Alexander had hoped this day would never come. A marriage was the very last thing that would have crossed his mind at this very moment in his life. He didn't need this, but it seems the Queen did favor some of the men, who had wives better than the ones that did not. That was mainly for the fact that their wives had a certain bond with the Queen that was beyond him, but who was to say that this girl standing before me could build such a bond. She wasn't even their eldest daughter at that. That's what he got for not marrying younger his closest servant had told him. Now that he was standing before her being married it was not what he wanted. The priest continued on and on for what seemed like a life time and all he could do was stare down at this girl before him. 'When will this ever end?' He thought to himself. He did not wish to be here and after all this was over he would have to present his....new wife to the Queen and hope that she would accept her. It would be shameful to bring his new wife to see her being thrown from the Queen's favor the first day. When the time came he re-sighted his vows perfectly. The moment he dreaded the most was coming. His heart beat was frantic as if it knew that his legs wanted nothing more than to run from this place. The moment came as if it was a nightmare playing for the thousandth time and the priest pronounced them man and wife.

Ella had arrived at court about a week ago and she was already helplessly lost among the older women and even some of the younger ones. Her father had sent her off without some much of as a word to her. It was disgraceful for her, but it was her long awaited chance to be free. At least that was what she had thought when she had left her home. Now that she was in Court it was more like a bigger prison with a heavier price if she failed. She didn't know how she was going to manage being a Lady-in-Waiting to the Queen. All the events that she had been attending with the Queen was delightful, but she longed just to be free of any duty. The Queen demanded everything from her and she could only give some much. Ella was relieved to hear that today she would be attending a ceremony to present the title of a Knight to a young man. This would mean very little work for her for a little while. All she really had to do was stand and wait, looking pretty the whole time. That she could do very well now. She had a simple gown on so that the spot light would be on the Queen and the young man she was presenting the honor with.

Conrad was standing in the hallway outside the Great Hall, he would wait until he was announced before proceeding and kneeling down before the Queen, this was it. This was the day he would become a knight. He hoped that nothing would ruin it. He paced back and forth while waiting, he wore all white (As was tradition). Once he was knighted he would be given his armor and sword, he had prepared for this day.
Finally he heard the chatter quiet down and the Queen start to speak, she would give an opening speech, mention why they were all there, then she would speak his name and he would enter. When he heard his name called his stomach clenched, but he did not hesitate or falter, he pushed the doors open and approached the Queen, then he kneeled before her. The Queen spoke some more, mentioning how Conrad had proven himself worthy to be a Knight, how he should consider this an honour.
Then she unsheated the blade, and tapped him, as was tradition, "Now rise, Sir Wells."
Conrad slowly rose, then he looked at the Queen and smiled lightly.

Elongwy fought back the tears that threatened to break through, for some reason, she was to marry this duke, none of her other sisters... But her.. She had never met him up until this ceremony, and she was supposedly to be introduced to the Queen. What if she was rejected? What if she angered her husband to be? She could only hope that she did not mess up.
Her voice broke a little when she recited her vows, a sign that she was truly unhappy. Then that dreaded moment, they were now husband and wife. This was it, whatever freedoms she had before.. She could wave them good-bye. Elongwy was now this man's servant and toy.
As they took hands to walk out her hands were shaking uncontrollably, afraid of what was to come..

Ella watched as the man enter into the chamber wearing all white. The Queen gave her speech and continued on about how this young man deserved the title of a 'Knight'. It was all really boring, but she had to stand there and seem somewhat interested in the ceremony happening before her. Once the Queen unsheathed her sword and tapped him on the shoulder and said his name there was a small applause from the few people, who had come to watch. Ella lightly clapped with the rest, but to she truly had not been paying much attention and was shaken from her day dreaming once the clapping began. One of the older Ladies-in-Waiting had told her before she attended the event that after the main ceremony the newly appointed Knight may give a show of his strengths and if he choose to do so outside she would need to accompany the Queen outside and make sure that she had everything she needed to be comfortable outside in the heat of summer. Ella had sighed at that because she had witnessed a moment when a few Ladies-in-Waiting had been caught off guard taking the Queen out and they had spent a great deal of time running around for things she demanded.

