I couldn't really decide, so I went Poli sci with a business admin minor, and am getting my paralegal certificate/degree in 2 more semesters. :D

I figured I'd try that first before deciding whether or not to go to law school.

And I still plan to work in linguistics and writing somehow too. >_>;;

I'm starting to think I'm turning into an overachiever. :gonk:

I'm debating whether or not to go into law. In England, you can do a one or two year 'law conversion' course, requiring a Bachelor's degree of any type.
Then you need a year's training in a solicitor's office (if that's what you wanna do).

I guess that way I could study English, which I love, and then train in something obviously practical.
It's still up in the air though. Very much so.

Heh, that sounds familiar, almost.

Here in the states, they usually want you to major in english, history, or political science, and only very occasionally philosophy.

Then it's off for 2-4 years of law school. Some schools have very strict rules, and won't allow students to be employed during their first year.

You can also do a Law BA straight out of high school, and all BAs in England take 3 years. Plus a year's training... you could be qualified age 22. xD

I reckon being an English/History/Politics degree probably helps you get onto the conversion course.

Wow. Somehow I think that y'all are getting the better end of that deal. :/
I wish ours worked that way. Instead, you have to hope and pray you can get into an internship to get work experience. If you can't....good luck getting a job in the field you want to be in.

Oh the internship/training is necessary here, and not guaranteed.
My mum graduated with lots of lawyers though (back in the '30s, LOL) so I might have a leg up finding a place.

I've thought about being a lawyer, but I think if I was I'd be an environmental or children's one.

What I really want to do is journalism. My older sister is currently playing that field, and she's doing well so far!

I'm not great at science. Pretty bad at maths.
But I hated music most in school.

Hey guys! Glad to see that this thread is doing pretty well. :3

Oh boy, college talk? I'm starting uni in the fall going into international studies with a focus on Russia. But my focus will probably change. My whole major might change. I don't know what I'll do with it, I just want to travel and see the world!
Ideally, I'd love to have a career as a novelist, but my dad probably wouldn't pay for my tuition if I said I was going to major English or creative writing with the intent to become a writer. And a starving artist would probably have a hard time paying off her loans. Plus, I probably wouldn't have the money to travel if I did that. :/
So with international studies, I get to learn about stuff I like and see the world! It's not my first choice, but at least it's a close second.

I love music! I've been in chorus ever year that I can. I can't play an instrument, but I have a great range!

I was a history major in college myself. I don't have a job in my field, though.

I think if you know the career you're after, a related degree is good - but really you want to spend 4 years studying something that interests you.

Ugh I feel like I'm coming down with something.

Iltu, minor in english then!

Eh, I want to go into either estate law or possibly contract law. I prefer to stay far away from moral issues and family law. Both get pretty messy...

Pearl- It does look like it's gonna involve some super interesting classes!
Aw, what do you think you're coming down with?

Skrae- I'm trying to decide between minoring in English, creative writing, linguistics, or a second language (probably Russian or Spanish), but I am heavily leaning towards creative writing.

Angel- A history major would be so interesting! Did you have a focus on a certain type of history?

You could become an interpreter. It pays well and it's interesting.

@ Skrae - I bet you're right there.

@ Fairy - thanks, but I already took some hot blackcurrant thing. Nip it in the bud! I'll probably go to bed soon.

@ Iltu - a common cold? I hope it's brief. >.>

Fairy- I have thought about that, but I want to see what other jobs I could get as well. I'd love to work for some sort of world-wide aid organization! I don't know if I'd be an interpreter or what for them, but it'd be great if I could do some good.

Pearl- Feel better quick!
