The second Ana shifted, Ryker's eyes opened. The narrow iris soon dilated to its usual size. Within a split second, his body was lightly propping up the woman's shivering body. Cooing lightly to her, he tried to calm the woman. A father's intuition kicked in, telling Ryker now was the time to coddle the lass and ease her nerves.

Chumana seemed to scared; the poor girl must have had a nightmare. It had been a while since she last had one this bad. Whatever the dream held must have been enough to push her from her slumber. Looking at her arm, he could see the remnants of the ground in it. She must have been rather started to smash her injured arm into the ground. Loose rocks on the floor also told him that she hit her head on the ceiling. What on earth went through her mind? What would cause her to shake like this? Her forehead looked sweaty and her complexion was far lighter than he ever recalled. She looked as white as a ghost and the look in her eyes seemed so hollow and lonely.

Pulling her into his chest, Ryker embraced her. His grip was tight enough to reassure her that she was safe, but it wasn't overly tight so that it would choke her to death. "Shhh, it'll be okay, Ana. I'm here and I won't let anything happen to you," he whispered into her ear. Brushing her hair ever so lightly with his hands, he pushed the locks behind her ears. His chin rested against her forehead now and his body rocked ever so gently back and forth. When she was younger, he would use this tactic to lull her into a sleep. It was his silent lullaby. If she didn't fall asleep within the first five minutes, he would start singing, further calming her. But those were during her younger days. Still, Ryker wondered if it would be wise to try it now.

"Woke up on the right side of the bed. What's up with this Prince song inside my head? Hands up if you're down to get down tonight cuz it's always a good time." He sang in his bubbly as usual voice. Ryker had one of those lighthearted voices that you might not actually expect to come from him. Then again, it was Ryker. He was also friendly and nice, so it made sense that his singing voice be the same.

Nuzzling her cheek, he tried to get the woman to sing along with him. Ryker taught Ana the song a while back. He always took the male parts and she the female parts. For the chorus they would sing together, just like the song was recorded to be.

Chumana hadn't realized how bad she was truly shaking until Ryker's arms were around her. Her eyes slowly slide up to his face, ass she tried not to shudder from the memory of his bloody form. Closing her eyes she allowed herself to once again lean on him as she had when she was younger. To accept his warm embrace as a sheltering home as it had been since the day they had met. Even though the day he had saved her was ruff on them both. Her english then hadn't been as polished as it was now, and Ryker had really struggled to understand her words through her thick accent. She had been so frustrated that she might cry, and that's when he first held her. That memory itself was much better then the memory of her dream.

Closing her green eyes the girl relaxed as the male brushed her hair behind her ear and held her tight. He had always said that hugs made you human, and at this point she couldn't agree more. As she opened her eyes again, she heard the song he had sang to her constantly for almost two years to help her sleep. It brought a slow smile to her face as he sang, and found herself simply singing along like she had been taught to. His voice was light and bubbly, while hers was smooth and melodic. Singing the happy song seemed to make whatever parts of her that were not relax do so. Ryker definitely had a way with people, and especially her. There had been more then one occasion where he had accedentally called her his daughter, and she called him father. It was truly the best way to describe their bond anyway.

When the song ended she sighed and nuzzled Ryker's cheek, leaning against him more heavily as the tiredness of not sleeping very well sank in. "Thank you...." she breathed and looked up at him with thankfulness. She was always so grateful for his presence in her life. Constantly she prayed to the gods to thank them for his beautiful soul, and for blessing her with his care. "What did I scream? I wasn't really, coherent." she asked gently. It was always amazing how dreams became fuzzy to the mind after a few minutes, but the things that stood out where the bloody form of Ryker and those fangs of that weird snake beast.

-Present time-

"Nnn..." a noise was heard somewhere near the outskirts of the laboratory where everything started and ended. Nearby there was some ruffling of leaves on a floor, then it stopped. The leaves moved once more until it revealed what appears to be a small tunnel. A small pale arm reached out and grasped what ever it could to pull out whatever was still attached to it. The small form was a mess, leaves in loose black hair that seemed to have blue and brown in it, clothing torn and what looked like dry blood. Embara slowly raised from the ground. This wasn't her most recent safe place she had found the day before, but it was deemed unsafe and she had to move.

She was going to need some new clothes that was for sure, but first she'll have to find a place to get clothes. Sighing, Embara trudged onward towards to city where the Laboratory was. On her way there she noticed there was shopping center, and a shopping center meant clothes. Smiling softly she changed direction. The closer she got she could see everything was ruined, though one store seemed to be okay for lack of a better description. It had a fallen sign with a letter missing. It read out JC PENN.. she assumed the Y was gone, but gone where she didn't know.

Embara briskly limped her way inside, and she was met with a surprising few. The inside of the store didn't look like crap like the outside did. Albeit clothes racks and shelves were strewn about the floor, but that was alright. She was standing in awe, when a twinge of pain hit her right side, and she collapsed to her hands and knees. She tried closing her eyes to relax herself and focus on something, but that was thwarted due to a heavy cough. It caused her to start to remember the events of yesterday.

-Morning the day before-

Embara was taking her usual route to survey the area to if she could find a new place to stay. The current 'safe house' she is at is beginning to not be so safe anymore but it's better than being out in the open where nature can steal your life. She glanced to either side of her, she couldn't see or hear anything so she continued on her path. It was all but a true jungle out here, traces of the civilization which was just here, still remained. But the buildings were either covered in plants or nothing but a pile of rocks with maybe metal pipes sticking out here and there. She stopped at a tree and placed her hand on it and looked beyond. She could see in the distance the building that once surrounded the laboratory. She couldn't quite see the building herself from where she was but that was okay. She knew it was still there.

Tomorrow. Tomorrow she would make the journey there. Perhaps there she would find answers or the others who are like her. Lowering her hand to her side she turned back the way she came, she remembered she saw what looked like somewhere comfortable she could stay. What she had seen earlier was a building that had collapsed that formed something similar to a cave. And it appeared to be deep enough where she could hide and they would see if anything happen to wonder by.