Alexander's smile had faltered when the girl's voice broke while she recited her vows. This girl was going to ruin him. She couldn't even control herself here, how was she ever suppose to speak in front of the Queen? He didn't know whether to be happy about being able to leave or in an absolute rage that now he had to present this girl. Her hands were shaking in his and all he could do was tighten his grip on her hand to keep it from showing to the people, who might be watching. "Calm down, girl." He whispered harshly under his breath to warn her others were watching. The last he needed was word making it back to the Queen before he even got there that he had married a little girl unable to control her simple actions. His servants had the horses ready so they could ride the castle. It would be a few days before they could make there, but he planned on riding as much as he could to get there. He led the girl to the horse they had brought for her and offered to help her on to the horse. "My lady?" He said as politely as he could manage at the moment, which was not very polite at all.

Conrad smirked, then he glanced around at some people in the room, many had not come true... But it did not matter, he was still filled with a feeling of elation, "If you kind people would not mind, I wish to escort you out to the Courtyard where I may join my companions in a friendly duel." His voice was strong and pleasant sounding, he certainly could capture an audience's attention if he wished too. He walked out of the Great Hall, with people following behind, and led the to the Courtyard, where another Knight was waiting with his sword and armor on.

Elongwy winced when the Duke nearly scolded her for being so nervous. She tried to calm herself by taking a few deep breaths, now she would have to go and meet the Queen with her new husband... What joy... Elongwy saw the horses and then saw that he had offered to help her up, she gave a polite shake of her head and managed to get on the horse on her own, sidesaddle of course, though she also knew how to ride the way that men did. Then she waited for him to get on his horse and lead the way

Ella nearly fainted when she heard him say he wanted them to go outside. She was doomed and there was not another Lady-in-Waiting to help her. She was in a paniked state as she hurried over to the Queen. "Is there anything I may help you with, Your Majesty." She said softly not giving her eye contact. She had learned that one the hard way the first day and she would not make the same mistake twice. The Queen waved her off with a hand and Ella just fell into step behind her. Maybe she was going to get lucky and the Queen wouldn't wish for anything this evening. That had to be it. Ella followed the man out and stood next to the Queen underneath one of her tents that hid her from the sun. She looked out at the field and wondered what type of sight she was going to see, but she always stole a few glances at the Queen to make sure she was alright.

Alexander dropped his hand once she denied his help and walked away. He didn't care whether his face showed his disgust or not. If she didn't wish for help then that was exactly how it would be on this long trip. He pulled himself on to his horse and off they were. He didn't look back to see if anyone was following and all he could think of was how to introduce that girl to the Queen. Maybe he could claim she merely died on the way here and send her off to one of his many castles. If only it was so easy. He let out a small chuckle, but continued his ride.

Elongwy watched as he took off, thinking of what a pompous jerk he appeared to be so far. You could have manners, bt if you didn't treat people with common courtesy... Then you were nothing in Elongwy's book. She kept up with the man easily, glad for the silence, if she ever needed to she could always poison him to get out of the marriage. Her mind wandered over the trip, she wished that she was with someone else or somewhere else.

Conrad unsheathed his new sword and faced the other Knight, who followed his gesture. The two approached each other and touched blades, there was a moment of silence and tension in the air. Then they pulled their blades back and started to strike at each other, each one defending and attacking with skill and strength. Conrad kept a smirk on his face the whole time, not a cocky one, but one that appeared to be saying he was having fun

As they began to ride further Alexander noticed that his breathing was becoming raged and he was sweating more and more as they went further. He cursed himself under his breath, but it led to a coughing fit that only ended after he nearly coughed up a lung. He straighten himself and turned to one of his servants to ask where the nearest town was. The servant told him it was a few miles away and that led to another curse. He needed to rest now or he would be in no shape to face the Queen. His health had been perfect up until now and it picked a horrible time to show him that his illnesses from birth were in fact not gone. He spurred his horse on, but at the slightest bump he would begin coughing. He was ready to give up and halt the party when he spotted the town in the distance. It looked like he was saved after all, but if they stopped for a long period of time he would face being late to see the Queen.

