Most of the people here aren't Christians, they're Taoists or Buddhists or whatever. So not much Christmas celebration, though the businesses still have merchandise of it everywhere.

What's a polar vortex?

to me, it's normal winter weather, but last year places that have super easy winters got hit with super dry, frigid, well below freezing temperatures. like most of Chicagos river was completely frozen. and where the American lives (about 3 hours south of Chicago) the entire city shut down for days, because it was so cold.

So like...an abnormal winter weather that's more severe than usual?

pretty much, there's definitely science to it than that, but that's the very basic of it.

Ah. I don't want a polar vortex to happen where I am since it'll never be able to reach the temperatures enough to get us out of school/work anyway. Or if it does, the rest of the world will have already been frozen over.

yeah, like I was here when that happened last year and I thought it was ridiculous, because up where I live in Canada it's much worse during winter.

I'd prefer to stay closer to the cold.

I'd prefer to stay somewhere that's slightly less warm than here, but not too cold either at the same time.

it's already been snowing back home this week and it was like in the negatives Celsius here.

...And here I am, sitting in the dorms, in shorts and a t-shirt, with a fan blowing directly at me because it's so hot.

we have the heat on and a space heater on downstairs for the animals.
but we do have our bedroom windows open a bit. I can't stand constant hot air.

I'd just wrap myself up into a burrito rather than use heat...but then again it's nowhere near as cold here.
