Layers are basically where the items go. We have over 300 layers on menewsha. But there a is a layer for stockings, the layer for pants is OVER the stockings...the layer for socks are also over stockings but on a different one than the pants which allows you to wear pants, stockings, and socks at the same time...etc.

You mean when you're making pant like items? lol

But... how do you know how the item is going to layer under the other layers?
Are there no premade bleed-through lines? (like a printable guide but for pixels)?

&& Thank you, Maria c:

bleed through lines?

I know because I have a handful of the layers memorized so far. I know that pant items are above the underwear and the stocking layer.

So if I were to attempt this, which way does the light come from so that the shading goes the right direction? On my avatar, would it come from the upper right corner?

From what I can tell Seiki it seems to be coming from the... general direction the avi is facing. Judging by the shading on the items I've looked at, but slightly off to the side.

I could be wrong though.

That's what I figured, but sometimes the items look like they're lit from a different angle. I just wanted to be sure.

Good! Cause I don't think I can be any more... uh, explainable XD

Like this? I believe as long as you get the lighting right on one side, it'll be right for the other.
Because it's just your avatar flipped to the right that mirrors the left.

The light source is from the direction the avatar is facing...so it would be to the right on my avatar...and it's slightly above.

Yeah. I was trying to find a light source for the directly above one but Hannah doesn't have that. xD

That is a handy little guide. Maria-Minamino: should add it to the front page as a resource!

That tutorial is pretty awesome! I'm sure Maria will put it on the front page. :)

Here's a quick reference for light.

Facing Left

Facing Right

The lighting could be described as soft...so there's no harsh shadows. Just pleasing gradients. :3

Miroro... are we on the same page about light direction? XD
The answer needed was : avatar facing the light. or not.
The tutorial you show is awesome, but it didn't tell me that menewsha avatar is facing the light.?

By the way, I especially like the animated arrow part of it. <33
