In the 1960's man named Mark Gilligan owned a Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a very honest man, and the customers loved his attitude. Each night, more and more people would come to his casino, hoping to score rich. That was, until a boy came to his casino. The boy's name was Idox Marle. He stood at five feet, and could not have been over eight. When he was told to leave by security, he told the guards that he had a proposition for Gilligan, and needed to speak with him immediately.

However, the boy was turned away, and Mark Gilligan's casino was robbed the same day and time the next year. Not only was the casino pilfered, but everyone inside was killed A note and a picture were found on Mark's corpse. The picture was of a Jack and Ace of Spades. The note read as follows:

'Jack Gilligan:

You live up to the illusion of being an honest man, but you are cold. Merely for my age, your guards turned me away. I can only tell you this: I am coming for the Black Jack and the Ace of Spades. You have until 8:43 PM on March 24, 1964 to leave them in an unmarked envelope at 343 South Lane. Come alone. Do not dispose of the cards otherwise. The consequences for you would be all too drastic.

Yours painfully,
Idox Marle'

The strange thing is not that everyone in the casino was found dead. The strange thing is that none of them had been physically harmed. They were simply dead. The security cameras had all been placed on a loop. No one had been seen entering or exiting the casino that day, other than the usual patrons.

Now the questions remain:
Who is Idox Marle?
What are the significance of the cards?
Why was everyone killed?
How were they killed?

Can you figure it out?

And to start everyone off:

Idox leaned back in his chair, smirking and chuckling to himself. He put his feet up on the mahogany desk, and looked around in the dim light of the dusty room. He pulled a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket, and lit one, a strange thing for a nine year old to do. He inhaled on it deeply, recalling the events of the day. It really had been to easy. Flipping open the cigarette pack again, he slid out what was behind it. Two cards, seemingly ordinary. One card was a Jack, but it had no suit. All that it seemed to be was a silhouette on a card, with a J in two of the four corners. The other was an ace of spades, with an angel leaning on one side of the ace, and a devil leaning on the other. Idox slid them back into the pack. "It was too easy," he said to himself. "He might has well have put up a welcome mat."

Jack frowned as he walked down the street, curling his shoulders in to avoid getting rained on. It was cold; too cold to be out, but ever since that casino thing had happened it was the only one who still let in non-regulars. And that was the only casino he was a regular at.

He reached the door and stood under the awning, flicking his lighter on and lighting a cigarette, exhaling deeply before tossing it to the ground and opening the door.

Alice started off for her job after taking a smoking break outside in a local ally. She cam back in and snuffed out her cigarrette as she began to work. Tables needed to be seated at and she had to do her job. Weather she liked it or not.

Idox smiled, tucking away the packet of cigarettes in his coat pocket. Inhaling on the cigarette yet again, he recalled the details from the night. Getting up from his chair and walking out of the room, he snapped to the guard. The guard understood this sign as Idox wanting to go out. He ran to the umbrella stand and grabbed an umbrella, and held it over Idox's head as he let the boy crawl into the back seat of a luxurious limousine. The vehicle seemed out of place in front of a rundown building. The guard, Johnson, got into the driver seat and gently closed the door. "Where to, sir?" he asked politely.
"I feel like taking a chance."
Johnson chuckled. His employer enjoyed speaking in riddles. "To the Alamo, then?"
"I shouldn't have to tell you twice."

Johnson started the car and sped off down the highway, the windshield wipers slowly moving back and forth in hypnotic rhythm. The car turned a corner and sped down the strip. The limousine pulled in front of a splendorous casino, the Alamo. Turning off the car and handing the keys to the valet, he again held the umbrella for Idox.

Idox sighed. "I'm hungry, Johnson. I think I'll eat my fill before gambling."
"Excellent, sir."
Idox, with his guard standing behind him, walked into the restaurant section of the casino. He sat down in the leather booth, and Johnson took the seat opposite him as the two waited for their server.

"Looks like some customers," Alice mummbled to herself as she saw a man with a young boy sit down at one of the booths. She walked up to the table, with a pad and pencil in hand.

"What will you two be having tonight?" she asked as she stroked her hair out of her face with her black and red painted nails.

Idox looked at the waitress. "Bring me anything," he said, smiling. "Surprise me." Johnson laughed. "I won't have anything, thanks."

Not seeming to care at all that they were in a public place and how illegal it was for him to do so, Idox lit another cigarette and inhaled on it. "And bring my a glass of your best red wine."

Just then, alice was about to tell him to not smoke inside but something about him just made her stop.

"I'll be back with your order!" She replied as she walked off.

Moments later she came back with a plate of spagetti and a glass of the best wine in the house.

"Here you go, sir" Alice began "The spagetti is the chefs speciality and this wine was imported straitght from Italy!" She then gave the smile of good service to the boy. "Will you be needing anything else?"

"No, that will be all," Idox said, pulling out his wallet. "I don't particularly care how much this meal is, so I'm going to assume it's this much with the tip, and we'll leave it at that." He pulled $300 in cash out of his wallet and handed it to the waitress. "Have a nice evening," he said, with a cold smile.

