Notes: Japan is known for its cherry blossoms in spring, but spring also marks an important anniversary. Just over one year ago, there was a massive earthquake and tsunami that affected the lives of everyone living in Japan, but especially those who were living on the coast. I was lucky to be inland at the time so I didn't seen the worst of the disaster with my own eyes. But what I did see were people immediately getting to work to ensure the safety of others and gradually rebuild and restore life to normal. Rather than dwelling on the disaster, I'll never forget the inspiring strength I observed in the aftermath.

But the process is still on-going. This weekend I joined a project to plant trees that will eventually form a protective barrier for a small town by the coast that was largely washed away during the tsunami. This photo shows the saplings that I hope will grow into sturdy trees and volunteers, young and old, who helped plant them. (My trees are the two in the middle.)

This is my rolled in the farm burger. It is two patties of angus beef with cheese inside of them to make like a pie, it is cooked this way with fresh herbs. Once done it is topped with bacon, canadian ham, a runny fried egg, lettus, tomato, grilled mushrooms, onion, and mayo in my case, all on a seeded bun.

Notes: Spring to me is new life, sunshine and the outdoors with vibrant colors and soft contrasts. This photo is of my daughter playing outside in our yard. She is four months old and so new to the world. So she to me represents spring in all its new life glory especially with the overgrown grass and flowers with the sun shining down on them.

Awesome submissions, everyone, thanks!

Also, I have a picture of my own to share with you guys!

This little baby bunny fell in our pond this morning. We rescued him, dried him off, and warmed him up until he recovered from the shock and was able to go. But I got to hold him for quite some time while he was recovering. Isn't he cute?

Woody - No, I haven't seen the black bean ones before. I've had the regular veggie patties and the griller's choice. I'm also a big fan of Boca's "chicken" patties. I haven't tried their regular burgers, though.

:3 Bunny! And a baby. :D

That's so cute. I'm glad that the rabbit was alright.

Yes, they are my favorites. And I love the fake chicken patties too. I've been all about using tempah lately. I made a fantastic tempah and broccoli a few weeks ago. Nice and nutty.

Ooh, that sounds good! I don't think I've seen tempeh at any stores near me, but I could be wrong. Health foods like that are hard to find here. ><

Biggles - It's not the first time I've cuddled wild baby bunnies, either! Last year some fell in our basement window wells, so we had to get them out, then had to keep them in a laundry basket for a bit while my mom sealed the window wells all up so no more bunnies could fall in them. I got to put them in the laundry basket and pet them. :D Wait, I've got a picture of that too...

Bunnies! And sometimes we'll find a nest and peek at the babies in there too. :) We've got a bunny-heavy yard. I hope you get to meet some baby bunnies someday too!

Linnea - Well, whatever it is, I'm feasting on its soul. Just a heads up.

Notes: every spring since i was in third grade i would wait and wait with as much patience as i could muster for the snow to melt ( because maine winters and springs are oh so fickle) so that softball season would begin. now that i am older and no longer play on a softball league i still find that i await the spring just like i was a child again and get the itch to play ball just one more time.

We have some rabbits that are pets/the offspring of pets released a decade or two ago. But I haven't seen any of them in about five years now...
I raised a baby mouse I found in the basement once...

Cool entry, Linnea, thanks! I'm thrilled we're getting so many entries tonight. :)

Biggles - Aww, mice are cute! I found a mouse in my printer once. I wanted to keep him, but couldn't since he might have hantovirus and I dooooon't want that. So I released him a field far away from home and got a hamster instead.

Stop posting bunny pictures! I might die of cuteness overload. XD

We have three rabbits. Samwise Gamgee, who is my favorite! He hops around his cage and then gets very still when you open it so you can scratch him behind his ears. He's such a luff-muffin! The other two are named Bunny and Way (my dad chose their names >.<) and they aren't as nice as Samwise.

I should take a picture of the chicks for you guys. They are so cuuuuute! Lots of dark colored ones, where in past years, we've had yellow chickies.

I've had three pet bunnies. They're wonderful. they were all dwarf netherlands, very sweet little guys.

Neat! I bet their eggs were delicious! Last year we were able to buy some eggs from a nearby farmer's market and the eggs were so delicious. Unfortunately they were expensive so we can't keep buying them there, but man, I miss those eggs.

I used oil pastel, chalk and acrylic paint on canvas board and used fingers for blending with fine tipped paint brush.

A mouse in the printer, eh? How whimsical, I'm jealous.
Baby Grey, the mouse, was very sweet. Curious and personable, happy to fall asleep on your lap. Well, leg. Not big enough for a lap. It's favourite food was bananas.
