Not really. The Christian part... well, I'm not christian, so that makes little sense to celebrate, you know. The Santa Claus part... well, Santa Claus is derived from our Sinterklaas, by Coca Cola in the early 20th century, I believe. The Dutch communities still celebrated it. So that I celebrate at the 5th, not 25th.

It is celebrated on the fifth, but the actual birthday of Saint Nicholas, on which Sinterklaas is based is indeed the sixth of december. don't ask me why a whole country celebrates it on the 5th instead. xD

Hm, when you're a child, you tend to believe in Sinterklaas. He and his helpers (zwarte pieten, which translates to something like 'black petes', with pieten/petes derived from the name Piet, a fairly common male name) deliver presents to little children. During the weeks before sinterklaas, the children set their shoes near a door or window or chimney. Sinterklaas or his helpers are supposed to put some candy or a small present in that shoe.

At the fifth, you get a bigger present or presents. Children believe that Sinterklaas and his helpers sneaked into the house to bring them presents. Sometimes a 'helper Sinterklaas' is hired by parents. The children believe this is because Sinterklaas cannot be everywhere at the same time.

Well, we celebrate it on the sixth.

My mom, younger sister and I are early to rise most days, and since it was Christmas, we got up earlier to open our gifts. It's a tradition. ^^

For us, we normally stay up from Christmas Eve to the actual Christmas Day with my mom's side, and open gifts there. XP And then we spend Christmas lunch with my dad's side of the family. :3 Hence my lack of sleep. xDD;; <3<3
