"I can't make any promises," Erwan sighed, though he did not outright say he would deny Chance's request. Although he stated before that he would state things exactly as they happened to the guard, he did wonder at this point how his meeting would go. To cause fighting of course was never his goal. Stepping back after Chance's continued shows of affection, Erwan turned his attention to Hayden. "I am glad you still think highly of me after all this. I..." He shook his head, not finding any proper words to finish his statement. "We can talk more after we returned. He nodded his head to Chance in farewell then turned toward his dragon. Hayden mounted, clearly ready to leave.

At the last second though, Erwan turned back to Chance. "I do believe that we will meet again. Let us hope it is under better and truer circumstances." With that, he finally grabbed the straps on Rornigoth's saddle to pull himself up. The large rust dragon rumbled with energy, the power rushing into Erwan's head as well. Before he could command it, the dragon was already rushing off the ground, spreading his large wings above the trees before speeding straight for the capital city they called home.

Hayden nodded, waiting for Erwan and Rornigoth to lift into the air, following them, offering one last smile and wave to Chance.

He was silent for most of the flight home, using the links they had with theirdragons to speak with Erwan, so he'd be heard above the beating wings and rushing air. "Erwan... what are we going to tell the others when we return home?" he asked, sounding nervous even through the link. He was scared someone would find out, especially as he planned on betraying the guards secrets to the rebels... though only he and Chance knew that part... along with their dragons. He knew Liyiath was loyal to him, but Rornigoth... he eyed the red warily.

Erwan was surprised to hear a question from Hayden as they flew. Not that the question itself was surprising, but that the younger dragon rider sounded so nervous that he couldn't wait until later to ask. Turning to glance at Hayden, he replied after only a second. 'Tell them what you want. As members of the guard, we are charged with telling the truth.' He hesitated, running one hand along his dragon's neck as if the gesture might comfort him. The rush of feelings that Rornigoth sent him was only filled with sardonic laughter though. 'However...follow your heart.' That was the most Erwan would give Hayden, knowing that the decision was not his place at all. He didn't know exactly what version of the truth he would tell either, but no matter what, it would be a truth.

But if our stories conflict... If one of us says something the other doesnt... he didn't want o think about what kind of punishment they could receive. He'd seen what happened if you were caught disobeying orders, and breaking laws... He had no doubt that this, entering into a mating flight with their enemy, would be seen as worse, especially as they failed to bring Chance and Layla back with them.

Chance held the shirt, giving a small smile as he waved the two dragon riders off, watching them disappear before he turned back to his own dragon. ”Well I guess we will see if we die or not.” he said absently to Laila as he pat her on the neck, snorting at her comment as he shook his head. Making the long trek back to the village so that he could check on everyone before he needed to make his way back to the rebel hideout so that they could discuss what happened today and what their future movies would be.

After he made his rounds, he climbed into Laila’s back, flying off to the cabin in the woods that they had stopped at earlier. ”what do you expect from me, Laila?” he asked the white furry dragon, setting his things inside the house before he was coming out to start scrubbing his companion clean. They had a silent conversation between them, the only sign that they were having a conversation was the faces they seemed to be making as they showed their negative emotions from the argument.

Erwan shook his head slightly. Hayden seemed intent on getting him to say exactly what they should do when they reached the city. Did Hayden want spoon fed answers? That would be the same as directly telling another person to lie and be held responsible himself, or he could condemn Hayden and possibly himself by saying they should tell the exact truth. Either way left his teeth clenched too tight.

'If you want my wisdom, you should fly hard west instead and skip the whole matter entirely,' Rornigoth cut into his thoughts, though Erwan had asked for no wisdom of the sort. He scoffed and held tighter onto the saddle as if to say they would continue on their current path.

'Then things will go as deserved. The one caught in a lie will be punished, but you worry too much. The contents of a mating flight are excusable under every circumstance. They know the lack of control we have. They...they will always be far more lenient to those who tell the truth, no matter how bad, than those caught later in a lie,' he finally conceded to Hayden. 'So if you intend to lie, lie very well or not at all. I will not try to endanger you, but I cannot make promises as to outcomes. Watch your back, watch it well.'

Hayden thought on what Erwan and Rornigoth both said. ...What if... What if we simply left out the knowledge of Chance being a rebel? There are plenty of wild dragons out there. I'm certain there must be more than a few riders outside of the guard... he suggested, trying to work out plan past his fear. Perhaps the rider disappeared after the mating was over. Perhaps we simply came across the burnt village ourselves and helped the wounded? ...Would they go to check our story out? Make sure there was no other riders there? He was still scared. He knew what happened to traitors... But he also wanted to keep Chance and Laila safe.

'It would make more sense to say we suspected we mated with the rebel, but did not get to speak with him or learn anything about the rebels or his dragon. Which is...fairly true. We saw a single village. We helped people in need because that is the edict of the guard. There is no reason they should feel ill about that, but it will be more believable if we give them something rather than try to sweep all of the events under the rug, so to say. They are smart enough to be suspicious.' Erwan didn't know why he let himself get drawn into this spinning of half-truths, but the more that Hayden pressed, the more he started using the word 'we' instead of 'you'.

