The bird-woman flinched as the rogue darted toward her, then looked confused as the ring was pushed back toward her. She took it, as that seemed to be expected, and tried to gauge the responses of her captors as the strange woman apparently seemed to be pleading her case.

Mention of the arrow, however, brought something besides fear to the Firebird's face. She looked past Aneja, peering through the shadows for her attacker. She spotted the harpy easily, and a look of anger flashed across her face. She began chanting under her breath, barely audible to the bard, rogue, and wizard but not audible at all to anyone further away.

Everyone except Aneja-- whose back is to the Firebird-- may roll against WIS-4 to spot the flash of anger. You're at a penalty because of the distraction Aneja is causing. Rave will see it, and may roll vs. her WIS or INT to snap out of Fascination.

Also, Alexis gets to roll WIS - 5 to resist the Firebird's spell! Good luck!

Alexis was suddenly very confused, she watched as the scene unfolded and went from first guilty to the bird woman and even contemplated climbing down the tree and grabbing up her first aid kit to now somewhat terrified as a spell from the firebird was aimed at her. Ok so maybe shoot first was not the solution in this situation but how many fire bird ladies were around this area that people knew about anyways. She quickly began to hop to the branch lower then her in hopes of avoiding the spell.

The sudden appearance of sparkling lights instead of water, silenced the lizardfolk too. She flipped her hands over a few times before muttering under her breath. "Damn Jack." It wasn't often that the wrong god heeded her calls but this was kind of embarrassing. She hoped the others just thought that was her plan the whole time, yeah, a water cleric casting light spells.
The trinket didn't seem all that important to Draza, it wasn't something that would help in her mission. And her fingers were far too fat to wear it anyways.

Phaelan was taken aback by the little thief snatching the ring that was offered to him, but felt a little better that she had given it back to the blazing lady. He was even more upset when he saw the flash of anger and muttering from the stricken girl. In the dark Phaelan had not figured out who shot the Firebird. It might have been one of Widow Harper's men for all he knew. He did know plenty about bar fights, and the first step to cooling things off was separation of the parties. The spell had already passed him as he tried to side step between whoever she was glaring at. He made a half turn in attempts to see who she was glaring at, but didn't look away from the Firebird for too long because he would need to get close to her in order to address the arrow.

"I will need to get closer to you in order to help you. Is that okay?" His voice was low and firm, and his irritation with the violence was pretty clear. 'Gods, she's bleeding worse than that deer dad and I hunted down years ago' he thought to himself, 'I couldn't eat meat for days after that.'. Clearly this lady was not a deer. She should be shown the dignity of an explanation of what was going on. "We were all asked to come here because these peaches were being eaten. The farmer woman needs to give those to the king" Phaelan allowed his words to soften as he continued his approach again slowly.

The anger lasted only a moment, although the muttering lasted a shade longer than that. When she fell silent, her expression was one of grim satisfaction. The satisfaction faded almost as quickly, as she looked around at her captors. She obviously dismissed Rave, but the others would be more than enough to detain one unarmed woman.

After failing to see what the Firebird was angry about, Phaelan offered to heal her. She studied him a long moment, deciding whether to trust the half-orc, then nodded and moved her injured shoulder a little closer to him, bracing herself for his ministrations. His explanation made sense to her, although it told her what she didn't want to hear. "Magic fruit always seems to belong to kings. Or evil magicians."

She looked up at the trees almost sadly, then looked back at the group. "If you let me go, you can tell your employer her peaches are safe. I never return to a place where I've been seen."

She was a little bit stunned and shocked, partly at herself for speaking up, and partly for the Orc not to try to rip her arm off, or for that matter, as of yet no one had tried to argue against her, she nodded quite abruptly and appeared rather happy with herself, trying not to show her amazement, and pretend that she had expected the rest of the group to comply, she watched and listened to the very soft voice of the Orc, and his very deliberately delicate movements. Until the creature finally seemed to relent, and displayed her shoulder for the Orc to inspect. But she had heard the comment from the creature, and blurted out before thinking about discussing it with the rest of the group
"whatcha mean magic fruit?"
Aneja had eaten one of the things, she hoped this creature was mistaken, she reached up,and grasped a nearby peach, giving it a twist, snapping it off, and peering at it not knowing what she was actually looking for, and staring as though she had never had a glimpse of the fruit before. She went to toss it to the wizard calling out
"well watcha think?"

Alexis Climbed down the tree, but kept to the shadows. She couldn't blame the bird woman for being angry with her, it appeared as if the orc was going to help her, she called out to the Orc from her shadow, "I've a first aid kit if you want it" she heard the Flamebird woman thing say she wouldn't return to the peaches, and wondered if she should believe her.

