I finished Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon a few days ago. It was 722 pages. The actual "chapters" didn't start until somewhere in the 3-400s. Amazing book. I loved it.

I prefer longer books.
I've been known to read through the dictionary, whenever I get bored...and thoroughly enjoy doing so.
My longest book, excluding the dictionary, is 1182 pages long.
I don't even remember the title, or what it was about...just how long it was xD.

I don't know if it was the longest book I've read or not, but certaintly the one that felt like it was the longest was Madame Bovary. That is without a doubt the worst book I've ever read and was simply torture to read all of it. I don't remember the page count, but I remember it being a lot longer than it needed to be. ^_^

The longest one I've read is probably Shogun, by James Clavis. (Or was it Clavellis?) It was a bit over 1000 pages. It amazes me to see how long authors can put a story into. I'd probably get bored of writing after 3 pages or so. :s

The Count of Monte Cristo...longest book I've ever read.
@ Venus flytrap, a while ago authors used to be paid by the word. More words in a book more money.

The longest one I've read is Deathly Hallows o_o It took me ages (I didn't stop to eat or go to the bathroom when reading :P) so if I attempted something like that or something LONGER I think I would die. ^^

I think the longest book I've read is Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke. I believe it was more than 800 pages but less than 900. I'm not sure. I don't remember. All I know is that it took me AGES to read.

Tsukihami - the dictionary, wow. I like words and vocab and stuff but I just don't think I could do it, I'd get bored to quickly.

Wynna - that's true about being paid by the word, it's kind of sad in my opinion because I think that some of the classics could have been better if it wasn't like that, or some of the stories from that time period could have become classics if they were shorter and easier to read since some of the plot lines are good but drag on for far too long

Cheeryplant - sheesh! I mean I like to sit there and plow through a book but when you gotta pee you gotta pee! course you could always just take the book to the bathroom with you XD

Probably the longest I've ever read is the 2nd book of the Chrestomanci series, it's a really good series, but the 2nd was my favorite. I find almost all the books I've read okay or at least normal.

hmm ... Well, I've read each and everyone one of Terry Goodkind's books, which, from the three I have right next to me run from 630 pages to 1000+

I've also read the Harry Potter books, and several of the Xanth series, Most of V.C. Andrew's books, and all of Laurell K. Hamilton's books or at least what she has out. ... I could go on forever, but I'll stop with that. :P

Anyway, I tend to enjoy the longer books myself, as it allows for greater character development and a smoother plot line. Generally, with the smaller books, I just seem to get into a book and it's ending. And that frustrates me to no end because then I have to go and find another book and .... and I'm babbling ... sorry.

Well i am reading Eragon over and Eldest at the moment but both books are in one cover so since the books are originally separate the longest would have to be not Eragon but another book i read was 800 and a bit more but the rest of the number seems to slip my mind at the moment.

The longest i've finished is Gone With the Wind- which was like 15000 i think. But i've started War and Peace and Les Miserables (which are both as long if not longer than GWtW).

length doesn't really matter to me, but those above are historical fiction so they tend to be longer. Most of the time i only average about 400-600 pages. long books are just like reading a series except its all in one ^_^

i've gotten pretty used to reading long books really fast. Bleak House by Charles Dickens was pretty long, and I had to read it in only a few weeks. Wizard's First Rule is about a thousand pages, so not that long, but it's sequel is longer than that. I think those are the long books I can think of off the top of my head.

Well, I did read War and Peace, along with other Russian novels. Those are so stereotypically long with so many characters. Pretty fun, really.

The longest book I've ever read was Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, at about 1100 pages.
Second to that is Executioner's Song by Norman Mailer at about 1062 pages.

I don't think I could read much more than that in one book...

I'm actually currently reading the longest book I've ever read. :P Well... reading it on and off, really. Sacred Games by Vickram Chandra. It's 900 pages on the dot, which I love just ebcause... it's 900 pages even. I don't think I've ever read anything longer than that, and before it, the longest books I ever read were Harry Potter, Inheritance cycle-type length books.

I don't really prefer long or short books... Sometimes I like short books because I can read them faster and get a burst of fun out of them, and sometimes I like long books because I can get more into them. I think it depends more on the individual book, though. I like books to be long when they're about adventures and political games and battles and stuff like that, but I like them to be shorter when they're about high school or love stories or something like that. Subject matter is important to the length of the book for me- if it's a 700 page romance, I probably won't read it, if it's 200 pages about some epic, life-changing adventure, I probably won't read that either. On the other hand, I'd be more interested in a 200 page romance or a 700 page adventure.

Let me think...
Steven Erikson's books tend to go pretty long. Though I think the longest of his is about 870 some pages.
I've read the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, which was in one book, that was well over 900 pages, and highly entertaining.
Its been awhile since I've read a really long book that was over 1000 pages, and I don't even recall what it was. I guess I'll have to start looking again.

The longest has to be The Strange Case of (something) and Mr. Norrel. mostly because of the footnotes. I read long book regularly, so it's no big deal. Most are actually over 200. I read a book a day when I don't have homework though! (Although the longer ones can take two or three...)
