Belle was reading her book in her room when she noticed they had left the dock. 'Back to the sea, already.' She said to herself before the commotion outside her door roused her from her bed and went to the door. The rest of the crew raced past her door towards the deck. Apparently another ship had been spotted coming towards them. Being curious, Belle followed the crowd to the deck of the ship. Her eyes were mesmerized as she gazed at the other ship.

She looked for the captain on the deck and ran towards him when she found him. "Captain, what's going on?" Her eyes went to him before looking towards the approaching ship.

The deck of the ship was dead silent, dead being the most fitting word on such a ship. The crew waited at their stations - those who had their sanity mentally prepared. The others, just prepared in general. Below decks their Captain was busy doing what he does... scheming away. Many pirates say action is louder then words, and not to scheme ones life away. Though when death cant catch up to you, there is plenty of life to scheme away.

The crew had their eye on Tortuga, but constantly glanced over to the stairwell leading below deck. The Captain said to be ready, and they were. Awaiting on his slightest nod to open fire and riddle the port with cannon balls. Presumably the assault would be followed by a raid.. or in this case, with the Captains words, annihilation. The cannons with ball and chain waited, prepped to immobilize any ship that dare to interfere. Scarier still... whatever was occurring below decks - at their Captains hands, could never be good.

The silence was broken when the sound of...something, fell into the water. Then again, and again... Repeating for some time until they ceased. The splashes were sudden and very numerous, sporadic even. What kind of blasphemy was the Captain planning? The sound of water breaking ceased, and the crew had lumps in their throats and only the company of one another, and terrible thoughts in their heads.

The shallow silence was once more broken by footsteps on the stairwell... the Captain to be sure. The waited, nervous, for his figure to appear. For once they hoped it be him, and not one of those that reside below deck. Then there was the give away, the white hair of his. No hat ever perched his head, his hair was his calling card to the crew. Whispers of the crew and myth said that reminded him of something. Still no-one knew what of.

He was here. His figure on deck, his eyes closed. Still, the crew knew to prepare. Captain never stopped watching - the ship was his eye, his body. It was a part of him and aside from the spirits, the crew believe it would only ever serve him.

"Kill them all." Talons lips parted gently, if it were not those words it would almost be seductive. Also would help if it was not a man of such terror. Man... can he really be called such. Not that the crew would debate it, nor anyone whom longed to live. Still it did not matter. He made his orders.

Instantly the sound of cannons tore through the air, and moments later - the goal was clear to all near by. Tortuga's buildings shattered when struck. The screams started - the Captain smiled. The volleys continued.

The cannons fired fast - faster then any ship the Captain had ever encountered. His ship was a thing of war, and it let out a dreary creak from its black wooden self. The creak of approval the crew assumed. The Captain though, so pleased with himself. He watched on as the place caught fire - how did not matter. It was a bonus.

"Now spirits. Do you see!?" Talon raised his arms in glory, he was victorious over the spirits. Their threats and powers could not stop the physical being whom refused to be controlled. Nor the ship that bent to his every whim. "I am my own man! Let this be noted from here forth!" Talon turned to his crew whom had truly gone into a frenzy. Thoroughly enjoying the destruction of this port, yes. Still he knew what they wanted.

The land called them - just to be on dry land for a little while. To be a true pirate for a little while. They longed for it. "My crew. My ship. My rules." Talon crossed his arms and turned to look at the port he had set ablaze.

But something caught his eye. A ship. Off in the distance, leaving Tortuga too. The watchmen? No.. he had no one to punish on this ship. That figure was the watchmen as well. Until he had been banished by the Captain himself. Though that was the spirits fault, they are the ones who had to exert their will on him. No choice but that one, and regret was for the weak.

Either way it was but a ship. Some pirate on that ship, some Royal Navy men. It did not matter, if they approached him they would have their masts torn away. Like rending flesh from bone. No fear was held in the Captains heart. None at all.

The moment stood too well. That was the problem, and leave it to the spirits to ruin a mood.

"This will be a mistake you shall soon regret." The spirits spoke in tandem, man and woman this time. Calm... calm in the way as to un-nerve the weak. Something the Captain was not.

As such it was met with a chuckle. Though no crew heard it, at least they would never mention it. Scared to be punished by the Captain for gossip. He may not hear... but it was that ship. The crew would swear it was alive if they did not know any better. Ironically, they did not know any better.

"Fire several more volleys. We take to the land soon enough." With a casual wave of his right hand over the distant port, he signed the death warrant to the place. The people died, screamed and ran - yet he walked to his quarters. Content.

((Just to clarify your ship is moving while his does not - it just floats and shoots at the moment. No obstruction to your path. In case I made that unclear or confusing. Sorry I kinda made you all wait though, but I did come back. Hahaha.))

When Gemma called that other ship a boat, Ryek's hand drew back almost of it's own accord. He didn't strike her, only threatened. "It is a ship, a wench has no right to insult such a vessel by calling it a boat." He lowered his hand just as Belle approached him. Frowning a bit. "Belle, get this woman off my deck. Both of you are in the way. The crew is busy." His ship was turning, sailing away from Tortuga and away from that other ship. He had made enough friends for one evening and certainly wasn't looking to make more. Especially since that ship seemed to strike fear in the hearts of his superstitious men. Ryek turned to look towards that ship, it did cause his skin to want to crawl. A shiver to run down his spine but Captain Ryek would never admit to being afraid of anything.

He looked expectantly at Gemma and Belle. They were women, they had no place on the deck while the crew scrambled with their duties. Especially while the crew scrambled so frantically. "Well, go on. Off with the two of you." He moved past them, going towards the upper deck where the wheel was. His first mate there, of course the young man relinquished control over to Ryek as soon as the captain was close enough to grab the wheel. Ryek spoke rapid French to the first mate and the young man raced down the steps and into Ryek's room. Coming out moments later with the map and one of Ryek's compasses.

Then he heard it. Cannon fire. His head jerked up, a moment of fear gripped him, thinking maybe his ship was being fired upon, though no other ships were near him. Save that one off in the distance, but they were to far apart to fire upon each other. He looked towards Tortuga and shook his head. It wasn't the first, nor would it be the last, time that pirate port got raided. Sometimes by pirates and sometimes by the navy. Being in that place was always a gamble in and of itself. Ryek was lucky he'd gotten his hands on that map. If not, he would have been in that tavern. He took the map from his first mate, folded it and slipped it inside his boot. Then he took his compass and just held it in one hand while he steered with the other. Occasionally barking out orders to his crew in French.