Alice held the cash within her hand with shock in her eye's that quickly turned to deviance as she walked away.

"Man! I should suggest killing this kid!" she joked to herself. "But that's not me!" She then looked down at the cash and looked back at the kid. "This kid... he's something alright... I better keep an eye out for him"

Johnson sighed once the girl had left. "You make yourself noticed, sir."
"Whatever do you mean?"
"Smoking in public, drinking in public, handing out vast amounts of cash. No normal nine-year-old does those things."
"But I'm far from normal, Johnson."
Johnson laughed as Idox began eating, gently sipping the wine between bites. "The wine is a 2004 Pinot Noir, I'm guessing from Edna Valley," he said, softly. "Very nice, but not the best wine there is."

He finished his meal, leaving his plate spotless, and walked over to the casino section. Namely, the VIP section. A table of men ranging from their 20s to their 60s was in the room, the men joking around. Idox cleared his throat. "Good evening, gentlemen," he said with a smile. Everyone greeted him, but they all looked nervous now. People seemed to walk away with their pockets a little emptier when Idox played. The gentlemen at the table were the regulars. Tom with the annoying habit of flipping his hair, Jack who was balding and wore a hat to cover it, Tony who was the head of a local gang, and Phil who was a gambling addict. Although Idox was winning at first, it seemed Tom was doing increasingly well. Idox said nothing, but was panicking inside. Why am I losing? he thought desperately. Until he focused more on Tom. Tom flipped his hair, and in his ear could be seen a small ear piece. Idox chuckled. "Tom?" he asked with a smile.
"What, Idox? A bit miffed that you're losing?"
"No, Tom," Idox said with a sigh. "A bit miffed that you're cheating."
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"Your ridiculous habit of flipping your hair was your own demise, you fool. I saw the ear piece in your ear, and it's obvious that the dealer who has been standing behind me a bit too close has been quietly telling you my hand. You know when to fold, when to go high, and when I'm bluffing."
"You're nuts."
"No, you incompetent fool!" Idox shouted, jumping on the table. "You're nuts for thinking you could get away with it." Idox drew his gun, cocked it, and jammed it in under the man's chin. "Say I won't do it," Idox said, the anger showing in his eyes. "I dare you."

Johnson looked over to see the waitress who had served them standing there. "If I were you, I wouldn't say anything right now. Getting in his way when he's angry is not a good idea."

Idox was enraged. Tom was sobbing. "It's pathetic, Tom," Idox said, evilly. "A nine year old boy has brought you to tears."
"You're not a boy," gasped Tom. "You're a demon."
"What a lovely sentiment," Idox hissed. "Lovely, but a clear mistake." Idox raised his arm and brought the side of the gun across Tom's face, causing him to fall to the floor. He jumped full force onto the fallen man's stomach, landing feet first, as Tom coughed up blood. Un-cocking his gun and holstering it, Idox pulled out his knife. "I think this will leave a message."

Idox placed the knife under Tom's eye, pressed in, and slowly drew the blade across the man's cheek as he screamed in pain. Wiping the blood off on the man's clothes, he flipped the small switchblade back to closed and whispered in Tom's ear. He then turned to leave. "We're going, Johnson."

Alice peered her red eyes at Idox as he put Tom in such pain. Strangely, she wasn't surprised. She was pleased. She then clapped her hands to Idox.

"Idox, is it?" she began "I hope to see you again. Any kid that's willing to spill another mans blood is quiet honarable to me" Alice then showed her devilish side withing her deviant eyes as she ceased clapping. "Well done, Idox"

"One more person alive is one more witness is one more story, of course." Nathaniel smiled and got up from his seat in the back of the diner. "Nathaniel Quinn, journalist from the Las Vegas Times." He would have offered a handshake, had his hand not been tightly wrapped around a pen and the other clutching a damp notebook.

He cleared his throat and began carefully: "Good sir... might you be interested in answering a few questions?" Nathaniel paused and added, "It's for the masses. They need to know what's going on in the world-- h-how did you notice he was cheating? Had he been cheating before? Would you, in fact, call this diner 'seedy'? May I quote you?"

Nathaniel inched towards the door, hoping no one, particularly the boy would notice him. He didn't feel like dying an especially horrible death any time soon. Nathaniel racked his brain for more questions, "Are you a regular here? How do you feel about where Las Vegas is going? ... What about the Casino Massacre?"

Idox peered over at the waitress' nametag, and then put his arm in front of her. "There's really no need for more violence at the moment." Then Idox smiled. "I like how you integrated your questions about the so-called massacre into your others, so I'll say this quite clearly. The police can't touch me even if they try, so any investigation is useless. Have you noticed that even though I almost killed a man, the guards are merely standing by?" Idox laughed. "Fear is a powerful thing, my clever little reporter. Very powerful indeed."

"You wouldn't say..." Nathaniel chuckled under his breath. But then again, how was he supposed to know who everyone in this town was? His hand was now maybe half a meter from the doorknob. "Look, if it's not a problem... can I quote you on that too?"

He lunged for the door.
