Lost hugged her closer, humming to her quietly. Pulling Isis' head under his chin, the doll rubbed her back, remembering how comforting the motion had been to him when Mother did it. Everyone had their moments of fear, and Lost was glad to be there for Isis during one of hers.
Continuing to hum a haunting tune, one he had heard when he was first created, Lost leaned his chin on Isis' head. The storm could be long; he didn't care. He only wanted to stay here in this moment for Isis, to comfort her in her time of need. Stroking her back again, Lost held his friend to him, savoring her warmth. He closed his black eyes, feeling her tremble at the sound of thunder.

Isis relished in his warmth and slowly started to relax. The thunder still made her jump and tremble, but she seemed to be coming out of it little by little. Isis focused on his humming, quickly getting lost in the haunting tune. It seemed vaguely familiar, yet she could not seem to put her finger on it. Her trembling soon slowed to a light shaking before stopping completely. Isis didn't want to move though, not yet. She felt too comforted and safe to remove herself from his arms. She just hoped Lost wouldn't mind. "Thank you...for finding me." She whispered quietly, her words only slightly muffled by his shirt.

((Whoops. :XD))

Life followed Selma, taking a seat beside her. "Need something to drink?" he asked, watching her worriedly. After a few seconds, he hesitated, and the pale man continued. "I'm sure she was just . . . odd. She didn't seem very worried about it or anything." His white eyes scanned over Selma's face, and he fought the urge to brush her hair away from her face.

Lost opened his eyes slowly.
"How could I not find you," he said in a rough voice. "You needed someone. I just happened to hear you." The doll ran a dark hand over her hair. There was a bit of silence before he took a deep breath and replied to her thanks. "You're welcome."
Humming again, Lost let his arms loosely hold Isis. It was calm, quiet within the wardrobe - a place of solitude and safety. Thank you for letting me come to you, he thought to himself.

Selma jumped a mile hearing the thunder crash. She was never afraid of thunder. Just of what it reminded her of. She turned towards the window. Staring at it wide eyed. The flash lit up the room more as another louder crash struck through the air. Selma unintentionally buried her face into Life's chest. "Make them stop" She whispered to him. Very calmly. Though her arms were shaking slightly. She wrapped her arms around his neck, hiding herself from the thunder even more. It crashed again, making her tighten her grip. Probably almost choking the poor doll now. A small shriek came from down the hall. From Isis's room, though it did not even phase Selma. The scream itself did though. "It will end.. It will end" Selma told herself. Muttering into Life.

Isis kept her head down, resting it on his shoulder as he spoke. A small smile slid into place as she sighed softly. "I've just always hated the thunder. Even before Mother came along." She said, absentmindedly playing with the material of his shirt. She relized that the wardrobe was much more quiet, blocking out the sound of the thunder fairly well. Isis felt much better knowing that Lost was there and that she didn't have to sit through the storm all alone. She shifted slightly to move her blanket before draping it over him as well, not wanting to hog it. It would only be rude if she didn't offer him a part of the blanket. She then settled back to the way she had been before and closed her eyes, listening to him hum.

Life gasped for breath momentarily before shifting his position and pulling Selma into his lap. "Hey," he crooned, sympathetically patting her arm awkwardly. "It's alright."
He figured it would be another one of her visions, considering the loud crashing and other noises that acompanied the thunder. His white eyes settled on Selma's hair, and he hesitantly ran his hand through it - just as Mother used to do for him when he was a newer doll. Things had frightened him, yet Mother always seemed to know what to do to make it all stop.

Lost accepted the blanket as it was tugged over his legs, and he shifted his position to hold Isis in his lap. Cradling the woman to him, the dark-skinned doll nodded. "There are things that we can't help but fear," he said in a rasp, clearing his throat. He was still a bit damp, and hoped the Isis didn't mind. "But that doesn't mean we are alone."
Feeling her relax, Lost continued to hum the very same tune that Mother had sung to him the last time he had gone to her with a fear he couldn't control. Mother always knew what to do for them; both Life and Lost had enjoyed her company for the few days it took to get used to their new bodies.

((Bwaaaa, Something in common!))

