I think you could do the layer leaf thing with the leaf pants.
Then lighten up the coloring because it seems a bit dark for leaves.

MS paint can be a pain, you don't have layers to easily move or delete.
You have to literally keep copy/pasting lul But GIMP, it's easy but it tends to lag.

I use Photoshop Elements

You're right.... it does look a bit dark...
Was just using the key though. Might have to find another mene key color

Gimp forces me to cut/paste

HEY Poet :) If you are still working on those leaf shorts - I would challenge you to take a look at some of the leaf items mene has released for reference on the shading :) I personally LOVE how wishie did the big leaves for the CI "Little Bug Problem." Her shading is so minimal and yet so effective! They actually helped me create the leaves in the recent EI, "Deep in the Jungle"

You had the idea down - I think you could use a couple nicks or something in the leaves to make them look a bit more real in shape. And then the shading is a bit much. Try using Wishie's minimal technique :)

Maria-Minamino: I had it there as I pixeled for reference and I think this is definitely an improvement from the last leaf.
I will need to reshade it for the mirror though, but I can live with that.

*eats it* crispy. It's hard for me to tell the current ones changes without seeing them side by side. Leaf seems like it would be really hard to do.

Bottom one is the old one, the top two are the new ones. I mirrored and reshaded it a little bit. (Still needs work on the second one)

I have not added mene's pixeling technique to give them more texture though. I plan to do that soon.

Oooooh. I really like your leaves. :)
I think maybe if you added a slight highlight to the lighter green areas, it would add a bit more depth to them. But the shape and everything is looking awesome right now.

At least the shape is good :3

But yes, I plan to do that. They are already at 6 shades though, so that will be a bit tricky. May just expand the lightest color a bit.

The leaves are looking better, Poet! :D
The stem in the middle needs to be lightened up, it's a bit thick.

You're welcome ^^

Here's some lighter leaf references:

I think Hannah's is better at displaying the stem, though.

Those. Are. Adorable.
That's quite a big leaf though.

Maria actually said I should use the Little Bug Problem leaf as a reference (as I have).
But I must say, those are definitely a good reference. I actually learned a lot of my pixeling from her site.

Latest version:

I actually like the previous version better - the shading was more definted. This one has too much dithering - in such a small item, it doesn't need that much at all :)

Also - Perhaps vary the length of the veins in the leaf...not all of them have to connect all the way across.

But Poet! This is awesome :D You are definitely improving as you go :D

Well, it's a good thing I kept a copy of the old one.
True they don't have to go all the way across... just finding it hard to work with a max of 6 shades
I so badly keep wanting to add a 7th shade.

Here you go Maria, the so far and many to come of edits. Going to just number them and keep them together

Yeah, I was just using those as a stem reference (the stem that goes through the middle) and the highlights. The Bug problem leaves are a good start, yes. But they're on a bigger scale and I thought maybe a smaller scale leaves would give you two ways you wanna do it either way.

But I like the newest version!!! It's really good!

Cool. So #4 then? (they aren't in order ^^")

I have a problem with the leaf though... looks too unshaded at the moment =/

Number 4 is looking good :) I would add a tiny bit of a highlight color. Do you only have 5 shades in there?

Is the one next to #1, #4? Or is just #4 the last one? Because I like the first one next to #1.

I would suggest that, referencing on existing pixels/other people's pixels on HOW to shade. But when pixeling details, it is best to have a real thing as reference. Sometimes, other people's pixel's works due to various reasons, they use more than 6 shades, they use different palette, they have more contrasting shades, different scales...

Unless you are creating a new type of leaf, It would be better to look at the real stuff in real world.
Currently, I am undecided on what that leaf WANT to be.