She jumped a little as he barked her name and looked at the other female. "Come with me, please." Belle said to the other woman as moves towards the stairs that descended to the lower deck of the ship. Her eyes went to her captain as he took charge and watched him behind the wheel of his ship. The young woman waited for the other woman to come with her so she could find her brother. Belle felt like she should stay and fight for her captain. But she had to follow his orders. Her eyes went to the other woman as cannons were heard. "Please, miss. We have to hurry."

Gemma puffed up her chest at the sight of Ryek drawing his hand back as if to dare him. Her eyes narrowed and her fists clenched. She averted her eyes to Belle when Ryek did. Her fists unclenched and she stared almost blankly at the half elf. Who was this woman? Gemma frowned at Ryek's words of them in the way. She could hold her own on a ship, she knew exactly how to run one, but her eyes found the ship in the distance just as the sound of cannon fire ripped through the air.

Gemma didn't protest now, she followed Belle to the stairs, stopping briefly to glance over her shoulder at Ryek. She was trusting him now to get his ship and all those aboard to safety, but she wouldn't soon forget her map. Turning again, she followed Belle down the stairs.

~~~*~~~*~~~
Azaela had been following the ship for some time, but the closer they got to land, the more her father's nagging words rang in her head. If she went any further, Poseidon would certainly be furious. She dove below the surface and turned around to head in the opposite direction when the loud boom of the cannons began. The vibrations shook her to her very core. What was that? She'd never experienced anything like that before. Her sapphire eyes poked above the water again. She had to go see what was happening.
Diving under the water Azaela swam quickly under the ship firing upon Tortuga, placing herself between it and the land. She came up again facing the ship. She stared wide eyed at the cannons as they fired upon the town. She had seen those before on sunken ships! But what were they? She turned her back to the ship and faced the burning town. It was so beautiful. What was all of that bright orange color jumping into the night sky? She waded there mesmerized by the vibrations of the water and the fire that engulfed the town not paying attention to anything else now.
((Sorry I hope this made sense! I've got family over and my mind is somewhere else!))
Talon smiled as he witnessed the destruction of this place by his hand, paying no heed to the words of the damned spirits. They had done nothing yet, and even if they did it would be too late to stop the down fall of Tortuga. This city would be ripe for the plundering, and provide him with the destruction and twisted fun necessary to please his crew. Something has to get their spirits up, for the real Spirits and the Captain sure inspired something - fear.
Though now the crew had a rest. They had fired the volleys the captain had asked for, and now put things back into a restive state. That is to say, the cannons with balls and chains remained prepped. The three of them, and several other cannons with cannon balls placed on the deck to face away from land. This way making a raid would be safer.
Walking closer to the deck Talon notice the ripples of water, something had surfaced. A mermaid? Here? It was much closer to land then the typical mermaid would have gone. Was it sick or dieng? What was wrong with this thing?
Crossing his arms in front of his chest he let his voice travel down to her, "Mermaid. This spot would not be safest for you." He glanced over her position and made note of his gun. A mermaid had many uses alive, but a few dead as well. Still he had more pressing matters to deal with.
He made his way to the wheel, he would steer his ship closer to the port. No need to waste the energy swimming or anything else as ludicrous as that. The port would be clear when he got there anyways, that was for certain. Planning ahead was a smart move - and for that he and his crew would reap the rewards.
Still that mermaid. Could she serve him any use? No, it would not make sense. They live in the deep waters where they would not hear of much but their own tales. Still... As Captain it is his call, surely the crew would appreciate her company. Not that their opinions did matter of much.
The tales could be of use, and its better to be safe then sorry.
Leaving his station for but a moment he threw over a tangled mass of rope for the mermaid to climb up. "Here. Use this and get on my deck for now - otherwise Ill bring my ship to port. Regardless if you move or not." Talon turned away from the edge of the deck and to his station only a captain should reign. A captain, not some spirit. He had made such clear.
"Prepare to board the port. I care not what you do, just dont get in my way." Talon spoke loud and clear and the crew riled themselves up into a frenzy, weapons in hand and testosterone in their veins. This would be quick.
Ryek kept one eye on that ship as he steered his away. True the women had been in the way of his scurrying crew, but Ryek wasn't has cold as he would lead most to believe. He really had sent them away to secure their safety. Or a small semblance of safety. It was hard for anyone to be safe if cannon balls were raining down on the ship. Lucky for them, the other ship either didn't notice, or didn't care that they were leaving. It's main focus seemed to be Tortuga and for a few moments, when the cannon fire had stopped, Ryek was tempted to turn his ship and sail for the port.
The pirate in him wanting to loot what was left. It wasn't his spoils to claim though, of course Ryek wasn't above stealing from another pirate, but he always fought for what he stole. Gaining the spoils as it were, and he had no right to even try to grasp at the spoils that awaited in Tortuga. Well, the ones that survived the destruction of the town. Ryek was sure there would be plenty. It was a pirate town and some idiotic pirates often hid their treasures in that place. Ryek looked out towards the open sea. The other ship was moving towards land, and not a threat to Ryek's own. For now at least. So his ship sliced through the water, faster than one her size ought to, but not impossibly fast. Soon the other ship and Tortuga would be out of sight, though the thick smoke from the fires of Tortuga's destruction would still clearly be visible for a while.
Snapping out of her daze, Azaela thought she heard someone call 'mermaid'. She turned around to blink owlishly up at the captain. She had been seen. That was already not a good thing. Her father had told her time and time again to avoid humans at all costs because he feared that she may be captured. It was for good reason as her father Poseidon would be left at the mercy of whoever held his daughter captive. Not to mention, she knew of the locations of many sunken treasures.
"Safe..." she repeated quietly to herself. Was she in danger here? When the man threw down the rope, Azaela marveled. This man seemed to care for her safety, and was not trying to capture her. She knew that not all humans were bad. She swam towards the net, pausing for a moment. What would her father say when he found out she'd actually boarded a human ship? But more importantly, what kind of worldly treasures would it hold?
Azaela reached up and grabbed the rope with one hand, the other touched her small shell pendant that hung delicately around her neck. Her magic was held inside that shell and without it, her powers would be weak and she would not be able to transform between her mermaid and human bodies. Within seconds, her teal colored tail disappeared leaving her only in her shell bra, which she didn't realize was inappropriate in the human world.
