WYSIWYG

First things first. WYSIWYG stands for What You See Is What You Get. Now for the basics. How can YOU tell if your WYSIGWYG is enabled? Well, first thing you do is check in your settings. Go to My Account, find "Edit Options and at the very bottom of that page you will see this:

You want the last two options. First one you can turn WYSIWYG off or on, your best choice in Flink's opinion. Or if you absolutely adore WYSIWYG, just choose WYSIWYG. For those of you who choose the second option "Standard Editor - Extra formatting controls", you will have the right window automatically when making a new thread, BUT if you are replying remember to click this button:

Once you are in the new thread window or the advanced view window, it should look something like this:

Minus the red thing that Flink drew. THAT is to show you what you're supposed to click to turn on WYSIWYG. Note that it's just plain, normal grey like everything around it, right? Well, click it, give it a moment to load and the icon should look like this:

You have OFFICIALLY TURNED WYSIWYG on! Keep reading for something NEAT!

Is the WYSIWYG window too short or too tall for you? Well, just look at those neat little arrow things right beside the icon for turning WYSIWYG ON!

THOSE are the Increase/Decrease Size buttons. The top one decreases, bringing the end of the window UP. While the bottom one increases, taking the end of the window DOWN.

THE TOP ROW

CONGRATULATIONS! After HOURS of trying to click the "Go Advanced" button in the tutorial you probably -finally- figured out it was part of the tutorial and managed to turn on WYSIWYG! YOU are awesome. You should take a moment to admire your awesomeness. Then get yourself ready for MORE TUTORIAL! WOO!

First things first. We may as well go through the buttons in order. Especially for the most important and maybe even YOUR worst enemy button. The "Remove Text Formatting" button:

This button removes -all- formatting. So don't click it unless you absolutely want to. Or else you'll have to start all over. So keep it in, it's there, but your relationship with it will be love/hate. You love to use it sometimes, it hates to do what you actually want it to do when you accidentally click it.

Now to actually learn how WYSIWYG actually works! This is so cool, so brace yourself. See above where it says Fonts? Look below for help locating it:

Well, see that? Well, select some text, like Flink's doing RIGHT now, then click "Fonts" and pick a font of your choice. Will you look at that? "some text" is all different than the other text!

Notice how we're doing the first line for now? Well, keep your pants on! HEY! DROP THAT HAMMER. It's not that kind of Impact. Next is size, so yes see it above?:

Just like before, remember to highlight what you want to change first, then click. Then you'll get the size all nice and changed:

Also, keep in mind that you can combine them. Just remember the text normally stays selected, but be sure to make certain that it is before clicking any new formatting options. Which brings us to our next option text color! Can you guess where it is? Why of course! Right beside the size option!:

and the aftermath

Flink will stop with the examples for everything since most of them are really easy to see and it's getting kind of annoying saying all of these pictures. So for now, just a, "This is how it's done." If you seriously MUST have product images, just PM Flink she'll consider it. XD

Back to the tutorial. Smilies, smiles, whatever you call them. Even emoticons there's more than one way to put them on Menewsha:

See, there's the main one, above following the order that the rest of Flink's tutorial has taken and there's the other list over to the right. Notice the "[More]" thing below them? Click that! See what you get?

Note for emoticons/Smilies:
Clicking on the IMAGE in all cases will put the emoticon into your post in the place where your typing cursor currently is. You CAN copy/paste them, or even delete them.

Last in this line of icons on the WYSIWYG is the Undo/Redo buttons.

Note that the one on the LEFT goes backwards, obviously it's pointing backwards, to the left. And the one to the right goes FORWARDS. This means that the left undoes something and if you change your mind, the right one can redo it. Flink tries not to use these buttons too much since they generally remove/add way more than she wants them to.

THE BOTTOM ROW
The bottom row is the next part of Flink's tutorial. In the bottom row you have most of your basic formatting for a post. Including Bold, Italic, Underline, even alignment. Like with the first part, Flink will be going from left to right with the icons on the bottom row of the WYSIWYG interface of Menewsha.

Including will be screen caps, and other nice fun official stuff along with her usual silliness. So sit back, relax, and at least pretend to listen.

First things first, is the Bold icon, remember when using it like everything else on the tutorial to select the text you would like to bold. Then click the bold button, same goes for the italics and underline functions:

Next you have the alignment icons. From left to right they are well.... Left to right. Heh. First one is left, second is center, and last is right align. When Flink gets this paragraph big enough she'll center align it just to show everyone what the big deal about center alignment is. It's really centered, and not in the spiritual sense.

Now, next you'll see the "Ordered List" and "Unordered List" buttons. Right now Flink will tell you the basics about them and later, in a seperate post she'll elaborate on new and interesting ways to fix the lists.

For a basic list all you need is to type something, remember to press enter after each thing you want listed:

  • This
  • List
  • Is
  • Stupid

Then select it.

And click whichever list you wanted to use. Flink is using the unordered list, because as a stupid list, it should be unable to count.

Next up on the tutorial are the indent icons. They are Decrease Indent and Increase Indent.

Flink is going to play around with the indent of the header for this post, since it's closer to the top. So after you look at this, please pay attention to how close, or how far the header is from the left side of the post area.

Flink also pressed "Increase Indent" three times.
NOTE: Indent is NOT a replacement for the alignment tags/functions. If you want your text center aligned, use the center function, NOT the "Increase Indent".

Flink's so sorry it's taken her so long, but as promised the URL and image icons are going to be covered. First one is the Insert Link button.

Like almost everything else select what you want to link. When you click the "Insert Link" button a dialog box will pop up, just enter the link you into the box.

The button beside it is the "Remove Link" button. To use it first you select the text, including the URL code you want remove, then click the button.

It'll remove all of the URL information. Next is the email link. Like the Insert Link you have to select the text you want to be the email link.

Also like before with the insert link button, a box will pop up asking you for the email address you want to use. Type in the email address, then click OK and you have created a link to your email!

For the insert image button, you just click it and paste the link of the image you want added to the post.

Last but not least, the quote tag! A very useful tag indeed. For quotes you select the text you want to make a quote:

Quote:

This concludes Flink's WYSIWYG Tutorial.
