay quiet about this.
Helena glared at her brother. “Why must I stay here? They will probably need medical treatment right away. I can help with that.” She stepped closer to Darius and raised her hand to smack him before letting her arm fall to her side. The anger that had flared within her eyes shifted to disappointment. “I’m not a child anymore, you don’t need to try to protect me. We are all in this together, so I’m going to go with Leon. You can’t stop me Dar.” She gave her brother a reassuring smile before hugging him tight. Releasing him she didn’t wait for him to say another word, the woman joined Leon who was waiting in the hallway.
((Tis short but I finally got a response!!))
Frantic Shadow fell to her knees in the rubble and started moving rocks. “Discord? Discord!” She kept up the search not caring about anything else going on around her.
Tears streamed down her face as she moved rock after rock, shouting Discords name over and over again. He was just a boy still, the best out of all of them. Out of everyone he deserved to die the least, so she kept searching and would continue until she either found him or was stopped.
When Vex placed her hand on her shoulder Shadow stiffened. She had heard the commands, but had chosen to ignore them. Just as she was about to tell her friend she wasn’t leaving the ground started to rumble beneath them. Discord emerged from the rubble and Shadow let out a sob.
She let Vex pull her to her feet, her body beyond exhaustion. Hearing her words Shadow nodded and leaned on Vex. In the back of her mind she thought about taking the adrenalin but decided to save it until she really needed it.
In silence Shadow followed after everyone. She knew Sycom and Ashes didn’t stand much chance against all of them and where was Reino? Was Discord going to live? Her eyes moved to look at Okami and the boy. She couldn’t help but admire Okami, he seemed to always be in the right place to save someone.