She began to climb up the rope but she was doing a miserable job. She'd never climbed before, and she'd only used her human legs a handful of times for very short periods of time. Sapphire eyes looked up for help as her hands held tightly to rope. She was so close. As she reached up towards the wooden railing her foot slipped from a piece of the tangled netting and she fulling expected to plummet back into the 'dangerous' waters.
((Lol, the nudity seemed more realistic. :sweat: I battled with it for a while. Hope no one is offended!))
Belle lead the other woman downstairs and into the captain's quarters. Her eyes went to Aurelio's room and gasped as he was not in there. She felt panic start in her core as she looked around the room for him. The half elf looked at the woman and spoke with panic in her tone. "Stay here." Belle ran back up stairs and looked around the deck for her little brother. She didn't see him but she saw them sailing away from the port and the other ship. A gleam of blonde caught the corner of her eye and attention.
Aurelio stood at the railing and watched the other ship attack the port. His eyes focused on the destruction as his sister touched his shoulder. "Come, we have to get below deck. Before the captain sees us." She said before guiding him away from the sight. Belle knew they were already in trouble for causing a scene at the market. Being on deck without permission would just make the captain even more upset with them. And Belle didn't want that. "Downstairs, quick, Aurelio." He nodded and went down the stairs as she told him to.
Gemma nodded to Belle as she disappeared from view. She was left unattended now? Perfect. Gemma sneakily made her way back towards the Captain's quarters. There had to be something useful in here to help her get her way. Maybe something that she could hold 'ransom' or even just information she could learn about him. She fumbled through papers and old maps looking for anything that might help, finding one particularly pricey looking treasure and sticking it deep into her pocket.
As she fumbled quickly through his belongings she mumbled under her breath. She couldn't believe she'd lost the map so quickly and she couldn't believe Ryek actually wanted to strike a deal. Well, she could believe that part, but who was he to act like he had the upper hand? She'd show him, maybe, she hoped.
Talon stood at the wheel of his ship, listening to the mermaid struggle to climb the rope he had thrown. Clearly she had not been on land much if at all. He grabbed the wheel and spun it hard, jamming it in place with his gun. Then he walked over to the edge of his ship and gazed down. She was determined, he would give her that. Not one to give up. Still she did not seem strong enough to complete such a task. The captain, as always, was right.
As she slipped his sword arm came to the rescue, with incredible speed and grip she would be pulled aboard. And she was. He pulled her over the railing and brought her body upon the deck. "Close enough." He smirked and dragged his rope back aboard, it had no use but better not to waste what could be of use later on. "You have yet to walk much I see, then why are you so close to the land?" Talon glanced over her, she had no weapons and she seemed in no state to pose a threat to anybody on board.
Unjamming the wheel by re-holstering his gun he yelled to his crew, "Prepare the planks, we port in but a moment." His eyes were still cold and calculated, but now his mind worked quick as to this mermaids possible use. She would certainly anger The Spirits, but they had been quite for some time now. Their promised vengeance weighed on the Captains mind.
"I have no shirt to give you." He turned his gaze upon the mermaid once more, then over to the rope and the surrounding area. Nothing she could use to cover up. "This will take a moment." He turned his attention to the port. The crew had already made haste to lay down the boards and already sprinted to the places they would expect to find anything of worth.
They knew how it worked. Kill all the children, and women. Though the women you could have your way with - as long as that did not affect ones ability to work. Though luckily most of the men were to damaged to lust after woman, it tended to save time on raids. The men? Talon had no care for. He had them killed as well, occasionally he would arm them and entertain himself and crew with fights. Though that became boring to the captain very long ago.
The ship creaked once more, it would not move until the captain wished it too. No need for the anchors other ships would use. He made his way to the lower deck, and to his quarters. He closed his door behind him though he was only their for a moment. Leaving with some form of black cloth and leather belt.
Silently moving up the stairs he dropped the black cloth and leather belt, "Something to cover yourself with. For your sake." He shook his head, knowing his crew would no doubt be intrigued by this new addition. Though maybe the fear would keep them in line. Only one way to know, and the crew was already gone - dispersed amongst the rubble. The screams of women and children alike rang through the port, and the sound of blades clashing soon followed.
This mermaid. She could be of use... but she would need to be able to walk first. Then she would need to know the basics. "Do not go below decks. You would wish the punishment was death." The captain glanced over her, his eyes were dark. His face emotionless, this was one of the more important rules. "Do not enter my quarters unless asked. The punishment is death." He stood before her, arms crossed. Her lack of clothing with no affect, he was stern and monotone in his warnings. "You will walk with me at all times, and not talk to my crew." Talon left his warnings of death behind on that one, saving them for more important matters. "My word is law, my orders to be met - and my judgement final. Again, you will wish for death." Talon looked deep into her eyes, this was not only his rule - but a pirates rule. Still most importantly, a captains rule. This was the single most important rule, unsurpassed by any other.
Still those rules would suffice for now. It would take too much time to bring her to terms with everything his crew already knew of. She just need follow these rules and she would be fine. Still, he needed to address her with some respect.
"A name perhaps?" His lips barely parting, the sound of his voice seemed to slip out like a bad secret. Yet so clearly heard. "You must also practice your walk. I wont be going anywhere unless a crew mate finds something Id find of interest." He glanced over the port. This had better bring him something, besides aggravating those damned spirits.
Though watching the fire of the port was refreshing, it made him feel accomplished. That ship had not challenged him - and for that he saved time. Though, he had prepared for it. He walked down the stairs once more and below deck, where no living thing had permission to be. He trusted the mermaid to care for herself as he dealt with what he must, what truly required attention.
So he did, and he did well. Moments after he had gone below, he had once again come above decks. Then but moments after that, the ship rocked side to side - as if large waves crashed against the side of the ship. Though there was no waves in sight. They were not needed after all.
A plan not used, is a trap spared he always said. Though this mermaid was a surprise of her own. She was clearly different... No mermaid would ever come this close to men - and be so calm. "You are not a prisoner, but my rules are the rules. Please ask what you like." Talon nodded his head gently forward as to be curious, but not yielding any authority.
