Alright alright. I'm going to post a story I started because of a series of really strange dreams I have had lately. It takes me a while to type out each bit, but I'll just post it plainly as it comes. I'll try to just update this post over and over unless it just gets too long (in which case, I'll be reserving the first four posts if that's alright). BECAUSE! I would really like feedback. I'm not really good with a lot of criticism, so if you don't have any information on how I can improve or what I should probably change, then I would appreciate it if you'd just pass over this... Well... Here goes nothing!

*~*~** UPDATE **~*~*

What I will do from here on out is link to posts containing sequential parts of the story, that way I don't have to worry about having enough reserved space and anyone can comment whenever. :) Sound like a plan?

Isaiah peered across the hall at the closed door before him. He had just encountered his new neighbor, she who would be dwelling beyond that very door. Something nagged at the back of his mind, giving him the constant feeling that she was familiar. What did she say her name was? He thought to himself as he finally closed his own door. As perturbed as he had already been by her sudden relocation to his building, he was all the more so bothered by the fact that he felt completely accustomed to her presence right from the start, as if she had been an important part of his life for a long time. Even her introduction seemed unusual, as he thought about it. Isaiah snagged an apple from the nearly depleted fruit bowl on his counter and pondered more deeply the feelings with which he had been beset.

She had definitely recognized him. That was apparent in her reaction to him being her neighbor. How could it have been possible? She was transferred from the Artisan's Ward, as he recalled. Isaiah munched and sat down to catch up on colony news. The screen came on and his gaze seemed to be on that of the happenings there, but his mind was still on this girl. She can't be much younger than me, if she is younger at all. He thought. I've been on the military path since I was around eight, so there couldn't be any connection there if she was really living in the Artisan's Ward this whole time. Isaiah took another bite of his apple while his mind wandered. He bit into a seed and nearly spat it into the floor since his mind was so busy. She said she had just seen me around, but the way she said it sounded doubtful. And she certainly knew my name. Isaiah was nearly convinced that he knew her from somewhere before and that he knew her well.

Considering all that was weighing on his mind, it hadn't occurred to him how strange it was for someone from the Artisan's Ward to transfer to the Military Barracks. Obviously, they were just terms used to designate the living spaces for groups of individuals who were dedicating their lives to similar pursuits, purposes or professions. The Artisan's Ward was generally occupied by some of the the most gentle and peaceful of people one could meet. It took quite some time for Isaiah to even consider the thought. He had never worked up an excuse to speak with the girl again, though.

Isaiah himself was a 25-year-old soldier, in training at least. He had never seen a real battle, thank goodness. His Colony, 0XP88, also known as Arion, was the last one to exist in the Poseidon Expanse, the unique area between the Danitia Solar System and its surrounding interstellar space. Arion Colony was so closely encompassed by the Demeter Nebula that it was easily camouflaged from enemies, making it the safest known colony since the Planetary Protection Initiative. Isiaiah had spent his whole life on the colony and knew nothing else. No one from Arion new of anything else. One colony's communicative connection was entirely dependent on the surrounding colonies, all of which had suddenly 'gone dark' one after another. At best, that meant there was some sort of unknown interference coming from the Demeter Nebula, but no ships had come or gone, even considering as rare as they had been before, in decades.

As peaceful and safe as Arion had come to feel, soldiers were necessary for its residents to feel secure. Basically, the known galaxy was jounced by the newfangled threat of the Grivios, some sort of super-being that had destroyed one planet already. One species of alien discovered a way to protect the planets with their technology. They had developed a shield of sorts that could encompass an entire planet. The downside was that while the planet seemed to remain alive, it was in a sleep-like state, meaning that any resources the planet provided could no longer be replenished until the planet was 'awoken'. Thus began the PPI, or the Planetary Protection Initiative. Each species abandoned their own planets so that they could be protected and they ventured into space building colony after colony along the way. Given that brief history of the human race's exodus from the long estranged planet Earth and the more immediate disconnection from Arion's sister colonies in the Poseidon Expanse, soldiers were kept trained and at the ready.

Although the necessity of military protection was of the utmost importance, it could not be ignored that Arion had never once seen a battle. Thus, leaves of absence were often provided for soldiers who maintained good standings during training sessions and tests. Isaiah was currently on a special kind of leave, one required for every person living on Arion. It was known as the Battle Simulation Leave. Quarterly, each person would be tested in a deep cognitive battle simulation. This was an amazing technology developed by many different alien races all throughout the galaxy. The facility that accommodated these simulations was massive, easily the largest structure in the colony. It was exactly at the center of everything, and it was the center of everything. Every person's life was centered around when their next simulation was scheduled. However, very few lives were actually changed by the results of any given simulation. It was said that each one would prepare the colonists for an attack of any kind, but rarely did anyone ever remember a single thing that happened during them. It seemed only the technicians behind the simulations truly knew exactly for what the Battle Simulation system was.