The swords of the two men could be heard clearly. It was harsh sound, but she liked the ring. It was like they were somehow making music and dancing at the same time. She couldn't help, but smile as the duel moved on. She wished that she herself could try what they were doing, but that very thought would condemn her if she spoke it aloud. She looked back down at the Queen and noticed she was having a good time as well. It did look like she was going to get away with doing almost nothing for the Queen out here. Ella turned her attention back to the two men wanting to see what was going to happen next.

Elongwy heard Alexander's coughing, but there was nothing she could do about it, he insisted that they kept going even though it sounded like he would have a heart attack any second. Even though Elongwy didn't like the man, she felt a small twinge of pity for him, those coughs sounded like they hurt. When she small the town she glanced at Alexander, "Sir? Would you like to rest for a bit before we continue on?" She suggested kindly, hoping she did not overstep her boundries already.

Conrad continued to strike at his opponent, getting very powerful attacks in. He clearly did deserve the title of Knight, and he was not only strong, but he was agile too. He managed to do slide between his opponents open legs to try and attack his back, then he did some twists that one would miss if they blinked, overall it was a rather impressive show that everyone in the audience was enjoying

Alexander looked over at the girl and winced as another cough clawed at his throat. "We will stop long enough to gather the supplies we did not pack then we will be back on the road." He said trying not to cough, but it came at a price and his voice was rough as he spoke. He spurred his horse to move faster wanting nothing more than to be off the beast and on the ground. When he entered the town he jumped off the horse and into one of the shops. He was hoping the girl wouldn't follow him because at this point he was coughing harder than he had before. He finally calmed him self and walked up to the counter to order the non-existent supplies they needed. He had ordered everything and more so that it did not seem he was of any lower class when he arrived at the castle.

Ella was rather impressed with the show being put on before her. This was much better than the normal tasks of a Lady-in-Waiting and she would give almost anything to just sit here and watch these two men go at it all day. The man, who was just recently Knighted, did a few tricks that Ella could barely keep up with and she clapped delightfully as he did so. She looked over at the Queen to make sure she hadn't stepped to far over the boundaries, but the Queen was clapping as well. She smiled and continued her clapping, but the Queen soon lifted her hand to signal the end of their duel. Ella was sad to see it end so early, but she knew the Queen had else where to be today and could not stay here forever.

Elongwy didn't follow, instead she gave on of her servants two water sacks and told him to go fill them, which he quickly obliged. As he did so Elongwy thought, her family had given her to a man that was obviously unhealthy.. Any future children they had faced the same risk... Brilliant.
She thanked the servant when he came back and continued to wait for Alexander.

Conrad was a little peeved when the Queen ended the duel for him, no matter. She was like that with everybody. He and his dueling partner turned and bowed to the crowd, then sheathed their swords and shook hands. Conrad glanced at the lady next to the Queen and smirked at her

Alexander walked out of the shop to watch the supplies be loaded. He didn't want anything to be placed wrong when arriving a court. He was finally feeling back to normal, but he knew that it was just around the corner and anything could bring it back to the surface. He decided not to think of it and just decided to act as if it hadn't happened. There was no need to let anyone in this town know he was ill. He walked over to the men that were loading things and began to help place things in their proper places. Once they were finished he pulled out a coin for each of them and placed it in their hands after thanking them for their help. "Shall we go?" He asked the girl once he was finished with everything else.

Ella watched the men as they bowed to the small crowd and shook hands with each other. She wasn't expecting the Knight to give her such a smile and she reached up to cover her mouth as she giggled. 'This truly is better than my ordinary duties.' She thought to herself. Ella turned to the Queen when she heard her light cough. She bowed to her and quickly apologized for her behavior. The Queen merely told her that she needed to be more lady like than a child and with that she got up and began to walk away. Ella stole a glance back at the man, Sir Wells, is what she thought his name was. Ella waved at him and ran off after the Queen, not wanting to be scolded for not being there when she needed something.

The servant returned with the canteens of water and handed them to Elongwy, she thanked the man and then waited for Alexander to come out. She stayed on the horse as he and some other men packed up their supplies. She looked at the man and nodded, "Yes." She told him.