"But recall that I am the captain."
Azaela closed her eyes as she began to fall, but when she felt the hand grab her, she looked up to see the caring captain who'd asked her to board. She smiled, what a great man this captain was. She climbed over the railing and tried to gain her balance on her human legs without much luck. Within moments she was flat on her butt. When he spoke of a shirt, she wondered what that was. He wanted to give her a gift now too?
She watched him walk away before she could tell him why she had been so close to land, and moved to pull herself up again using the wooden railing of the large ship. Azaela was looking down at her rubbery feeling legs when he returned and dropped the cloth and belt onto the deck. For my sake? She didn't quite understand what this cloth would accomplish in her favor, but none the less she was grateful for his generosity. "Thank you!" she exclaimed, picking up the black cloth and holding it out in front of her. How does this work? she wondered.
As he spoke she tried to wrap the cloth around her shoulders, but it fell. Then she tried to tie it in a knot around herself, but she was still left exposed. Although he spoke of things very important, her mind was focused on that black cloth. Her frustration began to grow as she looked from his clothes, to the cloth and tried to recreate the outfit on her own body. Had she actually been listening, she probably would have realized that Talon was in fact, not, a nice man and she would have transformed back into her mermaid form, jumped ship, and swam away.
Fortunately, she was too focused on that puzzle of a piece of cloth, to register any of his attitude, orders, or screams from ashore. Name? Had he asked her a question? "Oh, I'm Azaela," she said cheerfully. She wanted to tell him she was princess of the sea, daughter of Poseidon, but she thought twice. Maybe there were some things she should keep to herself for now. When he reminded her that she wasn't a prisoner, she only nodded thankfully. Of course she wasn't, she had come here willingly to get away from the danger in the water. Or was in on land? She really wasn't sure what the danger was about.
Finally Azaela had had it with the stupid cloth. She held it in her hands and frowned down at it as if it might see her frustration and finally cooperate. She held it out to the captain. "This is broken," she said, recalling what he'd said his name was, "the captain." Such a strange sounding name.
So this one could speak, or was at least willing too. That was good news for Talon - communicating was much easier that way. Though he could not help but chuckle at her attempts to create a make-shift skirt of sorts from the cloth and belt. Better yet, she insisted the cloth was broken. She was so naive to the ways of the world. Huh, lucky girl.
"Here." Talon grabbed the cloth and belt, and quickly fastened a make shift skirt for the woman. "Azaela was it?" Talon backed up as to not be in her personal space, no need to be to aggressive. "If the fabric bothers you, remove it. I wear no shirt and will not force you to do something I would not." A skirt was different from a shirt, but the point still stood.
Talon proceeded to leaned against the wheel, thinking to the raid in which his crew participated in just beside them. Kind to think of it, it had grown quiet. None of the crew had even returned with treasures, let alone information. Turning his head to the blaze of buildings, the figure of a man could be made out in the 'natural' lighting. He approached quickly and loudly, carrying arms full of gold or some other material trifle.
Though as he touch foot to plank, he keeled over - instantly dead.
"Unless waiting on a dead crew is what pirates do, you might as well set sail." The harsh whispers tore through his head, racking him with pain. The female spirit was here.
"No rest for the wicked. Or crew." The males voice was followed with a chuckle, arrogance accompanying it.
"Bastards." Talon whispered to himself as he turned his attention below the deck. Maybe they still waited, they were not technically crew after all. Firstly he approached the crew mate whom had died at the foot of his ship, grabbing his cutlass and nothing else. Kicking his body to sea along with the planks that provided a bridge to port.
"Azaela, can you use a weapon?" Talon turned to the girl whom he had little hope in. She could not make a garment, what hope does she at wielding a blade? Still he approached her and placed it at her feet. "Use this to protect yourself." Talon was still emotionless, he was just prepared for the worst case scenario. Below decks is where they stayed - and the dead tend to be closer to the spirits anyways.
Though only fear would stop the approach, something this captain lacked. Approaching the deck, he took the stairs below - hand on his sword at all times. It took but moments for him to surface once more. "We are in luck." He approached the mermaid, she probably would not be fond of the following. "Don't fear them." Talon nodded towards the blackness that was below decks as something stirred.
After a short silence, the most grotesque creatures began to shamble their way onto the deck. "They are practically brain dead." Talon turned to the mermaid and smirked, she just became the next smartest thing on his ship. His feelings towards that were mixed.
The things that crawled out form the darkness, where they belonged, smelled of rotten flesh. Surprisingly they were mostly bone draped in tattered cloths. Blood drenched for the most part. Some had skin or muscle, flesh to be general, speckled onto their moldy looking bones.
"Meet the new crew. Any questions?" Talon looked the girl in the eyes. She would probably be confused - but The Spirits do that to people. At least his new crew would always follow orders - though they lacked the intelligence to think for themselves. Gripping onto the wheel - he turned his attention to the boat that had sailed away earlier. That boat was an opportunity for obtaining a living crew once more. Most importantly, a chance of putting this reserved crew back into storage below decks.
"You mermaids fond of adventure?" Talon nodded to his crew and they began to work at prepping and keeping the ship in traveling condition. They were easier to control - but the ship felt empty. Emptier then usual. They would have to catch that other ship as soon as they could for some real men. As they set sail for the other ship Talon once again turned to the mermaid whom now served as the only living thing aboard the ship aside from him self.
She watched as Talon wrapped the cloth around her and secured it in place. If she didn't like it? She loved it! "It's so soft!" she exclaimed happily. She'd found pieces of cloth like this in the ocean but they weren't usually this size, nor were they so dry and soft. She stood there rubbing over the fabric with her hands while Talon went to push the body of his crew member into the ocean. She was oblivious to what was going on and smiled down at the pretty fabric as she tried to ruffle it up to blow in the wind.
When Talon approached her and placed a dagger at her feet she blinked owlishly down at it. Being the princess of the ocean, she'd had many gifts placed before her, but never a weapon. She was familiar with the thing as she'd come across them in her explorations of sunken ships, but she'd never touched one. In fact, she'd never even touched any of the weapons that were commonly used under the ocean either. She picked it up, holding the wrong end of the dagger. How would someone use this to protect themselves? she wondered.