-Late Afternoon the day before-

Embara ran her hand across her hair covered forehead to remove sweat as she sighed. She finally moved the last of her things from her other hideout, which included but not limited to two outfits, some food, and the cleanest water she could find. Which was saying something, water wasn't quite clean as it used to be and that's saying something. She put her hands behind her head to lift up her hair, it was awfully hot around here all of sudden. She gingerly walked outside careful to duck her head on the way out. Once she was outside she peered up at the sky to it was cloudy and a bit dark. Seems like I should be expecting some rain, with how hot is... it is graciously welcomed she thought to herself.

She went back into her building made cave, all the way to back where she hit a proud uncollapsed wall which served as the back of her cave. She needed to run a check on her supplies, she assumed she would be running by now especially on water. Embara rummaged through her well used bags she managed to find a week or two before. She noted she'd need new ones and soon. But that wasn't the only thing she needed, she was going to need to go hunting as she had about a days worth of food left not including today's. And her water supply? Roughly about two glasses and a half left.

Masuyo had fallen asleep by the fire after eating. Noises from the others woke her, causing her to sit up quickly. She looked around with sleepy eyes and seen Chumana and Ryker. From what she saw and kind of overheard it seemed that the girl had a nightmare and the older male was calming and comforting her. The pair somewhat reminded her of father and daughter. This caused her to smile slightly, but it faded quickly. Now that she was mostly awake she felt out of place. She didn’t belong here, even if they were new friends. She needed to get back to her own cave.

The young woman quietly got up from where she had been laying. She grimaced slightly as she put weight on her hurt leg. It had grown stiff from sitting and lying. Pushing through the pain she limped over to the mouth of the cave. “Goodbye,” she whispered before heading out.

Once she was a few feet away from the cave entrance she listened closely. The sounds of nature around her would help tell her which way she needed to head to get home. Several minutes passed, but she got her heading. Spotting a suitable branch nearby she picked it up to use as a walking stick. That was really going to come in handy she thought to herself. Masuyo started off towards where she assumed her home would be found. The going was slow and a little painful, but she could bare it. After she had gotten a little ways away she caught herself looking back, wondering if she was doing the right thing. Something was telling her to go back and to do it quickly.

Yesterday seemed to go well.. as well as any day could go normally in the world that they live in. But that didn't last very long at all.

-Evening the day before-

She was crouched low so as not be seen by what looked to be a deer, only it was no longer a dear anymore. It was mutated, different. Luckily all that's happened to the world it didn't actually affect anything that was edible.. unless it was plants. You never know which ones would be last you'd put in your mouth or all over your food. She softly and slowly stepped alittle closer, as far as she dared to go. Embara didn't want the animal to be alarmed to her presence. Plus there was not telling what it would do, run, fight..call for help? Taking a deep breath she swung her arms out in front of her waving them flowingly through the air. Her left arm stayed pointed out infront of her whilst her right raised and fell behind her head before lowering down to chest level. He arms forming the pose you would normally see a Archer take. As she pulled her right arm back, black mist that seemed be sucked from the shadows around her swirled silently to form a bow, the string and finally the arrow. Although it was mostly a dark mist form made completely up of shadows, as it quivered it seemed to hardened into something tangible as if it was something real, but just as quickly as it had 'hardened' it dissipated back into a shadowy form.

Embara released the arrow, and watched as it found it's mark. There was a look of surprise on her face, because she actually only had to use one arrow. That was a first for her, to take something down, food wise, in just one shot. The bow she was holding lost it's form as just as if it were smoke, it spread out until became thin and was no longer there. Returning to where it was borrowed from. She stood up and started walking proudly to her kill to reap her rewards, when a new beast she never seen before beat her to it. She immediately dropped to the floor and peered out of the tall grass to see what it was doing. Was it taking what she worked for?

What is that..? she wondered. It like it was a giant bat but it wasn't, it also looked like a spider. How was anything like that even possible? She had to get out of here, she never seen that thing before and she didn't want to find out what it could do. She'll just have to go hunt somewhere else or tomorrow... she still had food for tomorrow anyway. Embara started to crawl backwards alittle before she got up, once she turned around and took her first steps she tripped and unwittingly let out a surprised noise. Embara cursed under her breath as she craned her head to look behind her to see the creature looking at her with it's many eyes.

-Last Night-

Rocks, trees, mini ponds, buildings.. all of it was whizzing past her as she ran, it was all a blur for her. Her hair was flying behind her, her bangs part on either side of her face and on top. revealing her light blue gray right eye and her blind left eye which lost most of it's color. And because of her blindness in one her she couldn't very well see the left side of her body, and that worried her. Embara peered behind her, she didn't see the creature but that didn't mean it wasn't there. She looked up in the sky, but it wasn't there either. She looked back in front her, she had to pay attention she didn't want to trip like they always did in the movies during a chase scene. If she could just make it back to building she's housed in she'll be alright. The thing looked to big to be able to get inside.

She could see it right in front her, just a few feet away. The next thing she knew she was getting side lined from her left. The ground was no longer beneath her it was just below her right side as she flew across it and smacked into a or rather landed in a pile of rubble. She left out a cry as she tried to get up and looked in the direction of the attacker. Where the hell did it come from? Embara tried again to get up but noticed a good amount of pain on her right side. Instinctively place a hand there, she felt something wet...warm. Her eyes widen as she removed her hand to look at it. She was snapped back into reality when she heard a screeching noise, narrowing her eyes and furrowing her brows she scream back at it. She raised both her arms up as if to shield her face but her arms were out abit further than that. Just before the spider bat would have collided with her it instead ran into what appeared to be a black arcing wall, and fell disorientated.

Embara took this opportunity to materialize herself a crutch so she could get up. With her free hand she held it, and the shadows that formed beneath the rubble they were upon stretched out and grabbed of two of the creatures legs before it realized what was going on. It frantically tried fly away the grips of the shadows was strong, so instead it swung out at her, but was thwarted again but this time but a small shield of darkness. Embara swung her left arm out infront her until it was straight then back to her chest, then keep going it behind her and pushed out. More shadows zipped out from beneath the rubble to form smoke and it surrounded a good portion of the neck and head, and what would supposedly be shoulder if it had any. She squeezed her hand within itself to form a clenched fist. The darkness formed a ball before it closed around the creature. All movement ceased at that moment.

