It's almost over. Just keep hiding and avoiding other nagas, and maybe he'll survive the 'season' that he lnew most Garter Nagas would be coming out of. Sheridan cursed silently as he slithered further and further away from his cave, his home, and into another cave that could possibly mask the stupid 'She-male' pheromones that he was emitting. Sheridan cursed once again, feeling his body heat up. Sheridan did NOT want to get beat up again just because he gave stupid male nagas 'false alarms' nor did he want to compensate them for it. Finding the midget waterfall Sheridan had found when exploring the forest one day, Sheridan plunged into it's chilly depths disappearing from sight.

Slithering further into the cave reaching the end wall of it, Sheridan coiled around himself to keep himself warm as well as blend into the darkness that the cave provided. Now hopefully Sheridan can hide out for a few more days before going back to what he usually did. Gathering and experimenting in medicine making. After all, Sheridan had managed to survive on his own. "Just a few more days. And this torture will be over!" Sheridan mumbled as he nestled himself into his coils. Once comfortable, Shierdan settled himself for a small nap, before moving on to another location.

Mating season was Alfie's least favorite time of year. Apparently, he smelled nice to female nagas--he supposed most males did. But oftentimes, they would find him even when he tried to hide himself, and he would have to politely explain that he didn't swing that way. Females were just as aggressive as males, and Alfie was not afraid to defend himself if one of them attacked. He'd already had to fight three different females in the course of four days.

He found that taking lots of baths and hiding in or on water seemed to mask the smell. So he spent most of his time during mating season by water or by waterfalls. Alfie had just come across a small waterfall, which he had smelled from a little less than a mile away. He proceeded to take a bath in the small waterfall's basin, where all of the water was flowing down into. He was hoping it would wash away the scent of pheromones on him...

As he was washing, he suddenly caught wind of a strong scent...a wonderful scent which made his mind start to wander. Fiercely, though, he shook off the haze that the delicious scent had tossed onto his mind. He wasn't ready for a mate...and this one smelled female, anyway...

With the scent being that strong, she had to be close. Concerned that he might have to fight once more, Alfie took in a deep breath and dove below the waterfall, coming up into the cave behind it. He was so distracted with trying to get away, and with the water he had accidentally inhaled underwater, that he didn't notice the scent was getting stronger and stronger as he slithered towards the back of the cave.

He did notice, though, that the cave was occupied the moment he reached the back wall of the cave. He froze where he was, completely still. A male...? And that scent again...was that scent coming from a male and not a female? Intrigued, Alfie's clay red eyes studied the other male...but he was ready to bolt if needed.

Sheridan truly enjoyed the dreamless nap that he had, truly he did. It's just too bad that there was a small spike in warmth in damp cool cave, which caused him to wake up tensed and alarmed. Annoyed at the fact that someone had discovered his, what he thought, good hiding spot, Sheridan loosened himself to flee quickly in case the intruder in the cave was bigger than him. But even if they were smaller he would take the option of fleeing than fighting as Sheridan usually did. Before Sheridan could do anything though, he needed to size his possible opponent up, and although voice can be deceiving, it was all he can go on since he was rather short sighted. But he wasn't going to let the intruder know that.

"GO AWAY!" Sheridan screamed not masking his voice as he usually did, opening one of his copper brown eyes to glare at the intruder. Sheridan knew the intruder was male, judging from the faint pheromones he was emitting. Now hopefully, when the male answer would be far too confused and so that Sheridan can make a run for it. Because to be quite frank, Sheridan was no shape to fight anyone at the moment. Besides, Sheridan is currently cringing at the thought of contact at the moment and a fight would only make it worst. His self-control he was proud of was slowly caving in on itself.

Seeing that the male wasn't moving, Sheridan took his chance and began fleeing, at speeds that Black Mambas were renowned for. Bounding out of the cave, the chill of the waterfall cooling his heated body a bit, Sheridan knew he couldn't go to his home, feeling it too risky. So he quickly decided to climb up a tree, since he knew most nagas can't get up there. Bounding up there, wrapping his tail tightly around the trunk of the tree, his arms grabbing thick tree branch, lugging his heavy self unto the branch to lounge.

Panting from fleeing and the heavy exercise of climbing the tree, Sheridan made a mental note to himself. "Need... to... exercise more." Panting the words out, Sheridan was sweating from the words, coiling his tail around the branch to prevent himself from falling. Looking down, Sheridan smile a tired smile when he saw no sign of the male intruder from the waterfall cave. Not only that, he found a good branch that has good access to sunlight, so he could warm himself here. Folding is arms in front of himself, Sheridan began lounging onto them, taking a much needed break from the retreat.

Alfie was more than startled by the scream that burst forth from the other male. So startled, in fact, that he backed up several inches and then pressed himself against the nearest part of the cave's wall. He was in too much of a shocked state to flee--he was frozen where he was. Was this male really getting so aggressive over a simple mistake like this? Sheesh, he only wanted to hide...he had no way of knowing the cave was occupied...

The rattle-less rattlesnake didn't even have much time to react as the darker-colored, bigger male made his way past him at a blinding speed. Alfie was shaken, and for a minute or so, he couldn't move. When he finally did work up the desire to move, he also made his way out of the cave...albeit, a bit more slowly. It took him a while to make his way back out of the cave, and he took another short dip in the water once he breached the waterfall. Poking his head up above the surface of the water, Alfie paused and then sniffed the air again.

...That scent again. It was really strong...it had to have been coming from that male, strangely as it sounded. Why would a male smell like that? With the other smelling like that, it was actually easy for Alfie to realize that he hadn't gone far. Rather, he'd gone up. He was probably lounging up in one of the nearby trees. The reddish naga just couldn't see him.

"...Hey," Alfie called, simply. "Can't see you, but I can smell you. You didn't have to holler at me like that. I'm not looking for a mate, if that's what you're thinking."