Conrad smirked at her reaction and watched as she left with the Queen, he hoped that he would see her around more often, she was rather handsome woman that was for sure. He left to go and attend to his new duties

The sun was bright and high above them as they traveled through the afternoon. Alexander felt almost one-hundred percent better than he had only a few hours ago, but that was normal. It was like a phantom illness that only showed it's self once in a while. He had been to many doctors, but none had a real answer or cure to his illness. Some were foolish enough to tell him it would go away on it's own. After about twenty-five years he thought that it was a lost cause now. Alexander sighed and held up a hand to guard his eyes from the sun looking for any sign of another town, but it was all country side and there were farmers and their wifes out in there fields. In some places you could hear children laughing. It seemed like such a simple life, but one with no luxury and without luxury there seemed to be nothing.

The Queen returned to her Privy Chamber and the rest of the Ladies-in-Waiting were there working on some type work. When we arrived back the Queen went to change out of her clothes and into another set and one of the older Ladies went to help her. Ella hadn't been there long enough to be able to help her change. When the Queen left a group of girls came running over to ask how it was. They wanted to know if she made me cry or if she embarrassed me in front everyone, but I told them that she did not demand anything of me. The girls lost interest and went back to there other tasks just in time for the Queen's entrance. She went to sit in her chair, but a few minutes after she had sat down she called me over. She wanted me to take her dogs for a walk. Ella wasn't able to refuse even though she hated those beast. She took the dogs out to the garden and strolled around enjoying the little break.

Conrad's job was to patrol, and that was exactly what he did. He was near the gardens when his ears picked up the sound of barking, he looked over and saw the girl from earlier walking some dogs. What a pitiful job it was, to care for the Queen.. He sighed softly and pondered on whether or not he should stroll by her. Deciding there was no harm from it, he continued his patrol, this time closer to the girl.

Elongwy was glad that she did not have to hear Alexander's coughing for the time being, what an odd illness he appeared to have. No matter, nothing she could do about it. Except for when he started one of his coughing fits again she would give him the canteen of water that she had a servant collect.
She couldn't helped but be soothed by the sights of the simple farmers and their children, though they had none of the luxuries that she did, they somehow managed to go through the day with a smile on their face and a spring in her step. It didn't disgust her, it fascinated her if anything.

Ella didn't like walking the dogs, but the chance to escape the Queen's eye was something she would jump at in a heart beat. It wasn't that the Queen was a bad person to be around; she just demanded everything and anything on a whim. The little dogs barked as she walked them down the path, but kept trying to get behind her and it was becoming annoying. "What are you barking at?" She scolded the dog as she turned around to see what the problem was. "Oh, It's you!" She said without thinking. She raised her hand to her mouth for making such an out burst, but then just laughed. She wiped the tears from her pale blue eyes and smiled at him. "I am deeply sorry about that. You gave me quite a scare." She said. She wasn't expecting to see Sir Wells so soon.

The country side was becoming boring to Alexander. All he wished was to be back in his home and among the rest of the Court. Although the thought of having to introduce his new wife was not one of the things he looked forward to. He had ordered a gown for the girl to wear in front of the Queen with his family colors decorating it. It would be a grand gown, but not too grand as to over shine the Queen. That would mean a certain trip to the tower for him. men had been sent there for far less. The gown should have been ready by now and all that was left was for him to go and retrieve it from the tailor. The sun was making its way down and soon they would be needing to find a town to sleep in. He looked over his shoulder at the girl on her horse and saw that she was enjoying herself out here. 'Well, at least someone is.' He thought to himself. He was not enjoying any of this at the moment. Once he saw the gates of the castle then he would relax. He turned his gaze back to the path before him.

Conrad chuckled at her reaction, "Hello M'Lady, pardon me for I did not mean to frighten you." He told her with a charming smile. There was a certain twinkle in his eye that could make any girl feel like there were no troubles in the world, "Are you walking Her Majesties dogs?"