Hibiki tried to shake the feelings from his head. Cion was viewing the wall once more, now curious about it after it had done such to him. Glancing over, Hibiki noticed Ryker move to the woman who seemed to be having a nightmare. During this time, the other female had seemed to slip out. All were distracted so they failed to notice her but him. She shouldn't be off on her own, especially hurt like that. He slipped away from Cion and past the other two to the mouth of the cave. He needed to find the girl, make sure she was alright. He moved out of the cave slowly, it had gotten dark by now. The feeling of it kind of creeped him out a bit, there was deffinetly something unnatural about this darkness.

He tried to focus, somehow he could still feel her, similar to how he had felt Ryker when he had been close, sure enough, he could feel the others back in the cave as well. He needed to trust in himself right? Cion had said something similar to him. Verywell, he focused on the feeling of the other female, making his way slowly towards it. He was very careful, it would do no good if he was to get hurt as well. Soon he noticed the outline of someone before him. It was her, he could sense the doubt within her mind, she was unsure about leaving or returning. "Hey...are you alright?" he asked, moving to her side. Out in the open like this, he could not help but get a worse feeling then he had before about something being off. He felt himself keeping his guard up, as he looked to the female.

Now that Ana was back to her usual self, Ryker could breathe a sigh of relief. She really knew how to worry him. Burying his cold nose in the nape of her neck, he could feel the lass squirm away from the touch. It, of course, had everything to do with his nose being cold. However, before he could tickle dear Ana to death, his actions were immobilized due to the shock of Masuyo leaving. His heart instantly sank and he wondered if it was his fault. Assuming the worse, his shoulders slouched and the smile that was once worn on his face faded.

Disheartened eyes looked around the cave. As they looked, he noticed it was really just the two of them. Nine and Cion had wandered off into the back of the cave, probably exploring it for new paths and corners. He didn't even notice them slip by as he was concerned with helping Chumana. In his mind, they were definitely exploring. It was a fairly large cave and, truth be told, neither he nor Ana really explored it much. They didn't have time to with the daily chores and hunts preoccupying the majority of their time.

Alone in the dimly lit cave, his emerald orbs locked with her pair. "Did I offend her?" he asked meekly. Ryker's hand trailed up to his heart and stopped their to feel his slow, numbed beat. It felt wrong. He had to do something. He couldn't live with himself if he didn't.

Ryker took to his feet, which put him towering above Ana. Looking toward the cave's entrance, he noticed the rain had finally stopped. At least Masuyo was walking in decent conditions. Still, the ground was damp and her leg was injured. The odds of her making it… well, they weren't in her favor. With a frown, he turned to Chumana. "Stay here, darling," he instructed her. He missed anything she might have said as he was focused on helping Masuyo at this point.

His intensions and motives were plastered across his face and she knew all too well that he would lend a helping hand when one was needed. It was just who he was. Ryker had been a guardian angel ever since he became an experiment. He rushed to those in need and helped those who were in pain. He would pick up people and dash them to a clinic, or he would dive into the frigid water to rescue those who were drowning. He just couldn't sit back and watch a life be taken away, especially in accidents.

Flicking his head toward the outside, his body rushed forward. A strong gust followed in his absence. He needed to be quick if he wanted to grab her and take her back. For him, this was simple though. Within mere seconds, he was at the foot of the mountain and just a few paces behind Masuyo. Still focused on her, Ryker still didn't notice that Nine had come to her aid.

"In good conscience, I cannot let you wander the wasteland alone. I will escort you, no ifs, ands, or buts." Now in-sync with her stride, he went to wrap her arm around his shoulder. He wanted to pull her waist close to him and latch his free hand around her hip. His plan was to serve as her crutch to prevent her from tripping. After all, if she took a fall her leg might be forever wounded.

None of that happened though, as he realized Nine was now a part of the picture. He wasn't really sure how to feel. Even though she left them and broke his heart, he would still reach out to her and help her. And now, with Nine here, he couldn't help but feel that the kid also needed assistance. That was Ryker. Not a single bad bone was in his body.

It was pretty dark out. The sun had just fallen beyond the horizon. Traveling at night was risky business but, if push came to shove, he could always run from the danger. Right now, though, he didn't sense any real threats. Still, he felt bad for leaving poor Ana alone. Before leaving, he did tell her, "If I'm not back by sunset, don't come looking for me." He felt even worse now knowing that Nine was with him. Ryker was in a pickle. Should he assist these two? Or go back to Ana?

Cion turned, looking at the others slipping out. The girl left, then nine had vanished, and now two had gone after them. He was alone in the cave now with Eight, floating over to her slowly. "What's that all about?" he asked. They shouldn't have been rushing off like that, the world was dangerous now from what they had discovered in just this one day. It was odd to process, he deffinetly had a lot to learn about humans. He tapped his faceplate a bit thinking, running possible senarios through his prosessor. Was he supposed to go to, though leaving this other alone was not a good idea.

She was injured, the other three were together. They would come back to...right? Ugh humans... He lowered himself a bit to be at level with the female still inside of the cave, turning to face her. "You two have been together for awhile havn't you? What is he up with him? And this world, what can you tell me about what you have seen so far?" while they waited, why not get some information and make conversation. There was no point in just sitting around and doing nothing until they got back. It would also hopefully help the female, get her mind off of everything as well as allow them to get to know eachother.

Thistle was glad when he finally gave in and closed his eyes to go to sleep. She would let him sleep as much as he wanted. Listening to him go on about how his skin was fine she smiled, a little. She didn’t really know what effects the experiments could have on other subjects, hence the reason she first though he was serious. Looking back at the fire she said “I always look for the positive, it’s just easier to keep moving that way.” She faded off a little when he started speaking again. She listened to him while staring blankly at the fire, she had never thought of it that way before. “That makes it sound so much better than what I thought of.” Pausing she said “See being positive is not that hard, you seem to be good at it too.”

Slightly falling asleep Thistle looked over when she heard the sharp intake of breath, as Alpha woke up. She yawned a little saying “It’s ok only a bad dream, nothing to worry about.” She was only slightly aware.
__________________________________________________ __________________

Listening to the wind Thistle knew that the storm was now over, she smiled a little then said “Alright, time to get moving.” Turning back towards Alpha she said “We also need to get food for a trip. Meaning that we have to get back to the beast you killed before other creatures do.” Pushing the door open she stepped out into the sun and took a deep breath, it was actually a nice day for what they had been through the night before.