Selma gripped his shirt in a fistful. Her knuckles were turning white though she heard and voice and calmed down. Almost automatically. Life seemed to know just what to do. Almost as if it was trained into him. She shook her head and blinked her eyes a few times. The other dolls in the room had left at Selma's small episode. She cursed herself. Twice today... I am such a coward.. She though to herself. Fully coming back to the present. She felt him brushing a hand through her hair. Calming her form. Another crash came through the house, yet this time she barely moved. "I am sorry.." She told him again. Feeling a huge burden on her shoulders. How she must have made Life feel every time. Just when the day was so good..

((They are more alike than they think....I love it!))

Isis nodded in undertanding and remained quiet. Mother was an exceptional woman despite her age. She still had quite a lot of pep left in her to last for many more years. She listened to Lost's heart. He seemed to understand her and knew what to do to make her feel better. She couldn't help thinking about Life at that moment. She had no doubt in her mind that the two brothers were more like the other than they realized, or cared to see. Something came to her attention that she had noticed, but hadn't really worried her until now. Not that she was actually worried about the cold, wetness seeping into her own clothes. Isis frowned slightly, asking herself why he was wet. Had Lost gone out in the storm? If so, the main question on her mind was why? Isis shook her head slightly, and left her questions to drift to the back of her mind. She would ask him later if she remembered.

"It's alright," Life said, sighing quietly. "Everything's alright." The pale doll continued to stroke Selma's hair, hugging her tightly. "We can stay here until you feel better. I don't mind." Life kissed the top of her head, letting his white eyes drift over the room. Everyone had left when Selma started acting strangely. Truly, he didn't mind. He just pitied the girl in his arms.

Lost continued to rub Isis' back, his eyes closed. So much for talking about the girl he had seen outside. This certainly wasn't the time for it. Humming the tune from Mother, the doll leaned against the wood behind him, relaxing. It wasn't more than ten minutes later when his gentle song slowed, and then stopped completely. Lost drifted into sleep, his arms wrapped loosely about Isis' form.

Her eyes started to grow heavy, yet Isis did her best to stay awake. This proved to be a pointless effort since Lost was still rubbing her back and humming. Isis let the tune and the calming motions take hold of her and slowly fell asleep just as Lost did himself. Should anyone find them there, it would be an adorable sight to see. Isis fast asleep in Losts' arms as he himself slept soundly. She didn't wake up until much later, after the storm had long since passed. She didn't dare move though, in fear of waking up the doll she was cuddled up to. She smiled to herself and closed her eyes once more, figuring it wouldn't hurt to get a little more sleep.

Life shifted to sit a bit more comfortably, resuming to croon to Selma as she clung to him. "I'll stay until you want me to leave," he said, leaning his head on top of hers. "And I won't leave unless you're feeling better." The pale doll gave Selma another hug, continuing to comfort her.

When Lost drifted into sleep, the peaceful feeling soon moved out of reach. He remembered sitting with Isis, and falling asleep - and then things changed. Though his body stayed still, his mind and emotions were wrapped up in panic and worry. His breathing quickened, and his arms tightened about Isis subconsciously.

She needs you.
Lost shuddered. This wasn't real. It was a dream.
Lost, she needs you.
When he opened his eyes, he saw the shadow of a slender doll, the same one he had seen in the rain. A deep cold swam over him, and it felt as though he was sinking, falling into an abyss of water that pulled him deeper. He saw the light fading, the last thing that filtered through the illumination was the doll's shadow. He couldn't breathe.
She needs you.

Isis felt Lost tighten his arms around her suddenly. A frown creased her brow as she opened her eyes to look at him. He seemed to still be asleep, so she wondered if he was having a nightmare. This was when she noticed his breathing was irregular, and much quicker than before. This was starting to scare the doll. Seeing his eyes open, Isis saw that Lost was staring off at something. She turned her head to get a look and noticed a shadow in her room, but she was unsure of what it was exactly. "L-Lost?" She said softly in a whisper, not wanting to attract the attention of the shadowed figure.Isis could no longer hear him breathing. She broke her attention away from the shadow to ficus on Lost. "Lost!"

Lost blinked a few times, his black eyes slowly coming into focus on Isis. He mouthed the words he heard - she needs you. His breath came back in a gasp, and the dark-skinned youth focused on Isis for a few moments until things were a bit more normal. Giving the girl a hug, he tensed suddenly - there was someone in the room outside of the wardrobe. Was it the shadow from his dream? As he watched, the shade stepped closer without a noise, it's hand reaching forward to grasp the door.
Lost's arms tightened, and he shifted Isis farther from the door protectively. "What do you want?" he rasped, glaring at the strange doll.
"She needs you, Lost . . . Isis."
The girl was gangly, tall and skinny, her blue hair stringy and dirty. Staring at the couple with blank eyes she stood still as stone, staring at the wardrobe wall behind them.

