I'm not a huge fan of sweet and sour. I love the smell of it, but just don't like the taste as much as I wish I did.

So I looked up what sour cream is:

sour cream

cream that has been deliberately fermented by the addition of certain bacteria.

I'm guessing the term sour comes from the fermentation process which in terms of milk, would be souring.