From there Thistle and Alpha made their way back to the beast, it had been untouched besides the slightly cover of snow that was rising up over it on the one side. Clearing away the snow they were able to finally get at the beast. They gathered meat, took some of the pelt and packed it away into their bags. From there Thistle covered it back up with a little bit of snow and said “It will mask the sent for a little bit longer while we get away from here.” After everything was gathered they began to make their way South.

After walking for hours they finally began to see a distinct tree line, though the trees seemed to climb higher into the sky then she once remembered. The temperature was also beginning to rise, being able to shed the extra clothing that only served to keep them warm. As they travelled through the increasing vegetation, they took care to avoid any animal trails. Having not come across any more beasts Thistle said “Very few creatures were able to adapt to the drastic temperature change up here, I don’t know what we will face in that forest.” Alpha chuckled saying “We can handle it.”

The journey to the forest was luckily uneventful and was filled with talking back and forth. The occasional creature howling in the distance, or carcass left behind. When they thought that something was nearby, they would take cover before moving on. Thistle learned that Alpha was raised by the military and didn’t really have a family that he can remember besides them. Also that he had military training before the world seemed to collapse. Thistle had then told him that before the experiment she had been researching, that was all she mostly had done really. She liked finding new things that could help or improve the situations people were in. Also that she chose to help others because of how she saw others getting treated while she grew up. The time was also spent talking about common things such as where they lived after the experimentation was done. What they had witness while things were falling apart, and how they expected to get back to the city. There were also simple things that would take place in an everyday conversation before the world fell. So it seemed out of place but it felt good to fill the silence with talking after such a long time of there being no one to talk to.

When the two finally reached the edge of the forest they looked up towards the sky to see the tops of the trees, but that seemed impossible with the size of the branches and the leaves. Not only that but the size of the trucks left it safe to say that the trees would be over a thousand feet tall. The trees were so close together that they had to walk along the edge until they found a large enough space to squeeze though, and even that was tight to get though. The best way to describe it would be a wall of tree trunks that were a barrier to stop beasts from leaving the forest and new ones to enter it. From there every few hundred feet they would have to again find a place to squeeze through to keep moving. Another thing that was surprising were the types of trees that were growing, there were: Coastal Redwood, Sitka Spruce, Giant Sequoia, Yellow Meranti, Montezuma Cypress, Baobab, and Western Red cedar. These on their own were massive trees before the destruction of the world, but now they were monster trees that would tower over the skyscrapers of the past. Then the fact that they were all growing together, the tress that were normally growing in different parts of the world were now together in one forest presenting the fact that the world had surely change to allow for this to happen.

When Alpha and Thistle got hungry they stopped and gathered what they could to start a fire to cook over. While the food was cooking they listened to the sounds of the forest, there seemed to be completely different sounds from where she lived as well as for Alpha. Looking up at the branches Thistle witnessed some animals that she couldn’t even tell where they originated from. Though none of them bothered them yet she was ready if they ever did. These animals consisted of a possible sloth like creature that appeared to be more muscular like a bear with a short pointed tail that looked like it belonged to a bee or wasp. Its face was elongated with deep set eyes; it had scales the glistened in what light made it through the tree branches. There was also giant squirrel that had two heads and was the size of a chimpanzee of the world before. It appeared to still be the same besides the two head and size until she watched them burrow into the tree to find shelter or food. There was also a mutated bird that had seven heads that were a mix of animals such as; a snake, a mouse, a bee, a deer, a regular bird, a chipmunk, and a beetle. That all scaled to seem appropriate to the size of the bird. The creatures that she saw made her nervous, if those seeped like the creatures that stayed up in the tree branches looking for food she didn’t want to see the ones that stayed on the ground.

“I hope to get moving soon, the creatures in this forest don’t seem to be as easy to kill as the ones up North.” Thistle said looking back over at Alpha who was watching the meat cook. He looked up for a moment and looked around the forest branches before saying “If they stay up there we’re fine. It’s the ones down on the ground that we should be worried about.” Thistle rolled her eyes slightly then said “Right, didn’t think of them.” She then smiled before continuing “So how much longer until it is ready?” Alpha chuckled a little saying “When it is done cooking.” Thistle smiled then said “I hope that it is cooked then” before poking at it a little then said “Almost.” They ate when the food was cooked then packed up again to get moving again. They spent another few hours walking and squeezing through trees.

After a while Alpha heard rustling in the bushes not too far off, though Thistle could not hear it. He stopped abruptly and looked around, scanning for the source of the noise. He held out his arm signalling for Thistle to stop walking, she looked around as well at that point and asked “What is it?” already reaching for her knife. Alpha still preoccupied simply said “Shhhhhh”, causing Thistle to go quiet. As the rustling in the bushes got closer Alpha was able to pin point the direction it was coming from and stepped in front of Thistle ready for the beast to appear. The rustling got fast and was clearly headed their way. When the beast emerged from the bushes they were finally able to get a clear look at what they were facing. It was the size of a pre-world destruction tiger but has the body of a wild hog. The face of it was a shade of red and had a boney like appearance, a set of razor sharp teeth that stuck out of its mouth. On top of its head were a set of what could be described as mountain goat horns only supersized. Its feet had sharp claws for ripping a tearing but had webbed feet for what could only be swimming, and had a slicked back black fur coat.

It took Thistle by surprise as she had never seen anything like it before, but Alpha acted quickly and got them both out of the way before the thing could barrel into them. He quickly got ready again for an attack. Thistle again stood beside him with her knife in hand, there was no way she was letting him take this thing on alone seeing as he was hurt. As the beast charged at them once more Thistle stepped forward holding her knife pointed out in front of her ready to change her density when it hit. But before the beast could even get close enough Alpha once again stepped in front blocked the animal by gripping its horns and shoving it off in another direction. As it was regaining its balance and direction Thistle turned to him saying “I could have killed that thing already if you let me!” Alpha just gave her a glance more interested in the beast that was on its way again towards them and said “No you could have gotten yourself killed.” The beast hit again and Alpha threw it against a tree before saying “Now if you don’t mind find a safe place while I get rid of it.”