Her sapphire eyes searched the deck for Talon, but he had disappeared below deck. What would she need to protect herself from? When he reappeared, she smiled happily to see him again, her new human friend. She looked into the blackness wondering what it was she should not be afraid of. She certainly wasn't afraid of the dark, much of the ocean was in a constant state of darkness. She would surely have nothing to worry about.
When the creatures began to emerge from the darkness Azaela took a step backwards. She wasn't particularly frightened, but she'd never seen anything like them before, and they smelled awful. She covered her nose and mouth with her free hand and stared towards the creatures. She thought she was seeing human bones mixed with a lot of red color that she wasn't sure what was. In any case, her friend had told her not to fear, so she did not
She removed her hand from her face and held onto the ship again for balance. She nodded to Talon enthusiastically, "Yes! Well no. I love adventures, but the others in my father's kingdom look down upon it. They say it's far too dangerous, especially for me. Boy how wrong they're turning out to be!" As one of the creatures moved passed, Azaela removed her hand from the side of the ship to allow herself to stand closer to her human friend. Although she did not currently fear the creatures, she didn't particularly know if she could trust them.
As she took her first step in his direction her new human legs tripped over one another and she began to fall. Instinctively her hand clenched around the dagger that she still held by the blade, as her other hand reached out to break her fall. When she landed, the blade slid from her bleeding hand across the deck. Azaela brought her hand up to see what had happened and why her hand stung. She'd never been injured before so the pain was new, as was the sight of the dripping blood. "I'm sorry Thecaptain," she said sincerely, "I dropped your weapon."
((They only speak to him at the moment. Im not sure if they are capable of talking to others - have not thought about it. Haha.))
She was so enthusiastic and well, alive. That was a bonus. With no company with the ability to speak he would... well. He was unsure. That would not happen - she would stay with him on the ship was all. Those spirits did talk, but never nicely. They came to punish, and they did. Trying to make him feel alone, not a hard task for someone whom lives forever.
He watched her reaction to them as they climbed above deck and got to their stations - he still focusing on steering his one love. Whom thankfully the spirits had not challenged him for once again. Though her words suddenly caught his attention.
"Your fathers kingdom? So your father is a king?" Talon looked into those sapphire eyes of hers, searching for an answer. "Id love to hear more of that if you would share." Talon nodded gently, knowing not to push the subject to hard. She already came aboard his ship - that was not a very mermaid thing to do.
"Dangerous?" Talon scoffed. "As long as you are on this ship - and with me. You need never worry about your safety here." Talon knew his ship was not that safe regularly, they fought often as she had just seen. But he had lived for a long time and his swordsmanship was unmatched. More experience then anyone that is for sure. Though guns were another story - point and shoot. He did nothing fancy there, nor did he care for them all that much. Pirates started carrying them a while ago - so he found that he should try to fit in with the times. Though he dare never change his ship - it looks the same ti did when he first had it.
Ironically, just after he spoke of her safety she took a tumble over herself and drew her own blood. One of those beasts turned its heard sharply and began to come towards them. Talon reacted by temporarily leaving the wheel to crouch down alongside her.
Grabbing her wounded hand, he examined it. Not too deep, but that was not the real problem - those things stayed below decks because everything about them was unstable. "Lets try not to do that again. Those things are easily excited by injury and pain.. sick beasts really." He smirked and lifted her to her feet, then threw her over his shoulder. He went for the stairs and left the ship to steer its self - though all of this would drain him of life. He would just perform a ritual sooner rather then later.
Though as he walked that one beast watched and shambled towards them, when they reached his quarters he set Azaela down on her feet and opened the door. A rule he had to break, but anything for the living remained in his room now. "Go ahead, I need a moment." He placed his hand on his sword and approached the beast whom seemed very hypnotized by the mermaids discomfort. He made a move to get towards her but the Captain had a sword arm to worship. His blade shimmered as it sliced the thing into pieces. First in half, then off with his head and arms - all before his body hit the ground. His sword quickly in its sheath, not to be exposed to anything for too long. No need.
Though that move had been a bad one, normally these things understood power. Yet now they looked to challenge it. Every one of them ceased their task and turned to him - glaring at him with their fiendish eyes. "Get to work." He barked - but they did not budge.
"You thought we would let you have this crew as replacement?" The female spirit let out a high pitched howl that rang in Talons ears. Annoying she devil she was.
"This is what happens when you disobey us - now you suffer the mutiny of your own dark arts." The male spirit chimed in with an obnoxious tone. Though not as annoying as that damned she demon.
"Good luck Captain." They both hissed quickly before they left his company.
This was not a good sign. He turned to the mermaid and picked her up once more - quickly entering his quarters and slamming the heavy door behind him. He placed her on a dusty chair that sat at a massive table that was draped in maps and amulets, books and scrolls. Magical devices.
Still that was not the concern, he grabbed the large hutch in the corner of his room and dragged it in front of the door. "A mutiny." Talon hissed sharply, those words disgusted him. He hated those who disobeyed him and this was the most extreme case. The ship had even ceased to move - damned spirits.
He turned to Azaela and quickly bandaged her hand with a black cloth. Cheery colours did not exist on this ship, nor did any sense of mercy from the spirits. He would never forget this. "We need to get off this ship..." His words caused him much pain - truly a thing he never wanted to do. Absolutely not, but she could not fight - and fighting those masses alone was a death wish. There was no way to ensure she, or himself, would be alive at the end of it. "Unless you can fight. We must abandon ship." Talons voice had a sense of urgency, and with reason. "Could you swim us both to somewhere safe?" She would no doubt be the superior swimmer.
But those thoughts of safety, were over run by his thoughts of dread - and the feeling any captain would feel at a time like this.
Those beastly creatures flailed their arms through his aged windows, and banged upon his door. They moaned excessively and scratched at the black wood. Not the ship... They were damaging his ship. But there was nothing else to do - this day would be marked in his mind forever. The spirits would truly pay for this one. But as he listened to the wood of his ship be scraped apart, layer by layer his heart sank and he felt the urge to throw up. It was different in battle with another ship. This was at the hand of his own crew.
This day marked the beginning of those dam spirits end.
Her eyes widened at his words. Those things liked to see people hurting? Now she became afraid. What kind of cruel bring wanted to harm someone and took pleasure in their discomfort and pain? When Talon picked her up and began to carry her away from the creature, she continued studying her hand. She was truly lucky to find a human friend like Talon who was so kind and caring and not evil like those things.
