One of the antagonists the protagonists have to get past in an ancient castle somewhere, as a secret side-quest.

The main antagonist's right-hand man. You're smarter and stronger than he is, and at the right time, you stage a coup and take his place.

The silent, wise, mysterious character, who turns out to be much more important than she seems at the beginning.

The mage-warrior belonging to a village in the forest that the party meets later in the story, who joins the party because their search is related to what she's seeking to protect/learn about.

I could see you as a woodland sprite! :D

You're a creepy boss near the beginning the game. I think you're connected to one of the big bads, so you'll probably show up again later in the story. You think messing with the protagonists is too much fun to be able to leave them alone!

The NPC that no one really knows a lot about. Though you generally try to take the more honorable and truthful route, you have your own agenda and are not afraid to switch sides to accomplish it. Not exactly an antagonist, not exactly a protagonist. :D Most likely an optional character that the player can recruit.

The protagonists cute little sister... who turns out to be the evil mastermind behind the entire plot!

I would say you are the mysterious general of an army. Your sword skills are above all. And while people think that you're full of yourself for how you carry yourself, it's more that you prefer to speak when needed. You value actions over words.

The wise queen who unfortunately cannot leave her duties in the castle, but loves to interact with her subjects and employees directly. In a game, you'd be a main quest giving NPC.

The best friend of the protagonist and a party member, the one that always backs the player up, even when no one else bothers to stay. X3 You always try to see the glass half full and cheer up the other characters when they're feeling down.

I would actually say the same about you, CADFND. xD Except to add, you'd probably be the character that's weak in the beginning so gets dumped as soon as there's a new party member to fill your spot, but if someone actually sticks it out and levels with you they'll find that your later abilities are actually quite amazing and useful, and you'd become an essential member of the active party.

The semi random, very bouncy, character who fixes things, but somehow manages to fall down holes a lot.

A very popular vampire dance girl working at a night club, whom the protagonists need to win a mini game of dodging the swarming fans for 30 seconds and reach her amidst the mass before she will talk to you.

The main antagonist in the game, whom the player finds out has been possessed/brainwashed/mislead in the 'final' confrontation-- only to have to fight the thing that's been controlling you!

You're a helper character that travels with the group to fix things when needed. If you have to fight, you get you're strength from the power of the moon.

I would say the helper character that shows up in the nick of time to give the character advice, or give them some item that could help them in the future.

The guardian guarding the gateway into heaven. You have to either convince her of your good intentions or defeat her, depending on your fame/infamy.

The pirate who only travels by moonlight, drinks nearly constantly, and flirts with the player (if female) or flirts with the character's girl-next-door type childhood friend love interest. Is actually gay, and has a heart of gold, but likes to play around. Either an just escort character or also a party character.

The "gunner" character in the kitschy sci-fi themed RPG game. Her attacks are always more powerful during the crescent moon phases (which you can see in the background of each battle screen and affects each character - so you always have a reason to level up characters you don't like as much, because during certain phases of the moon, they're more useful than your favorites!)

The shadow character that hunts the main character (at the end of the game though the hero defeats the shadow feened and saves the day.)

She would be the goddess that plays the part of omnipotent helper when she is most needed.