Thistle stepped aside for a moment and let Alpha deal with the creature. As she watched it just looked like a battle of pure brute strength. Where the creature got a few lumps and gashes but so did Alpha. After a few moments of this Thistle then asked “Can I help now?” She wasn’t one to pester or put down anyone so she had humoured his act of valiance. Alpha just gave the quick answer of “No, I’ve got this.” She watched as the beast attacked again and he threw it off to the side before grabbing a nearby rock for the next time it attacked. Finally sick of just standing back Thistle stayed out of his sight and walked up behind him. When he was holding the beast by one horn and hitting the side of its head with the rock, she changed the density of her arm along with the knife and reached through his body and into the creatures skull before only changing the knifes density. She pulled the knife out again and walked around to the side just letting her arm travel through his body before turning it back as well. Cleaning off the blood she stated “Next time, no wasting time.”

Once Alpha had seen what Thistle had done the sensation of her arm through his chest struck him and as she moved it sent chills up and down his spine. He dropped the beast and the rock before saying “I would have had it in moments if you had let me finish it off.” He quickly glanced over the wounds he had gotten and classified them as just flesh wounds before adding “Besides I need to keep up my shape in case we face any bigger threats.” Thistle smiled a little before saying “Or you just wanted to be heroic, which is nice. A change from the past” he looked away slightly ignoring the comment saying “We should take some of this meat as well. Don’t know when the next time we will find any.” They then sat down and took some meat for the creature while keeping an eye out for any more threats. Once that was done they were on their way once more.

Seeing as how he had ignored her last comment about him being heroic Thistle decided to move onto more light hearted conversations. She asked “So, you go by Alpha but your real name is Vitruvius right? You mentioned it back at the shack. What does it mean?” Alpha looked over at her for a moment then ahead again before saying “Yeah, it’s a historic thing, Marcus Vitruvius Pollio; he was a soldier long ago, even before the old civilisation, and an architect, he built and designed things, and set the ratio for the perfect human. Hence the Vitruvian man” He paused then said “The people that created me, I think that was what they were trying to do, create the perfect human” He paused for a second to make eye contact "but after me, the others, you, they were trying to improve on perfection, and perhaps they achieved that?" Thistle walked closely beside him listening to his story, when he had finished she smiled saying “Wow, that is actually awesome. To be named after a historical figure, I mean it would be such an honour.” Alpha just smirked at the comment then asked “So what about you, why Thistle if you say you’re not a prickly person?” Thistle laughed a little then said “My mom was big on plants, and when I was born she was in a phase you could say.” Pausing she thought for a moment then said “Really no meaning behind it though so not as honourable as yours, unless you count the self-protecting plant as honourable.” "Well I do keep tellin' ya Thistle don't put yourself down, the thistle was a symbol of nobility for the celts, ancient warriors they were, and a group of people, a country called Scotland.” Alpha replied. Thistle smiled saying “I never actually thought about it that way before. Oh, and I don't think they were trying to improve it, just try new things.”

After a few moments the duo squeezed between the last wall of trees they were to face as what laid on the other side was a barren landscape that gave way to what appeared to be the skyline of a deserted city. Thistle literally jumped up and down saying “Finally a city! We are close I can just feel it!” she turn and gave Alpha a hug. She let go realizing what she had done and recomposed herself saying “Sorry about that, first time I have seen a city in a while.” When Thistle had hugged him Alpha smiled slightly, and chuckled a little when he watched her recompose herself. He began walking again saying “It’s fine, though it is just a city you know.” Thistle ran a little to catch up to him and said “Hey, the frozen North is not what it’s cracked up to be. The largest place you could find maybe had 150 people in it.” Alpha just looked over at her a little and chuckled, before continuing on.
__________________________________________________ __________________

Seeing as they had been traveling for the day Thistle looked over saying “I think that it might be a good idea to find a place to sleep for the night.” Seeing the cliffs she said “Maybe there is a place to stay there for the night before we get moving again tomorrow morning?”

Thistle was beginning to feel the exhaustion from the day then had, she normally walked a lot more, but through the forest was a different story. She stretched her arms above her head a little to try and loosen up some of her muscles. She also swiped some of her hair out of her face and wrapped her red ribbon around it so that it wouldn’t fly back into her face.

The young woman shivered slightly, she still felt uneasy and unsure. Hearing someone approaching she glanced back to see Hibiki. Masuyo gave him a slight smile. “Yeah, I just needed some air. Plus I wanted to give those two some space.” Her eyes lowered and she laughed slightly as she continued to walk. “Do you think it was wrong for me to have left like that?” It was clear something was bothering the woman by the look in her hazel eyes and expression she had, not that Hibiki could see them. Having seen Chumana and Ryker like that had stirred something inside her. The loneliness she had felt for a while and buried deep inside was bubbling to the surface.

She froze when Ryker put his arm around her, pulling her close. Looking up at the taller male she started to speak. “Ryker…I,” she lowered her gaze. She had already felt unsure, but now she felt awful about leaving without a word the way she had. “Gomenasai, it’s just that seeing you and Chumana looking so much like father and daughter. It made me realize how much I really miss my family.” A heavy sigh came from her before she looked up at him again. Suyo fought the tears she felt coming, knowing how pathetic she probably was right now. “I don’t know where they are or if they are even still alive. In some ways I hope they have passed on to the next world so they aren’t out there fighting to survive in this miserable place this one has become.” Her voice grew quiet, almost a whisper. “Is it wrong of me to think like that?” A few tears rolled down her cheeks, not being able to hold them back any longer.

Fighting the urge to pull away from him she stayed leaning against the male, letting him take her weight. “You’re too kind to a person like me. Anyway I left so I wouldn’t be a bother to anyone with my emotions like this,” a small laugh came from her. “I guess I still became a one even though I had good intents and on top of it I must look a pathetic little girl instead of a young woman right now.” Having cleared the air so to speak she felt better. It seemed a little strange how comfortable she felt around these people though she didn’t know them.

When she realized that it was getting dark already she made a decision, knowing full well the dangers that lurked in the darkness. She looked back at Hibiki and then up at Ryker. “Let’s go back. I’ve caused enough trouble already and I’m sorry for that.” Once more she looked at the younger man. “Thank you, thank you both for coming after me and listening to my rambling.”