Isis watched as Lost slowly came back to her. It had looked like he was off in space with the look he had on his face a few seconds before. Isis saw him mouth some words. She didn't understand what he had meant by that. She had been about to say something when she felt him tense and hug her close to him. She could see the shadow move behind the door of the wardrobe. Someone was in her room. Isis gasped softly at the sight of the new doll. She seemed too pale, almost like an unhealthy pale. Her words confused her, yet she had seen Lost mouth them only seconds ago.

"W-What do you mean? Who is she?" Isis asked quietly, not letting herself use her normal voice. She was too afraid of this new doll to speak normally. She surled into Lost's side and wrapped her arms around his waist.

"Mother," the blue-haired woman replied, as though that were the answer to all problems.
Lost glanced down to Isis, but his black eyes swiftly refocused on the doll. "How?" His voice was more of a growl, like he was trying not to be feral - though he was trembling slightly. This couldn't be another hallucination. Not with Isis in it - not like this.
"Mother needs you," she said, suddenly lurching away from the wardrobe. Her eyes focused on something far off, and her neutral face fell into a pained frown. "Come." The stranger extended a white hand, turning her attention back to the couple. She didn't seem phased by Lost's protectiveness; by their fear or wariness. "She told Zarrah to get you," the doll said, tilting her head in a bird-like motion. Her glassy eyes settled on Lost and Isis for seemingly the first time. "She said you'd misunderstand."
Lost shook his head. This wasn't right. "You're Zarrah?" he asked, a sudden realization coming to him. He had seen this doll before.
"Of course," the girl replied, a slight frown on her pale face. "That's what Mother calls her."
The dark-skinned boy tensed. "Where have I seen you?" He sounded strong, his voice deep instead of ragged.
"You're one of us."
Lost blinked slowly in surprise. One of us?
Zarrah turned to look off in the distance again, re-extending her sickly thin hand. "Come."
The boy looked to Isis, raising an eyebrow. "Should we?"

Mother? Mother needed their help? Isis began to worry at this. She loved mother dearly and would never believe mother could be in trouble. She could feel Lost tremble as he tried not to lash out. The strange doll's sudden movement caused Isis to flinch away, pressing closer to Lost. He tensed, and Isis was concerned about this. He knew this doll? Issis started to get confused, but she shook her head in hopes of staying with the conversation. Wait, Lost sounded different. His voice wasn't rough and raspy as usual, now it was deep and smooth. "One of us?" Isis said quietly, not understanding what this ment. This Zarrah wanted them to go with her. She looked at the pale hand that was being held out to them. It could be a trap. A way to get both dolls to leave the house and be forever a lifeless doll. Or, mother really could be in trouble. Isis thought about this for a little bit and nodded. "What if Mother really is in trouble? We can't just stay here and hope she'll be okay."

Zarrah looked away from the two dolls, stepping over to the window. She silently pointed to a small spot in the iron fence where one of the bars looked like it had been bent. "There," she whispered before slipping out the window and landing on the ground below in a crouch, loping over to stand near the designated spot.
Lost let out a few coughs, covering his mouth with a fist. When he spoke, his voice was back to it's usual rough sound. "They don't lie," he said, "the Outsiders never lie. Mother needs us."
His black eyes stayed locked on the window, but he stood carefully, pushing Isis up with him. Keeping her hand in his, the dark-skinned boy gently pulled Isis after him, heading for the front door. No window jumping today.
When they got outside, Lost quickly pinpointed the spot where Zarrah waited - despite her slightly blurred appearance. From a distance, she looked like a mirage . . . it was only when you got a few feet away when the woman started to look a bit more solid, if not barely able to stand. She was far too sickly and thin, tall and brittle looking.
Zarrah wordlessly stared at the two, sliding between the bent iron bars quietly. Waiting on the other side, she motioned with a white hand.
Lost glanced nervously to Isis. "Mother told us never to leave the grounds," he hissed, shaking his head. His shaggy black hair fell about his dark face as he looked down at the border of their territory.
Zarrah stood silent for a moment, and then turned toward the dark forest behind her, beginning to walk away. "She needs you," she whispered, her voice somehow carrying back to the couple.
Gritting his teeth, Lost headed for the fence, looking to Isis before squeezing through the ruined border. He stood still for a few seconds on the other side, as though expecting to fall lifeless to the ground. When nothing happened, Lost breathed out a quiet breath, reaching for Isis' hand. In words that echoed Zarrah's, he met his friend's gaze.
"She needs us."