As she was placed at the door she nodded in compliance. As Talon unsheathed his sword Azaela stopped. It was so shiny and pretty. What was he going to do with that thing? As the creature lunged Azaela took a step back, but luckily Talon didn't allow the beast forward. She watched as he chopped the thing apart, suddenly slightly afraid of him too. Rightfully so? She was unsure. As he turned and picked her up, her heart began to race. What had she gotten herself into?
Inside the room her eyes immediately found the table covered in human things. Her heart now felt happier, as it always did upon seeing new human treasures. Her shell pendant seemed to hum as it sat so near those magical devices. She'd seen things like those before, on one of the sunken ships in Davy Jones' locker. Were these the missing pieces? She wanted to reach out and pick up some of the things, but Talon soon moved before her to wrap her hand with more or the black cloth. Soon though, within minutes, the minor wound would be healed via the magic held in her tiny shell necklace.
"Get off of your ship?" she asked, "But the waters are unsafe," he'd said so himself. That's why she'd boarded Thecaptain's ship in the first place. She jumped at the sound of the shattering glass and nodded. In reality, Azaela had enough power to end the creatures in mere moments, but she didn't know how to use it. Her father refused to teach her the ways of the magic in her shell necklace for fear she would get into trouble with all of that power. Being that she was the only one who could harness the magic in the shell, it seemed glum for the pair now. But maybe...
"If I lend you my power, can you make them stop?" she asked, not realizing he would probably be confused by the question. "I can control water. I can make it freeze or boil, I can heal quickly if something should happen to me and I can control the wind and lightning." Well, she had the potential too anyway. As far as her personal abilities went, she could heal quickly and transform between human and mermaid, the other things she could only manage when she was greatly upset. She would have tried explaining it to him in greater detail, but the truth was, she didn't know how.
She reached out and placed a hand on his chest and closed her eyes. The necklace as well as her hand began to glow a soft blue glow. She was transferring her power to Talon, although he would only be able to use it for a short time. Fortunately, with Talon's background, he would more than likely be much better with the power than a regular person who would probably have as much luck with it as herself. As the powers left her to course through his body he was given all of the abilities she ever had the potential of learning.
When it was finished, the glow ceased and Azaela lost consciousness as she began to fall from the chair. She would be fine. As the powers left Talon they would find their way back to Azaela and she would awaken to her normal self.
"Yes." Talon nodded as she spoke, she seemed very confused about the situation. Rightfully she brought up the talk of the dangers of not being on his ship. "The dangers where these things." Talon thought back to his plan, it was a good one - just now the spirits made a mess of everything. "They were in the waters to ensure my ship was safe from any attack." Talon could not help but smirk, appreciating his own genius and planning sense.
"Though now you see they perform a mutiny on my own ship." Talon looked disgusted by what was happening, and his helplessness in the situation. Though before he could grab her to storm out of the door - and over board. Out of her mouth came the mention of power, a word any dark arts user would rejoice to hear from a mermaid.
He instantly stopped and turned to her attentively. She listed her power, and it was a good - sturdy list. Though clearly her control was not where it ought to be if she must give him the power to save them. Still, this was not a time for thinking of that. This mermaid just offered him a grand amount of power - his excitement was phenomenal and he could not help but crack a smile.
As he opened his mouth to discuss this transfer, she had already placed a hand on his chest. Touching the captain was never a good idea, but the rules could shift just this once. Not to mention the feeling was like ecstasy. The power coursing through his body, amplifying that of his own. Not just that but he had been given her powers too - he was overflowing with energy and power.
Before he could inquire as to what she had expected she had fallen to the ground, she clearly had not mastered a transfer of power that had let her remain conscious. Still, it was greatly appreciated. He could save his beloved ship now. Oh, and themselves.
Now the question was posed, of what to do. Use this momentary power to strike at the spirits directly? Or take back his ship and un-dead, immortal crew? Decisions, decisions. Both were very promising - though as much as revenge on the spirits would please him, the ship was his everything.
He would sever the bond between his ship, and the spirits - then use what power he had left to cast a temporary sealing magic on the crew. Just until a proper ritual could be performed. Then he could choose what to do of this demonic crew after the ship was his, and only his.
So it was decided. He went to the large table and knocked everything off of it. Clearing it completely and knocking everything to the ground, a mess was not a true concern at the moment. Drawing his blade to reveal just a couple inches he cut open his right hand enough so that he may draw blood from it. Now he grabbed the book from his bed and placed it on the table, skimming through it quickly to find what he needed. He did find it, and it required but a few words - and immense power. Lucky for him the second was now in the question.
Walking over to the exposed wall of the ship he drew out a complicated sign out of his blood. The blood its self was dripping with power and an eerie red glow was the symbol of such. As the symbol come to a close the ship roared with a might creak of its dark hull - the captain took as the acceptance of its one true captain.
As he raised both of his arms to his formed seal he heard the thump of a body hit the ground behind him, either Azaela got up and tumbled once more - or it was one of those mutinous crew. As she had passed out due to transfer it was clear it was the latter of the two. Turning his head he saw that eternally damned creature make his way for the mermaid, and he calmly drew his gun and shot him in the side of the head.
The beast reeled and spun out, crashing into the ground - but Talon knew a gun shot would not render it immobile for long. He turned back to the seal and mentally and magically prepared himself. The dark mist of the ship poured violently from the masts and blanketed the dark woods in an unholy twist of light. The ship creaked and the woods bled the black blood once more, his magical essence amplified by Azaela's gift of power - he could now truly call to his ship. Unlike the mutinous crew, it listened - it called back to him.
He proceeded to cut his other hand as he had done the first and placed the bloodied palms on opposing ends of the evil sign. Hopefully Azaela had no problems with dark magic, it was what he knew and mermaids tended to be emotionally unstable beings. Though she was different from any other mermaid he had noticed, for starters she came on his ship. Not only that, now had came to help save it.
