Orchids - you get Event Items - gather ten and you get a clue and you go find the item. The buds - you can gather them and buy commons in the special event store in place of gold.

Orchids are for rares and buds are for commons.

Roah- the orchids will get turned into event items later on in the event. You will just turn in X amount to receive X item. The buds are an alternate form of currency that you can also use to purchase the commons in the event item store. (: does that clear it up?