Isis watched the pale, sickly doll slip out of the window and into the yard. She felt a little uneasy about her, yet if Mother trusted her enough to send her to them, then that would have to do. She turned to Lost when he had a sudden fit if coughs. His voice was back to its usually rough tone. "Who are the Outsiders?" she asked after he mentioned them. Isis felt more confused than she could ever remember feeling. She followed lost as he headed out of her room and then out the front door.

She gasped when the pale doll slipped through the bars of the fence and stood on the other side waiting. Mother told them to never leave. They would become lifeless if they crossed the barrier surrounding the house. Isis grabbed his hand as Lost headed for the fence. If it was a dirty trick, he would be forever a lifeless doll. Isis didn't know if she would be able to handle that. Holding her breath as he sqeezed through the hole, Isis watched him. She had expected him to fall to the ground, but when he didn't she let out a sigh of relief. So many things ran through her mind as Lost reached out to her. What if the spell only worked for one of them? What if she became a lifeless doll? Shaking these thoughts from her head, Isis took a deep breath and closed her eyes tightly as she passed through the border. Lost was right. She needed them.

Lost pulled Isis to him when she followed through the fence, giving her a hesitant hug before starting in surprize. Zarrah stood a few feet away, staring at them. "She-"
He cut her off, shaking his head. We know, he mouthed. Looking to Isis, he seemed excited. This was an adventure - right out of the books. He said as much. "Like Narr in 'Deep Forest,'" he whispered, squeezing Isis' hand. It was one she hadn't read yet, but it was on his list of novels to lend to her.
Zarrah continued along on an invisible path, not so much as checking to see if the others followed her. Lost kept his stride short enough to match Isis', but sometimes got a bit carried away. His steps were long and quick, but he kept recalling to mind that his friend needed him to slow down a bit. He was excited - noticably so.
It wasn't very long before the misty trees surrounded them, no sign of their grounds or home anywhere in sight. Lost scanned the scenery, his black eyes wide. It was then that he glanced down to Isis, clearing his throat to speak. "The Outsiders," he explained, answering her earlier question, "are the others. We aren't the only dolls that Mother has brought to life." His dark skin seemed to absorb light from the fog, making him look like a moving shadow . . . Zarrah was the opposite - she looked like a wandering ghost.

Isis was glad that Lost had pulled her to him. She sighed in relief and hugged him lightly before watching the pale doll walk away. Lost was right. This was an adventure. His excitement seemed to be rubbing off on her, for she too was getting excited. She never thought she would ever be on the other side of the border. So Mother had brought other dolls to life too, which made sense seeing as there were many dolls in those pictures they had looked at. "I see." She said, nodded quickly as they followed Zarrah. Isis took in Lost's appearence. He seemed like a shadow moving along beside her. He was the opposite from Zarrah, for she was so pale it looked as though her skin glowed. Isis was a little warry of her surroundings, not liking the fact that it looked like a scene from a movie where the kids go into the forest and only one makes it back out alive. She shivered at this thought then shook it from her mind. She had to focus on the task at hand, saving Mother.

((That deleting post thing . . . that was irritating. :XD))

Lost silenced, his black eyes scanning the mist and dark shadows. Things looked so surreal, like they weren't really there - like one of his hallucinations. For the first time since they had left the doll house grounds, the dark-skinned doll hesitated. Is this real?
Glancing at Isis' hand in his, he frowned. Before he could say anything, Zarrah let out a small cry of alarm. "Mother!" The gangly doll fell to her knees, grasping her head like a lunatic. Her glassy blue eyes were wild, and her face was held in a painful grimace. Her cry echoed about the forest, resounding off of the trees like a group of different voices. Instead off trailing off, it seemed to get louder.
Lost's black eyes widened. "Do you hear that?" Listening hard, it almost sounded like many other voices, not just Zarrah's. They all cried out from just beyond the trees ahead of them. Taking a slow step in that direction, Lost let his hand slip from Isis' as he moved forward. It was then that he himself felt a piercing pain in his chest - it was what happened every time he had a breathing fit.
His dark hand shot up to the middle of his chest, and he flinched. Hearing his own breathing catch, and then halt, Lost felt the mist closing in on him. He couldn't breathe.
The ground swiftly seemed to overcome him as the darkness closed in.