After waiting who-knows-how-long, Skylar left her hiding place. Her leg had developed a cramp, but that was the least of her problems. She shook it off and went over to the entrance of the building. But as she was walking over, she noticed something. No, someone! There was a figure standing in the doorway. Sky didn't dare draw attention to herself. Was she good? It was hard to know, she hadn't found another human before. There was a part of her, thrilled with the fact that there was another person.

She snapped out of her own thoughts when the girl fell and started coughing. Instincts taking over, Skylar ran over to the girl and helped her up. "Hey? Are you okay? Let me help you." she said as she helped the girl over to where Sky had made her blanket fort. "You can lie down here, oh, by the way I'm Sky.

Chumana watched as Ryker went off to chase after the other girl, and she let out a heavy sigh. Ryker was always like that. Whenever they had met someone and tried to save them or keep them safe and they left or were about to die Ryker focased every fiber of his being onto that person. Often times it made her feel very unimportant and alone, but then again she had caused so much death herself that she figured she deserved that kind of treatment. Looking down at her wrapped arm, she closed her eyes and started to lock away her emotions again. She didn't like showing them, Ryker was really the only one she had opened up to after she became this teleporting expierament.

Hearing Cion she looked over and shrugged to his question. "I am not sure. I believe she is a bit overwhelmed and they are going to make sure she is alright... But that is a guess." she said cooly and watched as he lowered more to her height as she was sitting down. Looking him over she remembered when the doctor was working on him she remembered playing with him as expierment 7 was finishing up. "He had a ruff past... He lost everything and now he just tries his best to help everyone and everything. He has no bad bone in his body... And gets walked over a lot unless I am there." she said softly and then shook her head. "I am not sure how to describe the nature and how its been warped... The things that humans did to it caused morph and change in painful ways... Many animals now have logical thoughts and can communicate better then before." she explained as she looked out into the dark entrance of the cave. "They have become angry and full of hatred."

Hibiki paused for a moment as the other showed up, he hesitated now from making any move. The other seemed to be unsure about him being there, having come after the female as well. He felt even more in the way now. He did not wish to keep them out here any longer than they needed to be. "We should get going" he agreed, he looked down for a moment. He knew from the thought of super speed, the other would get her back faster than he could, and she would be supported in good hands. "Take her back please...I will meet you there" he turned and stepped away.

He needed to think, to be alone and a walk back would allow him to do just that. This day was interesting indeed, but he felt out of place in this new world. The female was right, seeing the two before in a family like manner made a slight emptiness open up within his heart. He couldn't begin to understand, since his own memories of any kind of family were basically nonexistant right at the moment. He sighed a bit, looking back up at the cave in the distance before him hidden by the falls and the darkness. This was going to be a long night, as well as a long life. He needed to get used to now, find out what was going on as well as what he was missing memory wise, but where to begin?

The female seemed to have an affectionate side for the other. Listening to her speak, he processed the information. Families were important to one, though being a robot, he did not have one himself really. It was known to him that many of the subjects, experiments, had lost quite a lot or been through a lot in the process of becoming what they were. He felt an odd feeling rise within him, was it sadness? He was still getting used to the thought of being able to feel anything due to his advanced systems. He patted her on the shoulder a bit, that was a sign of affection and an attempt of calming someone down right? Sympathy and compassion right?

Looking up at the robot, Chumana smiled slightly as he patted her shoulder. Sighing she looked back at the entrance to the cave and shook her head. "It is sad to know that trying to help the people we love through the process of getting enhanced, most of us lost what we treasured." she spoke softly and leaned forward, and traced a design of a tribal sign in the dust on the floor. "Bonds are strength, and causes love and courage... When we loose someone, those bonds are cut, and that person looses all they gained... Left to try and rebuild themselves, but always carrying a scar." she explained softly as she retraced the symbol over again. "I remember the scientist talking about giving you feelings. So you could help me when I was activated, but you were never finished when I was abandoned." Ana explained and looked back up at the robot. "Did he plan nine or just made him out of hope that having one extra enhancement would give us that much more of an edge? I do not know... I only remember the days before the tests, talking about how I was the last... But then you and Nine showed up, so something must have changed for the doctor." thought aloud and then sighed.

"It is very hard to live when you don't know your purpose. Or have lost it." Chumana said suddenly and closed her eyes again. "Feelings are confusing. And faith is often shaken. I can only imagine how confused nine is... I remember how lost and broken I was when I awoke." she said, her memory racing to the blurry memory of being lifted from her chamber, and raced out of the labratory. She remembered the snarrles and howls of angry animals, the heavy breathing of the man carrying her. She had been dropped in a cavity of a tree, hidden from sight, and a liquid dumped on her to mask her scent. Remembering those brown eyes looking at her with worry and sadness, she watched as he ran away leaving her alone forever, and the beasts running by after him.

"Yer ya right Thistle"

The sun had got very low, and they didn't have much time left before it was nightfall, perhaps over an hour, two at the most. Some of these plants were illuminecent, but one could easily put a foot wrong and break an ankle, or miss a toxic creature on the ground. The dim lines of light on some of the plants gave the shadows an Eerie blue and green glow.

"Towards the rocks, probably the only shelter nearby, the city looks too far away"

Alpha began to make his way towards the cliffs. He watched Thistle stretch her arms high defining her figure, and then playing with the ribbon in her air, that lovely shade of purple. Alpha felt angry at himself.

"You're twice her age" the boys voice laughed out at him

But why did he feel so much towards her he wondered, he had met another experiment before, and it had been a strong connection too, they were such a good person, he had felt it when they had first met, when Alpha had chosen them for the project, he knew they were ideal somehow, and he knew afterwards he had not been mistaken. The long journey that he had been on had been too long, and he urged to get back to see them again. He should have never had left... But then again everything happens for a reason, and he wouldn't have met Thistle, with those blue stars for eyes.

Alpha smiled slightly, well he was glad to have her company, and she had saved him , if not from this world from himself, and losing hope. Despite her vulnerable look, he knew she was tough, tougher than she or himself would care to admit. And he liked to give her a bit of a hard time.

