It is a heartwarming story... however, I can't seem to find the plot points...
that modern story was just the beginning? right?
If the story focus on healing, the above history of parents and 5-7 years should be like the first quarter of the story?
If so, I think the history may best work in a flashback ways.

I am currently stuck in one of my scene too, not entirely sure how the detail is going to carry out. x.x
But I know the effect/conclusion I want, so maybe I would write the effect first, then go back to write how it happened.

I would suggest you to go to more established writer's forum if you are serious about writing.
When I say serious, it doesn't necessary means professional, I take my writing hobby seriously too. <3

NaNo is a good place to roam. Even though I am not a member, the forum is open to all, I like reading on people's query and sometimes you stumbled upon similar problem and could find the solution there. I especially love that NaNo's forum is very organized.

But, I'm not really all that serious about writing, I never really thought about making these things into story like things
I was just developing backgrounds for some of my characters to kind of explain why they are how they are now and I don't know how else to really do that..

The way I'm feeling at the time has a lot to do with it. But, they are kind of an extention of me.
I don't really think I have motivation for them, they just swim or hop or skitter through my head..

Well, it's hard to say..
I'd like oc art but with Io I don't know some of her markings
And I don't have the money for artwork from others
And I can't make it because I need a new tablet stylus

That is where virtual currency comes in.
Site like these have artist who are willing to produce art for virtual coins.
