Oh no! I'm kinda the same. Started my story, made it to almost 18,000 words and then lost all motivation. I feel like I've fallen into NaNoWriMo quicksand and there's no one with a vine to help me out.

*dusts off avatar and profile*

I have not been on this site in a while, but I was wondering if there is anyone out there who is participating in National Novel Writing Month this year? If so, are you on track as far as word counts go? Is you plot going the way you envisioned it? Has your novel been hijacked by your characters and held for a ransom involving proper grammar and cookies?

I am so far behind on my word count it is pathetic. But this is my first year, and my first time trying to write a novel, and my goal this year is just to write a little bit every day, and actually see a project all the way through. I usually have a problem with things like that.

Anyway, tell me your thoughts, Menewsha! I want to know that I am not the only crazy writer around here!

Thanks!

I've yet to work on my story since the first day... I'm hoping that my break from college will give me time to write though. ^^;

I tried to do it this year, but I fell behind very fast with a two week period of homework and more homework, so saddly I can't continue this year. however a friend of mine is on 20,000 words and this is her 6th year participating. I wish you luck and all other author's attempting NaNoWriMo this year!!!

I think it's a little late for me to start now this year. But I definitely want to next year! My friend at school is doing it and I was all like this is an awesome idea so yeah. I will xD

To those who feel discouraged - try to remember the reasons why you decided to write during this year's NaNoWriMo. Did it sound like fun? Have you always wanted to write a book? Try to find inspiration from the same source that inspired you to write in the first place. You could also try looking for a mentor in the forums - someone who has done this before, and can help you when you get stuck or discouraged. If 50,000 words seems like too much, try setting a smaller goal like 30,000 words.

ASingingGaijin - while it isn't impossible to start this late in the game, you are probably right that it would be better to start fresh next year. Brainstorm some ideas and get psyched for the 2010 NaNoWriMo!

It's great that you'll have a friend to do it with. I wish that I had managed to talk more of my RL friends into doing it with me (especially since lots of them are unemployed right now anyway, so why not?) but only one friend sounded interested, and as far as I know she never found time to do it (but she is finishing her thesis, so she has an excuse).

Thanks! I'm sorry real life came and kicked ya in the butt on that one. Hopefully you'll be able to do it next year.
I'm just over 13k, and I don't think I'll win this year, but that's cool. It's really fun anyway.
Thanks again for the support!

For anyone who feels they've fallen too far behind in NaNoWriMo and plans to just stop and do it next year, don't forget about Script Frenzy in April! It's a little different from NaNoWriMo in that you aren't writing a book but rather a screenplay, but it's still a lot of fun and might help you out in developing story ideas. Script Frenzy is by the same people that do NaNoWriMo so you can find the information for it on their website.

Good Luck to all NaNo-ers still writing! Hope you reach your goals, whether their 50k, more, or less.

I wasn't going to do it this year because of school but seeing as I dropped out I think I'm going to try to do it. I know I'm really behind but I might still be able to do it. And at least it will give me something to do.

You can do it! Write like crazy. We're all rooting for you. There's still half the month left, so good luck!

I just got too busy with college that I really didn't have time to write.

31k, and not enough time to finish up to 50k. Oh well. I put up a good fight, and I have no regrets (except, you know, losing)!

thanks. I think I just have my priorities messed up. I really should have written my research paper instead of my novel these past few weeks...

I actually got up to over 50,300, but my computer mistranslated the text, and I had to leave about two thirds of a page out when I submitted the text. It turned out to be 50012 or something like that, but I won nonetheless. Congrats to all participants. Oddly enough, however, I've found that editing the novel is harder to do than writing it.

I don't think a kid should make you lose hard core. I have three adorable children, and I have a job with the coast guard as well as a paper rout to run every morning. But better luck next year. I hope to be reading about your story in November. :)
