What makes you sad or mad about crafting?

We've all had are moments where we wanted to throw are hot glue on at the wall. What were your mad moments? One of mine was when I made a phone charm out of clay and gave it to a friend for a gift. But it broke off her phone and she lost it. I was upset about that. I also tried to spray paint a cross on my tank top. but I forgot to put cardboard in the tank top so the paint went there my tank top. So many crazy situations with crafting.

What crazy stories do you have?

I once made 12 individually crafted thread bracelets for some of my friends in elementary school, but my mother accidentally sucked them up in a vacuum.

Another time I made a giant origami ball sculpture - it was my own design and unnamed - for my aunt. It fell apart because nothing was glued.

Oh man that stinks that's why I would try to put everything up as a kid because my father would just throw it away >_<

Oh poo I'm sorry that happened to you. Did you fix it back up though?

No, I never made another. I'm not sure if I can even replicate it. I make a lot of origami, and it can be frustrating when you get up to a certain point where you make a wrong fold and have to restart. I'm trying to make a 3 dimensional rose now.

Haha my friend bought me a book called "Pornogami" for my birthday. That was fun.

Oh poo.. The only origami thing that I've made are the little origami stars. Knowing me I would get a lot of paper cuts XD

I love it when my friends would get me art related gifts it makes me so happy.

Me too. I recently got a gouache set from a friend. It's beautiful, but I don't know how to use it.

I've gotten some really bad gifts in the past. One new year, I got a vacuum cleaner and a bag of windmill cookies. I think photo frames are among the worst of gifts. I have more of those than I have photos. And I appreciate cards, but I don't know what to do with them or how long I should hold onto them.

Oh my goodness I never got gifts like that from my friends. Most of the time I would get sketchbooks and such. My friend is giving me her art case cause she never uses it.

I would usually make handmade gifts for my friends. There was one Christmas where I made everyone t-shirts.

How did you make the shirts? I used to gift shirts that I designed and printed by hand (I made a thread about screen printing earlier), but I've also known people who order a bunch of shirts with the same design at once.

Well I did what you said. I would make a design and print them on t-shirts. I would use... Oh shoot what's it called? You could print your designs on it then you would have to iron them on the t-shirt.

Yeah. I made a few designs. I made these.
  1. Raichu
  2. Team megma symbol
  3. and a kitty cat

My friends loved them. It took a bit to do because my iron was being stupid. :P

I tend to get too OCD with a lot of my projects so when things start going wrong I freak out a bit (sometimes that can be an understatement).

I was recently working on a cosplay for a just passed convention. I wanted to go as Ruby Rose from RWBY and I wanted a full size weapon with me. Unfortunately (and I do this to myself all the time), I poorly planned how long it would take to paint and assemble it. I was up until 2:30 in the morning the night before we were to leave for the convention, the weather sucked and in my mind the weapon looked like garbage. Pieces weren't holding like they should have been and the rain that was coming into the garage was splattering it. I had decided to starting putting pieces together to see how it would look to feel better. I ended up busting a glue seam on one of the pieces and I was done. I called it quits because there was no way that I was going to be able to reglue it and still get the last few pieces painted and put together in time to still enjoy the convention. I was proud of myself in this case because all I did was walk away from it (and cry for a while in disappointment).

I've been really watching my temper when it comes to my little let downs in projects. On more than one occasion I have stabbed what I'm writing/drawing on with my pencil, or the pencil has gotten thrown across the room, books and pages in the same boat.

Since the convention, I do still plan on putting the weapon together to see how my first prop build went (it did look rugged and AWESOME for what I had gotten together).

There are definitely many other stories, but that's just the most recent.

Oh my goodness I am so lazy when it comes to cosplay. I don't have a sewing machine so most of the time I would either work by hand or go to my friends house and use hers. I was working on a Ms. Fortune from skull girls. And Acen was the very next day. I didn't finish her the ears were stupid the tail was crazy looking. I didn't have enough belt bags and the leg warmers were just bad. I told my self that I need to work on my cosplays early and not be a lazy bum!

I'm sorry to hear about your weapon. I've never made weapons for cosplay before. I would probably half ass it . But I am glad that you're watching your temper. And it's awesome that you went back to working on it instead of giving up. :D

The most recent mess up that I did was making my partners art table. I hit my fingers a few times with the hammer... But my silly butt realized that I needed a drill not a hammer... Then when I spray painted I ran out of black. Then when I was trying to spray paint a fox on there I goofed hard. So I had to get more black spray paint. I Fix that up and paint the fox on there. I had to leave it in my house (because of the rain) I left it on the dining table.. But the wood glue wasn't dry so it dripped on the table and got onto my mothers favorite table cloth. She was not happy with me and told me to do my crafts in the basement. This is how it looked when I finished.

If I didn't get my mom's sewing machine I probably wouldn't have done anything. I am also bad about half-assing things but I had wanted to compete in the costume, unfortunately I still procrastinated too much...

I have pictures from the build on my deviantArt (link in my sig) and I plan on putting future stuff in it as well; I'll be starting my next projects beginning of 2014.

It turned out nicely though! I was having issues with the wood glue I was using too; I didn't realize it drips as much as it does @.@ And for some reason I was surprised when I was putting my weapon together when the screws didn't grip the foam and shredded it; not sure what I was expecting.

So I went through your DA and I saw your weapon for Rwby and I thought was "Holy cow that is huge!" I know Ruby's weapon is big but my goodness. It looks awesome!

Wood glue is just the devil...

Hahaha, yeah, I haven't fully finished yet (yeah for being lazy XP) but when I had laid out the pieces for the rife, it was at least a foot taller than me making it at least 6+ feet tall. The blade itself was probably around 5 or so? I tried to make the size true to me as it was to her, though without it being done, I have no idea how close I was.

Yes, it really is... Granted, a part of it had to be my fault with not realizing that my pieces weren't fully touching >.>

What's it made out of? Is the weapon made out of wood? If it is that must be heavy as heck! D:

It's actually made mostly out of styrene. My uncle used to work for a movie studio and recommended that, though for the next time I make it he said to go with fiberglass. The rifle is a mixture of PVC pipe (which adds a lot to the weight), housing foam, and styrene.

Ruby is being put on hold for the future so I can research the best way to rebuild the weapon, especially the rifle section seeing as it needs to be light weight and able to support the weight of the blade.

For now I have been planning the 2014 cosplays. My boyfriend and I plan on going as Gray and Juvia from Fairy Tail and I got in in my mind that I want to make basic outfits for them (their traditional stuff) as well as their outfits from the Fantasia parade.

I'm also going to be working on a Big Sister and Eldar Farseer, whether for this year or future years is yet to be determined.

Oh wow those cosplays.. I thought about being a big sister at one time. But that was only that one time. Maybe I should plan for my 2014 cosplays... But I should get some cosplays done first.

Good luck on your new projects though! There's a lot of weapon tutorials on the web somewhere I could look some up if ya want. :3

I'm not one to turn away help, especially tutorials XP

I've been watching a lot on how to make casts so I can mold props and accessories to make things more durable and look better.

I'm currently trying to make little drawstring pouches for various things, both to sell and as gifts, but sometimes the material sews crooked DX and my sewing machine keeps jamming with the stitches!

I love making them cause they're simple but I wish things would just co-operate