Elongwy gave a soft sigh, she would have to start thinking about what she would say to the Queen, if she was allowed to speak.. She did not look forward to the meeting with the Queen... But it did not matter, nothing mattered. She started to play different scenarios in her mind of how she would present herself in front of the Queen

Ella smiled at him and looked down at the dogs below her. Her smile turned to a frown as she looked at them, but she quickly hid it behind her court smile. She had learn the first few days to always mask her frowns with a fake smile. "Yes I am, but they are giving me some trouble. They wish to run every which way and pull me with them. I fear that I may fall if they pull me too much." She replied with a smile of her own. Sir Wells seemed charming enough, but almost all the men she had meet at Court were charming in their own way. The only thing was that they were all fake and nothing was real here.

The rest of the day seemed to drag on forever and it didn't help that he had no one, but his servants to talk to. The girl just didn't seem like an option to him so he wasn't going to bother with it. The next town only came into view once the sun was beginning to set and Alexander spurred his horse forward and into the town. There was only one inn in the town and he stopped in front of it and dismounted from his horse. He held the reins out to one of the servants. He took off his riding gloves and placed them on the horse and walked back to the girl. "Would you some help dismounting, My lady?" He said offering once again, but he wasn't expecting her to say yes. He was ready to leave when he was denied.

Elongwy felt sore for riding all day and she was glad when she saw that they were going to stop for the night. She glanced at Alexander when he offered her help again, she was surprised but did not show it. She was sure that she would fall or stumble if she tried to get off herself, "If you do not mind, Milord." She told him with a polite smile as she offered her hand.

Conrad glanced down at the dogs, "Give their ropes a tug whenever they pull, and eventually they will learn to obey you." He offered. She didn't seem snobby like the other ladies-in-waiting, but who knows? Maybe he had overstepped himself by trying to offer her some advice

Alexander's eyes widened at her when she accepted his help. He took her hand and gently grabbed her waist and pulled her down from the horse. He placed her on the ground and stepped away pulling his hand with him. "I will arrange for the rooms." He said as he lightly bowed and began to walk away. That was a surprise to say the least. He found his way into the inn and to the desk. He wasn't going to share a room with that girl. They may have just been married, but he would not conceive his child in some filthy inn. He was able to get a few rooms, but some of the servants would have to sleep outside. He was got the keys to the rooms and waited for the girl to find her way in.

"I doubt these would obey anyone just like their master." She whispered under her breath. They must have been spoiled beyond belief just like the Queen. She looked up at Sir Wells and smiled at him. "I will be sure to do so next time they give me trouble. I do not believe I introduced myself, forgive me. I am Ella Burette." She said as she curtsied to him.

Elongwy found her footing easily and she thanked Alexander. A bed and a chance to stretch out sounded amazing at the moment, she hoped that she and Alexander would not share a bed though, for she was far too tired and sore. Deciding to listen in to see if they would be sharing the same bed she walked inside the Inn, she waited by the door to await what he would say.

Conrad nodded, then he smiled, "It's a pleasure to meet you." He gave a bow, "I am Conrad Wells.." He straightened and then said, "I saw you at my ceremony, I hoped you enjoyed the duel."

Alexander turned around to find the girl standing at the door waiting. He walked over to her and held out one of the keys he had been given. "Your room is the first room on the left on the second floor." He gave her the key and left through the door beside her to give the servants their key. He found them hard a work unloading some of their things and putting the horses in stables. He gave one of the older servants the key and decided to stay and help with putting things away before returning to his own bed for the night.

"And I saw you as well, Sir Wells." She gave him a soft smile. "It was a delightful duel to watch. I enjoyed myself. Will you be competing in some of the events in this years festivals?" She asked. She would have loved to see him fight again. It wasn't everyday that she was able to watch something she enjoyed and not what the Queen enjoyed.

Conrad pondered for a moment before answering, "Well.. I suppose, since you enjoyed my duel that that gives me enough incentive to enter. So yes, I will be entering in some competitions. I'm sure you'll be ther with the Queen watching."

Elongwy took the key and then had her servants carry her stuff up to her room with her. She opened the door, it wasn't impressive. A small bed with a vanity and a table in the corner, but it was cozy and it would due.
Her servants helped her to change out of her gown and into her nightgown. Then she excused them and let her hair down for the night
