Linnea: I've seen this riddle before but the beginning had more added to it that made the crazy answer to it possible (but honestly totally impossible and senseless) but the way this one is worded could have 2 answers. Did you alter it intentionally to have a more simple answer? I could PM you about it. I know the weird intricate answer, but I don't like it. Lol

and this might be the only riddle i have known since i was a child so i wrote it how it was told to me. i am definitely looking for the simpler answer, as i don't know the version with all the other intricacies that you mentioned are in another version of it. i hope that helps