Phaelan gave another half turn toward Alexis in the darkness so as not to shout "Yes, we are definitely going to need that" back at her (and not in the Firebird's face). He then turned back to face the wounded lady, glancing to meet her eyes with a quiet "I am Phaelan, by the way." to her before he turned his eyes to look at her injured shoulder. "May I touch your shoulder?"

Phaelan's eyebrows were knitted in such a way that it might have looked painful on a smaller brow line. His brain was racing faster than it usually did when he was asked to do math on the fly. How was she not burnt by the fire that had surrounded her? Should he give her back her crimson feather? Was that the right thing to do?... it was pretty. Draza rolled her eyes and sighed heavily. These folks were attempting healing work out of their skill range, at least she was assuming. "Orc. Step aside." She lightly pushed him aside so she could get to the fire bird better. "If not fight and not food, Draza can heal." She wanted a better look at both creature and wound. "Uolthen give me eyes to see."

The Firebird blinked, trying to keep up with everyone's questions. "The fruit here is magic... not very magic. It starts early, grows late, tastes better. It does not matter how magic to me, just that it is magic."

The Firebird watched hungrily as the fruit was picked and tossed to the smaller man in the group, but then her attention was drawn when the bow-woman descended from the tree and offered a first aid kit to the kind green man. She was confused by the actions of this group. Half of them seemed to be competing to heal her, and none of them seemed to want to keep her here. It was enough to make her almost glad that her curse didn't seem to have worked well on them.

The orc's question drew her attention again, and she moved her shoulder closer to him. A moment of concentration caused the flames around that shoulder to dim, not that they would have burned him anyway. "It is good to know your name, Phaelan. I am the Firebird."

Phaelan expertly removed the arrow from the Firebird's shoulder, but the pain was too much for her. She'd fainted by the time Draza stepped forward.

Draza detected no evil from the Firebird. Zebulon may roll AGI to catch the peach, and then attempt to inspect it for magic if he wishes.

Zebulon caught the peach and examined it closely, puzzled. The firebird claimed they were magic, but they had not triggered his detetct magic spell. If she were to be believed, the peaches must be just barely magical, or their magic was more subtle than he could detect. It would certainly explain why these peaches were meant for the king. He wondered if Widow Harper did something to the trees to make them special; he would have to ask her befo he left.

The group was crowding around the firebird now, and it seemed several of the others were tending to her wound already, so he retreated back to his gear and put away his own first aid kit. He carried his lantern back the group to give them all better light, and saw that the firebird had passed out from the arrow being removed. Speaking quietly to the group, he asked, "What should we do with her, once we've tended her wounds? Should we take her word that she will leave the peaches be and let her go, or should we turn her over to Widow Harper and the city's justice?" He felt conflicted on this point; on the one hand, the firebird had admitted her crime and the law should be followed, but on the other hand, it seemed wrong to imprison a rare creature like her.

Draza got down to the fallen firebird's level, taking both her healing kit and her holy symbol out. It would be so much easier to just eat the creature, but she had this thing about eating things she didn't have a hand in killing. Besides it was in her teachings to heal, Uolthen held sway over water and all bodies were guided by water. Thinking that she tilted her head at the creature in front of her, was she fire based? Would her water kill or heal, either way she didn't care about the exact outcome.

The injury looked bad, especially for a creature meant to have wings. Elder Terzek, the ancient priest who had first initiated Draza into the Way had first taught his pupils how to heal wild animals before trusting them with intelligent subjects, so she knew the wings of birds were especially fragile. A healing spell was almost the only way to guarantee the Firebird would be able to fly again.

As for the question of fire and water, memories of Terzek answered that as well. She could practically see him in front of her, stern and sad as he explained why he was healing a member of the enemy feline tribe who had been injured in a raid on Draza's village. "The Seven love all that lives upon Asarth, whether it walks, flies, swims, slithers, or simply grows from the soil. As servants of the gods, our duty is to relieve suffering, regardless of who is in pain. That is why the first spell any priest learns is the spell of healing. Because that spell is meant to be used on any injured creature." His smile was practically toothless with age but still mischievous when he added, "Any injured creature we don't plan on eating, that is."

