Background: In December, 2009, I packed a backpack and went from my Chicago home to O'Hare International Airport to meet those flying in from out of state to go to RTC Great Lakes--the US Navy's basic training location. While my time at the MEPS hotel wasn't something I remembered well, I can still vividly recall the USO at O'Hare. It was decorated for Christmas, and there were cookies and candy sitting out available for anyone who wanted a taste of the festive season. Now, I may be Jewish, but I was scared and already missing my family a little, and the sight of those decorations and foodstuffs made it easier to relax.

The USO (United Service Organization) is dedicated to lifting the spirits of military members, wherever they serve, and their families. Their website is Let Them Know They're at Home in Our Hearts | USO, and they do take donations.

IN THAT SPIRIT: This thread is dedicated to being a hangout for Menewshan military members and military supporters over the holidays.

Rules: Be excellent to one another. All other rules can be derived from that.

sad story:
a friend of mine rrecently tried to commit suicide.
he got tapped to go overseas for six months.
his newlywed wife couldn't wait a month!
he got sent back home because the Canadians *the loves that they are*
took over his billet.
so home he goes.....to surprise his new bride.....but he was surprised and not in a good way.

yeah, he's doing much better now.
but still not cleared for duty.
i say he's milkin' it to get out of work until the new year.
he laughs at that and has even invited people over.
so i am really hopeful for him.
but as for her, i'm a lady so i will not say what i think of her!
she has four kids and four baby daddy's.
:talktohand:
'nuff said?