Talon closed his eyes and tuned out the noise of the damned. Literally the damned too. He started his dark magic with his chants, the chants he had been studying since the first time the spirits took control of the ship all those years ago. Now a part of his dream would be realized. His chants went on, and the words were that of a long dead language. The one used in his native home, the ones his mother would have used. Those dark words were evil just to hear, they made those who listened to the words feel tainted.
Moments after he had begun the blood began to drip from his hands and create, on their own, a new symbol in the middle of the larger one he had made. When the blood met in the middle of the large symbol the blood turned a midnight black - blending into the ships wood and then, seeping into it slowly. Chants began to become fewer as the blood dissipated. When every drop of blood had seeped in the words ceased, Talons words stopped. He pulled his hands to his sides, content with the job done. His body exhausted, but it was done.
The ship roared once more with a creak of that sleek black hull of its evil self. Talon had never felt so connected to the ship before, he felt like he was now the captain. The one and true - undisputed captain.
Now his attention turned to the mutinous crew ravaging the outside of his personal quarters, and damaging his beauty of a ship. The black mist had already retreated, and black blood seeped into the wood work. Now how to get rid of these things? His body suddenly felt a way of pure exhaustion and he fell to one of his knees. That one magic had cost him too much power to do anything big now... he needed a temporary solution for now.
He looked at his bloodied hands and then brought them together, to those who did not know better he now looked as if he was praying. Though once he began his chants, there was no doubt he was not a man of God. His left hand stayed while the other drew a symbol on his bare chest - the perk of never wearing a shirt. Bringing his hands together once more he finished his chant and before he could do anything else... passed out. His body completely drained.
Though he would have been pleased. They had stopped moving all together, standing there like statues. They seemed incapable of doing anything at the moment. On a ship that would be a bad thing, dead weight.
Though it was a better option when compared to mutiny. Calamity was avoided for now, but fact remained that it was only a short term solution.
The seas tossed the blonde woman about like a piece of wreckage. Back and forth with the flow of the waves, dancing slightly with each movement. Limply she held on the a piece of driftwood while trying to make sense of sounds filling her ears. Battles fought upon the high seas... Verity's sleepy mind couldn't fathom it when simply surviving was a struggle.
Armor weighed her down, though she refused to let it fall to the sea floor. It had been such a long journey to try and reach this place, and the journey was not yet over. Around her neck hung a magical treasure which she could not possibly use, or so Verity thought. All she knew was that in the hands of the right person it could do wondrous things. Entrusted to her by an old dragon, the gem was a gift to some far off princess. At least that was the tale that ran trough her mind as the seas kept tossing her about.
Sapphire eyes slowly opened to their dim surroundings. The ship rocked steadily and she pushed herself up to a sitting position. Her powers had returned to her. She grabbed onto the chair and pulled herself up until she was standing. With the door still blocked, she turned to find Talon who must have still been in the room. "Thecaptain!" she exclaimed upon seeing him in the floor.
Azaela moved quickly to his side. Oh no, her dear new human friend! Had her powers caused this? There was blood on his hands and chest, it was everywhere. Azaela began to panic. How was she to know if a human was living or dead? She placed a hand on his arm. He was warm, was that a good sign? Now what. "Thecaptain?" she spoke quietly, unsure of what to think of his lifeless body on the floor. Would he wake?
Maybe he was hurt, and maybe she could try and use her magic to heal him. She placed both of her hands on his bare chest now and closed her eyes to concentrate. Nothing happened. She opened her eyes and frowned down at her hands. Why wasn't it working!? Azaela felt helpless. How could she tell if Talon was still alive? Surely he had a heart and that it would beat like any other living creatures. She leaned forward and placed her ear gently on his chest. She would hold her breath and wait for any signs of heartbeat or breath.
The call of potential loot was too loud, too hard to ignore. By now that other ship was probably done and sailing away from Tortuga with a satisfied belly. So Ryek barked out orders in French and spun the wheel, causing the ship to turn back in the direction they had just come from. Of course his crew balked at the order that they were going back. They really really did not like that ship that had been there. Ryek glared, set his jaw firmly, and threatened them until they went back about their duties. Though they moved about with a nervous air now. Ryek didn't care as long as they did what they were supposed to. His first mate moved across the deck now, reinforcing Ryek's word to those that were a little bit stubborn. It didn't take much to reinforce the captain's commands though.
The Devil's Dream sped towards Tortuga. Towards the rising smoke and the smell of fire. They really weren't too far out anyway, and this ship did make such good time, it was such a good ship. Slicing through the water as easily as a sharp dagger cuts warm butter. Ryek looked down at his compass he held, and blinked. His first mate had brought him the wrong one, Ryek had not wanted the compass that pointed North. He growled out an insult to his first mate in French, one that caused his first mate to blush with shame and his crew to laugh loudly. Then the pirate captain turned his back to the wheel and promptly threw the compass as hard as he could. it sailed over the short upper deck, and even a few feet out behind the ship before plummeting to the ocean with a soft 'splash'.
Ryek would probably regret that later, but then he could just send his first mate diving for it. He turned back to the wheel, frowning. The black ship was there, still and quiet though. All the crew was probably still looting Tortuga. That was well and good, he'd pull up beside the ship and take whatever was already on the ship and then sail away. Ryek laughed a hearty laugh, it seemed a good plan to him.
Her eyes went to the captain as he started to turn the ship back towards Tortuga and whispered a prayer for safety in elvish. Belle looked to bow of the ship as they moved closer to the black ship. The crew did not seem to like it either that they were going back. She did not like it either but had to go where the ship went. Before she went down the stairs to where she left the other woman and Aurelio, Belle stole one last glance at her captain.
Belle hurried down the stairs to her brother and the other woman. She looked at the woman and scowled slightly. "If you wouldn't mind staying away from the captain's belongings, please." Her eyes stayed focused on the woman as Aurelio noticed something was missing. His eyes eyes went to the woman.
"Useless junk!" she snapped at the things on the desk as she made a swipe to clear them off into the floor. As the papers, maps and other materials scattered over the floor, a compass caught Gemma's eye. She recalled Ryek placing it along with another on her map earlier. What was the significance of having both of them? It was a long shot, but she grabbed the device and looked down at her tight pants. She rolled her eyes at herself, what a poor choice of clothing for looting a Captain's quarters.
