Has anyone else been following the news on the FBI versus Apple debate?

Basically, Apple is refusing to help the FBI break into iPhones, saying that it defeats the purpose of making them so secure in the first place.

I had not heard about that. It's kind of weird that they would refuse to assist the FBI though, especially if there is a warrant.

It's not about one case, as far as I know Poet, I think the FBI is like "let us into your phones always" and apple is like "um. have you heard of privacy?"

Oh... always? Well that's kind of illegal last I checked. Unless they managed to sneak in some weird law without us noticing again.

They can do anything they want if they say the password, as far as I know.
The password is "national security"

That's pretty true... but really... we've become a horribly paranoid world and it's sad, so paranoid that the word "national security" is seemingly followed without hesitation.

I know. It's awful. Which is why I think people are so glad that Apple is standing up like this. I mean, they are by no means a perfect corporation (but really, there's no such thing), and they've done their fair share of crappy stuff in the name of profit, but it's nice to know that they're willing to draw a line? It probably wouldn't even have made the news if they'd caved and decided to hand over the info. But because they're standing up for this it's drawing attention and criticism to the mindset we've got going on.
Though, there's not much attention on this right now, what with the elections. I'm not even in the states and I feel like all the news I get is about the primaries.

I would thought the agency that would brag about 'National Security' is the Ministry of Defense, National Security Agency and CIA. XD not FBI.

Oh I'm sure it would have made news either way. Apple is a sellout or Apple wont be a sellout. Just a few different words.

If they don't tell them how so they can fix it that would be terrible... considering security issues are a major concern for a lot of people, and that there is a security issue being made public it's damaging to their reputation a bit.

Apple is currently trying to figure out how the FBI did it. I sure hope Apple figures it out before someone else who might have malicious intent does

Agreed, though I'm sure someone figured it out a while ago. There is clearly a flaw and phones do get hacked from time to time. A method exists somewhere.

Nothing is un-hackable.
I am not sure which side I am on. I do treasure privacy, but I also really like crime bust too. :/ If the authority use their special 'national security' properly, I would choose my 'safety' over my 'privacy'.

I was using a second hand iPhone 4s for a little over a year now... and it just somehow crashed last Sunday. -__-;;
It is unable to recognize the charging cable. Not being able to charge for 4 days, yet, it is still hanging on to its last drop of battery, refusing to let me reset it. I can't reset it by the easiest way of holding the home button long and all other ways that can be search in Google.
