Here's your pick for today, Cardinal Biggles:!

It's a lovely avatar on its own, a pretty maiden and a gentle unicorn in a deep, possibly magical forest. But did you know Biggles was cosplaying? Or, at least, making a clever reference to medieval depictions of unicorns!

Depictions like the above (thanks, Long, for finding that xD ) were very common. A beautiful virgin, a tame unicorn, and a mirror. It was said to be the way to capture a unicorn: draw the unicorn in by the maiden's beauty and innocence, distract it with its own reflection in the mirror, and then, y'know, mob it. And soon a king had a unicorn horn to drink from to neutralize any poison.

It's hard to tell if this maiden has any idea that's going to happen. Maybe she does, with that expression. Or maybe, she's going to double-cross the huntsmen forcing her to be bait. Maybe Biggles will tell us!

Yes, I was inspired by the tapestries, I think they are particular spectacular (I once went to a great lecture of the dissection of thought that went into them, such as the choice of flowers.) I'd just like to point out that the Unicorn Tapestries are housed in New York, at a fantastical place called the Cloisters. It's an extension of the MET, and is actually not a native building, it's really made for an assemblage of genuine medieval buildings from europe, imported to the US in the early part of the 20th century! I'd very much like to visit some day. If you can, you should. Tell 'em Biggles sent you ;) They won't know what you are talking about.

This...just You know what this looks like to me? The equine version of an extremely posh, rich and well-bred socialite, getting hit on by a slick flyboy from the 'hood. She totally does not know how to deal with it other than stare down her aristocratic nose in horror. xD If FroDonk takes just one step closer she's gonna be off like a shot!

And look at that background...I'm thrilled that we have a full sky that enables proper use of the fairy castle now, and the hill in front of it works a charm, doesn't it? A perfect fairytale look. OH!!