"Keep up slow coach, you'll attract those leech rats if you go any slower"

Thistle nodded “Ya I am sure we can make it to the city tomorrow though, I mean we made it this far today.” Since the day had already been filled with walking she knew that she would be walking a little slower. But hearing Alpha mention leech rats Thistle jumped a little saying “What!” She did however move a lot faster now. Walking side by side she also kept scanning the horizon in the fading light in case anything was approaching them.

Looking over at Alpha for a moment Thistle asked “Are you serious about the leech things?” she paused and looked around some more again saying “I’m so used to the cold and few creatures, this is all so different” She didn’t have to wear her heavy coat anymore or her mittens but the amount of creatures she had seen today were more that she would see in a month back at the village.

Reaching the cliffs Thistle looked up and along them searching for an opening somewhere. Although that seemed to be a more difficult task than she thought. Staring up at the cliffs she said “Well, looks like we can climb a bit.”

When she came back from from her little reverie she noticed there was alittle blood on the floor, and at the same someone from somewhere.. she didn't know where came up to her and started to help her up. Quickly hoping the other one didn't notice what she wiped up before she was standing up and completely on her own. Though she still needed the support, her side wasn't feeling all to kind to her. Embara looked over to her, she seemed.. normal for the most part. She never really met another human before atleast for a long time. So it was quite of a shock, plus she thought she was alone here.

Embara took the chance to look around some more as the other girl helped over to her blanket fort. It reminded her of her pillows forts she used to make inside her room. Offering a faint smile, she answered her. "I..I'm alright now thanks you you. Do.. you live here?" Embara, with the help of Sky laid down. "I'm Embara but I would like for you to call me Leila." Embara moved around until she was on her left side, where it didn't hurt at all. "How long have you been here? And.. uh do you perhaps have any bandages?"

"The leech rats?"

Alpha gave a concerned look, and nodded

"Oh yes, rats that will cling onto your legs and drain your blood!"

He tried not, smile, but a small grin appeared at the corners of his mouth, he could see Thistle looked a bit concerned, he guessed things really were very different, he hadn't thought about that so much, being far away from where you were from. But he thought allowing her to think on that wouldn't be too good.

"But it's the parasitic moles you have to really watch out for"

Alpha turned to Thistle and put his hand on her head and messed her hair

"They suck out your brains through your feet mwahaha" he joked, laughing this time

Ryker didn't like the idea of leaving poor Hibiki alone but the lad asked for it. Who was he to argue with a teenage man about his space? He had no right and decided he would listen to his wish.

Turning to Masuyo now, he gave her a nasty glare. "I don't ever want to hear you talk about yourself in that tone or manner ever again. You're a beautiful young woman who is more than capable of surviving in this desolate wasteland. You've strength beyond your recognition and you're far more brilliant than I. You've been given a gift and you don't abuse it. Despite the hardships, you still press forward and embrace the unknown. You're no trouble to us, hun. Besides," his face moved closer to hers, "I consider you family." His voice called over to Nine. "And don't think you're not a part of this family too, mister."

His fingers teased her stomach as he tried to tickle her, hoping it would bring a laugh to her lips. Nuzzling her close, Ryker asked her to firmly hold on. She knew exactly what was about to transpire as he had experienced it earlier that day. Within moments, the world was a blur to both. It was no more than five-seconds until they phased through the water. The high-speeds he traveled allowed him to escape mist from the fall. Now inside the cave, he looked over at Ana and Cion. A smile was across his face.

"And she thought she could outrun me." Turning his head to mock Masuyo, he boasted, "Pffft! Yeah, okay. I was a five-time Olympic gold medalist!" It was obviously a lie, but he could have won with such ease, if he were allowed to partake in the game. Propping her back on the cave's ground, he moved toward the dimming fire to warm up his chilled hands. His head turned around to glance outdoors. "I hope it doesn't snow," he moaned. "It's rather chilly out this evening. Might have a frost come morning."

When Ryker glared at her she shrank slightly, preparing to be scolded. Once he had finished she looked at him a little confused. Family? Had he really called her family? The word did have a nice ring to it. Masuyo smiled a little and did as told. Things had been a blur on the way back, which was definitely not something should could get used to.

She laughed, “I would have made it if my leg wasn’t injured.” The young woman stuck out her tongue at him. “A gold medalist…sure.” Once back on the ground she stood there in place, her eyes following the male then turned to the mouth of the cave. Leaving Hibiki didn’t set well with her either, but she was sure that he needed some time to himself as well after everything that had happened today.

Masuyo hobbled over and sat near the fire. “You don’t like the cold?” The cold didn’t bother her much and she actually liked the snow. Well other than the fact that it made it easier for the monsters out there to find you if you weren’t careful. She warmed herself as she sat there and shifted a little uncomfortably. Really she wasn’t sure what to say or do after what happened. Her eyes watched the dying flames dance as she awaited an answer.

Talking and watching the fire would keep her mind off the pain. Now that she was still and resting just how much her leg hurt was finally hitting her. In her mind she was laughing at herself. You’re so stupid sometimes. Pushing yourself to walk and attempt to go back to your cave with an injured leg like this. Though I suppose I wouldn’t be Suyo if you didn’t do such things. Pulling herself back to the moment Masuyo looked over at Chumana and Cion. “I was wrong to have left like I did. I’m sorry for causing problems.” The look in her eyes was sincere as she apologized the younger woman and robot.

After their discussion Alpha began to climb up the jagged rocks, some places quite easily clambered over, other places needed the pair to help each other. The light was rapidly fading now, they wouldn't be able to climb in complete darkness, it would be almost suicide. But Alpha could smell it long before he knew if he was nearby, but fire, that was still the domain of man. Forest fires occurred but not around cold rocks, and no creature he knew could make a fire. He continued to climb, the sun well over the horizon, it's red glow gone, but up ahead another dim light could be seen flickering sixty feet perhaps more, must be a campfire, but he held himself back from shouting. Caution first he thought. And edged closer slowly.

