Yeah, they just mostly symbolize rebirth. I don't think I've really really read that they do anything.

Yes, yes, they do that. In some myths the ashes just because a baby bird and in some it's an egg made of myrrh. I know that it can regenerate itself but I've only heard about it healing others in Harry Potter.
