Is anyone going to be participating in the NaNoWriMo this year?

Have you done it before?

Were you satisfied with what you were able to come up with?

I was thinking about doing it this year, but I'm not sure what kind of novel "quantity not quality" thinking will get me. It seems a bit odd, but fun and challenging at the same time. :3

I can't write, so I don't participate in NaNoWriMo. xD But I cheer on people that I know if they participate.

I could try... But I'm not optimistic, is there a junior one?

Wow, I've actually never heard of it before. I'm way too scared to give it a try, but it's definitely a challenge. I'll add this to my bucket list, see if I actually get the courage and determination to do it someday.

Despite my earlier comment... I'm actually considering doing this now. xD I just really feel like attempting this near-impossible feat.

@Pweep: Thanks! I'll be needing it. xD

@Poppy: National Novel Writing Month. Although I'm pretty sure it's more of an 'international' thing. ^^

I really wish I had the courage to do this, but I'm just not comfortable enough with my writing skills yet to be able to make myself write. I can only do so when my muse is in favor of me :gonk: One day, though, I swear I will! :XD

I found a junior one, and you can set your own word limit.

@Poppy: No problem. ^^

@Pweep: I'm not anywhere near confident myself, but it's not like anyone is going to see what you're writing if you don't want them to. So, I'm giving it a shot, although to be honest... My muse is as flighty as yours. xD

@Carzeebear: Oh? Where is this?

I like that it's quantity over quality. They don't care if the novel sucks, just as long as it's long enough. Seems like the anti-rule for writing, but I guess that makes it fun, right? :XD

While it's true that it certainly doesn't exactly encourage a standard of excellence, I think it's a great motivational tool, and it's good healthy(educational) fun. We need more things like NaNoWriMo, in my opinion.

Definitely. It's encouraging you to write, even if it sucks. You have to have something written before you can edit it, right? So once it's all completed for the length, you can go back and edit it for errors and such. Not the most traditional means, but it works!

True, true... Now I just have to figure out what the hell to write about. Dx

Also, fun fact: In order to reach the goal of 50,000 words, you'd have to write an average of 1,667 words per day. @.@

For some reason, that fact makes it all the more intimidating :sweat: I'm such a scaredy cat!

I just heard about this recently I'd like to try it, though I doubt I could get a novel finished within one months time. Though I'm going to try!

If you seriously want to give it a go, use Write or Die. It's a site that punishes you unless you are constantly typing. I tried it, just to play with it, and wow :XD It's a great motivational tool. I won't tell you the punishments...but wow. The basic use is free, but you can purchase and have access to more.

Good luck XD Make sure the volume of your computer is up high, otherwise it won't work. It scared the crap out of me. I like how customizable it is too. You can choose a gentle or harsh setting for punishment, as well as a couple seconds for a grace period between typing.

My fiance used to do this. He never did finish though... I think it's a good practice to try just write without constantly going back to edit yourself right away but at the same time I feel it's a bit much in such a short amount of time. It seems like more stress than fun in my opinion...

I briefly contemplated doing NaNo this year...however, I have been recently flooded with papers and will likely be in the same situation for a number of weeks yet (carrying into November and thus NaNo time), so it is unlikely that I will participate this year. If, on the off chance, I do give it a whirl, I doubt I shall make it to 50k words (though not for lack of trying of course!) ^.^;

To all of you who are participating this year, I wish you the best of luck and many muse filled days and evenings. <3

I'm doing NaNoWriMo this year. A friend of my girlfriend, has been doing it for years, and i had thought about doing it. But like a few people in this thread so far, i didn't have the courage to actually do it. (And no idea either...) This year, i have an idea for (what I think) will be a pretty cool story. Hopefully, this will help me hunker down, and really write on it. Unless my college class all of a sudden decides we need 7 page papers due, everyday. I'm reallllllllllllly excited. I doubt ill make the 50k words, but even if i got half-way there, i would feel accomplished.