Cion moved over to the opening of the cave. He looks out of the falls, scanning the area for Nine. He didn't see anything, so a slight intrest perked into his mind. He floated over to two. "Where's Nine?" he asks, poking an arm like apendange at the other. He hoped the other was doing well, out there in a world he did not know about, as well as danger all over the place. There were beasts out there, ones that were going to kill whatever pleased them. It was a dog eat dog world as humans used to say back in the old days. He was programed with a lot of information, including old sayings and things from older years. There was no use in pondering this at the moment, he needed to make sure that Nine was at least safe for the moment, before he could relax and get back to his conversation with Eight.

Hibiki sighed, feeling a slight breeze as the other two wized by. He was alone now, in the silence and darkness of the night. Taking a breath, he looked up at the overbearing mountain before him. It was cold, and even though he seemed to be alone, he could feel the presence of things lurking in the dark far off. For now they did not notice him, and he was not planning on allerting them any time soon to his being here. He slowly began climbing, allowing the cold air to fill his lungs with each breath. It was refreshing and nice, just what he needed to help clear his head. So, from what had happened, this was the future...well since he was last awake anyways.

He was number nine of how many he did not know, but they all seemed to not be fully human anymore. As he had seen by his own power, he was no differense in a sense. He took another breath, he was going to have to get used to this. With those things out there however, power was a plus. He needed to get some training in...that was how they did it right? He paused for a moment, looking back out over the darkness beyond his location. This was very odd, and a lot to take in.

He figured the girl and Ryker had made it back already, he wondered if either of the now wounded females were feeling better. In one day one had wounded her hand, the other her leg. They would be in danger if they were unable to heal safely. Then again with this reality, it was almost impossible to know what would happen and if any of them would survive. A growl to his left caused him to pause, he could feel the mind of something there, something inhuman but it did not feel completely threatening. He stood still, as what seemed to be a large muzzle moved closer, examining him.

He could feel the hot breath of whatever it was hit him, causing him to close his eyes. The beast must have stood well over his height, but for the moment it made no move to harm him. Instead, a large thin tail like apendage wrapped around his ankle as he listened to the heavy footfalls of the creature moving around him. How had he not heard it approaching, he needed to be more careful. He might have been able to feel the presences of others, but if he allowed thoughts and worry to cloud his senses he was going to die. Another growl followed slightly as the beast moved closer.

Hearing him describe the leech rats Thistle paled a little. But when he said that those were not to be what she was worried about she paled even more. When he placed his hand on her head and messed up her hair she shrieked thinking that it was one of the creatures he had described. Hearing him laughing though she turned to him saying “This is not a laughing matter! You scared me half to death; I thought that your hand was one of those creatures!” She turned back towards the rocks slightly mad though at the same time she was glad that it was not one of the actual creatures. She smiled to herself a little; it had be such a long time since she had human contact that he had almost forgotten how to joke around. She started to laugh to herself then said “I’m sorry; it’s just been a really long time.”

When Alpha began to climb Thistles began to follow, trying to be extra careful since she normally did not climb and the rocks below looked pointy. She didn’t really see the dim light until they were close to it and Alpha was inching closer. She was close behind him when the rock she held onto broke free and her foot slipped. She yelped quietly as she regained her footing, and quietly said “I don’t climb! Flat surfaces, no sharp pointy rocks that can stab me when I fall.” She grasped onto the rock wall tightly before looking back up at Alpha to see how close he had gotten and began moving again.

Thistle also heard growls, not knowing where they were coming from Thistle gave a quick look around. When here eyes finally landed on what appeared to be another human she gasped a little. But not in the shock of another human but the beast that was stalking around him. Turning to Alpha she said "We have to help! It's another person and that beast is circling." With that she began to make her way again across the rock face but towards the individual this time.

She positioned herself above the two and pulled a rock off the wall to throw, that was until she saw the beast getting closer to who she could now see was a young male. Panicking Thistle looked around a little to see if there was anything bigger to use then the small rock she held in one hand, seeing nothing in sight she looked back down at the two. Seeing as she didn't really have any other useful plans she tied the ribbon tighter in her hair and jumped towards the beast that was circling the boy. A few rocks fell down as she jumped and she called out to the young male "Watch out!" Just as she hit the back of the beast she shifted it's density letting it fall into the rocks itself. Once it was halfway into the rocks she let it shift back and slid off of its back and held her arm out in front of the boy trying to move him back a little as the beast could still move it's head. From there she took out her knife and stabbed it through it's eye.

Pulling the knife out she cleaned it and put it back before turning back to the boy asking "Hey, are you alright?"

Sky was almost on auto-pilot. In her head, she was screaming with questions. Who was this girl? How is she alive? Are there other humans still alive? What are the chances of her meeting another person, today of all days. After she helped the girl to the blanket fort, she processed the questions she had asked. It was almost a daze, and Sky had trouble keeping her head clear on a normal day anyway.

Her name was Em...something. She said call her Leila. That, Sky could remember. Did she live here? No, well, yes. Not really? Hard to explain.

"I guess you could say I live here. It's really only camping out, I've only been here a few hours." She smiled at Leila. "Lucky you that I was here, huh?" she added. "Let me look for some bandages, I'm not really sure. I don't think JC Penney's had a pharmacy isle. But there might be some nearby. Wait here." Not like she could go anywhere.

Having everyone, well nearly everyone, back in the warmth of the cave made Ryker happy. It was then when he realized just how tired he was. Drained of his energy from all that speeding around, he found himself tucking away from the group. He pulled his fur blanket around himself so that only his green eyes poked out from behind it.

"It's fine. Never think you're a bother. It's nice having more around. Oh, and there's more furs in the back if you want to sleep on something other than the hard cave floor." His eyes shifted to the robot that poked him. "He wanted to get some air. He's at the foot of the mountain. He's been threw a lot today so I'm sure he's just mulling it all over." A yawn escaped from his lips.

Ryker wanted to stay awake long enough to see Nine return, but his heavy lids closed before he saw his return. He wouldn't rise until the morning's rays broke through the cave's opening. Even for him, it was late to wake around that time (about 8AM). But until his eyes opened, he was left to his dreams. They were strange and made no sense, but he enjoyed the thought of chasing a bunny through the forest. It was a carefree act and it was set in brighter times. A time where the world wasn't wild with beasts. A smile curled up on his face as he bounced after the happy bunny. And that's how he calmed himself after a long, tiring day.