Zarrah took a few shuddering breaths before getting back to her feet, stumbing a bit. "She . . ." the doll was gasping, "is in danger. Mother . . . needs us." Looking to Lost, who had fallen unconscious, she frowned. "Can't . . . help him. We must go." The blue-haired woman grasped Isis' wrist in a vice-like grip, pulling her along after her as they headed toward the other voices. "She needs us."

((Yes, I have to agree. It really set me back a little. How can someone accidentally delete and important part of the site without realising?))

Isis stopped when she felt the other doll hesitate beside her. He hadn't once hesitating until now, and this worried her. Did he think something was wrong? She was about to ask him when she heard Zarrah scream. The pale doll seemed to be in so much pain, Isis wasn't sure of what to think until Lost stepped forward, letting her hand slip from his. Deep inside, Isis knew it was not a good idea for him to have let go of her, and her thoughts were confirmed when she heard his breath hitch and saw him press his fist to the center of his chest. "Lost? Lost!" She yelled out as he swayed on the spot before falling to the ground. Just as she was about to go to him, Isis felt a cold hand grab her and drag her forward. Her eyes widened at the thought of leaving Lost laying there. "W-What? No, we can't leave him there.....he can help us..." She struggled against the vice-like grip on her wrist to no avail. It was useless. The pale, gangly, blue haired doll was much stronger than she looked and no matter how much Isis tried to drag herself in the other direction, she only seemed to move forward as the other doll pulled her.

Zarrah ignored Isis' protests, merely pulling her into the fog and darkness until Lost was completely gone. Moving through the trees and brush, the tall doll wheezed for breath as they walked quickly, almost jogging. Zarrah grunted in relief as a tacky wooden fence came into view. It's rotted posts were falling apart, and offered easy entrance to both girls. Inside the border marker was a dingy town, all of it sized perfectly for dolls. Everything had fallen into disrepair - shingles were missing off of ever single roof, windows without glass were borded up, and the wooden foundations were rotting.
There was no movement, no life. The occassional fluttering sheet hung tattered from a few posts between the shacks, and shadows melded with sickness thoughout the town. Zarrah plodded on, her breathing getting worse as she went.
"Mother," she hacked, "is inside." Letting out a few racking coughs, the sickly doll pulled Isis into the largest structure there - a canvas tent.
Inside there were a few other dolls that sat huddled about a woman who lay on the floor. Mother's breathing was shallow as she slept, and every other life form seemed just as sick and tired as Zarrah appeared to be. Zarrah released Isis' wrist as the two of them approached Mother, and only a few dolls looked up to see who they were. Each of them seemed to be having trouble breathing, but none were as affected as Lost had been.
Stepping up beside Mother's face, Zarrah pressed a bleached hand on the woman's face, her expression neutral. "Mother," she said quietly, sitting to lean against the unconscious woman's neck. Turning her glazed eyes to Isis, she frowned. "Help her."

Isis continued to look back at Lost's unconscious form until she could no longer see him. A pulling in her heart made her feel guilty for leaving him there, yet there was nothing she could do to get the death grip on her wrist to loosen. Isis followed the sickly doll through a rotted fence which gave them easy access to the small, dollsized town. Isis held her breath as she took in the delapitated houses and the...dead, ghost town feel and look of the place. It was very depressing to look at indeed.

As Zarrah pushed her forward, into the large tent, Isis gasped at the sight of mother laying there on the ground. She could hear the ragged breaths coming from the older woman, and Isis felt her eyes well up with tears. She hadn't been affected by this like the other had, and she didn't know why and that scared the doll more than she would ever admit. She gulped nervously and stepped toward Mother's nearly lifeless figure and knelt near her head. "Oh Mother what has happened to you?" she whispered as she pushed the graying hair away from the woman's forehead. The skin the was incredibly hot, which meant that Mother was running a fever. "I..I don't know what to do....there are so many reasons for one to have a fever....I just don't know..." She said truthfully, a few tears falling down her cheeks in frustration. Whatever had caused Mother's current condition must have been very strong, for Mother was very healthy for her age. Not even a common cold or flu could break through Mother's strong old body.

((No, I can't say I have. But I really have been meaning to play. I love the randomness of it! <3))
