It's also been a pretty bad few years worldwide, between the major political instability in several parts of Africa and the middle-east which in several cases has led to (civil) war after the failed Arab Spring, terrorism groups growing stronger, lots and lots of (suicide) bombings especially in the middle-east over the past seven years, as well as several kidnappings by Boko Haram, the rise of ISIS/IS, economical crises, several natural disasters, the whole Russia/Ukraine mess including the downed flight MH-17 (and a few years before that, the Russia/Georgia/South-Ossetia mess), rising anti-semitism worldwide, several food scandals, several outbreaks of highly dangerous diseases some of which went epidemic, several food crises, various pirate-attacks off the coast of Somalia, various counts of human trafficking ships from Africa/Middle-East towards Europe getting in trouble with dozens if not hundreds of people dying, several air-crashes...

And that's just from top of my head and describing in fairly broad categories.

Dont forget the ever-rising hate towards Muslims. :(

i dont know if you printed a paper with nothing but motivational animals and all the obituaries were about horrible people dying i'd consider that some happy news.

i think people are more interested in bad news anyway unless it has something to do with social rights.

And the general divisiveness worsening well, everywhere, and leading to hate and discrimination towards everything/everyone different. =/ More and more people who seem to think that because some members of a group did something, everyone belonging to or even loosely associated with that group must be like that. Except their own group, because then it's just a (vocal) minority.

I guess that also depends on one's definition of "better", Eli. If you're going with "not as bad as now", I strongly suspect we'll see some such times--as well as worse times, probably, as things love to go up-and-down-up-and-down--but if you mean "fixed/solved", then yeah, not in our lifetimes.

Yeah, I meant more along the lines of fixed/solved.

Though to be honest, some of those issues will only ever be permanently solved by means of humanity's extinction. Mankind is incapable of forming close ties with huge groups of its own species and just about equally incapable of getting along well with multiple large groups of its own species it perceives as "not ours" and does not otherwise have ties with either.

The tendency to divide in "like me" and "not like me"; "ours" and "outsiders" is instinct and not so very different from the way other animals with a tendency to live in groups/packs/social structures behave.

Yeah, that's very true. That instinct is even present in toddlers, as I've found out through my developmental psychology class.

There's some folks with a diminished instinct along those lines compared to others, as well as folks who are well aware of that instinct and thus try to suppress it as much as possible when it comes to acting, but for the great majority of people, it's just simply there--and it served mankind well when it came to the species' survival for so very long that it's not going to disappear any time soon, either.

Unfortunately. :C I'm still trying to suppress the instinct. I think I'm doing pretty well.

school was cancelled last night for me. honestly, i was expecting it to be a bust and nothing to stick but.. there's icicles and snow and everything! i wish i could go build a snowman or something.

So far, it looks like we're only going to see rain. But they say the snow's going to start later tonight.

The snow hasn't stopped coming down since it started here.

Well, I'm glad we're not getting any of that.

i don't know when it stopped but it probably did sometime during the night. wish we had more but everything cold seems to shy away from the south haha.