After she tossed the peach over to the wizard, she stood and watched the non humans, group around the creature, she was glad they were there, as she dred to think how badly she may have done by herself. She made sure all her possessions and her gold was securely in place, then noticed the wizard packing his things, as she already all hers together, she aided in placing his gear away. And followed him over to the injured lady. She had seemingly fainted 'ah great' she thought 'an unresponsive dead weight'. After listening to his suggestions, she glanced over at the guard, but she didn't seem quite opposed to letting her go, or for that matter show interest in the idea of arrest... She tried to rack her brain to a solution, she had always liked solving problems, and that had always helped when trying to figure a way into this building, or through that door, or perhaps find the best way out of a particular courtyard. So her mind raced. She had already said she wouldn't take things from someone who was injured like this, even a magnificent ring as that, Aneja had seen and spoke about jewellery a lot in her 'trade' it was good to know your so called stock items and their worth. The lady did speak of treasure... Perhaps the firebird should stick with them, until she was recovered... For the groups conscience after all... And that way they could be sure she wasn't sneaking off to eat peaches, but then with this 'treasure' the lady could buy peaches? Hmm she'd have to ask the lady more questions. But for the meantime she ask the group.
"Firebird, you guys say, this ear' bird says er name is? Perhaps she should come with us for a bit? Do any of yous knowing anything about firebirds? Or how to bloomin wake her up with your 'erbs or voodoo?" She started to gently tap the firebirds face knowing the lizard lady was attempting to treat her, but with no response got a bit more assertive with her taps. She made an effort to notice anything else of worth on the firebird, well after all she said she did have treasure!
"Well I'm Aneja 'artsmith, are you any good wit wounds like tha'?" She noticed the arrow puncture wound, and seen how very little damage had been done removing the arrow, she made a mental note that if she got shot with someone's arrow to make sure the Orc treated her "good job though Green boy". she had seen worse and people had been fine, but then again seen better and someone die days later with infection! Draza snapped at the rogue's closeness to her patient. "Squishy back off. I maybe get hungry doing this. Arms are good snack." She was getting hungry but this human doesn't look like it washes much, and she still had some dried fish in her pack. Or maybe there was fresh food nearby that she could eat. Ugh, she had to stop thinking about food and concentrate on the task.

This would was still fresh, but puncture wounds are always harder to heal over gashes. But the fresher the easier to heal, older wounds are set in and with some only a few gods could 'fix'. Terzek's words rung in her head and she prayed that Jack wasn't paying attention. She needed Uolthen's works to flow through her. Laying the holy symbol over the wound, Draza began to chant. It was pretty bad so she figured a double prayer couldn't hurt. Water quenches fire, fire scorches earth, wind moves earth, earth absorbs water; but without all there is no life.

Zebulon noticed nothing unusual about the peach at first, until he realized that Aneja had just tossed it to him, and he hadn't caught it with any particular gentleness... yet it was unbruised, and no softer than any ripe peach should be! If that wasn't magic, it was very close to it.

In the shifting shadows cast by the wind in the trees and the moving group members, even the combined light of the half-moon, the lantern, and the Firebird were not enough to allow Aneja a clear enough look at the ring to gain any knowledge about it. She did, however, note the intricate embroidery on the Firebird's gown. The design was unfamiliar, but the bright colors spoke of dyes that might be even more expensive than the golden thread that accompanied them. The Firebird had probably not been lying when she said she had treasure.

Despite her peckishness-- or perhaps because of it-- Draza's prayer for healing was answered clearly. The Firebird's wound closed almost immediately, leaving it looking weeks-old instead of something that had happened only moments ago. The Firebird opened her eyes... and froze when she saw the toothy figure looming over her.

I figure it's been about a minute, Rave can wake up if she wants! Also, everyone should probably get involved in the questions Zebulon and Aneja have been asking! Here they are again, to save you looking through.

Alexis looked from one person to another as they spoke. The lizard brained woman seemed to heal the firebird before they had need for her first aid kit. She spent her time looking from on person to another. They all seemed to be asking the same thing, what where they to do with the firebird. Now that it seemed clear that shooting her was not the answer, she also thought this over, someone.....human female, mentioned something about taking her with them. Another, human male, talked of handing her over to the authorities. Frankly, Alexis couldn't care less what happened to the firebird so long as she stopped eating the peaches. But she spoke up, "If she comes with us, then what? What would we do with her then?"

She cautiously stepped forward towards the group and out of her shadows.

Phaelan, having been moved to the side by Draza, had little to do but look between the Firebird's face and the faces of his companions. He registered with the suggestion of having her walk with them, but he wasn't the best decision maker*. He would love to spend some more time with her, though. That song she sang was hauntingly enchanting. Perhaps she would teach him if they did spend time together? He had a sense that if she did venture off with them, that she would probably try to run off before they made it back to town.

Once Draza had completed her spell and the Firebird opened her eyes Phaelan patted her hand gently and quietly murmured "It's okay, she fixed your arm." Not knowing if the contact would be too much for the strange woman (Phaelan's a pretty big dude kneeling over a lady at night), he moved his hand back to awkwardly cross his arms in front of him and waddled back a bit on his knees.