Isaiah had already completed his simulation for the quarter, but the leave he was granted provided a week before and after for preparation and recovery. It was quite common for one to feel fatigued and to experience disorientation or mental haze. Perhaps that's what's getting to me? Isaiah questioned himself. He tousled his own dirty-blond hair before examining himself in the mirror, wondering if he looked tired. He spent a few moments there studying his reflection without a single inclination to step away. That was until his stomach growled and he was forced to acknowledge his hunger. It has been a while since I snacked on that apple. He still had six more days of leave before he returned to his normal schedule, and he had been thrown off since the beginning of it. Eating was not something he went out of his way to do when it was outside of his normal schedule. His body had to remind him that he needed sustenance for nearly every meal.

SPOILERX

Feeling like he had a legitimate reason to leave, he quietly stepped out his front door. Upon exiting, he swiped his right thumb across the pad on the other side of his door, effectively locking it. Of course, he thought, she's out here too. His new neighbor was pushing a large trunk through her door and she smiled widely at him when she saw him coming out.

"Isaiah!" she said, gleefully. "Good timing! Are you in any sort of hurry?" She asked.

"Oh, no. I'm on BSL and I was just going to grab a bite to eat," he replied. "Did you need some help, uh...?" He trailed off signifying that he couldn't remember her name. She looked a bit disappointed, but even more than that her eyes suddenly seemed sad.

"Oh, my name is Lumina," she plastered on a smile, "but sometimes I'm called Lu or Mina, whatever works for you is fine with me!" Isaiah felt a little distanced as she spoke. It somehow felt like he had hurt her feelings and that was the last thing in the world he wanted to do. It felt like she was the last person in the galaxy that he would ever want to hurt. What is this connection?

"Lumina," Isaiah repeated. "Let me help you with that." He then picked up the trunk with ease.

"Thank you, Isaiah," she sounded a bit more formal, meaning less familiar with him, than before.

"Not a problem!" He obliged as she opened her door for him. She led him in. "Where would you like this?"

"If you could, please bring it to my room. It's back this way." Lumina led him once again. Once inside, Isaiah had another incredible sense of familiarity. As he was looking around, he had clutched tightly onto the trunk and his brow furrowed. "Isaiah?" Lumina interrupted his thoughts with her concern.

"I'm sorry," he placed the trunk onto the floor, but stood there awkwardly for another moment. Lumina wasn't sure what to say or if she should ask whether he was feeling alright, but Isaiah was searching around for the courage and the right words to say what was on his mind. "This must sound insane," he started, "but..." it took a while for him to gather his words. "Have we met somewhere before?" He finally blurted.

"Yes." Lumina answered almost too quickly, as if she had been waiting for him to ask that question her entire life. Her eyes were searching his, seemingly for answers about something. Isaiah scratched his head vigorously.

"Oh, um," he was clearly in distress, "I'm sorry. I don't remember." He said.

"I know," she smiled weakly. Then there was a long silence before Isaiah realized he should probably leave. "You must be starving!" Lumina laughed. "Thank you so much for your help. Now go on and get yourself something to eat!" She bade him farewell.

Isaiah thought deeply about where he could have met Lumina before and why she would know that he didn't remember her. Something was strange, for sure. He felt a deep connection to her that had never felt with anyone else ever before. It was driving him nuts. He had eaten and sat there at the corner cafe for nearly an hour before he decided to get a move on.

He stood up and winded up face to face with one of his training mates, Olivia Molder. She didn't seem surprised at all. "I was just on my way over to see you!" She said.

Olivia was like many of his fellow soldiers. She was tough and somewhat brazen. She was lean, toned and was the type to make sure everyone knew she was strong for her size. She was only perhaps 160 centimeters in height, Isaiah estimated, but she definitely made up for that with her presence and personality. Olivia was pretty audacious, as well, and her recklessness and lack of tact garnered her quite the reputation. Still, she was one of Isaiah's valued friends and he wouldn't change a thing about her.

"You look like something's bothering you," Olivia said, "so I was gonna join you to see if you wanted to chat."

