what color ballcaps do your kids wear?
Yeah, it's kind of shocking, but Japan is a very safe country so I guess I can understand. I don't teach the really young kids at elementary. Usually it's just 5th and 6th grade. But those kids have red caps.

@Hatake: Ah, well kids at Japanese schools, which is where I teach, wear caps that are a specific color. Little kids typically wear yellow hats, if I recall correctly, but since I teach the older grades they wear red caps.

Hello all.

That is an interesting system. Is it just to differentiate different grade levels?

I was just going to ask the same thing. Like how different schools have specific uniforms in japan so much so that it's sometimes easy to tell which schools people go to by their uniform?

I don't know that it's much of a "system" per say. It's not like the kids are required to wear their caps every day at my local elementary school. They wear plain clothes and have name tags that show their grade and class number. The hats are part of their uniform only when they are dressed in their gym clothes.

But the junior high school I teach at definitely has set uniforms - one for summer, one for winter, and sportswear. Each school's uniform is unique. They're required to wear them at school, but I often see students dressed in uniforms any time of the day, sometimes even on weekends. I think people just like wearing uniforms.

I know I wanted a uniform when my friend visited japan back when we were still in high school. I almost got one as a gift from his host family member, but they couldn't find it in time and he had to come back to the states. It was part of the student ambassador program and only a few students got selected to go on these trips. I got selected, but unfortunately wasn't able to raise enough money to make the trip in time.

Hey Kitami, how are you?
I love your use of the new CI. I'm going to get it later once I've saved up enough.
