Not sure what you mean by "percentiles". Could you explain that a little?

I looked at the pricing average and I'll see what that ends up permitting. Rangers though I read wear light armor.
So I found the part where it mentions improving bows to which you can make them deal more damage:
Quote:
Longbow, Composite:
You need at least two hands to use a bow,
regardless of its size. You can use a composite longbow while
mounted. Composite bows are made from laminated horn, wood, or
bone and built with a recurve, meaning that the bow remains bow-
shaped even when unstrung. All composite bows are made with a
particular strength rating (that is, each requires a minimum
Strength modifier to use with proficiency). If your Strength bonus is
less than the strength rating of the composite bow, you can’t
effectively use it, so you take a –2 penalty on attacks with it. The
default composite longbow requires a Strength modifier of +0 or
higher to use with proficiency. A composite longbow can be made
with a high strength rating (representing an especially heavy pull) to
take advantage of an above-average Strength score; this feature
allows you to add your Strength bonus to damage, up to the
maximum bonus indicated for the bow. Each point of Strength
bonus granted by the bow adds 100 gp to its cost. For instance, a
composite longbow (+1 Str bonus) costs 200 gp, while a composite
longbow (+4 Str bonus) costs 500 gp.
They're very expensive but definitely an incredible investment later on. If I change my stats around to get 16 str, I can get a +3 composite bow in the future and get a +3 to all damage rolls with my bow.

What book is that from? Do you know?

nevermind i found it in like 3 seconds. I've never used that rule before or seen it used. i had no idea! But very cool :]

percentiles = d100.

That's from the link you sent me. Player's Handbook. Been reading it as I make my char

So of equipment and such, assuming there is a limit to gold used, how do I determine what I get? Should I roll for starting gold and such? I think currently equipment is all I have left to figure out. I don't know if I'll do a backstory.

Well like I said. basically list out your adventure gear with guessing around 15gp that you'd have to spend. (technically its more than rangers would start with)
and you get one melee item, and one ranged.
and one armor.

Stuff that'd be over the gold amount that you think you still want let me know and i'll judge if maybe you'd have gotten it by now from past adventuring . hmmm i think I'm missing something....

but not sure what. . .

For a weapon, Composite Longbow and 40 arrows is ideal. For armor, Leather Armor is ideal, plus a pair of gloves (I've had injuries because my char didn't have gloves using a bow). For my ideal melee would be a light shield and rapier.
Backpack, bedroll, blanket, fishhook x5, pot, flint and steel, days ration, torch x3, waterskin, rope-hempen x2, grappling hook.

Kind-of improvising a bit on what to bring. I'm not sure how I would get a fishing pole as it seems not to be an option.
Could I possibly get an opinion on this set-up. I may have selected too many things in general o.o
Thinking a lot on "this is a support class" more than "this is a combat class" when considering supplies.

sounds good to me honestly. I think the rope are 50feet long each. and for the fishing pole I believe its basically get a stick and put some string on it with the fishhook tied to it? but you're right. I don't think there are fishing poles, not in modern sense at least. I'm sure I could say you have a decent crafted one at least .

I'd double check prices and weights on it for you (i'm pretty sure that's all very in range if memory serves me) But i'm still fighting my toddlers to get to sleep.. for the past 3 hours.

If you wanted, as GM you could add fishing poles as a sellable item. Or I could simply go find a stick, use one of my 2 ropes, and create a string for my fishing pole and make one. That was the main reason for the second rope anyways, to dismantle it into string.

Oh dear... toddler wont sleep? Aww

Wow... I hope you're doing alright after that. Any time to rest?

Looking around, it seems they were just a thread on a stick for a long time according to drawings. Not much information is being given...
Perhaps I should take a net as well and use it for fishing instead of combat?

nets can be used for combat? xD my brain is not processing that other than like... trapping someone /making it hard for them to attack or move. I'd say something with a basic reel would be fine to exist in this world, as would a fishing net. (like the ones on the sticks)

and no. I've been moving non stop since 7 am...

It's where they are shown in the book, as a ranged weapon

Aww hope you get to rest soon.

Okay simple fishing reel, and a net to add to my belongings? What would be something to compare the value of the fishing rod to?

Make me take my book out why don't you? *spends all the effort to reach 2 feet to the right* UGH.

do you want a fishing net, or the barbed trapping one (which is 20gp)
a fishing pole with a very basic reel attachment would be practically a quarterstaff if not even cheaper cause they wouldn't need to do much to the wood to make it fancy unless it was a fancier one. i'd say you could get one for 5 gp likely. and it'd only be 5gp just for the uhhh.. mechanics? instrumnents? oh goodness i've forgotten what they're called the bits and bobs that turn it into an actual fishing pole.

Definitely a regular fishing net. At the very least I could probably still throw it and trip something, or us it for live trapping?
I think you're thinking of the reel? The gears and such?

and you may reroll the 1 again, btw you guys can do a merger post to reroll or "edit: new dice roll" automatically. you don't have to wait for me for the stats.
but oh look at that you don't have to reroll cause you got a pretty 18.

roll 3rd stat please. ^^