Rave snorted a bit when she finally snapped out of the snare of the firebird's enchantment. It took a few moments to remember what had just happened earlier that evening... the order from Silkears, the walk... the strange company. Ugh... did she seriously fall asleep under one of the peach trees waiting for that old bat's thief? It was probably some kid, anyways! As the city guard stood up she noted that the others were all still awake and discussing the peaches amongst one another... there were even a few peaches off of the tree -- these helpers could potentially be the thieves themselves! -- that thought made Rave scowl just a tiny bit more.

"I take it you're telling her about this peach thief problem." she gruffed, nodding at the Firebird who Rave considered as just another adventurer out for whatever reward Widow Harper had offered on the Wall. "What all did they say?"

Those clothes the firebird wore were magnificent, she could almost picture them on some mythical tale of a princess, or adorned by a royal during a grand event, as she leaned closer trying to get a better look the lizard lady snapped at her
"Squishy back off. I maybe get hungry doing this. Arms are good snack."
Aneja jumped back, and gave a quick squeak, which she attempted to cut short, by covering her mouth, before quickly darting up straight pretending as nothing had happened
"well bloomin friendly" she muttered under her breath. She along with the others, apart from the guard who seemed rather uninterested in the going ons, all gazed as the lizard lady worked some kind of enchantment to heal the firebird, Aneja was rather amazed as the wound began to close and heal, she had not seen much real magic or spells in her life, well she had seen many street performers, but usually some conman who's friend would pick pocket unsuspecting onlooker

She watched as the Orc patted the firebird and said something comforting to her, before kneeling backwards, Aneja noticed how elegantly and gracefully he managed to use those muscular knees and push his frame backwards, so strange she thought, when she tried to creep, back on her knees like that she was sure she looked like one of those strange black and white flightless birds in the travelling circus.

She spoke to the lizard lady in a tone of admiration "well with magic like that, if you're hungry, when we get back to town I'll be buying you a great big steak...well if it will stop you biting my arm off"

That's when the guard spoke, and almost startled Aneja
"I take it you're telling her about this peach thief problem?" Aneja waited for the guard to finish, Aneja had always been an opportunist in her life and took chances when she could usually without hesitating. She was a little confused about the guards questions. But saw this as an opportunity
"Erm yes... Erm yer we was..erm, but the bird lady shot her thinking she was da thief... I think we scared off the thief though?" Aneja spoke slowly and had a very confused look on her face, one eyebrow raised high, waiting for the guard to interrupt and deny Anejas statement, 'had this guard paid any attention to the last several minutes? She must have some kind of head injury, that was it this guard probably had spent too many days in the training yard and sustained too many blows to the head'

The Firebird worked her shoulder cautiously, and was obviously relieved at the lack of pain. Someone suggested her going with the group, and she eyed the speaker warily, noting it was the person who'd shot her. She still wasn't happy about the injury, but she would give the harpy the benefit of the doubt... this time. After all, many from her homeland believed that the afterlife was a series of grand battles where the injured and dead would awaken in a feast hall, unharmed. When friend and foe had feasted together, they would return to the battlefield and begin again. Perhaps these people had similar beliefs and had simply found a way to bring them to reality in this lifetime.

Thought of feast halls made her painfully aware that she hadn't yet eaten, and she looked longingly at the peach held by the well-dressed man until a touch on her arm drew her attention closer. The handsome green man murmured comforting words and then moved away gracefully, apparently trying not to crowd her. The Firebird smiled at him. "Thank you for removing the arrow..." Her smile moved to the scaled woman. "And thank you for the healing. I am grateful."

Even before the Firebird had spoken, Rave had noticed the bloody arrow on the ground and the blood on the glowing woman's shoulder. She even got a good look at the shiny pink scar of a mostly-healed wound before the Firebird pulled her torn cloak of feathers to cover the area. Even the lizard-woman's prayerful pose spoke clearly of what had just happened.

The rogueish woman's explanation of why it had happened, however, was the worst lie Rave had ever heard. And that was saying a lot coming from a career guard.

A decent INT or WIS check will let Rave figure out what happened, or someone can just plain tell her. Or she can wring it out of Aneja, if she wants. And then everyone gets to decide what they want to do with the Firebird.

Draza was pleased with the way the wound had healed, the bird woman had woken too. Her face was not the friendliest to wake up to, she tried to keep a closed-mouth smile to seem less intimidating to her patient. She took back her holy symbol and sat back allowing the orc to come closer again to reassure the firebird.
The human she had snapped at earlier had congratulated her work. "Not magic. Is work of Uolthen." She knew to give credit where credit was due. Then she remembered her threat ."Many sorries, squishy. Draza will not eat arms of not killed." The other seemed a good enough sort, even trying to explain to the city guard that had followed them.

"I care not what happens to Fire one. I keep eye on her for patient need now." Even though the wounds had healed she wanted to make sure the muscles worked well enough as well. A wound was only healed if everything worked again.
