I wanted to create Mene's first Purely Monty Python thread because I've already come across a few fans. More than Gaia. I guess it's because people are, on average, older.

I myself am 16, but my dad got me into it, along with other British comedies. How did you come to like Monty Python?

  • What is Monty Python?

For everything you need to know:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monty_Python

    Monty Python was a group of six very, very silly men;
Five English twats and one American weirdo.

Together, they produced four extremely silly films, and a rather bonkers TV series: "Monty Python's Flying Circus".

Their efforts were a breakthrough in comedy, and there are still some sad losers who still laugh at their work today. =D

    Films

And Now For Something Completely Different
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Monty Python and the Life of Brian
Monty Python and the Meaning of Life

Very nice idea. I can see myself hanging around here quite a bit.

Anyone have a favorite sketch? At the moment, I'm a fan of the Penguin on the Telly. It's one of those routines that just sticks in your head for days on end.

Eeeeh! This has now become my favourite thread on Mene. Apart from my own threads, of course.

And Mr. Hilter is there! I love Mr. Hilter, and his friends. <3

My favourite recurring character though is Gumby. I'm a huge Gumby fan. <3

"Hello!"
"Are you the brain specialist?"
"Hello!"
"Are you the brain specialist?"
"No, no, I am not the brain specialist. No, no, I am not...Yes. Yes I am."
"My brain hurts!"
"Well let's take a look at it, Mr Gumby."
[Gumby specialist starts to pull up Gumby's sweater.]
"No, no, no, my brain in my head."
"It will have to come out.
"Out? Of my head?"
"Yes! All the bits of it. Nurse! Nurse!"

And when Gumby teaches the viewer how to arrange flowers NICELY, IN A VASE!
<3

All the Gumby sketches are great.
Then there is the summarizing Proust competition ("Proust in his first book, he wrote about, he wrote about.."), the Secret service dentistry sketch, Election night special, Hungarian phrasebook, Dennis Moore!! ("Hand over all your lupins!"), Archeology today, How not to be seen.. I could go on and on. <3

Is And now for something completely different a film though? I thought it was just sketches they "Americanized"? I haven't seen it, but my best friend has..

I love all their other films though. I can't say which one's my favourite because if I start, I'll be going "but the Holy grail has the frenchman and the black knight in it, but Life of Brian has, you know, Brian, the spaceshuttle and the crucifixion, but Meaning of life has the sperm song and Mr. Creosote, and that Middle of the film scene and the tiger, but the Holy grail also has.. Tim. and the rabbit, and..." for an hour.

i actually don't really like it,
but i guess its because i never gave it a chance..
my music teacher loves it, so he got us to watch one of their movies,
and a few of us decided to go into the practise room and talk instead.

but it does seem funny and all.
one of my best friend loves it and quotes Monty Python all the time. xD

This is my theory, and it is mine, and I own it, and what it is also.

You move at your peril, for I have two pistols here. I know one of them isn't loaded any more, but the other one is, so that's one of you dead for sure...or just about for sure anyway. It certainly wouldn't be worth your while risking it because I'm a very good shot. I practise every day...well, not absolutely every day, but most days in the week.
I expect I must practise, oh, at least four or five times a week...or more, really, but some weekends, like last weekend, there really wasn't the time, so that brings the average down a bit. I should say it's definately a solid four days' practice a week...At least...I mean...I reckon I could hit that tree over there. Er...the one just behind that hillock. The little hillock, not the big one on the...you see the three trees over there? Well, the one furthest away on the right...

XDDD

"He steals from the poor and gives to the rich, stupid bitch."

Ooh, I was almost in hysterics yesterday- I had maths tuition with, obviously, my tutor, and he pointed at a fraction, and was like, "This, it is, being this is-" in that same kind of clipped, Anne Elk voice, and I managed to splutter out what he sounded like. xD

Being old, and a guy, he got the reference. xD

I love Anne Elk's cough. My friend and I quote her constantly. Her theory amazes me. <3

Who's your favourite Python, by the way? Mine's Chapman, I just love that man endlessly much. I'm reading a book called Calcium made interesting (love that title, especially since I never was one for physics), it's a collection of essays, lectures, letters, all kinds of stuff Chapman wrote. Some sketches as well, and interviews.
Did you know they actually did use a thesaurus really often for their sketches. It'd occurred to me actually before, but they did. I mean, the Parrot sketch, and the cheese sketch, haha. I love that one.

"Now, I'm going to ask you again, and if you say no, I will shoot you."

Urm.
I don't know who my favourite was. They all have their charms. D=
But I like Idle the least, with regards to acting... he just stuck with writing brilliant tunes, like the Money Song. <3

:O
I don't think I've ever heard anyone saying that before. Most people say either Idle or Cleese are their favourites.
I love them all. <3
Ahaha the Money song, I just heard that for the first time the other day, it was so brilliant! I haven't seen all the shows, but my best friends owns them all, and I'm slowly seeing more and more. We actually held a Monty Python's Flying Circus marathon at our school during the theme days, but watched out not to show any of the Best of clips. Or at least as few as we could handle, since we were showing quite a bit of whole shows as well.
A lot of people showed up, too, considering Monty Python isn't all that known here. :]