Gemma stuffed the thing into her cleavage where it could not be seen, buttoning another button on her shirt. She heard someone approaching and turned to see the two elves. She eyed the female, wondering again who she was and why she was here. "What's it to you?" Gemma snapped. "You his woman or something?" She was an elf, and he did seem like one to like things, freaky. Quite honestly Gemma didn't really care who she was. Ryek had something of hers and now she had something of his, and hopefully it was something important. If not, and this was his woman, maybe she could hold the elf hostage. She sat atop the desk and raised an eyebrow at Belle as if to say, 'Out with it.'
The elf scowled as she looked at all of the captain's papers on the ground before picking them up and putting them on his desk. Belle blushed at the woman's questions before answering, "I serve him. That's all I know." Aurelio sat shining his watch before looking for the captain's compasses to shine. He searched the desk as his sister put the captain's papers back on his desk. "Sister, where are the compasses?" Her eyes went to the desk as she searched the papers. "He threw one overboard so the other should be here." She looked around before looking at the woman. "Did you take it?" The elf said sternly as she placed a hand on her pistol.
Her blue eyes often were soft and gentle but when she got angry a fire seemed to burn in them. Only a few times has that fire spread from her eyes to her body. The day she received the scar over her eye was one of them. Belle waited for an answer as Aurelio stepped behind his big sister before running towards the stairs. She took it upon herself to protect the things her captain treasured, the compass was one of them.
Talons eyes opened slow, and his vision started out blurry. Though it came back quickly enough. Still there was this weight on his chest, and glancing down he saw what had caused it. That mermaid girl, Azaela, was checking to see if he was alive? The thought of her caring brought him a moment of bliss. At least someone did not want him dead. "I'm fine." Talon mumbled to her as to ensure she understood how he was doing. He pulled him self to his feet and proceeded to crack his neck and then back. "You okay? You passed out?" He glanced over to the girl, whom had done everything in her power to help him save the ship. Thanks to her they did.
"Thanks." Short and sweet, but it was more then anyone had ever gotten before. "Lets get out of this room huh?" He smirked and walked over to that darn thing in front of the door. Sure he placed it there, but now it blocked the way out. Grabbing it with his hands caused him no discomfort despite the wounds, and he threw it aside. It even landed on that one creature he had shot. Grabbing the door he swung it open - and their stood the mutinous crew.
Talons blood boiled just looking at them. Only one thing to do now. Grabbing them, one by one, he began to throw them over board. Each and everyone of them, they had been created by the spirits - not his own magic. As such he did not want them on his ship, the spirits may use them again to try and take his ship.
He then remembered the scratching and looked over at the door. There were no marks anywhere, even the glass had been repaired. Which did not bother him - less of a hassle for him really.
Throwing off the last of that demonic crew he turned his attention to the ship its self. Moving this thing was going to be next to impossible. He had no crew. He very well could not do everything on his own. He began to look around for something, anything that could be of use. Preferably someone else who had survived.
He found it. Though it came in the form of some splashing in the distance, again. Another mermaid perhaps? Talon walked closer to the edge of the ship and glanced down. No, it was.... shiny? A knight? Why was a knight in the ocean? Why are all these things not in their place? A knight in the ocean, a mermaid close to land. Now the undead just need to scale the side of the ship and this day would be complete. He walked back to the wheel of his ship and grabbed the same net he had used earlier, he threw it towards the moving object and yelled to it.
"Get up here." His voice was stern and cold, though he restrained himself form calling it an idiot. A suit of armor in the ocean? Nothing else described such a behaviour. Nodding his head side to side he saw something off in the distance. It was ... a ship? No, it was that ship from earlier. He knew its look well.
"Azaela, get out here." Talon yelled back to his quarters so she too could see what he saw. Which was trouble. He had no crew, and only six or seven cannons were armed from earlier. That would not take down a ship nor could he do it alone. This day progressively got better, and better. If it was not Spirit work, it was some cocky pirate whom dared to oppose him - and of course during his time of weakness.
If he had his crew he would blast that thing out of the water, and that captain would pay dearly for such an act. Though at this time Talon pondered what they could do just to survive. The ship would not sail for any other, that was for certain. So one thing came rushing to his head...
"Hurry and get out here. We are going to jump over board." Talon yelled loudly as he grabbed a spare blade for the girl. He would have nothing but time to teach her to fight if they had no ship. Though... he would surely come back for it.
((Clearly, jumping ship is always the option here. Haha.))
Ryek's ship came ever closer to the immobile ship. It wouldn't be long before they were right next to each other. Ryek's crew balked, and he sent them scurrying with few choice words in French. They really didn't like being so close to that black ship, even Ryek's ship wasn't black, just a dark grey color with snow white sails. Still his ship had struck fear into the hearts of many. Honestly he had never seen his superstitious crew this worked up before. He shook his head and yelled fiercely at them, insulting and encouraging them. Minute's would pass and Ryek's ship would begin to slow. Preparing to park beside the black ship, from where he stood it seemed empty. Then he saw it, a bit of movement on the deck, but only one or two people it seemed.
Ryek's ship was very fast, and it was rather easy to catch up to a nonmoving vessel. Still the Devil's Dream had earned her title of 'one of the fastest ships to ever sail'. There were ships faster than her, and one was a naval ship, that irked Ryek to no end. How dare a navy ship be faster than his own? He shoved those thoughts aside as he eagerly watched the other ship slip closer and closer. Or rather, watched as he slipped closer and closer to that other ship. He was sure today would be a good day. Maybe. He was often wrong about things like that, but still, he could hope.
Ryek grinned as his ship came alongside the other smoothly. Stopping almost impossibly quick without causing everything to fall over or lurch forward such a thing was an art. The anchor was dropped and the planks were being slid across, so Ryek could board the ship and take whatever treasures it held within. He came down the stairs from the upper deck, no longer needed at the wheel and his crew stood around anxiously, nervously watching the black ship and the people that could clearly be seen now. Ryek moved halfway across one of the planks, probably a stupid idea, making himself a target like that, but there was only two people there. A shirtless man and a woman. Tch. Another woman, well he wasn't looking to take any more bad luck on his ship, that man could keep his woman.
"Ahoy!" Ryek called out rather loudly. "Prepare to be boarded, by Captain Ryek Le'Raux."