Sighing to himself, he really wondered how this might end up. He still held tightly to his faith in the guard though and he also held that they did nothing wrong, or at least, that he knew of. Perhaps in a brief moment when he saw Hayden and Chance sitting unnervingly close. Maybe they? But he pushed the thought out of his head, refusing to suspect someone he'd been in charge of. Only the worst sort of leader would think in that way.

Hayden gave a small nod, agreeing with Erwan about what their best plan could be. "Alright. That will work. I... Im hoping we dont get in trouble for this... he replied, shivering a little. It was late in the day and n as ginning to set. Most of the guard would probably be sitting down to dinner shortly, so they'd only have few guards to deal with, thankfully.

Erwan did not answer the younger man, but deep inside his heart, he held the same sentiments. If they did get in trouble, it would be of the worst sort. After trying so hard to get where he was now, he couldn't afford that. "Stay with me," he murmured against Rornigoth's neck before urging the dragon to fly faster, knowing that the fort lay near, the capitol a glistening jewel just beyond the plains and tiny dots of villages.

The rest of the journey passed with Erwan's hands clenched tightly around the saddle horn, wind drowning out all his thoughts. The sun sat low on the horizon when Rornigoth soared downward, aiming for the wide ravine in a cliff that served as the dragon's landing area, their own roosts lining the cliffs and hills beyond the capital. The dragon lighted down on the wide open space atop the city's side of the cliffs, then snapped his wings closed. A couple young academy students walked near the barracks and a bored guard watched from atop a tower. They'd drawn no unusual attention so Erwan slid down from his dragon's back, arm resting on a scaly leg as he waited for Hayden and Laila to land. At least the air was warm and the walk would work out the kinks in his legs.

'Do you want me to keep my saddle on?' Rornigoth asked, his tone just a little too snide to be considerate.

Erwan snorted back. 'Only if you want to fly duty patrols for the next month.' The image of burning leather--a bit like his vest and boots--answered well enough. 'Then I will deal with the riding gear after we report.'

Upon Erwan and Hayden landing a fellow female guard came up to them, ignoring their mounts as she did so. She was not like most of the dragon riders there in the wern as she had white hair and eyes that were just as white as her hair was which matched her pale skin. Her dragon on the other hand was as dark as she was white. "Erwan, Hayden. We have been waiting for you." she said to them simple as she and her dragon companion turnned and headed towards the leader of their section of the dragon rider guard. She stopped out side of the head office, turning to look at them as a soft worried look crossed her face. "I hope....I hope that whatever took you both so long was worth it." she said softly before turning back to knock on the door. A muffled voice could be heard upon responding. "Sir it is Ava and i have brought Erwan and Hayden as you requested." she listened to the voice behind the door before she opened it and motioned for both males to enter the room for their debriefing.

Erwan nodded his head in greeting to Ava, not surprised to see her approach, although his first glance over the area hadn't alerted him to the woman's presence. As an ally though, he didn't hesitate to follow. "Of course, thank you for coming to meet us, though we would have been find without the escort," he replied cordially, though stiff. He looked back, meeting Hayden's eyes for a second before he turned to follow Ava into the offices. In that second, there was warmth in his gaze. As he turned away though, that warmth left, his usual polite coolness settling onto his face. There was no reason to show too much now and he hoped that might work as a shield for them both. "Me too," Erwan whispered back to Ava, then walked into the office with his back straight and determination in his gaze.

"Good evening, sir," Erwan greeted, clenching his hand over his heart in the usual greeting for superior officers. "We have come to give you the report regarding our mission with the rebel dragon rider."

Hayden was nervous, just as he had been the other few times he'd had to on other flights. It wasn't so unusual, though this time he had a legitimate reason. Glancing Erwan as the older male looked back at him, he felt some of the tension leave him. He offered him a small smile and a nod, as ready as he'd ever be. Following Erwan into the office, he gave the same salute to their leader. Being the younger, less experienced rider of the two of them, he chose to remain silent until addressed.

The man behind the desk was surprisingly young for the office he held, sporting a slick curled mustache and bright blue eyes. "Yes, come in. Thank you Ava, please shut the door behind." A second later, the door closed, leaving just Erwan and Hayden standing in front of the section leader. "So, did you find the rebel dragon rider?" Despite his soft voice and the relaxed posture, the other man never blinked as he looked at the two in front of him. As Erwan expected, it wouldn't do to lie obviously to this man. Rather, they needed to hurry with their reports before anything important spilled.

"Ah...yes," Erwan murmured, meeting the section leader's gaze with his one good eye. He too did not blink or try to hide his gaze. "We did come upon the rebel rider, but a female dragon went into heat nearby and things became....complicated after that..." He swallowed once, maintaining his confidence although other emotions lurked inside. "We never got the chance to talk and learned nothing of the rebel base or the whereabouts of others, if any. The only information I have is that he and the dragon are a properly bonded pair."

Humming to himself, the section leader regarded Erwan and Hayden with interest. Curiosity took the forefront, though he didn't quite appear done with them either. "I see. I would like to hear every detail you recall, however. What of the dragon? What type were they? And the rider was male? We must have more information before we take action!"

Erwan's lips dipped into a faint frown. "I thought this was a mission of diplomacy and mending relations before action must be taken," he added lightly.

The section chief waved his hand in dismissal. "Of course, of course. I never said it wasn't. But still, I need more!"