"Yeah, my chatting while you scarf down that meal seems appealing," Isaiah teased her about the size of her portion. Olivia promptly punched him in the arm while he laughed. "Well, I guess I could spare a few more minutes," he shrugged and Olivia looked pleased with herself.

"So what's up?" She asked after they settled and just before stuffing her first bite of sandwich into her mouth.

"I don't know," he trailed off, unsure of how to explain the situation.

"What, you don't think the Battle Sim went well?"She began to infer.

"It's not that, I don't think," Isaiah scratched his head. He really didn't know where to begin. "Well, I guess first of all, I should say there's... Um, well, I have a new neighbor." Isaiah smiled. Olivia stopped eating for a moment and stared at him, scrutinizing.

"Does this have anything to do with your problem, or are you changing the subject?" She interrogated, her eyes intense.

"Liv, it's got everything to do with the problem!" Isaiah sought to resolve any confusion. "You see... I feel like I've met my new neighbor before, somewhere, and it's driving me mad."

"Oh now," Olivia laughed heartily. "And you are really letting it get to you, huh? Did you ask them if you had maybe actually met somewhere before?"

"Yeah," Isaiah leaned back and stared up into the simulated sky, but he was already lost in his own thoughts and didn't continue speaking. After a moment of devouring the remnants of her first sandwich, Olivia broke the silence.

"And?" She drew out the word. He didn't react at first and she smacked his arm. "Hey, I don't got all day, now! So tell me, what'd they say?"

"That we had met before," Isaiah wasn't pleased about his thoughts being disturbed, but it felt nice to talk about it somehow.

"Well, there you go! Problem solved!" Olivia started eating on another sandwich.

"Well, no," Isaiah was frustrated, "not really, because I don't remember!"

"Maybe your new neighbor is just messing with you for laughs!" Olivia chuckled. "I would do it, man. You're such an easy target."

"Of course you would. But I seriously doubt that's the case." Isaiah sighed.

"You coming back to work soon?" Olivia questioned after another lengthy silence.

"I have a few more days of leave, but yeah."

"Good! We need to get back to our normal work out routine. Garret and Jules are getting lazy without you around," She complained.

"You're probably just pushing them way too hard, Liv," Isaiah scolded her.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever," she scoffed. Isaiah then stood from his seat and looked off into the sky again.

"I better get going, Liv," he said. Olivia had already stuffed more food in her mouth and just waved him off. Isaiah shook his head at her and smiled before waving goodbye.

He slowly walked home. Get back into our normal routine, huh? He thought it sounded like a great idea. That might just be what I need to get me back to sorts.

Isaiah spent the next few days focusing on returning to his work-out routine from home. Keeping his mind focused on his own specific goals kept him from wondering too much about everything else, especially about Lumina. It also kept him pretty much cooped up in his apartment quarters so that he would see much less often. He read up on things he missed from training and how his friends had been doing. All the while, keeping himself as busy as possible until it was time for him to return to work and training.

The morning of his return, Isaiah arose early and was sure to eat well. He dressed up in his uniform, just a training garment really that made it easy for superiors and everyone else to identify his rank and class, and was ready to start the day. Everything will soon be right. He smiled as he reassured himself. When he left out the front door, as surely should have been expected, Lumina was leaving out her front door as well. It took a lot for Isaiah not to let out the most grievous sigh that he felt he needed to express, but Lumina just smiled gently.

"Are you headed out?" She asked, which was clearly already evident.

"Of course, and you are as well, I presume," Isaiah locked his door as she nodded.

"Do you think you could lead me to the main office? I have an appointment to meet with Captain Bauer and General Shamon this morning..." She was really uncertain, Isaiah could tell that much.

"Ah, yeah. Captain Bauer is in charge of all transfers and General Shamon is a good man. No need to feel anxious. I'll be glad to escort you there." He stuffed his hands in his pockets, something he usually only did when he was feeling a little anxious himself. Lumina smiled genuinely at him.

"Thanks so much!" She said, and they began their walk to the training base. Upon arrival, Isaiah pointed out the front office and bid farewell before heading to his own station where he met his training group.

"Good to see you man!" Garret greeted him with a heavy pat on the shoulder. "How ya feelin'?"

"I'm pretty good," Isaiah laughed.

"Yeah, Livi's been telling us sob stories," Julian laughed.

"Oh lord, what has she been saying?" He rolled his eyes.

Oh, by the way, darlings, you are welcome to comment anything at all after this! :) I've decided I'll set up the tread a little differently in just a little while (probably in the next couple of days)
