After the video 'El Manana' was released, many feared that the youngest Gorillaz band mate met her demise. Many believe that they saw her escape, but others can't see it. People blamed Murdoc for it all, wondering if it had been a plan, but the English man had denied it, to this day. In their new video, 'Stylo', Murdoc and 2D are seen with a robotic Noodle, that seems to be under the control of the bassist. Since that video, the band seemed to drift apart. 2D now resides in Manhattan, at least, until Murdoc kidnaps him. Russel hasn't been seen since El Manana and hasn't been in contact with his friends.
Murdoc, after the kidnapping, tried to reach out to Russel, explaining that he found a new home for them, since their old one was destroyed. Russel accepted but left out that part that he wasn't coming alone. Noodle, the real one, was with him. They made their way to the island by boat, when their boat was attacked by pirates.
What Murdoc didn't know was that Plastic Beach, the island he bought a house on, wasn't a vacant island. There were a few locals, under a dozen, to play into the new events that were going to happen with the Gorillaz.
