One or two books at a time for me. I like to finish things once I start them.

I used to read 1 book a day, unless it was twilight which took me a week to get past the first chapter of the book since i was forced into reading it and knew nothing about it. After that I began to read more and more, meaning I now read up to 6-7 a week depending if I am online or not. I haven't been able to read any more than that since I got out of high school (and this doesn't count school related books)

I tend to have a varied number at any one time. I love Kindle! I used to carry a paperback in my purse at all times and now I just use my Droid! I have shelves of books as I read almost anything. Mysteries & Time Travels are my favorite gendre. Just reread a Nora Roberts triology, In The Garden".

If the book is relatively short I will read up to 3 books, so long as they are not long either. Now of the book I am reading is longer I will only read that one book.

I usually only read one book at a time, because I figure focusing on one is good, BUT just recently realized that when I do that, all of the books kind of melt together, and reading a few at a time would help my brain keep the information separate, even if I don't like the books. I tend to only remember books I enjoy, and pick up ones that I've read before but didn't like, and dislike them again!

Three. One for class, one for learning, and one for recreation. The first is required. The second keeps my brain from going to slush. The third keeps me (relatively) sane.
Right now I'm reading Huck Finn, a book on the Black Death, and rereading Treasure Island.

I usually read one at a time. I have this thing where I'm unable to sleep until I finish a novel, otherwise I'll just keep thinking about the plot and how it'll end... So... Yep!

I read sporadically. I go months without reading anything more than a few pages long, and then one day I pass by the library and I get struck with the urge to take twenty books home. Its sorta embarrasing when I staggered the library staircase with a pile of books in my hands that went up to my neck. I had to buy an extra bag just to cart it all home. Of course, when I get home I only read around two books at a time. Depends on what I feel like doing.

I have three or four books going at any given time, always. I just can't stay occupied with just one book at a time, unless it's one of the few I've found that I read in a day because I can't put it down. I just finished my last three in the last three days and now I'm about to take up A Certain Slant of Light, Night World and I haven't quite yet decided what else.

How many books I read at one time is usually 2 or 3. If you are wondering my speed also it is usually a book a day; if I'm busy it takes about a week.

I only ever read one book so I won't mix up the stories, characters and what not. Plus it's just how I prefer it, one book at a time. [:

I hate reading more than one book at a time. I don't feel like I'm properly immersed in the story if I'm bouncing back and forth between different fictions. Having said that, since getting a Kindle I usually read two books at once -- one on my Kindle and one in paperback so I can read it in the bath.
I'm reading Life of Pi at the moment, and Stephen King's It... but I've already read It so I don't think it counts. xD

There's a couple that I just never finished, would those count?
But as far as actively reading, um, about five right now.

I use to read alot more when I was still living at my moms house and had alot more time on my hands to just go and read. If they were short books I could read probally 2 a day longer ones depending on how hooked I was on them would take me a few days to a week to read. I read the Twilight series rather quickly it only took me 2 or 3 days to read Twilight and that is I think around 600 pages long. I am a slower reader but I read for long periods of time.

i can only read one book at a time or else i get super confused \:
like, plots become intertwined in my mind and i keep thinking WAIT DIDN'T X AND Y HAPPEN WHY AREN'T THEY MENTIONING THAT ANYMORE?!? and it's a big ol' mess.
i can read multiple books in one sitting if i'm bored enough though. but i've got to read one whole book first before moving onto the next. i'm not equipped to handle multiple plots. sometimes i even confuse plots on tv shows. my poor bb brain /dramatic

I tend to read multiple books at once,
or really, just start multiple books and then not finish them for awhile,
I bounce between books a lot.

I don't have much time for reading at all, much less multiple books at once!
I prefer reading only one book at a time. If I really want to start another book while I'm in the middle of one, I'll usually stop reading that one altogether, read the new one, and then come back to the old one. Switching back and forth sounds confusing.
