COLD WORLD

In the year 2150, mankind settled on an ice planet code named Artica. The planet was used as a refueling station, with the ice being melted into water, and hydrogen being seperated from the water. A colony was soon set up. But after 50 years, the members of the colony demanded independence, and war broke out between Artica and the UNSC(United Nations Space Command). After 10 years of fighting, a cease fire was called, and both sides came to a truce. But this did not sit well with everyone. Members of the Artica Alliance still want total independence, and members of the UNSC want Artica back under earth control. Then there are those who are simply stuck in the middle.

Bio: Shaun's father fought in the Artica war, and was killed while rescueing a downed troop transport, making him a hero. Shaun holds a grudge against the AA, because they use the killing of his father as a political cry.

Shaun worked in the canyon, cutting down large icecicles with a laser cutter. The Icecicles were then loaded onto a hover truck, and and taken to the fuel depot.

Kaci patrolled a few yards around the city. She had her weapon ready for if no not if when the UNSC came.

After the final truck was loaded, Shaun climbed aboard and they headed for the main city. He took off his suit. He need it because it was so cold outside that your skin would freeze in minute if left exposed.

Kaci was so bored. No one was around. Maybe she could explore. She began looking around.

As the truck neared the city, one of the engines failed. The truck crashed. Shaun was left exposed to the cold.

She saw a NSC truck break down. She would just watch. They weren't worth saving.

Shaun was able to get an arm free. he reached an emergency kit and grabbed a flare gun. Shaun fired a flare into the air. He could already feel his body going into shock.

"What the?" Sam was driving his pick-up-truck when he'd seen the flair in the sky. He quickly hauled his way over to where it had been fired, which took about ten minutes, before he saw what looked like a crashed UNSC truck. "Hey, is anyone hurt in there!" He called as he rushed his way out of his truck door to the scene.

"Hel...help" Shaun barely said. "Fre...freezing"

Finally Sam reached the truck. "Ah, shit..." He said, seeing a man barely alive. He looked like the only one there. "Just hang on, okay!" He grabbed the man by under the arms and pulled him out of the wreckage to safety.

The man had med it just in time. Shaun was only minutes away from hypothermia. "Thank you" He said with a weak voice.

Kaci saw it. Maybe she could act like a nice little AA girl and help. She made her way to them and was there in no time. "you guys ok?" she asked.

Shaun layed in the truck of Sam. "I need to get inside"

"This man's been injured." Sam told the girl who'd just arrived, taking off his coat and putting it on the man who was now sitting in his pick-up truck. "He'll die of hypothermia if we don't get him inside quick. There's a cabin about a mile from here." He quickly went to the driver's seat and started up his truck, ready to go. He turned back to the girl. "Coming? I could use your help."

"sure," she siad jumping in.

Shaun looked up at the girl. He hadn't seen her around, and he had been on Artica for a while.

Sam stepped on the gas. "Try to keep him warm." He told the girl as he sped down the paved road, though he couldn't go too fast due to the ice. "The name's Sam, by the way." He then introduced himself. "Samuel Foster. Self-certified escort around these parts." He continued to keep his eyes on the road, but spoke to the woman and man, mostly trying to get the man to talk and stay conscious. "So, what're your names?"

"Shaun Jackson, and thank you"

"I'm Kaci. Kaci Jones. I'm a watcher for Artica," she said.

"Ice miner, UNSC" Shaun said.

Sam couldn't help but grin at his responses. "Well, what do you know." He said. "A US Space Commander and an Alliance member, sitting in the same truck." It was all too obvious that's what the girl was, saying she was a Watcher. Luckily, they were almost at the cabin, it being in sight now from a distance.

"i don't like it but i also don't like watching people freeze to death," she said.

Shaun was shocked when he heard that Kaci was with the AA. "Tell me, have you heard of captain Curt Jackson?"

"yeah he is my boss," she said.
