It really depends. I mean I would mostly lean towards yes but only if there were some restrictions to the penalty. Like only for certain hance crimes. Meh, yeah it depends.

I reckon the families and friends of those who were effected by these people who did crimes to get the death sentence would feel much better if there was no possibility at all that the criminal could do it again. .__.
(and it costs moneys to keep them in cells! XD;)

I hate the idea of killing anyone. On the other hand, some specifics of a case may require it. And some people definitely need to be killed-- though I tend to think of this on a dictator/war scale. So it's all complicated. Undecided.

Answer: Yes--only for rape and murder, DEPENDING ON THE CIRCUMSTANCES.
Examples:
A. A man killing the mass murderer who also happened to kill his wife should NOT be put to death, while the mass murderer should be.
B. An eighteen year old who had sex with his sixteen year old girlfriend should NOT be put to death (they should be, perhaps, talked to about the wisdom of their actions--but not put through that), while a twenty-two year old who made an unwilling thirteen year old have sex with him should be.
Also, it depends on how solid the proof is. (Wouldn't you hate to put someone to death and find out a year later that they were innocent?)
