There are quite a few contests and magazines like that. Hubbard's writers of the future is a super prestigious contest with prize money and publication for scifi/fantasy short stories. You are basically set for life as a writer if you win because editors will seek you out.

I just wrote a bunch of flash fiction for nanowrimo. I can do 500 words or less, but 100? Nah bro. How can you say anything in that space.

Maybe a fairytale though? Since they have pretty condensed plots and themes in the first place. Something more prose poetry style might help.

Yeah i was just thinking of quick ways to make pennies and there's a few mags offering between £25-50 for short pieces but then saw that comp.

I've tried and failed a few times haha. I'm guessing its more of a snippet of a bigger story, or an emotion or a scene. But i don't knowww.

All im thinking is it'll be published in June but voted for over easter, so maybe something spring-related might be a winner?

My only pieces that turn out that short more resemble poetry than prose. It definitely has to just be a snippet of an idea rather than a story. Was there any kind of theme attached to that contest?

I think you should write what will sound best to you rather than trying to appeal to some theme you think might win. Others may be thinking the same thing and you want to stand out.

Yeah i just find it hard to grab an audience is so few words. Usually it takes me 100 to explain an emotion then another to describe the scene. I just did that then condensed it and came up with this...

And there I sat, with a hot chocolate in one hand and a digital camera in the other, wondering where I went wrong. I’d had it all. The husband, the house. Life was great. But I wanted more. I needed more. Nothing prepared me for the day my doctor told me I couldn’t conceive. It spelled the end for our marriage.
All my life I had dreamed of the final piece to our beautiful lives. But there I was, alone again, photographing my final moments. Then out of nowhere he came, and whispered to me, “it’ll be OK, my love”.

Exactly 100 words. But no where near worthy of a prize xDD

yeeeaaah....I think it takes special people to write 100 word pieces. But I mean, pure gold probably doesn't exist in 100 words. That's like those contest pieces that go on the cups at schlotzkys'. One was fabulous and the rest were just...eh. But they were still winners.

Haha yeah. Guess it depends on the judges.

Of all the words in the dictionary, picking 100 that fit together perfectly is haaard!

Anyway i better get off. Got a phone interview in the morning for a job at a new supermarket they're building right around the corner (no travel bonus!)

I feel like I should try to write a 100 word story now just as a challenge. That might be a fun contest to hold here just to see what happens.

nope. xD i hated beefy paragraphs. they were the bane of my existance in school. which is why i stopped doing them. plus the teacher said i was a liar and a cheater and didn't do any of my own work JUST because I was writing a story with a friend and we pass the notebook at the beginning and end of classes we share together.

That happened to me and friends in creative writing because we all rped together and wrote a few stories that involved the same set of characters though only one writer. We would pass non class related stories around and I guess it looked suspicious.

she didn't even ask or confront me. she sent a letter home on the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. when you are just getting rules and crap. i was so ticked off. and i scraped by in the class with a 65 something, took the end of year exam and got college credit and the teacher just looked at me, couldn't find words and walked away.

That's too much. You've got to at least make an effort to give your students a chance. This was a college class?

nope high school class. But it was one of the college credit ones, I scored so high on the test i got credit for TWO college classes.

Didn't know you could get two credits like that. I didn't get any college credits while I was in high school.

I slept most of the evening so now it's bed time and I'm not all that tired.
